The Iron Duke in City of London, Westminster

Overpriced, rude staff, full of Mayfair wannabe-wide boys … and don’t take cash. I know that’s the new norm but if I’m having my pants pulled down I expect an attempt at civility.

Lovely pub, good atmosphere, friendly staff. We ordered 2 pints and 2 glasses of wine. We accept that price of wine at £8.40 each may be normal for London. But to be charged £3.46 for service is appalling. Why is there a service charge? We got our drinks from the bar and sat down. No one served us. I feel sorry for tourists visiting London who would not be prepared for this. Won't be going again.

Servers were welcoming and friendly. The food was fresh and delicious and a good value. I had hummus and baba ganoush with pita and my mate had the chicken club. Chips were perfection. Will definitely return.

Great little bar in the heart of the city. Some decent real ales on and gets quite busy late afternoon. Very clean place

We come here regularly with the work team and it is a good little drinking pub out of the way of the crowds of Mayfair and Oxford Circus. The is plenty of seating inside as well suitable space to stand outside. They have a good selection of drinks and the price is fairly standard

Looked promising, fairly good menu, not a lot of beers to choose from – but good. But the service … It took them 40 minutes to produce two fish&chips and one burger (not that many people ordering food at that time). Even some extra ketchup we had to ask three times for. Were they watching Six Nations instead of cooking and serving? Poor!

We stopped in for a few pints at this cool pub just off South Bond St. Staff was super friendly and place was very clean and bright (not dark and dingy like a lot of the "old pubs of London"). Restaurant upstairs looks very nice, but we had already ate.

This lovely pub to me, is your typical London pub, situated in Mayfair and has everything that a London pub should have i.e. character, friendliness, traditional London ales (Fullers) and good food from a limited but more than sufficient menu. We visited for lunch and there was ample seating, which very soon started to fill up. I can't say that prices were cheap, but possibly better than our expectations for this area of the city. No disappointments on service or quality of food and we would always return if in that area again.

Great pub with a nice atmosphere! Had a round of guiness’ which can be hit and miss but they were superb stood outside in the sunshine after work! Will certainly come back.

It was one of the hottest days of the year and our wedding party was en route between the registery office in Marylebone and a Dean Street dining venue - a pied! Through the shimmering heat-haze hove into view this small and welcoming purveyor of ice-cold Bolney fizz. We were made to feel at home from the get go and it took a huge amount of persuasion to prise me away when the dinner gong sounded! Many, many thanks. You have a lovely pub.

We booked this for an event in October and glad we did . As soon as we walked in the staff were so lovely and welcoming and very chatty. Great food and fantastic location. Looking forward to coming again

It's a nice looking pub. And it has five star staff. I would have preferred the guinness to have been even colder, but hey, that's just me. The peroni and the asahi both delivered. It was quite warm in there on our visit, but as Mrs.Electric wasn't collapsing into a pool of sweat, I would guess that that was probably me too... It was very popular, very busy. Which was to be expected as it was Friday afternoon and the worker bees were in thirsty anticipation of the weekend. It was a little too crowded for my personal taste, so i couldn't really get the atmosphere and general vibe of the place. But my metaphorical hat must be raised to salute the aforementioned five star staff, who did a super job of serving everyone while still being friendly and smiling. Well done! Food not tested on this occasion.

Company do with food and drinks. Fish & chips was really good (few more chips please). A friend who eats a lot of burgers said his burger was one of the best he’d ever had. The sticky toffee pudding was loved by all.

We had a party in a private room and left our coats and bags there to go to the bar downstairs to get a drink as there wasnt service in the private room. Our coats and bags were stolen whilst we were downstairs. The staff weren't sympathetic when we told them and were unhelpful. We called the police to review their CCTV but have had no positive outcome.

We came here for a friend’s birthday party and they set us up with a private room upstairs. The issue was that there was no bar upstairs so we dropped our stuff off and went downstairs to get drinks. In the meantime, someone literlally came and stole all our coats and bags. This was 20 minutes. When we told th bar what happened and asked the bar to see the CCTV, they refused and said it was probably someone in our own party. Given how quickly it happened and how uncooperative the bar was, we have to assume it was an inside job. Don’t come to this bar unless you want to be literally robbed!!!

We were three having a pre-lunch drink and the place was fairly quiet at 1.00pm. The bar staff were efficient and friendly and the prices were average for two pints and a glass of wine.

Encontré este pub por casualidad mientras buscaba un restaurante para almorzar. Está un poco escondido del bullicio y ajetreo. Fue simplemente perfecto para lo que necesitábamos. Bastante tranquilo, una buena opción de menú y un menú de aperitivos, lo cual es bueno si no estás buscando una comida pesada. Elegimos los sándwiches de pescado que se servían con pan de buena calidad y con patatas fritas para acompañar. Buena variedad de vinos y cervezas, etc., disponibles como se espera, además de servir café. A un precio razonable para el área y realmente no puedes equivocarte con un pub Fullers. Recomendado.

Teníamos una habitación en este pub reservado por nuestra sociedad para salir por la noche y coincidió con la primera noche del nuevo menú de comida y vino del pub (5 de abril). Tuve el fish & chips, seguido de un par de copas de Shiraz. Ambos fueron realmente buenos. El pescado era bastante enorme incluso para los estándares del pub, la masa crujiente dorada y el tamaño de la porción de papas fritas era justo para mí (no demasiado pequeño ni tan grande que me sentiría mal por eso más tarde). I had the chance of spending some spare time at this cinveniently located Pub in London. Despite of a good selection of Ales have to say the food was not above my expectations and also the staff was not friendly as supposed to be. Can't say that it was a bad experience but would love to suggest to the manager to do some efforts to improve the attitide of the staff

Pubs like this are dying out. In Mayfair, where property prices are sky high, so many pubs have closed to become residential flats or trendy, expensive restaurants. Here is the original item, a good, straightforward pub with food and Fuller's beer.

Yeah drinks in London are expensive but its a shame because this pub was really nice, friendly staff, great atmostphere and I could easily spend hours here.

Ate here mid afternoon and the place was pretty full, certainly the tables were although not many drinking.

I have visited the Iron Duke several times now, each time greated with a friendly welcome. A quaint little pub with a good vibe. The halloumi was yummy accompanied by my favourite beer...can't beat a London Pride

Absolute terrible food. We went for lunch and had fish and chips which we left and braised beef which consisted of 2 fatty slides of beef which wasn’t braised and mash that was so hard and dry it could have been used as a lethal weapon. Nice pub to drink in but don’t eat there.

Have been to the Iron Duke for years and can’t recommend enough. Colin behind the bar is great! Great customer service :)

Visitamos este almuerzo como parte de un almuerzo de negocios. El personal era lento y confuso, pero eso puede ser justificado por falta de experiencia o entrenamiento. La comida llegó 25 minutos después, una pechuga de pollo arrugada, que aunque tan estructuralmente sólida como el titanio tenía la mitad del sabor. En mi opinión no profesional, había sido cocinado al menos 3 veces para muchos.

It looked good walking by so we went in for a pint. It is a nice little pub and seemed like they had a lot of regulars. Very traditional British pub, no frills just some tables and nice atmosphere and a bar. I think they had food but all we had was a pint.

This little gem was made even better by the waitress. She even helped me find a toy store to get my son a special souvenir - a London police car. The food was yummy- we got the fish and chips with mushy peas! The drink was perfect and the ambiance was just what I had imagined an English pub to be - quaint, loud and full of life! It was a delight!

Myself and 2 friends made a day visit to London on the occasion of the RAF100th anniversary. Having watched the display we were looking for a nice pub, away from the crowds, to have lunch. Unsure where to go we caught the tube to Bond Street, and headed off down the side streets, coming across the Iron Duke. A very pleasant pub in a nice location and a nice welcome from the bar staff. We all ordered one of the specials, beef sandwiches, with a bowl of chips as an add-on. Regrettably, the beef was like eating shoe leather and the chips weren't great either.

Helt klart den bästa fish & chips vi lyckats äta i London. Övrig mat vi ätit har också hållit mycket hög klass. Skön atmosfär i lokalen och trevlig och mycket uppmärksam personal. Mycket rimliga priser. Ett favoritstället helt enkelt.

Pasó por la plancha Duke para un par de pintas, mientras que en la zona. Era refrescante encontrar un agradable pub que no estaba abarrotado de gente en un domingo por la tarde. Aunque un poco más concurrido y tenían una función privada por la noche. Había una gran selección de cervezas, vinos y licores con uno de mis favoritos de sidras Cornish (proyecto) en Orchard, así que estaba contento. Una buena manera de empezar un domingo por la tarde. A great friendly pub where six of us had lunch. With one exception, the call was for Fish & Chips. What a good choice. A very enjoyable meal with equally good wine. Will be back.

Parecía estar bien aunque un poco pequeña y estrecha. Nos fuimos en un día caluroso para tomar una copa y un aperitivo. Terminamos pidiendo las patatas fritas con mayonesa truffled pero sirvieron ordinaria mayo con nuestros chips que eran simplemente bien.

We became regulars, yes, it’s that good! Great drinks and delicious food. Please check the daily specials. It feels like a good country pub in the middle of London.

We made a last minute booking and were met with a warm welcome. Food was fantastic; we both had the Sunday roast of beef and chicken. Would recommend.

This is a small old pub with character, as the name suggests it boast Wellington style riding boots. The beer was good.

Excellent pub in a side street off Mayfair but was delightful .

I popped into n for a soft drink into what appeared to be a very small shoe-box pub, what a lovely surprise when the cosy interior unfolds before you (point 1). I settled in at the bar and was met promptly by the bar supervisor, whom was refreshingly courteous, very professional, and very knowledgable about both the drinks available and the surprisingly varied food menu, ( point 2) the latter I found to be a mix of traditional and very ‘mayfair’ dishes ( point 3). The clientele were a pleasant crowd, which made me feel I could simply relax on my own ( point 4), when the bar supervisor asked what kind of drink I like, I described the full bodied red wine variety, and she offered a very pleasant Malbec, perfect! (Point 5). I had my small glass of red and left after an hour or so. All in all, this is one of those gems that you find from time to time, and I highly recommend this place to visit.

Vi besökte puben för något och dricka och stannade även för lunch. Mycket trevlig serveringspersonal och bra pubmat presenterad på tallriken med stil gör att vi kan rekommendera stället för att inta en bra lunch till en acceptabel prisnivå.

Yo quería que esta. Cosméticamente, es un gran ejemplo de la clásica pub inglés, y que barrio fue recomendado. Dicho esto, me sentí un poco como una persona. Cuando entré y nos acercamos a la barra (un poco después de la fiebre de la comida, por cierto - que no parecía muy lleno, pero que puede haber sido un trabajador corta), me dijeron que para encontrar un asiento, y que me dan. "Así que esperé, probablemente de unos 15 - 20 minutos. Por último, conscientes de que nadie iba a darme un menú, volví al bar. Por este tiempo otra persona había tomado la estación y me dieron un menú. Me las arreglé para el orden en el lugar y mi comida llegaba un tiempo razonable después de no rápidamente, pero mi espera no fue exagerada. Encargué un plato de jamón con algún tipo de salsa de melocotón, no me di cuenta de que era más una ensalada de nada. No estaba mal, pero no era sustancial ofrece esperaba, quizás mi culpa por pedir tan rápidamente y probar algo que no estaba familiarizado. Así que no fue una comida desastrosa, pero me sentí como más de una plaga de un patrón. Lástima, como he dicho, quería realmente como este pub. Quizás fue simplemente un mal día para ambos.

It's been a while since we had the opportunity to visit Mayfair, when we had a few times over the past 2 years we were never let down, in fact always each time the whole experience excelled our expectations hence our first chance in the area we went back.Last night was no exception. A lovely welcome as always, we I tended to eat and was informed the special was Dover Sole, I went for that and my Husband went for 3 started as a main.. like a tapas he said. The fish for me was by far THE best Dover Sole I had ever eaten! My husband enjoyed his starters and Millie just enjoyed the attention and cheeky piece from her dad's plate as I wasn't sharing mine which is very rare.The food, the staff, the whole feel and location. I would never go anywhere else when in the area and soooo wish it was my local.. but then I'd get bigger and bigger haha. Fran even remembered us from November last year!! That is personal and really lovely!Be seeing you soon!

While the service was pleasant; the food was slightly worse than the other pubs that I hit in London.And while most of the pubs are owned by a few companies - they differ in food quality based on management.Anyway, I wouldn't go back. Nor would I suggest a special trip to visit it.

We spent a really lovely afternoon here pre "proms in the park" it's tucked away in a little side street and it had a bit of a local feel to it! I had the house burger which was juicy and extremely tasty, the fries were GREAT and so was the sticky toffee pudding.It's a nice little place with a fabulous knowledgeable front of house manager, she made us feel really welcome! the food was very good as was the beer, the price was right too,we'll definitely return when we are back in London. Saturday lunch, this was a great pit stop from a days shopping around the Bond Street and oxford st area. Nice intimate feel, clean and friendly. Whilst not a huge or exciting menu, had more going on than just burgers and pies, pretty tasty and served with a smile.

This is a nice pub, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Also it's down a very pretty, quaint old London allyway, giving it a really nice feel.Being a central London pub, right next to Bond Street, it is quite expensive. I've been to cheeper and nicer places elsewhere, including later that evening!

I had drinks here with friends during a pub crawl. The outside looked inviting and clean. Inside was even better with fresh décor and friendly staff. Nice range of drinks on offer and plenty of seating. Would visit again.

The fish and chips were amazing, but the appetizers were not that great. The calamari hand flavor, and the croquettes were very bland. They claimed they were kid friendly on their website, but once you get there it does not feel kid friendly at all. Would not recommend brining kids after 8.

We literally stumbled across this pub trying to navigate our way to a cocktail bar in Hanover Square - we never did get there. A friendly welcome to this genuinely straightforward pub. Considering the environs this was not particularly expensive and obviously has a regular clientele. Certainly worth looking out for and an antidote to the horrors of Oxford Street.

We had pre-booked a table for 7pm but arrived early and received a warm welcome with no trouble to accommodate us for our evening meal. Lovely little pub just off Bond Street and like an oasis of calm amongst the shoppers. The fish and chips perfectly cooked with home made chips and very tasty. Can highly recommend this pub and it will certainly be on our list for our next visit to London.

Whilst in Bond Street my friend mentioned that she fancied chips & a glass of wine for lunch so stumbled upon the Iron Duke in Avery Row not far from where we were. What a great pub with a fantastic wine selection and simple pub food cooked very well.The chips were the best we'd ever had accompanied by panko coated fish goujons and these were equally as good, fresh & plump pieces of fish.All in all a great find and will definitely be returning, also I will be spreading the word amongst friends.

Called in here after walking around Mayfair. The girls behind the bar were friendly. The food menu looked good but nothing was gluten free so we just had 2 drinks & moved on. Very clean toilets & bar area.

Down a hidden street this was just what we needed. Very quiet for central London. We had the trio of dips, which were very tasty but not that plentiful. The Tempranillo was well priced so all in all filled a gap.

The pub is nice, and well located, right in the middle of the shopping district. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the food is slightly different than from all other pubs. I'd certainly recommend the Small Calves liver and the chicken wings.

every time I go to London I must go to my absolute favorite pub The Iron Duke pup, food, beer and wine are always top notch, the setting is fabulous, the staff and manager are very friendly and competent available educated. I highly recommend you visit it, do not rimmarrete disappointed.

The meal was bland, badly cooked and uninteresting. I expected the hamburger to be cooked as I wanted to be and if the meat is of good quality there is no reason for it not to be cooked to complete and utter dryness. No relishes were served and when tomato ketchup was requested it took so long to come that I had to go downstairs and make another request. The chips were white and flavourless. When I later gave my opinion of the meal and service I was told that I was talking down to the staff and that they were known for their hamburgers and that I was rude. Good luck to the Manageress who likes to disregard the experiences of her diners because I will not go there again .

Fantastic, small pub to escape the hustle of the surrounding area. Ales on tap went down well and the honey sausages fantastic. Great staff too, so helpful and chatty. I've visited a few times and will continue to do so when I'm in the area.

Great staff however the table was not very clean even though it was early in the day and there was hardly any customers in.The real ale was very cold, but was was very disappointing was the food. I had a Chicken & bacon club. The bread in the toasted sandwich was not only burnt but also soggy. not nice.

Good selection of beers, service quick and friendly Nice pub inside but it's better to stand outside on a warm dry evening soaking up the atmosphere.Prices were reasonable for this part of town.It's certainly a place to go back to.Situated 5 minutes from Bond Street walk down South Molton street and cross the road.

If your in London you must visit here. Great welcome with friendly bubbly staff, amazing food and a great atmosphere. Francesca the manager really makes you feel special. Great range of craft beers on tap. 10/10

Had lunch with my friend here, served by the very friendly, charming and outgoing Fran the pub Manager. Drinks very reasonable, good choice, and food was excellent. The pub itself is charming and off the hussle and bussle of the main street. Hanging baskets outside a delight too! All round a great afternoon. Thanks Fran.

My husband and I went to The Iron Duke for Sunday lunch and it was amazing! Excellent quality beef, with all the trimmings, and at £13.50 per head in Mayfair was excellent value. There is a good wine list and the pub is spotlessly clean. We sat in the upstairs dining room and it was a little oasis of calm moments away from the madness of Oxford Street. The staff were charming and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely return!

A charming, welcoming and friendly pub- we had 3 beautiful courses served by friendly and attentive staff. We visited pre-theatre and it was one of the best experiences we have had dining at this time, nothing was rushed and time between each course well spaced. We finally decided on macaroni cheese and trout salad for the main course, both were simply perfect. Do visit if you get chance, you won't be disappointed!

we booked our wedding reception lunch here and Francesca made it just perfect. The tables were decorated with white linen with fresh flowers as decoration. She was a star in serving the 3 course lunch. It was great. The food was very good and everyone was happy. The portions were big, it looked great and everthing tasted delicious. On top of that the prices are very reasonable. She did everything for us to be happy. We will surely be back :)

Visited here for a light snack and had a very warm welcome on entry. The landlady & staff was very polite, sociable, cultured & well mannered. The food I'd give 9.5 out of 10 for presentation, taste & quality.

If you are looking for a nice cosy pub to grab a pint in and don't want to venture too far from oxford circus or bond street, The Iron Duke is your place. Not full of tourists and still having that London Pub charm.

We were visiting the HandelHendrix museum and this pub is located just around the corner. Small and very friendly welcome.The food was good standard pub grub but the prices were a bit toppish, having said which I suppose this is Mayfair.However, I would still recommend this pub.

A wonderful old British pub. Great choice of menu and drinks. We had the ploughman's platter. We shared and there was plenty for the 2 of us. The staff were so friendly. If you are ever in the area make sure you pop in to The Iron Duke.

We had the pleasure of staying in the area and ate and drank at the Iron Duke - we were met by Francesca and her adorable team over 2 days and were treat like royalty - don't get me wrong this is a small place and gets REALLY busy but it's just got that special something. We only a few minutes walk to Hyde park so based ourselves at 'the duke'. One of the mornings all we fancied was a good old bacon button and Carly the chef rustled these up for us even through they weren't on the menu - and I have to say they were THE best we've ever had ! My family and I visited the Iron Duke whilst in London a few weeks ago, and had an excellent meal, with excellent service. We were made to feel extremely welcome and we're able to please my fussy eaters (The Kids) would highly recommend a visit.Thank you for a pleasurable visit we'll be visiting again soon.

My husband and I stumbled across this backyard pub whilst shopping in London recently so decided to shelter from the rain and (try to) enjoy a spot of lunch. We were "greeted" by Francesca, the manager, who rudely asked us if we were eating or drinking as that was the deciding factor if we could sit down or had to stand even though there were many spare tables and chairs. My husband ordered fish and chips whilst I ordered a salad. The fish was quite clearly frozen as it was completely tasteless, not eatable, mostly batter, and his chips, all 12 of them, were fried to death. My salad looked like it was prepared the previous week, limp, brown leaves and no avocado. As Francesca had already been rude to my husband when he ordered more drinks (and when we arrived!) we decided not to complain about the food and instead left disappointed and very hungry. We will not be returning to this establishment. my husband didn't use the rest room but the ladies were disgustingly dirty and clearly hadn't been cleaned in weeks! Pure Filth. Beware and stay away if you value your health.

We were out for a walk after arriving in London and found ourselves at the Iron Duke. We were graciously welcomed by Francesca. We each had fish and chips with a pint. It was delicious and quite tender. Dessert was a warm brownie with ice cream, a fabulous finish! Francesca helped us with directions back to our hotel as we were quite disoriented!
