Caffe Nero in York

Girls working in here are vibing, dancing and singing while serving. All the customers were smiling. Great coffee too. Best Nero I’ve been to.

What lovely staff. Such a lovely greeting to everyone. Made sure the place is kept clean. Kept on eye on seating upstairs and told customers before they ordered if there was seating available. The three working at 1pm on 26.09.24 where so lovely. Only there for an orange juice and toastie but thank you for making it an enjoyable experience.

Staff very friendly and helpful, for example opening door, carrying drink to table.

Not your regular Caffè Nero! Barista are very welcoming and very energetic! Friendly, joking & smiling! They are a pleasure to order with. The coffee is good, cakes are good! Just one pointer, they need to clean the bar. The coffee machine looks like it had a few hundred shots and they don’t have time to clean it. 2 persons and hell of a busy. Level 2 is amazingly well decorated. Very warm and well set up. Nice place to take a break after all the walking.

Filthy, cramped, two members of staff for midweek school holidays. Upstairs windows weren't open, full of condensation, frames filthy with mildew and streaks of dirt. Sink in the toilet was disgusting, gunk around the taps. Furniture shoddy not shabby. I felt very sorry for the two very young members of staff who didn't even have time to clear any tables.... A disgrace for a coffee chain

We had a choc and hazelnut frappe which cost me £9,50 for two and were tasteless , weak , too much ice in them.the place was dirty, trays left on table.noone cleared ours before we sat down.two women behind the counter arguing over how to make our frappes.would like my money back please.

This has to be the worst run cafe I have have been in - there are so many empty cups and trays it is ridiculous- the place was not busy yet every table had used cups and trays on it - even the counter where you ordered had 5 trays with used cups on it ! You could not make it up - but you can avoid it - there are lots better in York - don’t waste your money here

Staff were too busy chatting to even acknowledge us so we left. Not a welcoming atmosphere and not very clean.

Great coffee here as you would expect in a Nero! Wait was short, coffee very good, didn't eat this time but on past experience was very good! Only issue is not many seats! But if you hover upstairs a little someone will depart! So not the largest of places but adequate been here many times and will be going back!

Went in for a coffee and bite to eat on a Friday afternoon. They had ran out of clean plates and asked if we'd have our 3 toasted sandwiches on two plates as they hadn't had time to wash up. I said no these are for 3 people so we need 3 plates. I was offered a saucer and the guy cut the toasted sandwich to fit the saucer. Behind the counter was untidy and dirty dishes piled high, service was very slow but the guy was working on his own. We won't return to this cafe Nero.

Large hot chocolate rather bland; most seats upstairs and no disabled access to downstairs toilets.

Great place to sit and chill for a bit! I got a hot chocolate and a cake and sat upstairs and it was so nice to get away from the busy streets of York and just to sit and chill somewhere nice and quiet was great. Also they are dog friendly so that's a plus!

This was disappointing. The whole place was dirty and grotty. Bits of dried food mashed into the fabric of the chairs, tables hadn't been wiped for ages and dirty toilets. Not a pleasant experience.

The staff made our little pug Bella very welcome. It's great that Caffe Nero allows dogs. We were able to escape a very cold day today, enjoy yummy coffee, and relax with Bella between lunch and shopping. Many thanks - we'll back. Five woofs from Bella! 😁 🐾🐾

Fairly long queue, otherwise excellent.

Good as far as a coffee shop goes, but nothing to get excited about.

Needing a bite to eat before the theatre. But not much time we went into cafe Nero to have a toastie. Too be told oh we have already turned our toaster off. Asking what time they closed they said oh not for another hour but nobody has been in! Not very impressed that they are shutting things down when they still have over an hour of selling time to go. Very disappointed.

Rude staff. Don't even welcome you in arrival, just let you know they are shutting in an hour. Cafe busy but upstairs closed for some reason. Avoid.

We've been visiting York for a few days and normally visit a few different coffee shops. However, the staff at this particular Caffè Nero have been so exceptionally lovely, friendly, kind and helpful that we just kept going back to them. Efficient, too, which was great given that they were clearly busy. We like Caffè Nero drinks (and food), but of course that's a matter of preference. I will add that they were very nicely made, though. Plus, the seating areas, especially upstairs, are very comfortable and nice to be in. Really, the highest praise to everyone there, and many thanks for making our visits so enjoyable - thank you.

Servics was excellent. Great baristas and coff the best of the chains. However, upstairs seating area is filthy. Open top bins, stckt matted, and ripped seats. Mangers must do better.

It was really cold had to ask for air con to be lowered. Staff seemed to be having an issue. Their time would time would time would have been better spent cleaning the toilets. Not up to standard

Mice little coffee shop with an academic style seating area upstairs. Good presentation and taste on the hot chocolate,would recommend for a nice catchup spot.

Coffees were luke warm, and batista got the order wrong. Cups were also not clean. Service at Nero's has deteriorated massively post pandemic.

We stopped by late afternoon during the weekend, and whilst I normally rank Cafe Nero as one of the better choices for coffee shops, this particular chain had seen better days. The staff were very friendly and polite but were severely understaffed on the day, which meant rubbish was piling up around the store and unattended drinks had spilt onto tables. Hard to blame the staff for this when they have been left short on team members and were busy serving but makes you question what support is in place in scenarios like this. Couple this with the fact that parts of the store itself were in a general state of disrepair (toilet doors broken, rusted and worn down taps) and it just left me feeling sorry for the staff and keen to drink up and move on. Again, I can't fault the staff on this one, but it does make me think about what support they have when staffing problems arise.

Really nice and a great alternative to Betty's which was rammed with tourists

Disappointed that this was not as good as other Neros that we've visited. This one had no vegan cakes left. It was only around 4.30pm so not like it was close to closing.

Visited Nero in Designer Outlet and it is definitely the best one in York clean and staff very friendly

Coffee is great, typical Nero quality. Unfortunately every time I come I feel I am inconveniencing the staff by ordering. I understand it's a busy place but maybe work on being a little friendlier.

Nice titchy Nero. Watch your head when you go to the toilets in the basement. People a few hundred years ago were a lot shorter!!!

Quiet place to sit, drink coffee, study, work.

It does still have they qualities of the they Cafe Nero that I do not know what Year it opened too this day it is not a Cafe I often go in.

Are you reading this Caffe Nero HQ? I do hope so. Question. Why do you fail your staff? You have a problem, you don't care about the little people enough. Your area manager for this location has made this very clear. I send you an email telling you how amazing the staff are. I name names and ask you to reward them as you claim you do. I get a cheerful message saying absolutely we will pass this on and make sure they are recognised. Did you? No. I follow up, you say oh we told the area manager, will forward again. Did they praise? No. In fact it seems like this individual never passes on praise, rather only contacts when they complain. I have become very friendly with many staff here, past and present. I'm told of a company that doesn't care about its staff or about what it's customers say. Well I'm here to give you a wake up call. Your baristas are Nero. Without them, you have no business, no profits and no future. I enjoy your coffee, but I enjoy chatting to your staff more. Do better. Be different. Don't ignore your customers comments and most of all, treasure those who make you what you are. 5 stars for the staff in Davygate. 0 stars for Nero management. So 3 stars overall.

This place was clean, the man serving us was very nice and talkative and the drinks were also very good quality. The place was clean and quiet, it would be a good place to come and do a bit of reading or studying with your coffee.

Was having a very stressful morning with my kid and desperately needed a coffee and i would like to massively thank the guy that served us, didn't get his name but he had a small beard and glasses and he was incredibly patient and helped me out with my kid and even brought her another babycinno when he overheard her asking great customer service he definitely deserves recognition

Believe the photo shows this to be the Nero's in Harrogate. Just had standard Tom & Mozzarella panini ( could be crisper) and coffee. However lucky to get window seat with great large curved windows giving pleasant view. Enjoyable. Sun beaming throughout lunch which was lucky for siting having lunch but not later because bucketed down hour after we left and got caught in. This a short break visit but surprised how many Nero's there are around York area.

Just had a coffee which was good, and the service was lovely, but I felt the place was a bit grubby and needed a good clean.

Coffee's great and upstairs is relaxing with a good choice of books to read.

I love the quality of coffee here. I believe it is far better than many other well-known High Street coffee shops. I only ever go to Cafe Nero. Their decaffeinated coffee is the best in comparison to other high street will know coffee shops. I only ever go for coffee, so I can not comment on food, etc.

Very busy and some of the staff were trainees but they coped wonderfully. We got exactly what we wanted. Update. 20th Jan 2023. Another visit, usual good choice of food and excellent coffee. But, can't understand why so many young people are allowed to take up tables when they are clearly not eating or drinking but are using their laptops. We only got a table because someone was just leaving. 1 young man next to us sat on his own on a table for 4 and wouldn't let a lady sit at the table because he was waiting for his girlfriend who never showed up. Is it an office or coffee house?

Lovely! Good location, lovely staff and it was all great.

Used to be 5 star, now it's 3. Nowadays it's just a bit grubby. Upstairs used to be relaxing, now it's like being at work, laptops clicking away and loud business phonecalls all around you. Dreadful.

Painfully slow service, clearly understaffed and the staff have zero urgency in what they’re doing going as slow as humanly possible. The place is an absolute state, looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. The espresso shot glasses they were using to serve everyone’s drinks looked disgusting. Filthy place and over 30 minute wait with only 5 people in front of me in the queue.

The first time I came into this neros, I loved it. Staff were so pleasant and the cafe was clean. Can’t complain. Today I fancied a bite to eat from here and I’m sorry but the standards have gone down massively. Not trying to judge too much as they might be having staffing problems or something but the entire cafe just looks dirty and unattended to. The state of the toilets is unacceptable-Womens toilets not available as door handle has broken,there is a really foul odour and not a typical toilet one, the floor is filthy, toilet roll not available in holder it’s just thrown on the back of the toilet ,toilet is filthy, sink isn’t clean, and hand dryer doesn’t work. After using the toilet much to my dismay I left asap without even ordering anything I was so grossed out. Hope they can sort this out :/

You wouldnt come to me at the service area, after hearing it was urgent you shouted across you were not dealing with toilets and despite my public health warning and urgency you said it's not your problem. I'm disgusted by your attitude. In the service sector it is unfortunate that we have to attend to all jobs and wear various hats, but it is true. Your appauling customer service, not having respect for what a customer was saying and then your not my problem kind of attitude begs me to question why are you working there? You are a disgrace to your hard working team members. Thank you to your wonderful colleague who was the young man in his coat and on his break who heard the latter half of this conversation and explained that the manager had left and thank you for actually listening to the information which was all which was needed in the first place. I appreciate you 💜 To the manager- speak to the team working on friday 16th around 1pm and congratulate them on being so wonderful - you should be proud 👏💜 From my retail management experience, you need to go down the disciplinary route with the staff member I have concern with above and give mandatory training before she's allowed to deal with customers again. I think you should assess those toilets before public health England are involved, and explain the seriousness of this and potential closure of the shop to your staff with it being a food premises. Also a Warning sign that there is no cleaner and some cleaning products on the shelf might have helped.

Lovely setting in the old midland bank building. Staff friendly and atmosphere is more sophisticated than other brands... just a little cold to sit for too long in December.

Probably one of the dirtiest coffee shops I've been in. Understaffed, on the counter, coffee machine, behind the counter, toilets all grubby. The only place we could get in on a busy saturday

I popped in for a coffee. I had to wait while the staff unhurriedly served those in the queue. When I got my coffee it wasn't what I asked for and, like others, why was it filled to overflowing making it virtually impossible to carry without spilling?

If you are happy to wait for 45 minutes in a small que whilst the staff plod along at their own snail like pace then your in for a treat. The drinks are good, hot chocolates are amazing. But the slow service is infuriating.

Service was slower than slow. Lots of staff but only one seemed to be serving the long queue. Their Christmas cinnamon latte was not great. Avoid. Seating area upstairs was OK but full of condensation.

We had toasties and drinks and they where lovely and hot. However, the customer service was not the best. The drinks took a long time to be made and the lady making our drinks was constantly on her phone and she was very distracted.

What a gorgeous hot chocolate I had this afternoon, and black forest gateau mmmmmm.

Came in with my partner again while we visit because the first time we came it was amazing! This time the staff were rude and short with us, the whole building looked gross and seems to be no care from any staff about the quality of the environment. Disappointed because the first time we visited was amazing. Toilets are definitely still a no go zone.

Came here early morning with my partner, staff on shift were lovely and welcoming. Ordered americano & latte with a few extras from the front. Coffee presented wonderfully and again lovely staff especially for an early morning! Only downside to the place was the toilets but nothing that can’t be fixed

Cafe Nero. Don't know what's happening at Cafe Nero lately but all the Nero coffee shops are serving weaker coffee compared to what it used to be. Please go back to the way it was or is it cutbacks?????? Alternatively go to Starbucks theirs has remained the same as always 😋

Called today for 2 lattes, and two cakes. Two girls serving and one young man. Only one girl served while tables remained cluttered, even window sills were piled with cups and plates. Other dark haired girl with glasses and young man with long hair, messed around, joked and sniggered about customers and did nothing. We left after 40 mins and the 2 last members of staff still hadn’t served anyone nor cleaned a table. Terrible experience. Sort it out!
