The Indulgent Baker in Reading

The quality of service is absolutely atrocious in this place. Service is slow for takeaway food. I won't be coming back again.

I have always tried to support local businesses but over the past few visits I have witnessed price increases but no increase in quality of service On my last visit a while ago I was disappointed with yet another price increase and below par service and considered not returning but was persuaded to give the shop another chance by family. Yet again there had been a price increase and the service this time was extremely poor. The assistant taking our order seemed disinterested and when we asked to not have a loaf sliced they proceeded to slice it. Also I had to check our coffee order was being done as the assistant serving us disappeared, then when the coffee arrived it was cold. By this time I was fed up so just finished my coffee and cake and left All in all this visit has cermented my opinion that service levels at Warings Bakery in Caversham has dropped very low but prices keep increasing I will not be returning and will advise anyone I know to not bother going there either

Caversham is lucky to have this fabulous bakery. Bread, rolls, cakes are the best. What’s missing is your best ever Chocolate Eclairs and Viennese cakes with the frosted cream and jam in. Hopefully we will see them soon. Staff are welcoming and helpful even when they are under pressure cooking bacon and sausages etc etc. Always recommend you to passers by. Thank you.

We arrived a bit late for lunch, having found our usual spot had sold out of all food. The bread, as you would expect, was excellent, and the filled meat baps were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you!

I have often looked in at the bakery and yesterday decided to venture in. The place was busy. The queue was almost out of the door at one point. I managed to get a window seat and within 10 minutes, the seating area was packed with people. The staff were helpful, friendly and washed their hands regularly, which was nice to see. Really nice atmosphere. The food was delicious and the coffee was great. I will definitely visit again and very likely again and again after that.

Visited yesterday, not knowing the area and just needing some lunch prior to a meeting. Had a tea cake / hot drink deal, was lovely. Great service, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Would visit again if I was in the area again.

This bakery was invaluable during the COVID days. It was lovely to be able to have their fresh bread and sausage rolls delivered. I adore their multi seeded bread and whilst a little expensive, it is well worth the £3 price. Their knotted donuts are tasty too% The staff always have smiles on their faces too. Thank you.

i was staying at Reading for the festival and found this cafe, the staff were friendly and the service was quick, despite the fact the cafe was full of fellow festival goers. Had a cheap bap + coffee deal which was so tasty, highly recommended!

I chose to visit here with my friend as I prefer small local businesses of bland national offerings. We were right to choose Warings. First off we arrived during the afternoon of the hottest day in UK history. They had no air-con working and thankfully it was still just bearable inside the shop. But they weren't alone - loads of other places were crazy hot. We had a smoothie and a cold drink from the fridge. The staff were pleasant, we couldn't face having anything to eat as it was just too hot everywhere. So didn't get to sample their food. Whilst we were there we did see them doing a thorough clean of the floor, which was good to see being done. I've never been to Caversham before, but when I'm next there I'll maybe try them for lunch.

A little while back I posted a review for the Costa coffee in Caversham. It was a terrible experience, I mentioned at the end of that review that next time I would give my business to the small business of Waring’s across the road… so I did. I was not disappointed. The service was excellent, so friendly and it was so clean as well! The woman who served me, I can’t remember her name, she had a South African or maybe Australian accent, I couldn’t really tell. My point is that I’d like to single her out as being attentive, informative, polite and gave great service. The place smelled incredible. The food was brilliant for just a small cafe/bakery. I went for the Jumbo Pig in a Blanket roll with stuffing and mustard 🤤 🤤 The mocha was ten times better than what you’d get at a Costa or Starbucks. If you’re in Caversham or Reading make sure you pick Warings over Costa. They also have a branch in Tilehurst. Thank you for a delightful time Warings

A great bakery with all the favourites available....Lardy cake, bread pudding, pasties etc etc. Friendly staff and good seating too. Good to find a traditional bakery still open.

Visited and purchased a sausage roll, some tea cakes and a Gypsy tart. Unfortunately the Sausage roll wasn’t great, tea cakes poor too and lacking fruit and flavour. Gypsy tart was spot on so would purchase again, if the other items matched this for quality I would have given 5 stars. Would like to see prices on items in store, looking at the website prices it looks like I was overcharged

Food is delicious and staff really friendly. Great price and pastries are sooo tasty. Thoroughly recommend a visit, as it’s also a local business which I like to support

I was excited to go to the bakery after going many times with my mother I thought it would be a lovely place to go with my friends. When we arrived the first issue face was that we are not able to cater to all our allergies and intolerances making one of our friends unable to eat anything. The second issue that we face was the staff were being very rude towards us and not treating us the same as some of the older customers in the shop. We believe that we should have been treated the same as we were paying the same and were polite. The staff didn't let us know that to sit down you have to pay extra, when we sat down after about 10-15 minutes they only then decide to let us know that you have to pay extra to sit down . After they told us this, we then proceeded to offer to pay the price to sit down as we felt bad that we had dmade this mistake and wanted to fix it, this is when the staff member rudely told us to 'Just pack up and leave'. The shop was empty so we couldn't see why we couldn't stay however we left anyways. This interaction ruined the day as the adult staff member made us, as children, feel largely upset and confused. The food was very good however it was a large letdown the way we were treated.

I got 2 doughnuts and a browie for my daughters and a hot chocolate and they said It was absalutly amazing.

The bread is very tasty and I make my own so l know a good loaf, the cakes make a nice treat. The best thing is the warm welcome and friendly service which I always receive. Try the lardy cake sweet and sticky just like it should be unlike some of the healthy low sugar rubbish you get in supermarkets these days, try a proper one then you can realise that the heathy option isn't always the best option. Please note always share with friends otherwise you will suddenly realise you've just eaten the whole thing yourself! Keep up the good work all at Waring's and thank you all for providing such a good service in these difficult times.

Rude and frustrated woman serving Such a dissapointing service!!! I went there with my daughter of 3 years old. First time we visited. The woman at the counter was extremely rude. I don’t know if its worthy adding racist as well, since she might have realised I was not british. My daughter said she wanted a cupcake, and while we were looking to chose one the woman got imediately frustrated because my daughter was in fact pointing at the chocolate cakes, not the cupcakes any more. So I had to pick a cupcake in a hurry, while telling my daughter to be quiet. Then while I was trying to order 2 other desserts the woman was repeatly telling me I needed to pay for the cupcake. I repeated several times that I was still ordering, then she (very annoyed) came to add more items. She got again pretty frustrated because I was pointing at the counter telling her I wanted 2 of the desserts in the front. She practically told me off, because the desserts were on her front of the counter, but the back of the counter from where I was standing. I was going to order more but I had to rush out pretty pissed off (excuse the wording) I have never received such a service, not in UK, not anywhere else in Europe, even developing countries. Add this to the fact of me having a 3 months old baby, that keeps me up all night, that was just an awful experience!!!

Fuera de esta panadería hay numerosos letreros que ofrecen una comida a la hora del almuerzo de café, baguette y pastel para 4. 50Después de hacer cola en la caja, me dijeron que esto era solo para llevar y que no había trato para comer. Esto no se mencionó en absoluto en los anuncios.No entendieron mi costumbre.

This place has recently had a makeover and it looks good. The food served is basic bakery fayre...sausage rolls, pasties, sandwiches with lovely cakes from childhood days. Coffee okay but the tea is good. Good little place for a pitstop. The staff are nice.

Along the streets of this village of Caversham is yin’s this delightful bakery. What an assortment of sweets. I even saw a sweet that is Reno ding of old caversham. A delight to see and taste.

At last, a bakery that focuses entirely on traditional English fare. None of this fancy French muck, just good old fashioned bloomers, pies, cakes and sausage rolls. Brilliant.

Nice selection of hot savories and cakes/donuts. Always hard to choose which to have.. Friendly and helpful staff.

Preferiría ir aquí que muchos de los otros cafés en Caversham. El indulgente Baker es parte de una cadena de 7 cafeterías locales panadería/(se llamaba Waring's Bakery). Siempre me da la sensación de que es mejor relación calidad-precio que otros, especialmente si vas a salir para una familia tratan de café y tarta.Voy a menudo allí como un término final de lujo con mis hijos porque venden muy grande donuts doble nudo y chocolate caliente. Normalmente tiene el chocolate caliente crema batida y malvaviscos encima (aunque las dos últimas veces nos decepcionamos cuando no tenían). Siempre hemos encontrado que ser amable y servicial.Tienen una gran variedad de tortas: helado, tartas de crema donuts resistencias, pasteles taza y panecillos. Venden artículos de temporada. El multi-pan de semillas es deliciosa y siempre comer todo antes de que lo hace para el congelador. La semana pasada (Noviembre 2016) tenían un chocolate con caramelo y palomitas tiffin en la cima y erizo galletas de jengibre decorado con chocolate. También venden rollos de salchichas, empanadas, sandwiches, patatas fritas y desayunos cocinados. Así que es un lugar en donde poder ir a tomar una comida para llevar o para tomar un bocadillo rápido y la cena.El año pasado yo estaba emocionado de descubrir (no genial para mi cintura) que hacen en la picada empanadas buenísimas hasta Navidad. No he encontrado una sola tarta de carne picada que como en cualquier otro lado por años!

Vino a esta panadería después de fallar en una panadería en Newbury. El personal era agradable y servicial, y había una buena variedad de pasteles y panes. Después de probar el flan de huevo tartas que me decidí a comprar un par, eran absolutamente deliciosos y los pasteles eccles. Pan era fresco y hecho un bocadillo riquísimo. Si viviera más cerca de Thatcham que sería un cliente habitual aquí.

English breakfast is an easy one but sweets are lovely specially the double knot and all the bread i really advice it

Íbamos a pasar el día y después de revisar tripadvisor, decidimos no salir a comer fuera, así que fui a la indulgente Baker en Thatcham. Compré dos rollos de carne de cerdo asada con relleno... y salsa de manzana... y chispeante... y un par de rollos de salchicha Ah... y un par de pasteles eccles. Absolutamente DELICIOSA! Los rollos eran tan abundante que tomó la casa de descanso para el té. Estamos saliendo hasta Northumbria en un par de semanas y sé lo que haremos para un almuerzo de picnic para el viaje!

Must agree with lazy girl for Thatcham branch think their servers must have been sent there. I was totally ignored as was only one in shop then man came in and he was immediately served and I had to wait a further 5 minutes while she discussed his Christmas exploited 3 other servers ignored me standing there and I am severely disabled I will never go there again

Fuimos a Caversham ya que gad en el periódico local para tener una gran variedad de tiendas, incluyendo un galardonado carniceros. Pasamos aquí y decidimos tomar un cuento rápido lejos de un sándwich y una tarta.

We stopped off in Caversham on the way to an appointment in Reading and looked for somewhere to have a quick drink and a cake. My wife had a Coffee and a chocolate brownie, I had a tea and an Eccles cake. The coffee was okay and so was the tea. I was disappointed that I paid over £2 for what was a tea bag in a mug of hot water instead of a pot from which I could have had a couple of mugs full. The only reason I give this a rating of four as opposed to three was the cakes/pastries. My Eccles cake was large and filled with fruit mix and the chocolate brownie my wife had was one of the best we'd ever tasted (it was that good I had to try it)

My partner and I walked past this bakery and cafe early yesterday morning, and decided to step in for breakfast. One can immediately see that they are good at what they do, as they offer master classes in bakery, for those who inquire. The wonderful-looking selection of cakes and pastries on display aside, I was slightly disappointed that the "fruit juice" labelled on their menu turned out simply to be Ribena. Nonetheless, I ordered a BLT baguette, and my partner a Ham and Cheese toastie. Admittedly they were just opening up when we arrived, but it did take a while to order, and even longer before our food arrived.My baguette was really good; slightly more crunchy than I would have liked, but not overbearingly so. The bread was tasty, and the filling also excellent. My partner's ham and cheese toastie came... Without the ham, which was also quite disappointing. They also, irritatingly, implement a 20% charge to customers eating in, which we only found out about after paying, so it was more expensive than we had imagined it would be.Lastly, however, we ordered an iced bun and doughnut; both were delicious, absolutely fantastic. I can see why they get such a good name locally for their pastries and the products from their bakery, though perhaps the cafe isn't the best, or the cheapest, place to stop for breakfast.
