Our family held the wake for our late Uncle at the hotel, and the staff really couldn’t have done more to help us and to make sure that we had everything we needed-the service was outstanding from absolutely everyone. The buffet was also lovely-and beautifully presented. We’d like to thank everyone at the hotel so much.

Whilst it's called a Hotel, this is a lovely pub - in a brilliant location close to the Gardens but just the slightest bit out of the way enough to be not completely overrun. Really lovely and spacious inside, wheelchair-accessible and buggy-friendly. The staff are just so kind and welcoming and the food is really reliably tasty and great. Love coming here, always know we'll have a good-feel time.

Really characteristic hotel with excellent value for money. Location: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Located a 5-minute walk from Kew Gardens, this hotel is located in a residential area considered luxury and extremely characteristic. About 200 meters away there is a Tesco minimarket and the tube station, from which you can take the District line and arrive in central London in about 20 minutes. The hotel is very characteristic, the entrance is on the side street (the main one is only for the restaurant) and in general it fully reflects the idea of a British hotel that one imagines. The room was very nice (we had room 21), in the attic, with carpet and private bathroom (obviously without bidet). In the room there was a hairdryer, kettle, cups, teaspoons and tea bags, sugar, herbal teas, single-portion milk and TV. Service: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 We were treated very well both at check-in and during our stay. Very courteous at the bar and quick. Not much to say, excellent! Price: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What to say? I think in Greater London it's difficult to stay under £100/night without resorting to hostels or dorms, yet here we paid around £90 and had a great time, with a room (for two people) with private bathroom. All twenty minutes from the center. Excellent, excellent, excellent! Restaurant: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Small, but very characteristic. The menu is quite rich, obviously typical, with prices appropriate to Greater London (that is, absurdly inflated prices!). If you don't like English cuisine, you might struggle to find some dishes that are right for you. Breakfast: 🌟🌟🌟 Premise: not all hotels necessarily have to offer a continental breakfast, so not offering it is certainly not a negative side. However, even if it is a typically London hotel, I believe that providing something sweet for breakfast, to please not only Europeans, but in general anyone who does not like savory foods, would be desirable. Although the "Full English Breakfast" satisfied me (breakfast, among other things, was included in the price of the room), eating salty food was torture for me. I would have loved some croissants, donuts or something like that. In any case, there were some jams on the table and free buffet of milk, coffee, tea and fruit juices.

Had a lovely long lunch here prior to visiting the lights at Kew. Hadn't been before but booked a table and asked for a 'cosy corner' in the bar. Staff had indeed got us a cosy corner in the bar however suggested a much nicer cosy corner in the restaurant, which was perfect. A great level of service from all the staff. great food, good wines and excellent recommendations as well as allowing us to try the wine. Genuinely hospitality at its finest and not only we will be back but i have already been recommending it to people. If I lived closer, it would certainly become my local.

Just returned from taking some friends here for supper as we live locally. We all agreed that the food was really bad. I ordered a hamburger which was the worst I have ever eaten. It was so thin, so over cooked that you couldnt cut it, and old piece of lettuce, 1 slice of tomato, a slice of a gherkin, some fries all for £16.50, never to be repeated. No wonder there were so few people there. Plus 3 of the items on the menu were not available, rack of lamb, pork chop and a buffalo mozzarella starter. Would not recommend the Kew Gardens hotel to eat in.

This is probably the best hotel I’ve stayed in. No it’s not on a sandy beach with an idyllic sea sprawled out in front of you, but it’s set in a lovely part of the world, a 5 minute walk from beautiful Kew Gardens, and from the outside, it looks like a lovely pub. You look in through the windows to see people congregating, over a quiet cheeky beverage and looks very welcoming. You then go inside to the reception and are welcomed by lovely warm staff, who are so very helpful. Around 20 rooms inside, with our room being at the very top (no lifts). Decor is lovely, and very clean. The room was awesome. Lovely warm and making you wish you’d booked more than one night. You can see the quality of the place from the decor in the bedroom, into the lovely bathroom right down to the tea bags and biscuits supplied! You could go out for a meal. But once you’ve tasted their fantastic food cooked to perfection, and very reasonably priced with discount for people staying in the hotel, why would you go out to eat??? The bed was a little hard but that’s the only thing I could mention as a negative. Breakfast reaffirmed the quality of the food, which is freshly cooked to order rather than cooked en masse, and left warm until it’s eventually eaten or thrown, with staff also amazingly lovely. So yes, there are bigger hotels. Yes there are amazing venues. But honestly, pound for pound, this place is up there with the best.

We had family over visiting for a few days and we were really enjoying showing them the sights of the area as well as enjoying some great meals together. It was so disapointing then when we decided on here to eat after a great night at the light display in Kew Gardens. Firstly i have to say that they were packed out when we arrived. We got the last table. We then sat for over 20 minutes before anyone came to us for even a drink order. We could plainly see 2 waiters literally jogging between tables to keep up. We could also see 3 other staff members doing very little. What we didnt see was a bar manager who may have balanced the 2 out. Finally we ordered. Drinks were a little slow. The food was very slow. What made matters worse was that for about 10 minutes we could see our burgers waiting under hot lamps waiting for staff to bring them over. When they did arrive the top of the buns were ruined and the burgers inside were cold. The funny thing here is that we all agreed we had to eat as to send them back would have meant us overlapping with the breakfast order the following morning. The food overall was average quality at best. The vegetarian tart was very poor. Our issues were mentioned at thd end of the meal to staff and a burger was taken off the bill but to be honest if they had given us the meal free, paid for our taxi home and slipped a hundred quid in my pocket on the way out it still wouldnt have compensated for the ruined family meal. Not recommended.

This pub, or as they call it, a hotel, has been my local for a long time. Currently the staff have been trained to look after the tourist and not the locals. Seems a bit bizarre considering when the tourists aren't here the locals will always be and that's where their income will come from. Moreover when somebody asks another person to stop their dog from barking, they 'bar' the person for asking, threatening them with all sorts of malarkey, including with calling the police. Very odd! I have been coming here for a few years now and first off it has to be said that this is a wonderful venue in the very large, old pub style. Looks great from the outside and just as good inside with plenty of space, good furniture and a pleasant atmosphere. However, the food is definitely not as good as it was when I first started coming here. And sometimes without warning, no food at all. Although, admittedly it doesn't happen often but for a pub like this, there would have to be a lot of kitchen staff off sick before they consider cancelling the food option.I came here the other night to see some music that a friend had told me about, and it seems that there was some initial confusion as they had forgotten about the music and had planned a pub quiz. Given that the venue had apparently been pre - booked for music, for some considerable time, somone was going to be disappointed and I guess the quizzers were not happy. Perhaps the first question for the next quiz should be, 'Does anyone know what's in our diary?' Because they obviously don't. Furthermore, members of the band were repeatedly asking that the piped music be turned off when they were playing. Hardly shows a grasp of the live music context, does it?I think that most of the positive reviews of this establishment are fair, but in these challenging times, when high standards are demanded of those that charge for a service, they should be upping their game not dropping the ball. Here's hoping that they can get back on track and that this venue will remain on my list of good pubs in an age where they are fast disappearing.

If listening to music the bar food was great, fresh and plentiful and there was a great atmosphere. The actual resturant served excellent food so we often took guests there too for an evening out. On 2 occasions we went for music and food, to find no food being served despite checking first. My experience this week was so awful there is no longer the benefit of doubt. I work far too hard for my money to spend any of it here. The staff have been, surly, unhelpful and unprofessional. The food standard has plummeted suffering an interminatable wait this week.Over a very short time this venue has gone from great to absolute pants.I can pinpoint the start of the decline to the time of refurbishment.

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience at the Kew Garden Hotel. We had booked a table for lunch for 4 adults and a baby. When we arrived it took them a long time to sort out our table. When we ordered two of us ordered the chateaubriand steak with dauphinoise potatoes. We were very much looking forward to it. We waited for almost an hour for our food (with a small child!). After about 30 minutes when we asked about it, we were pretty much brushed off "it will be here soon" When it did arrive, they forgot to bring plates out for the two of us having the chateaubriand. I asked for some and was brought side plates. When he went back to get some he was moving so slowly I ended up having to get up and go and chase them up. The steak was nice. The potatoes were for one person not the supposed two. When we explained that we weren't happy, the waiter came over and told us that the manager would not charge us service! And we could have a round of coffees. Two of us didn't want coffee so asked for dessert, expecting that they might comp that as well. Overall the experience was extremely disappointing. Where could they have improved:1. Been more aware of their customers2. thought about what their customer would need (plates!)3. had the manager come over4. Realise that comping the service is not appropriate - we weren't going to pay for service that had been that bad.

A little research shows that they have not been seeking to prevent medium burgers, but only rare or medium rare in the absence of specific procedures. Who wants to pay £12.50 for dried out burgers?Ordered steak sandwich instead. Ok, but wife preferred her Wetherspoon one. Ordered "triple cooked" chips on the side. They came as average to undercooked chips. Manager later explained that Cook had supplied them as for burger (undercooked chips with over cooked burger, a great combination!), instead of the triple cooked side order.Went to pay. Chips had been deleted. But £2.15 for "soda water and lime", though as requested only soda had been supplied. When I protested, I was told that this too was company policy. When summoned again, the manager said this did not apply if soda only. So this was also removed from bill.I left and realised that I only had credit card receipts for cancelled transactions. So I phoned to report this, leaving a message. No follow up call from them. Phoned again nearly 24 hours later: "yes, we noticed and put it through as a telephone order. You will see it on your next bill."Ambience quite good, and good range of real ales. But they will not be seeing us again.

The decor is wonderful; well-thought through and quirky enough to be interesting, but not fussy. The food was wonderful too and exactly what we wanted on a Friday evening after a long drive. Our party included my twelve year old son, his granddad (a gourmand) and my partner (also a bon vivant) and we all loved the menu, the surroundings, atmosphere and most importantly the food and service. I have special dietary needs and these were met tastefully and interestingly. My father's seafood starter was amazing. The lamb was to die for and cooked to perfection. We had the most splendid evening and will certainly make a return visit.

Loved the interior design in this place, food was excellent too. Charcuterie platter board to share for starters (meat was good quality but importantly sliced very well), I had smoked white bean puree and roasted fennel (really really delicious) and my girlfriend had a caramelised onion and goat cheese tart (pastry was a little dry but flavours were great (although completely as you'd expect). Too full for dessert! We had a nice refreshing shandy and one of the best ales (served in the right glass!) that I've ever had, which the waitress was very helpful in recommending. Please bear in mind that although it was a sunny weekend, service was very quick for us as the place was mostly empty. Price seemed reasonable (all of the above for just over £40)

We live close to Kew and decided to try it for Dinner one evening. We booked in advance - an important point as you'll see.First impressions as you arrive are good. The pub element has been refurbished - and its a decent job. They have a few nice touches - such as old teacups with candles lit in the tables. There are not many pubs which do that ! In addition they do an interesting line of real beer's in the old fashioned dimpled beer glasses ! Been a while since I had a pint in one of those !!We went through for Dinner and the dining area is large - possibly bigger than the Pub out-front. The welcome was friendly and we confirmed our booking before being sat down. Our table - in common with a lot of the furniture - is clearly old tables & chairs from another era - being that dark brown wood with that sort of 1930's feel. However there's nothing wrong with that and gave it a certain charm - they are adept at dealing with the "wobbly table" effect which often goes with it.After this promising start - things started to go a bit wrong:1 It took an age to get served. We also noticed other folks who arrived were served their mains long before we were. Perhaps the dining room was 80% full. When we eventually asked I was told that the "Kitchen was very, very busy". You don't say2 When it was served the abiding impression was of it being thrown on the plate in a rather hurried manner. The careful presentation 20 minutes before of the neighbouring table's same dish was better/different to mine.3 Its expensive. I've lived in the neighbourhood for years - so know that nothing is cheap in Kew/Richmond - yet for both drinks and food I though the prices were high for a Gastro Pub. Clearly you're paying for the renovation costs.4 We were sat in the Conservatory area. The Conservatory doors appears to be used as a shortcut for the smokers into the Beer Garden. On a blustery night you'll feel the effect of this practice for sure and I saw one lady ask for the door to be locked [ which was then done ] but it still did not stop folks trying it.5 Finally we never bothered with dessert and went home for a nightcap. When I got home there was a message on my mobile from KGH telling me if I didn't show they'd give my table away ! We were actually 15 minutes early and I saw the waitress look at our name & table on the screen and our table was marked "reserved"The last point around phoning me to see why we weren't there says it all - a lack of control/grip on not even a full house. As you read other TA reviews the same theme comes across I was really looking forward to this trip but it will not return.

We had liaised extensively with their events organiser who was invaluable on the day making sure everything went to plan and went the extra mile helping to prepare the restaurant even putting our cake together (thank-you!). They were very amenable to our ideas and requests and overall created a great atmosphere. The food was good and brought out punctually. We live very close to Inn at Kew Gardens. Like ladyneil we did eat there until just over a year ago. This was our first visit since the much vaunted refurbishment. It was dire. We took friends for lunch. There were 6 of us one of whom was a 12 year old girl. 3 salt beef sandwiches which would have been sent back by any of our American friends with the question "what is this? Certainly isn't salt beef as I know it and why is it only a 1/4 portion?", 2 side orders of chips, 1 fish share platter (between 2 and somewhat mean), 1 burger and chips, 1 chicken liver pate. 2 glasses of white wine, 2 pints of beer and 3 soft drinks. The cost? £108, yes £108. Service iffy, food indifferent and very small portion sizes. I asked for some mayo and was presented with about a small dessertspoonful in a tiny dish. We had to ask for bread with our fish platter and we got 2 slices of dryish brown bread quartered. We then asked for some butter which came in such a small portion that it hadn't been worth wasting our breath. Oh and they only serve burgers well done, that is not the mark of any decent catering establishment. Service was not exactly great, iffy & slow and they were not busy. I worked for many years in the hotel & catering industry so I do know about saying please and thank you to staff because it means a lot, sadly I wouldn't bother at KGH. The only good thing to say was my husband and 1 guest thought the range of beers excellent and well kept.

Live locally, my husband and I have been regularly dinning at the inn for many years until 1 year ago, visiting for food and drinks once a week, and making large booking for family birthday dinners, Christmas etc. We have fond memories there until recently. The service there is extremely poor....I don't think I have ever seen the manager welcome anyone or us. She has very cold and depressing energy about her, and I think it rubs off on the staff, and the whole atmosphere of the business. Prices on the restaurant and pub menu have increased since the refurbishment but the service and experience has drop significantly over the past 1year. We now dine else where...my advise to that business is look at running of other local pubs and restaurants to see how it's done. The cricketers on Kew green set an excellent example, well worth visiting...take a leaf out of their book Kew Gardens Hotel.

We went to the renovated Inn @ Kew Gardens on Sunday eve. The hostess was quite impolite; but when we ordered drinks and food at the bar, we were said the main course will take around 20 min and the starter will be a bit faster. Well, we got our starter after 40 min waiting (even though people who came later got their burger quicker); then it was 20 min waiting to clean up the plates, and another 40 min waiting for a main course (which was sunday roast, so should have been quite fast).Food quality is good, service very slow - so unless you are ready to wait, try other pubs in Kew and Richmond.

Our table was right next to an open fire which was blazing away it soon made us forget how cold we had got.The service was excellent, attentive but not in your face.Great choice of meals which were explained in detail and a very good wine list .Atmosphere was very pleasant with nice background music playing not the loud chart songs. There was an outside eating area which was screened by lots of greenery, looked really chic. Will go back to sit out there and eat alfresco.

The service here all depends on the mood the staff are in on the day. Sometimes they smile ,on other occasions they seem a little crestfallen and at times disconcertingly aloof! The so called 'famous' burger varies in size depending on how much the chef has cooked it .I recently received one that had the appearance of being 'nuked' despite asking for it to be cooked medium . The chips are ok but not that crispy !The roasts are not bad ,but like the chips the roast potatoes could do with being more crispy and a great deal lighter! The specials vary but you do get the occasional gem , but if you dare ask for a slight variation you generally told 'chef' is not prepared to customise . Perhaps he is subscribing to the 'temperamental' aspiring celeb chef cliché (yawn!)However the vibe is often good and when the staff are on form they can be fun . There are two barmaids that are are generally delightful and make up for their more 'slightly superior' colleagues The mussels are rather good, as are all the seafood dishes . The other day I took a friend of mine for the fish and chips and I have to say, the fish was really marvellous . My thoughts on the chips are documented earlier in this review. The décor is good and they do have good wines so some good things happening here.I will try the roast again this week as the meat is very good . I hope to catch the 'interesting' roster staff in good spirit . It could be the making of this capricious establishment. Fingers crossed !

I give The Inn credit for consistency. I come here regularly, sometimes several times a week sometimes only fortnightly and the experience is always the same. The food is excellent, the atmosphere congenial and the service is woeful - friendly but slow and I sometimes wonder if the staff know what they're doing. Having said that if you come for a light snack meal or just for a drink, its fine. But if you order something more substantial or dine in the dining room, be prepared for slow service. The food is quality pub fare done well - I can't think of any meal I haven't enjoyed and regularly order the hamburger, steak sandwich and the newish warm club sandwich with bacon and avocado is also a favourite. If the service was improved I would give it 5 stars.

I guess it's my local. It's one of the nicest pubs in Kew (although there aren't that many to choose from), the food is really good pub food, they do a great burger; and there is a wide selection of beer and wine. If you want to take someone to a comfortable, nicely renovated British pub this is a great choice, they will be impressed by the decor, the ambiance and the food. Almost certainly they will be unimpressed by the service, and so I suspect will you. At best it is mediocre, and on a bad day it's much worse. The staff are young, given to flirting with each other, or chatting to their friends who tend to be sitting at the bar. Having said that, once they have finished looking at themselves in the mirror, and you get their attention they are normally very friendly.

To be honest, Kew Gardens does not have a great deal of pubs to chose from. The railway as you come out of kew or the Inn at Kew Gardens a five minute walk from Kew on the Sandycombe road. Any other pubs and your looking at a long walk or bike ride. Kew Inn is a pretty traditional looking pub, nice layout and plenty of seating. Someone has made a lot of effort to make it look good. What isn't traditional - the lack of a landlord or manager who gives a dam. Just hard to get served or get a friendly smile. The staff seem like they are on community service and have been forced to work behind a bar - perhaps mum or dad said got out and get a job or no more pocket money, who knows. So why a very good rating. Firstly, a decent pub for Kew (my first choice out of two slack pubs), and secondly, the food is pretty good. Right chef on the right night and you'll get a treat for pretty good value. When it comes to pubs in kew, beggars cannot be choosers. Give it a whirl.Best - fish and chips and some good beers.Worst - Service.

Visited The Inn at Kew Gardens for Sunday lunch with friends. Didn't start well, was asked to leave my debit card behind the bar in order to start a tab for drinks and food. Why can't they just take a swipe like everywhere else?Food ordered and arrived in good time, but the waiter was a bit too quick and spilt gravy over my friends clothes. apologies, but no offer of any recompense. A free drink would have done the trick. The food was okay but the beef was a bit tough and I've had much better for less, although this is in Kew so I guess that accounts for the price.Someone else took the piece of paper (otherwise known as "the tab") to the bar to pay, but there was no mention of my debit card which was still behind the bar - I then left without it and set about my not insignificant journey back to Derbyshire. With this system, I'm sure I'm not the first to do it.So, I called to see if the card was there, it was. I asked if they could send it back to me, and was asked how the postage would be paid. I firmly told them they could take it out of the tip we had left on top of the £100 we had spent in the establishment! Anyway they said they would send it. That was Sunday, today is Tuesday so I called to see if had been sent and as I expected it was still sitting behind the bar. A much more helpful chap promised to take it tp the post office straight away. I have my fingers crossed...I'll try one of the many other restaurants in the area next time.

We went to the Inn at Kew to use the Pub as we had seen advertisement for a cider and beer festival. We walked in after the Sunday lunchtime rush and there were 2 barstaff behind the bar. I say barstaff loosely as although both looked up and acknowledged our arrival, one was serving and rightly continued to do so but the other ignored us and continued to "straighten" the bottles/glasses on the shelf so their labels were facing the front. I can only presume that he was not qualified to serve (begs the question why was he behind the bar, do they really have a fuul-time label straightener!) I asked him, having seen a notice in the pub saying beer was available to be served in the Garden, if it was true that I could get served in the beer garden and he said "yes". We went to the beer Garden but this was patently "not" true. Although there were cider barrels outside there was no-one serving. We went back into the main bar and saw that there were now no barstaff behind the bar. We left and will not return, much better service to be had at the pubs around Kew Green!
