The Italian Way in Hastings

Well where do I start.Everything apart from service was very disappointing.The food was tasteless. Literally no flavours whatsoever…I have never had such a bland food…This has to be addressed….Service was very good and welcoming but food spoiled entire experience ….That’s a huge shame….Please - owners - speak with your chefs….

We used to visit The Italian Way regularly - but this time things had changed. The menu is less interesting and the food was very poor - tough pasta and rubbery cheese - everything was tasteless - no flavour - herbs or garlic.... Maybe the chef has changed but we were really disappointed with the food!

Really pleased with the service and food! As always! Best reasonably priced Italian restaurant in Hastings. The restaurant is well decorated and clean as well. Myself and my family love it!

Quite possibly one of the worst experience of food we have ever had. Ordered lasagna and my wife some chickens dish (not sure what is was suppose to be) off the Xmas menu. I can only describe the lasagne as a bad ready meal. Was mushy, had little or no meat inside, but for some strange reason had loads of ham in! Was also not very warm in the middle so obviously found it’s way out of the microwave. It also has this strange tomato sauce swimming on the plate.My wife had two bits of tough grilled chicken, bizarrely swimming in the same tomato sauce and with that same ham on top. When the waitress asked about the food we told her. She explained that before they was cooking the lasagne in the ceramic dishes, now they stopped as they was too hot and the kitchen was now cooking lasagne differently and it’s not working! How do cooks not know how to cook lasagne??? Bizarre again we got a 10% discount. £3! After admitting they can’t cook lasagne. It’s was all very strange, the sauce and the strange ham that both appeared in our meals. Wierd experience

After a windy day of exploring Hastings we wanted somewhere to enjoy a nice hot meal and we were so pleased when we found The Italian Way. The staff were so friendly and efficient at serving, and the food was absolutely fantastic. They were good at ensuring they got everyone’s details when entering and felt the restaurant had been spaced really well for social distancing. We would definitely recommend.

I popped in about a month ago for early supper and was pleased to find this restaurant open given the current covid situation. Situated on a corner facing the sea front with its all glass exterior. Covid precautions were followed by the friendly serving staff. My starter of minestrone soup , tasty as it was, didn’t appear to be home made; all pieces of veg exactly the same size! Likewise my side salad which arrived with my main course of a pizza, seemed to have just come out of a bag. I was not offered any type of dressing so used a couple of sachets from the holder on the table. No problems with my pizza which was crispy and delicious. So all in all I enjoyed my meal and would be improved with a bit more effort.

Food was excellent, please invest in a face shield if your not going to wear a mask correctly, one server had her nose exposed, I know they are uncomfortable so get some face shields. Apart from that niggle, it was clean, the staff took care and the food was excellent!

The starter was the only decent we ate. Lasagne had hardly any beef in it and was like eating soggy cardboard in tomato watery sauce. Over cook Calamari was like chewing rubber. Never again..worst Italian in the town

This was the 2nd time we visited ( 1st a while ago) The restaurant didn't disappoint,great friendly service ,good social distancing measures in place and the food was fantastic, really tasty and great value for money even before the Eat Out to Help out discount. Highly recommended by us

They did not applying the Eat Out to Help Out discount correctly for us. Our meals (including drinks - no alcohol) were all well under £20 including drinks yet the discount was considerably less than half the bill. I couldn’t be bothered quibbling over it but it has put me off returning. The first bill we received didn’t have the discount at all so we had to ask.Service from staff was slow (hard to get their attention) though food arrived quickly after ordering. Food quality was reasonable.This place does big group events upstairs. On the ground floor there’s a view of the roundabout and the room is fairly loud - this is a place to visit whilst shopping - get fed then leave - not a romantic or relaxing place.

it was a very hot day but the staff where attentive and the food was excellent. They were very organised for COVID.

Friendly staff, very good food, seems to be busy and with people waiting in a queue it says how popular it is! Only thing is no one answered the phone to book so we just turned up and was seated quickly.

Staff were polite but slow, pizza was crispy on the edge and soggy in the middle side salad came undressed and the calamari was salty, so overall not sure how the reviews are all so good maybe we where just unlucky ☹️

We had pizza and pasta ina red sauce the food looked good it was very tasty and the prices are great. You also don't have to wait long to get your food. The restaurant is right next to the beach there is a lovely view also close to a car park and some shops would recommend for sure!!

Yesterday, an old schoolfriend came to visit me. We went for a lovely walk along the seafront as I was nervous about going into a café as I've been having chemo. But after a while we got cold on the seafront. I remembered that the Italian Way is warm and very clean, so we went there. The staff were absolutely lovely, and they didn't mind that we only wanted hot drinks. While my friend and I were getting lovely and warm and catching up on each other's news, I noticed how unobtrusively and quietly the staff thoroughly cleaned each table and the place settings after customers left. They are as keen on hygiene as the wonderful staff in the chemo unit at the hospital. And the loos are super clean too. I remembered previous visits to the Italian Way, before my diagnosis. The food was always really delicious. My favourite was always the soup and garlic bread before the meal, but the main courses were great too.Now that I've had the courage to go into a café again, I'm planning to go to the Italian Way for a lovely meal soon.

Our daughter and son in law wanted to have an anniversary lunch in hastings as we were local. They booked a table for 6 and we arrived at 4 on the dot. We were met by a wonderful smiling waitress who showed us to our table and made us feel very at home. They took our orders and we sat with our drinks. When our orders arrived the portions were fantastic. My grandson 6 tried his hand at Italian they replied in Italian and made such a fuss of him. We have travelled over italy and this is the welcome you would receive in any italian restaurant. I would reccomend that you book your table and loosen ou waistband as you may put a few inches on. After reading so many good reviews, we went for our anniversary dinner and we were so disappointed! The pizza was awful, no flavour except tomato sauce, the sea food was chewy and bland. The service was appalling, it was quiet and the staff just stood around. Never asked about our meal or if we wanted another drink! We had to summon one over and when they finally brought our drinks to wash down the tasteless pizza, they brought my wife the wrong drink which was a simple vodka and soda water but yes, they got it wrong! Overall a terrible experience and we will avoid going back and dissuade others from going too!

We held my husband's 50th birthday here tonight. They fed 46 of us. Yes, we had pre ordered but they did themselves proud. The food was amazing. Good portions, piping hot and the staff were friendly and helpful.Thank you so much for such an amazing night. Highly recommend.

Nice little Italian restaurant with an excellent choice on the menu. I took my 20yo son and we both had the garlic bread from the menu for starter and carbonara for main. Both courses were really lovely and the service was excellent. Very reasonable price too. Highly recommended.

We went to Italian way tonight as a group of 4 adults and 4 children. The food was lovely and the evening was made even better by the exceptional service from our lovely waiter Christian (Lillo). Thank you for making us all feel so welcome and making our visit to Italian way very enjoyable.

We are visiting for the weekend and of the local restaurants this one seemed the best. Its a small size but feels very cozy with nice decor, huge windows and some friendly staff. There was lots of great vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options which is always great to find. I had the seafood risotto which was really tasty and felt like the fish was sourced locally and recently. Would definitely recommend and will be sure to visit again if we come back.

It is not somewhere for a more formal celebration or romantic meal.- The food is excellent- Good pricing- Decent menu choice- Service is good- Decor is rather old-fashioned- Popular with families seeking an informal night out.

We drove down from Nottingham to spend New Year’s Eve with my husband, who works in Hastings, and we found just what we were looking for to wave 2019 goodbye: actual Italian food, delicious, well cooked, with best ingredients. To add up, a pleasantly calm-feel-at-home atmosphere and perfectly measured service.What else to expect? Well, besides all that: prompt and accurate email responses..., definitely recommend this restaurant!

Came here for my birthday the food was good, but they only have semi skimmed milk/ theres no gluten free bread, there is no alternative for dietary requirements and you get charged extra for gluten free options. When there are so many food intolerances these days we felt they needed to take this into consideration as many other places do.

Excellent food and value for money. The service was excellent and it was nice to have traditional fresh italian food.

The worst weather in ages meant we didn't want to walk any further so took refuge for dinner here. Large canteen style which reminded me of some Italian restaurants in Italy. There were not many people in so we were served quickly. It's not fine dining but tasty with good service. 2 starters 2 mains 1 dessert, a liqueur coffee, 1 wine & 1 beer £65 -

Walked / driven past this place countless times and never thought to go in due to the awful signage and bad lighting. (Yes, I was judging a book by its cover). However I went along for a large family/friends meal Saturday night as had been organised.

Popped in here on a day trip to Hastings and really glad we did.

We first went here 2 years ago and were not disappointed and once again they have come up trumps. The food is superb and the staff are very friendly, a compliment to the manager. The only disappointment is that we come from Southampton and there is not an Italian Way there, they would make a bomb. The price of the meals are also very good value.

Walking around Hastings there seemed to be a distinct lack of places to eat.

Good service and food. We had a table booked for 6 and phoned up to see if we could move it to 6:30 on a Friday night. The staff were very good and allowed us to amend our booking. Good price, polite and prompt staff made us feel welcome without being over attentive. We had an excellent time.

Have been here twice great food great service. Very clean staff always busy and very helpful. Spaghetti Bolognese one of the best I've ever had. Hubby had veggie burger enjoyed it lot's. We'll be back 😍😍

Visited with friends saturday late at night. Food was good and tasty. and the staff the nicest, they didnt rush us even tho restaurant was closed earlier on and we overstayed quite a lot.

After a hiccup about our table booking and expressing our dissatisfaction to the manager, he absolutely turned our experience in this restaurant to a positive one! Really went out of his way to make sure we had a good time! Plus you can't fault the food in thus restaurant! My daughter even personally told the chef this!! Thank you Italian way!!!! what can i say what a load of rubbish i had a mushroom and tomato starter .well it was a few small mushrooms in a source out of a tin of tomatoes with cheese on tasteless and well pretty disgusting .Then we get to the main i had a vegetarian pizza it was dripping in grease and not much veg on it just cheese and oil was so gross and sloppy i could not eat it my wife was no better added to that the service charge it was a massive wast of money . I went out hungry and come home hungry but £50 lighter i should have refused to pay but as it was a birthday party i did not want to spoil it for the others . I will not be going back there any time soon .

Popped in here without a booking we were seated quite quickly. We had been to Rome earlier in the year and ordered exactly the same dishes we had one evening in Rome and I can honestly say that with the exception of the dessert tiramisu everything else was as good as we had had in Italy. But the tiramisu was a real let down a present enough desert but tiramisu it was not. But I would certainly eat here again.

Went with my family and it was amazing. My Mum is normally so picky but she actually loved it there. The starters were huge and I would definitely recommend getting the nibbles than the starters if you have a small stomach. The prices were descent considering the plates were piled high and presented wonderfully.

This restaurant was recommended by a family-friend who recently visited Italy. I would say the recommendation turned out great! We tried few different items. All of them were delicious. The freshness of food, staff support in choosing food and their services made us feel like we were having the best food in the town. We are hoping to come back again.

This restaurant is in a prime location in the town centre next to the beach in Hastings. It is very often busy and has a large cheap/reasonably priced menu. So when my daughters friend chose it to celebrate her 18th birthday it was no surprise.

Went to this restaurant during a visit to Hastings Food was great, rapid service, and we could see the sea from where we were sitting.

I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough, it's a family favourite! The menu is very diverse and has things for picky eater which is so helpful. The prices are very good for the quality and size of the food too. We eat in here quite often so we tend to see every member of staff at some point and they're all absolutely lovely. You feel very welcomed as soon as you walk through the door and the service is quick even when very busy. The seaside view is just a bonus! would definitely recommend

A lovely independent Italian with a nice atmosphere and sea views. The staff were friendly without being overly familiar and service was quick. The food is good value considering the portion sizes. My only grumble is they charge the same per volume for alcoholic and non-alcoholic lager. £3.50 for a 330ml Becks Blue (that costs me 50p in a supermarket so goodness knows what they pay wholesale) is a massive mark-up. Other than that a very good first time experience and we’ll definitely be back.

Although it looks a bit unappealing from the outside, we really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Our 4.5 year old was absolutely raving about her pasta (!) and the staff were kind and considerate of our 2-month old. A really successful alternative to fish and chips!

My wife and I visit Italian Way most weeks, and always have wonderful food. My personal favourite is Spaghetti Alo Scoglio, spaghetti with seafood, but we also enjoy many other items on their menu. This includes chicken, fish, pizzas etc. All are equally enjoyable. The staff are wonderful as well!

We dont live locally but visit Hastings three or four times a year and will always go to the Italian Way for lunch. Why? Very simply because it is a traditional family run restaurant providing great quality sensibly priced meals. I visited with my partner and daughter and we had pasta carbonara .... excellent, pasta vongole...my partner's favourite, and I had spaghetti with meatballs. The meatballs were minced beef and pork and were superb. With wine and two soft drinks plus calamari and garlic bread to start and affogato as my.dessert. the bill was around £65. Good service and very busy too. Much recommended

Fantastic family meal! We were first in but it got busy quickly our waiter was very polite and provided great service. our meals were excellent all plates cleared! dessert was an unexpected treat, i had the honeycomb cheesecake which i could happy eat more of!

We popped in for Saturday lunch without booking and we greeted and seated warmly even though they were nearly full. Excellent gluten-free pasta dish with chicken, mozzarella, cream and tomato sauce. Reasonably priced - really enjoyed it

Needed a place quickly for something to eat late at night considering me and the misses overslept.

Came here on a whim while in Hastings on business. After wandering the seafront in the early evening wondering what to do I came across this place. What a great find! Bruschetta starter was lovely and steak main cooked great, well done as requested but still tender. Lovely accompanying peppercorn sauce and great presentation. Chips cooked to perfection. All delicious! Would highly recommend.

My wife's birthday treat with the family, the food was very good quickly served and presented well, The restaurant was very busy which is always good sign. Five of us went at short notice but they were able to fit us in, The food was enjoyed by all not nouvelle cuisine but very tasty never the less. I personally had pizza which was very good. My wife has seafood pasta which was also very nice. The price was reasonable for any family.

We expected the service to be slow and we were prepared as its one of the busiest days for the culinary calendar.

A party of seven of us had dinner last night. We waited such a long time for our food to arrive and when it did my chicken was so over cooked I left half of it. The restaurant looks like a cafe, actually I have been in nicer cafes and had nicer food. It's a throw back to 1970s and very old fashioned it needs painting and decorating badley. I would have walked out but it was a friends birthday.

Had a meal here in the summer last year, must say that the lasagne was the best one l have ever had, piping hot and delicious, highly recommend the restaurant

First time to hasting today had walk along the beach and found this restaurant Italian way didn’t expect much judging by a few run down looking and closed shops ... well the staff where really nice friendly and had time to chat the food was beautiful the sea view up stair was as good as any I’ve ever had the pleasure to eaten at

I must admit the food down in Hastings has been lovely. Pasta pizza bruschetta was all superb. Would recommend a visit.

We’re visitors to the area, and the four us came in here yesterday afternoon in the freezing weather seeking food, it was great quality, however the service was a bit slow, no worries though, we all really enjoyed what we had, Hastings is lucky to have this lovely restaurant, which overlooks the sea.

Service was good, gluten free pizza really nice, good burgers and chicken asparagus but don't order the meatballs think they forgot to put the meat in! Otherwise good with fair prices.

My wife and I decided at the last minute to go out for a meal for New Year's Eve. Late in the afternoon I telephoned and booked a table for two without any issues. We arrived on time to a fairly empty restaurant and were greeted and shown to a table upstairs overlooking the beach and given menus. A drinks order was taken and our drinks arrived almost immediately, when our food order was taken. I ordered Minestrone soup to start and Susan ordered a salmon and prawn cocktail. Both came swiftly and both were absolutely delicious. For main course, I ordered Spaghetti Amatriciana, which I had never had before, and Susan ordered Spigola Mediterranean, a dish containing her favourite fish, sea bass, along with a side order of roasted seasonal vegetables. Again both came in a short time after we had finished starters and both were of top quality and delicious. We didn't have room for dessert!

Been to this Italian many times over many years and it is as good as ever. We don’t go there all dressed up for fine dining, just go for good Italian food and good service. We weren’t disappointed with our latest visit. A warm welcome, hot tasty minestrone soup and a large seafood pizza to share. As usual we will be back.

Heerlijk gegeten bij deze Italiaan. Het ziet er uit als een american diner maar het eten is erg lekker. De pizza's zijn goed met verse ingrediënten en dat proef je. Ook de pasta was zeer smakelijk. De bediening is keurig en vlot en vriendelijk.

From the outside it looked like a cafe rather than a restaurant so we decided to pop inside for lunch. The staff were friendly and took our order quickly. The food came pretty sharpish, big portions and looked amazing. However, my spaghetti carbonara had fatty lumps of bacon chopped up so I had to pick the fat out and was left eating spaghetti in a white sauce for £8.50. My partner ordered pasta al forno, the sauce had no taste to it at all, very bland. He left most of it (basically ate coz he was hungry) so again at the price of £9.95 it was an expensive lunch. The kitchen is open plan which caused a mist over the tables and condensation on the windows so you couldn't see the sea views. They took the plates, but never asked why my partner hadn't eaten his or comment on all the fat left on mine? They then took ages to bring the bill. By the time we left our clothes smelled of cooking due to the lack of ventalation. Im not sure if this was a one off but we certainly didnt enjoy our food. Shame because they could make this place a little gem.

Dropped in for dinner on Tuesday night it was quiet but staff were still happy and friendly. Lovely wine then amazing calzone a seafood risotto and a veggie pizza followed by chocolate cake and a cheesecake for just over fifty pounds . Thank you and we will be back

I had the Carbonara, my partner ordered the steak. The food arrived quite quickly and the waitress was attentive. The Carbonara was extremely nice with a rich sauce and a generous portion size. The medium steak was cooked exactly as ordered and also a good size. The deserts - well presented and lovely tasting BUT the portion sizes were miniscule. Think clock face, about 2.5 minutes of angle: I would estimate they managed to cut 24 portions from one round cheesecake! So, in summary, excellent service, excellent food, good value dinners. Nice puddings; but extremely poor value. Would happily visit again, but won't be getting a dessert.

A group of 4 of us found this Italian restaurant on a Monday afternoon when we were looking for a late lunch. We were very impressed with the option of gluten free pizza and pasta (plus other gluten free options). The food was good for all of us. I would especially recommend the seafood risotto, which was delicious. Also, the prices were reasonable as well,

Nettes Restaurant, wirklich gute Pizza und tolle Nudeln. Service nett und bemüht. Wäre der Laden etwas kleiner, wäre es bestimmt noch gemütlicher. Aber trotzdem ein guter Ort für italienisches Essen!

What a great night upstairs, best views ever of the parade and the fireworks. We had a choice of main course and a set menu for the starter and pudding. A lot of thought must have gone into these as there were four small portions of varying things to cover all tastes. All courses came promptly, hot and delicious. Ten out of ten to the staff and thank you for a lovely evening.

Decided on Hasting Bonfire night to just give it a try after years of walking passed. We have missed years of great food. We didn’t book but were lucky enough to be seated before the queue started. Friendly helpful staff, lovely cold glass of dry white, both had fantastic mushroom starter and our mains were delicious and good portions. Not rushed even though there were queues. Very reasonably priced. Lesson learnt don’t walk passed walk in.

This place was recommended to us by a pub in the old town for dinner. It was very busy but had lots of space. The main fish did take a while to come out. The food was very basic but it was ok, it was a good atmosphere in there and we had a really nice time.

Came across this place wandering through Hastings. They offer a large range of Italian food including gluten free pasta dishes, gf pizzas and also vegan as well as vegetarian! We had knickerbocker glory and bananas split! They were amazing, if you want good food then this is the place for you!!

Eigentlich sollte der Restaurantbesuch an diesem Abend klassisch werden. Da aber anscheinend viele Briten dort ein- und ausgingen..... war‘s ein Versuch wert. Sehr lecker, nettes Personal, Preise nicht überteuert für die erstklassige Lage.

Visited today with our family ! Second visit our first was 4 years ago! Still the same lovely food and brilliant hospitality! We have 3 young children and they were very welcomed and well catered for !! def worth a visit!!!

My sister & I ate here this evening and were treated wonderfully. My wheelchair was accepted v happily and they made space for it, were so friendly and the service was just right. Not hurried along but not left waiting. Definitely recommend for all occasions and the smoked salmon dish I had was really delicious at very reasonable prices.

We were looking for somewhere vegetarian friendly to go for lunch as myself and my 8 year old are vegetarian (my husband isn’t). We all loved our meals, we had homemade garlic bread with mozzarella which was very tasty, and our main meals were beautiful, the staff were lovely and I thought the service time was good. Vegetarian friendly (LOTS of options). We were also impressed with the value.

Situated on the seafront, the view from this restaurant looks right out to sea. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated and the staff are friendly . Food was also of a good quality , but was very slow . We waited an hour for our main course and that only arrived after I had got up and found a waiter and asked where our meal was. We received no apology for this at all .Meal price was reasonable ( but charging £5 for a pint of lager is excessive.) Nice food but I would not go back as I prefer more prompt service

It is often said that you can find the best places by how busy they are or get. This is really true of this restaurant. Have popped in several times and always wowed by the quality of the food with portion sizes that are just right. Had the lasagna this visit and it was still bubbling when served. The prices are on point and experience is great. Recommended.

Whilst visiting family in Hastings we had booked in to the Italian Way. I enjoyed a nice pizza, nice taste and flavours but base a little heavy. The Spag Bowl was ordered by one of the group, not much mince was in this one so most was left, not great. When the waitress attended our table ( after we had eaten but Not during ) we commented as to the quality of the Spag Bowl, without hesitation she apologised and said it would be removed from our bill, so Great Customer Service here, but pity we needed to make the complaint. Service was good, restaurant quite nice to sit in. Average review here but would come again if wanted Italian food. Thanks guys.

In Hastings for a day trip and needed somewhere to eat early evening on a Saturday c5pm. Having strolled around town we opted for The Italian Way. Not long after we sat down the place was full and tables were being reserved once vacated and so bookings early evening may be in order.

Visited this restaurant on our last night. We were in Hastings for 5 days but could not get in on previous days because it was packed out. Managed to get a table for 2 when we arrived (after a few minutes wait) at 6.30 pm but just after us people were asked to return a little later (which if they agreed to the waiters put "reserved" on the next table that became free). Despite us both liking Italian food we were not overly hungry so we ordered the house burger. It was very thick and cooked to perfection as were the chips. A very enjoyable meal.

Garlic bread with mozzarella starter. Lovely. Generous portions. Service amazing and very attentive. Good value. Would definitely recommend.

We popped into the Italian way for a lunchtime meal, the service was good, we weren't waiting long for our food. I had a pizza, it was slightly bigger than the plate which made it quite difficult to cut but it was very tasty. I was with two others who had pastas and they found it delicious too. The overall price was very good between the three of us, but we did not stay for dessert as we were full up from the mains which were a good size. Overall, a good meal.

Decided to eat here after a day out in Camber Sands no booking, on the off chance 4 adults and two children. They accommodated straight away. It was a Monday and they were busy so a good sign. Staff were great, putting two tables together. Food was lovely and staff were very efficient and helpful. Can't complain nice unhurried meal and well priced. Van recommend.

Me and my girlfriend went here on Saturday afternoon/evening and had a lovely time. We did not have a reservation but they happily and quickly seated us. The food was delicious, we both had 3 courses and the mains were particularly nice, I got the sea bass and my girlfriend got the sea food risotto. We will go back and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others to go here.

We visited around 7.30pm Thursday 5th July. Restaurant was quiet, the food was amazing, hot, decent sized portions and it arrived quickly. Staff were very friendly and polite. Don’t know why some people are writing bad reviews. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hastings. Prices were reasonable as well, and we were all stuffed after 1 main and 1 dessert.

Visited here on a night during half term in a party of 8, 4 adults, 4 children. The staff put 2 tables together so we all could sit together. The menu offered a varied range of Italian food all reasonably priced. The children's menu was extremely good value. The food was fresh and tasty and everybody enjoyed their meal. I had the calzone which was delicious. The desserts were also very good and were big portions. Overall very good and would definitely eat here again.

My boyfriend and I literally just visited for a date night (i’m in the car typing this as he drives).
