Been meaning to go here for ages and it didn't disappoint. Nice and relaxed on a Saturday afternoon, great beer and the tapas was so good

Young guy behind the bar was super friendly, recommended ‘Stephenson brown’ and it didn’t disappoint. Really lovely setting, bright and clean pub. Didn’t eat here this time but menu looks awesome. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The new owners have done an amazing job with this pub - it’s become the busy, warm & friendly local it should have always been - as well as a fab selection of beers, wine, etc & of course the amazing tapas & sharing boards, yum! 😋

Cosy and welcoming couldn't fault it

Went with a friend. The staff are very nice and the food was very nice too. Its a bit on the pricy side for what you are ordering. The only downside for me is there was quiet a lot of dogs in the pub too. I think they should have an option for a dog free side for people dining also.

Popped in with a friend had the tapas meatballs & lamb kebabs best I've ever tasted very succulent & just right amount of spices we also a generous portion of chips. Fab staff very friendly, lovely place & very welcoming. Can't wait to go back. Highly reccomend you wont be disappointed..

Popped in as haven't been in since it was taken over by the new landlords. It's been done out lovely, just like their old pub the Knavesmire.

First time in for a long long while and first time since re opening. Had a pint of Ainsty Ales Citra . Very clean and tidy inside. Nicely decorated.

Nice pub. Regular selection of Thwaites beers. Nice tapas but it's a bit pricey at £9 for 4 meatballs.

This place needs to decide if they are a pub or a restaurant. Food service was terrible on our visit. Our plates were not cleared and we were not offered desserts. Will not return

We just popped in on the off chance. How wonderful to find Spanish tapas on the menu! Tasted very authentic too. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Live music seemed to entice lots of locals in. Pity we had to leave for my friend to get the train.

This place has undergone a transformation. Gone are the rude, complacent former bosses and what has replaced them are a fantastic range of new beers and wines, excellent tapas food, a lively atmosphere encouraging new visitors and old stalwarts alike and friendly staff making a huge effort. Keep it up well done.

This pub has been taken over by an experienced landlady, they have done a great job transforming this pub into a super friendly environment, it is dog friendly, offers some great beers and wonderful food including sharing boards and some great small plate tapas. The staff are all fantastic and I cannot fault this place, it is our new local now.

Had the lamb kofa it was so tasty. The staff are very friendly, will definitely go again.

Had a lovely afternoon today at the Inn on the green! We used to be regulars at one time but over the years the standards went down after a few different changes in landlords/ladies. The last time we came in before it shut the bar woman was exceptionally rude so we stopped going in. We are so pleased it's now been given a makeover & the new owners & staff are so lovely. As soon as we went in today we were looked after. The very friendly barman was so helpful & cheerful. We ordered from the small plates menu, I had the haddock chowder & my hubby had the lamb koftas, we both had a portion of fries. The chowder was fresh, homemade & was so delicious, it came with a piece of bread & butter too. Hubby was really pleased with the koftas, he said they were very tasty. There is a lovely choice of tapas style food served here & we will definitely come again. They are very dog friendly & our dog was very happy with his treat, he will definitely take us here again when we are passing on our walks! It got really busy late afternoon & had a really nice atmosphere, we will look forward to coming again & supporting our local once again. Good luck with your new venture 👍

Great to have the pub open and thriving

Atmosphere and decor will keep bringing people in. Very comfortable. Different from usual pub fare, Spanish style mainly. Good food, tasty, with fast friendly service. Need a bit of work on portion size, small for pub meals.

Fantastic new venture! Wandered in for lunch on their first open afternoon. Very busy but a lovely calm ambience, an extensive drinks menu and tasty food! Will definitely be successful!

Couldn't believe the cocktail range and value. A cosmopolitan menu in a locals setting. The food menu looked good so somewhere we will definitely be returning to again when in York

I visit the Inn on the Green regularly. It's good to see them serving food again from Sloppy's burgers. There's live music on Sundays and Mondays. Darts and a pool team.The garden is ideal for a nice sunny day. Friendly staff and customers always made to feel welcome.

I came for the beer, I stayed for the house dog. Her name is sukie and dispute an initial bark as I entered the pub (I was wearing a skeepskin jacket which dogs often do smell), she became my best friend for the day. Cuddly and playful, spend the day drinking with friends and playing fetch and tug of War (with sukie not my friends). The landlady also has a kitten which was really cute, i hud fun teasing her with tinsel and laughing when she climbed the Xmas tree. The drinks are great here, guinness is creamy as it should be and they have a surprisingly long cocktail menu. The cocktails can be strong too which I prefer as it's more bang for your buck. They have darts, pool, beer garden and pub meals. They also do live music 3 days a week and are soon getting BT sport in. Needless to say, they cater for everyone here which is so rare for an independant pub. I've found my fav local

Just back from trying my new local pub for the first time. Really great well kept ale and freshly cooked food which was very tastey and good value. Fabulous freshly made real chips...always a treat. We had the beef and ale pie and the haddock and chips....both really good.

Looks to have a busy dining client, Big upgrade on the last visit as far as the seating arrangements go. After the diners departed ,only a few stayed for the music.more people would have helped create some atmosphere. As with most bars these days ,a smile is a precious thing ,a bit like a unicorns horn, if you can find one.

New cocktail menu is banging, music on a monday night, me and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed this hidden gem of a pub. A busy Monday with pool and darts teams in, plenty going on, they do food to, had the parmo, it was gorgeous and hand cut chips. Decor is like a modern lounge. Will come back weekly now.

Greeted by a dog who barked at us as we came through door, while getting served a cat walked across the bar. Our glasses were filthy. I wouldn't use the ladies because I was afraid of the dog but reading last review I'm glad I didn't. We won't be returning that's for sure.

Came here a year ago for a family Sunday lunch, not the best ever but it was decent and the staff were great, quite liked the place… Not quite sure what’s happened but this visit was dire to the point I won’t ever return. When we walked in we had a pretty meaty dog barking at our little girl to the point it was getting worrying and I had to step in the middle thinking it may bite her, she was terrified… the staff just stood and stared at us blank. The bar girl had no idea what she was doing, I felt sorry for her, it was pretty clear she had been dumped on the bar by management without any training. The glasses were filthy, our girls glass of milk had a nice chunk of god knows what stuck to the side of it. There was no children’s food menu or any kids option at all (Sunday lunch only) so the kids were forced to eat a meal they didn’t like or want. What pub doesn’t cater for kids… especially on a Sunday ?! The food.. I’m being completely honest… it was the worse Sunday dinner I have ever eaten. Meat was tough and really cheap bad cuts (on everyone’s plate), it was freezing cold, the veg was mush. The stuffing was slop. Mash was lumpy. Yorkshire’s we’re burnt. Just horrible. We had to get our own condiments… and find them ourselves. I asked for my food to be warmed up as it was cold… it came back no warmer. After an hour of looking at our dirty plates on the table while chatting, we decided to clear the table ourselves, staff watched on with no offers to clear them. I would add we were the only people in… along with one other local. I honestly think they just couldn’t be bothered. The toilets absolutely stank !!! Someone commented it smelt like someone had died in there and another that they smelt of urine. Terrible management who, judging from this and previous reviews (and managers responses)… really need to take a big step back, stop trying to defend the reviews.. and just re-evaluate where they are at before they go out of business very quickly, we were the only group in there eating… there’s a reason for this. Just a god awful experience I won’t ever repeat. You mention below in your response that the party size doubled an hour before you opened, this is inaccurate, it’s true there was an addition shortly before you opened but we both know if was only 1 adult and two young children that were added. We also asked on the phone if that would be ok and apologised for the short notice.. which you kindly said it would be fine?! Positives.. the beer tasted ok. I am genuinely sorry for the brutal review, I don’t take any enjoyment in posting this, I did debate whether to post it.. but I feel it’s necessary in the hope you actually take it on board and really turn your pub around to turn it into a roaring success… best of luck 🤞🏼

In light of a poor review for Xmas day I am a regular in this pub and its great a lovely pub run by Katie a lovely woman who unfortunately came down with covid on Xmas day she tried her best to get cover but at such short notice was unfortunate this is a lovely pub with a very friendly atmosphere Katie the landlady is gutted over Xmas day but having tested positive she did the right thing by her customers in self isolating she could do no more but protecting her customers was her uppermost thought thank you Katie

We use this local on quite a regular basis so decided to put our trust in them for Christmas lunch 😀, we'll we arrived at 1, by around 2.35 we had our starter delivered, at 16.00 we were still waiting on our mains, then they arrived, if we hadn't paid so much I think I would have seriously cried. Everything was cold except the gravy, and because my little one had waited for so long she was past herself (20 months) and needed a sleep so couldn't/didn't want to eat. The mains were that bad we nibbled off it and left with out waiting another 4 hours for our desert and cheese board! Not worth the £140 we paid for lunch itself, then a further £30 for drinks whilst there! Also PS smash on a Christmas lunch isn't great!, the pigs in blankets would have been lovely if we'd recieved them! And as for the veg, we'll let's just have a giggle now!

Terrible roast dinner! Early on the day, suspect the veg had been cooking overnight they were so mushy. Solitary roast parsnip was hard and the roast potatoes were 5 tiny diced potatoes from the freezer. Never again!

I'm a regular drinker here, but never had the food. What a burger, the Staple food of any pub, I always order a double but the the hostess with the mostess also gave me double cheese to boot. Hand cut chips, not too salty, the perfect pint of guiness and I was welcomed and so looked after. Huge well kept beer garden with modern yet rustique pub look. A great local with awsome staff.

Quite possibly the worst Sunday family meal I’ve ever had in years. So disappointed we visited here a year or so ago and it was a lovely meal. We were greeted by the most unwelcoming barmaid ever. I ordered a pot of tea which came over with a dirty cup and a sugar pot which had clearly been used by an other visitor (very covid safe) then when seated the young girl didn’t have a clue what meat was on I was told large plates were not in use due to taking a booking on last min they haven’t cooked enough meat. When there meals arrived they were really cold so many had to be sent back to be reheated as the tiny pots of gravy given didn’t warm them up. I asked for some more gravy and they stood over me waiting for my tiny gravy pot to take back to refill…..oh dear. We sat for precisely an hour after finishing with our finished dishes scattered over the table. In the end we had to start clearing them away to the bar where the waitress didn’t offer to come get them and clean the table and stood and watched me. A lady leaving even thanked me for the meal and said bye thinking I was a member of staff….I told her I was a customer. The toilets are appalling it smells as if the carpets are covered in wee. And the landlady is possibly the rudest hard faced woman I’ve ever met (on a few visits) . Sad to say on speaking to people in the acomb area they say the same of the place has gone drastically down hill. This place used to be booming there was only us and another family

Nice family run pub enjoyed my evening out my taxi was later in picking me up and landlady came out to see if I was OK which was really kind.

We went up tonight 07/10/20 to the Inn On The Green for my mother in laws birthday party of 5 We were asked if we would give our details for track and trace my hubby was the only one without the app so he gave his name and number on paper the rest of us used the QR code on our apps When we sat down we had a lovely polite woman come over and took our order for the drinks they came back to the table very quickly We had pre booked our meals yesterday so we sat and waited 10 mins for our food to come out the food as always was absolutely gorgeous the Tennessee burgers are delicious (so my hubby and son tell me 😂) Going up to this pub is a must if not only to enjoy lovely freshly home cooked food to help keep this superb little pub open We will definitely be back soon

Luego esperamos. 28 minutos más tarde pedimos más bebidas, a través de Whatsapp, y nuevamente tuvimos que pagar con tarjeta antes de poner las bebidas en la mesa. Luego esperamos. A las 8, 55 minutos después de nuestro pedido, el marido fue al bar a preguntar por la comida. Se les dijo que estaban "cubiertos de nieve", ¡absolutamente nadie más tenía comida en sus mesas! Muy poco después de esto, una mujer (sin cubrirse la cara) literalmente arrojó cubiertos y bolsitas sobre la mesa y le dijo muy groseramente a mi esposo que no habíamos pedido hasta las 7. 15 (¡Whatsapp no miente y no me gusta que me llamen mentiroso a mi marido!) Y no sabíamos que se necesitan 40 minutos para cocinar un Teeside Parmo. Los puntos de venta de Teeside suelen gestionarlo en unos 10.Honestamente, no puedo comentar sobre la calidad de la comida tan indignado por la total mala educación. Luego nos gritó por mover una silla a una mesa que estaba un poco más limpia que el resto que obviamente no se había limpiado en mucho tiempo. Los ceniceros estaban desbordados y se sentía extremadamente incómodo. Nos marchamos dejando nuestras bebidas después de hablar con las chicas en la mesa de al lado y decirles que ella también había sido agresiva con ellos. Definitivamente nunca volvería a regresar

Have visited Inn on the green on numerous occasions and it never fails to deliver, popped in Saturday the 11th as a treat for my mums birthday (it’s become a tradition we venture here for her birthday now) staff were very friendly and warming as usual, ordered drinks which were brilliant as normal and asked about food and was told there may be a little wait which was fine as creating masterpieces takes time, we ordered food my mum went for fish and chips....the fish was more of a whale, I went for the inn on the green combo, both absolutely massive portions and arrived a lot sooner than the wait time we were given which was obviously a massive surprise and bonus, the food was presented beautfiul and of course tasted out of this world, both meals for around £18 which when you look at portion sizes is an absolute steal! Couldn’t manage to finish it all this time, however last time I was here I went for the Tennessee burger and had to make a little visit to the toilet to make more room it was that good I wasn’t leaving it! Another thing I really like is how they use the local butchers for all of their meat and it’s always top quality. Would shout from the hills that everybody pops in and tries the food, you won’t be disappointed! Thanks for looking after us again and we’ll see you soon!

Warm and inviting pub. Food is great, homemade pies are to die for! We visit most sundays for there carvery which is great then live bands after what more could you want? Great friendly service, nice family run pub just what acomb needs.

My wife and I spent an enjoyable day at our local pub for our Christmas Day Dinner. The three course meal was delicious and good value for the money, the atmosphere was great and the staff worked their socks off to make us feel welcome. There was a slight delay in being seated but all in all we had a lovely day and we have booked again for next year, We often visit the Inn On The Green for Sunday Lunch followed by a live band, great way to spend s Sunday afternoon.

I want to say thank you to the Inn on the Green and staff for such a fantastic Christmas day dinner. I had a wonderful day with great people, I had a great time with all the staff who made my visit extra festive. The food was beautiful, especially the roast beef. I also want the recipe for the cheesy Brussel sprouts, cooked to perfection! I loved the atmosphere that you and the staff created. I would highly recommend to friends to do the same next year. Oh and without having to say, but I will, the beer was on top form as always. Will be in again soon. Happy New Year to you all xxx

Where to start?! A table of 15 of us arrived at just before two for our Christmas dinner to be told there was a little wait and to be ushered outside into the garden. We understood it was busy fair enough to be 5/10 minutes behind but not 30 minutes! We then went into the pub a few at a time to get a drink while we waited to be told 'can you move away from the bar, we will get you a drink when you sit down!'. We then waited another 20 minutes outside, all I can say is thank god it wasn't raining!! We finally sat down and waited for our starters which were shocking! Our table was booked for two and we did not receive our main meal till after 4! We ordered our wine, which they put to one end of the table and said 'it's free you can sort it out yourselves!'. Our "Christmas dinner" was non of the sort! A few scraps of meat as the other sitting 'had loads', hardly any veg! The staff were so rude! To finish it off some of the party we're almost overcharged, because they 'forgot to take the deposit off. Funny how they were running late due to the other table paying their Bill? Makes me wonder if this happened with a few people that day! My mum rang later that day to complain to be told she was a 'liar' and told to 'f**k off'. They don't know the meaning of customer service! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

7 of us called in for a bit of karaoke, nice place and very welcoming staff. Good night had by all. Food available as well up to 9pm, will definitely be back.

Booked a Christmas dinner for our family of 15 for 2. No room at the inn; We had to stand outside in the garden for one hour in the freezing cold. Eventually we were seated onto a disgusting filthy table. Drinks;Red and white wine were thrown at us in a heap at the end of the table. We then asked for soft drinks for the children but we were told by very rude and aggressive staff, that we would have to go and buy our own at the bar. Starters are not worth a mention. Main meal:Crumbs for meat,no stuffing, no vegg and then we had to beg for a couple of parsnips, a black burnt chewy yorkshire pud, one tiny scoop of mash and freezing cold roast potatoes well if that what you called them. Pudding:christmas pud the piste of resistance a pretend one served with some sort of liquid custard. The owner and staff were very rude and to add insult to injury then tried to overcharge us for one of the worst dining expereience we ever had. AVOID AT ALL COST stay at home and have beans on toast.

Christmas lunch yesterday was disgusting I was invited to join my daughters partners family so it really wasn't my place to complain being a guest . We pre ordered and booked for 2pm however we we informed the previous booking on our table wouldn't leave so we were told to wait outside no room at the inn . If you were the people at the table prior to us please get in touch I feel sure you had issues too . Finally seated over an hour late we had yet another wait for starters over 30 minutes prawn cocktail for me very poor salty basic to say least , followed by another long wait whilst we started to clear the table ourselfs asked for a bag for crackers ect which we eventually had to dispose of under the table then a long wait for mains turkey was dry to say the least I don't know anyone who got a slice it was crumbs beef over done one small slice no Yorkshire pudding was so dry couldn't cut let alone eat no gammon no broccoli or cauliflower just dregs no mash run out, people who were waiting on more mash were asked to move away . One vegatarian who ordered nut roast got mushroom pasty and couldn't east it doesn't like mushrooms leg of lamb was another wait and was lamb shank ,people were asked if thay wanted white or red wine which wasn't given out dumped at the end of the table and when customers ask where there wine was they were told there was plenty on the table to go round , a child's meal was requested and refused said no child meal was ordered they would have to have adults, on paying a child's was refused and was charged as adults and Deposit pre paid wasn't deducted so customer was charged £150 rather than £95 owed this was only rectified upon questions were asked . When on getting home I phoned to complain the manageress called me a liar saying we were 20 mins late to be seated and the food was prefect, when I said I'd taken photos of the perfect food she put the phone down on me . I have never in my life had anything so bad please please beware don't eat here totally disgusting and when you dare to complain your a liar love to hear how many other people were totally dissapointed yesterday this wants stopping

My fiancé and I popped in here earlier for a bite to eat. We were greeted by friendly bar staff who I later found out to be the landlady. The food was fantastic, 10/10. Really nice traditional pub with a friendly atmosphere, we both felt looked after. Highly recommended.
