We were only up for a couple of nights but thankfully found this gorgeous gem of a place on the 2nd night. Really lovely traditional pub grub, perfect with the children, service was super quick, ordered via app and lovely friendly lady served us. Couldn’t fault and really cannot wait to come back as this pub will definitely be our go to ❤️

Last Saturday evening, my partner and I popped into The Windmill in York for a few drinks. It turned out to be a good choice. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming – just what you want from a proper pub. We were served by Elliott, who was genuinely great. Efficient, friendly, and had a good attitude. It’s always a plus when you get served by someone who clearly enjoys their job. The drinks were very reasonably priced, which is always a bonus these days. No complaints there. Overall, it was a pleasant, straightforward pub experience. If you’re after a laid-back pub in York with good service, The Windmill is worth a visit.

Nice, friendly atmosphere, waiters and waitresses were great. Food was what you'd expect from typical pub grub. Can't really fault it!

Great food, staff, and atmosphere

3 of us had an early evening meal and some drinks. Decent food, fairly quick service even though the pub was quite busy. Not fancy at all, but a bit better than a Wetherspoons

Expensive..Had their fish and chips, perfectly OK, nothing special, but identical to the Wetherspoons opposite except (with a beer £19.09) instead of £9.97 at Wetherspoons! In response to the Windmill's reply asking what could be done to justify charging twice as much as the pub next door (The Punch Bowl) for virtually identical ambiance, beer, food & service. Other than price match how about larger portions, include a desert or coffee?

Right although my trip has been cut short i have to give the windmill a special mention tried thier beer and tapas plate! Did the trick!! I missed pudding but Don't! Miss this pub!! Bar staff really nice guys give this a pub your custom if in town !

I am disabled person with sight lo and I was very happy with the service more to friendly char to and they couldn't do enough for me so happy more than words can remmond who disabled people they are great service

We always enjoy our meal at The Windmill and the guy who brought our meal was very friendly.

Lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and prices were great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for good quality, classic pub grub in a warm and friendly setting. Will be coming back soon.

I have previously given a 5 star review for the windmill obviously on a Sunday it totally breaks down...came for Sunday dinner no cauliflower cheese on the plate the beef was tough stuffing must have been sat in a warmer for hours staff didn't care poor service

Last year we had some terrible experiences trying to watch 6 Nations rugby in Greene King pubs in York Edinburgh and Manchester where we booked tables and arrived to be told that football was taking priority (there were 6 Nations ads everywhere) . Naturally I complained. Today at the Windmill Inn York things couldn’t have been better. The staff were very friendly and helpful and set aside a TV for us to watch our rugby match separately from football on other screens. So we stayed and enjoyed some good food and drinks (not the result though, Sale Sharks lost)

came here last night for evening meal was lovely atmosphere great lasagna reasonable price so decided to have breakfast ...once again great meal and price ...staff attentive and friendly

Drinks were fabulous but expensive. The chicken and ham pie meal was delicious The waiter was very good at his job But I couldn’t fit the dessert in

Good variety of Tasty foods at at adescent prices! Sky sports available, beautiful inside very cosy and pet friendly dishes. Staff were very welcomeing and provided pleasant service. Thanks to all of you especially Ellie.

Good pub for tourists to try a great pie. The menu is limited however and to international for tourists to get an authentic local experience, however they have a good selection of ales and IPAs to try. Tables were a little dirty.

Brilliant Christmas Day atmosphere, pool table was still available for use which was brilliant! Daryl helped guide us around the bar to be served and everyone looked to be very busy on the day. Will definitely return on a normal day!

We had the festive menus and the Turkey was not great. Processed meat full of water. It was a shame as the waiter/barman could not have been more attentive!

Stop before go to Edinburgh. The place is spacious, comfortable. The fried chicken wings are very tasty.

The Windmill lnn is a large spacious traditional street corner pub close to the historic city walls. There is a wide range of beers, lager and cider, including four hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask ales i tried were in excellent condition. There is an outside seating area at the back of the pub, and there is a dart board and pool table in the bar. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I haven't tried the food, so i can't comment, but it is a popular place to eat. A great dog friendly real ale pub highly recommended.

Friendly staff and good food which was brought out without any delays and was hot. Prices were reasonable as well. We've eaten there plenty of times without any problems or issues. Will be returning next time we're in York.

Love this place, go in all the time. Staff are fun and friendly, food is nice, loads of screens for the sports, pool table and darts too. The kids enjoy it also and to top it off the prices aren't bad....especially if you have the greene king sport app which gives you a QR code to scan at the bar for discounted drinks.

We came yesterday for lunch and when it arrived the cauliflower was hard and the broccoli was stone cold. We complained but was offered a desert. Nothing said about replacing the lunch with a hot one.very disappointed.

Friendly staff and absolutely delicious burgers. Five minutes walk from York railway station and next to a premier inn. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately lots of menu choices unavailable. Sunday roast, fish and chips, beef and Ale pie, chicken pie and scampi and chips all off the menu. It meant the vegetarian member of our party had very little choice. Food, when it came out, was reasonable and staff were friendly.

Harldy anone in the pub and it still took a while to get served, however they are very nice bar staff and put the football on for us.

On race day, there was not much service, only two servers behind the bar. Was also told at 11.55, we could only order bacon butties but at 12.05, staff were bringing out steaks and chips for other customers. If only one of the two staff members told us to wait. The pub itself is decent with a good choice of drink.

Ordered breakfast at 11:30 and tried ordering chicken from the all day menu . Chef shouting all day menu starts at 12 . Staff didn't want to argue with him . Fairly long wait as it had become busy . Otherwise decent food and drinks .

Popped in for lunch after arriving in York on the train. Quick, friendly service. My husband had the veggie mushroom chilli - was wonderfully spicy as chilli should be. I had the honeyed halloumi on flatbread. Chef wasn't shy with the halloumi- absolutely gorgeous. Both meals perfect with a pint of IPA.

Very good service. when there was an issue with the app they still managed to fulfil my order with no trouble at all and made sure I was aware of the problem asap. Big fan of the IPA Hot Sauce

Had a cheap quick tea after school. Was lovely and not to busy at that time. People were starting to arrive for after work drinks as we left but the atmosphere was still calm.

Me and my girlfriend came in for lunch and got recommended the burger of the month by Siobhan and it was sublime. She also let us know that carling was on offer which was amazing, overall a very pleasant experience with a kind and talkative bar woman, would recommend to anyone in York

The food was great! Had the bacon blue cheese burger and it was stellar. In addition to food and drinks, they also have pool and darts! So it was an incredibly fun and satisfying experience! We left laughing and happy. The staff was fantastic!!!

Wonderful place for my daughter and myself this evening. We're only here for a few days and decided to call on our way back to the hotel. It's a lovely presented little pub with a great atmosphere. The food we had was lovely, served quickly by a lovely young man. The deserts were to die for. (God help my diet! 🙈. Highly recommend 👌

Great greene king with a good selection of food and beer on show.

Just another chain pub where the staff couldn't give a monkeys about the customers. They stuck the prices up on Saturday because it was a raceday. This is an absolute disgrace. Why should regular customers be penalised just because it's a raceday? £11.05 for a pint of Guinness and a pint of Carling. What a complete rip off. They don't put prices up to pay for extra staff. They put prices up, because they want to extract as much money from people as possible. It's not my local pub, but I do pop in now and again. I won't be back.

Took the family here pre cinema for some lunch. Large food choice, relaxed atmosphere and good, honest food. Very well priced also so would recommend

Great location next to station. We ordered the loaded fries buffalo and katsu they were delicious and filling. The kids make your own tacos were super and so fun for kids the bacon cheese burger brought a smile to my other daughter. A Fabulous feed for the family before our 5 hrs train trip home......the kids asking can we come back again. Service was great and the member of staff who served our food was super welcoming. 👌

Horrendous service. Booked a table to watch one of the euro 2024 games, asking for a table where we can see the game. This pub heavily advertised the euro 2024 games and called itself as a sports pub. On the day they were terribly understaffed and the only person serving honestly couldn't even be asked to put on the game. After asking 2 times and after the first 5 minutes of the game have already passed, he put on the game but we had to ask one more time for him to remember to put on the sound 😂 Overall one of the worst places in York

Had a steak dinner. A lovely pint too. It's massive with plenty of seating. Bar staff friendly. And the food was great. Recommend going.

Looks very good and actually is very good until you come to the details like playing pool where you need a 5 quid cash deposit (who carries cash these days) plus 1.50 to play and then out drinks were literally removed from us at 1115 because it was 'his licence' if he didn't. Really took the edge off what was otherwise a nice evening

Great place for food and atmosphere for football and drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive. Happy to switch over channels and check with tables if everyone was happy with it. I had 2 small plates,chicken and corn bites and they were ok and when turned up it was hot.
