The Indian On Skirving Street in Glasgow City

I popped in last night and had a meal to remember. Took two of the specials. A delicious fresh aromatic vegetable biriani with a succulent tandoori leg of chicken on a creamy piquant sauce with potatoes. Can't remember the description but I will never forget the taste. Now looking for an excuse to return ASAP!

Portion size is far too small. Lots of feedback about this already not surprised. Food good though. Bill was almost £200 and there were only 4 adults and a child dining. We didn’t even have alcohol (except from one beer), just some soft drinks. Prices were shocking (considering how tiny dishes are) now I think of it considering what we got.

Our favourite Indian restaurant in Glasgow to dine in or take away. Always great service and delicious food with lovely staff and atmosphere. It will always be our go-to.

Food is pretty good, but the portions are very small for the price. Their decision to market their menu as 'small plates' seems like a clever excuse to sell tiny portions for the same price as other Indian restaurants sell a full one. The curries contain 3-4 small chunks of meat. The ambiance is nice and the service was great, but we left hungry.

Best Indian in Shawlands. Great central. Location both dine in and takeaway are tasty treats. Never got on board with their nans tho, small, flacid and tasteless, give them a miss. Nov 2024... Still alright.

Bonito entorno, pero eso es todo. Mal servicio. Música demasiado alta. Comida bien pero porciones muy pequeñas. Curry llegó, pero edades antes del arroz, etc, por lo que estaba frío para cuando llegamos a comerlo. Platos fríos. Definitivamente no malgastaría su dinero.

I love the food from here but ordering 2 of the same curry’s and the second one had 3 bits of chicken in it so disappointing

My partner and I had the good fortune to visit this restaurant yesterday, 10/10/24. We travelled from the city centre having seen positive things online. We were not disappointed once we arrived, the restaurant is in a nice area and once inside, everything is fab, we really liked the family photos. The food was fab. Also the two people who served us were so pleasant, charming and helpful. A thoroughly positive experience.

Went on an impromptu date night here with my wife. Absolutely lovely place, the food is reasonably priced, really really tasty and the service is great!! Would highly recommend for home made Indian food, not had this good in a long time! Thanks guys 😊

By far the best Indian food in Glasgow

I had a great experience at The Indian on Skirving Street. Most of the menu is gluten-free. Be cautious with the pakoras; the waiter checked if a gluten-free fryer was available since they sometimes use the same fryer for samosas. We decided to skip them. The curries were all gluten-free ( I had no reaction from the meal ) and delicious. I'll definitely return.

Nunca antes habíamos experimentado toda la comida que pedimos, es decir, entrantes y tuberías que llegan a la vez. Popadoms, pakora y red. Porciones muy pequeñas a 8 libras cada una para un curry. Pedí tres currys entre dos como se aconseja y realmente no era suficiente comida. Arroz similar a una porción muy pequeña. Para tener suficiente comida podrías terminar gastando mucho dinero aquí. Comida de buena calidad, pero estaba pasando frío para cuando habíamos terminado los entrantes. No lo suficientemente bueno en nuestra opinión. Camarera sucia y murmurando , despejaba platos pero no limpiaba la mesa. Lo limpiamos nosotros mismos antes de que se diera cuenta y viniera.

Food is very good however extremely slow and poor service despite many members of staff available, perhaps poor management?!

Superb Indian restaurant, the tapas menu is unlike most restaurants in the area and there is plenty on there to choose from. No issues with service which was speedy, staff very attentive also. Can’t recommend highly enough, keep up the good work!

Brilliant Tikka; no food colour for change from other places. Aloo tikki, samosa, veg pakora very tasty. Desi machli was a bit spicy, spinach mushroom chicken was delicious! Mango kulfi was good too. Quick service.

Food is poisoned with salt. Won't be back.

We have visited the Indian on Skirving Street 4 times now, So I would say each visit has been consistent. The menu is very much a micro Glasgow Indian menu . Smaller than most restaurants but the quality is excellent. Great starters and a good selection of main courses with chicken and lamb featuring strongly. My only complaint is the size of the portions. I would say that it is cheaper than most Indian restaurants in the area . But and there is a but the portions are representative of the smaller prices. I would recommend having a starter a main course and rice as well as a bread. this should come in about £20 per head . I have another small gripe It is a lovely room with furniture and woodwork by the talented local artisan woodworker Paul Hodgkiss designs. tables are always filled from around the dead end corner. I hate being put in the corner in an otherwise empty restaurant. Staff are always well trained and pleasant. Food is the big pull here it is excellent , My last visit I had 4 bits of chicken in my curry. Get the portions right and I will visit every week !

I went two days ago. I have thought about the food a few times since. I need to go back. Is that the most spectacular Indian food I have tasted in the UK yet? Lamb karahi, sweet chicken wings, nan... Please do not change ANYTHING! Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. See you soon next month!

Lovely meal here! It’s small plates so best to order 2-3 mains per person with rice and/or naan. After a wee bit of confusion describing the concept the service was great. Lots of options to cater for veggies and meat eaters alike. Reasonably priced.

We had a very nice meal here. It was a busy Friday night, it is a small plates/tapas restaurant all the dishes we ordered were fantastic and very tasty! I would say the menu could do with more variety/choice and my own personal preference is not tapas style dining but this place has executed perfectly.

Tried to ordertakeaway using the app. Wasted time installing it and building an order slowly. It doesn't work. Ordered elsewhere which is a shame as the food used to be good.

We had a fabulous day out in Shawlands with our fabulous friend Eddie. We looked for a few places and as you do I stopped a local and said ‘ where’s the best to eat’ the lovely lady said here. It was the best Indian food I have ever had. Great portions, beautiful decor and the staff very attentive to insure you had a got what you asked for. We had 8 dishes and everyone was delightful. If you are in the area this is the place to go. Luckily we shall be back as our from now resides in Shawlands. 12/10

The food could be better (coming from an Indian ). The ambience and service compensates well for it. This place will blow up with reviews if the food gets slightly fresh and more Indian.

Service not good. Small portions, was told, but very small for the price. Forgot my drinks order and then forgot my dessert, by the time I managed to get their attention and get to say everyone else had finished, then they had the cheek to put over £14 SERVICE CHARGE on the bill, which I paid but really didn’t deserve. There are definitely better places to go.

Came to Glasgow for the weekend from Wales, daughter booked The Indian on Skirving street as it’s her local. It was by far the best Indian we have ever had! All food was absolutely delicious! Staff friendly and recommended we get a few dishes, we tried a bit of each and honestly, it was amazing! Gutted it’s not our local!

I cannot recommend this place enough! By far, the best restaurant in Glasgow. Delicious authentic Indian food, tapas style coupled with impeccable service and decent prices. I am surprised that there are not queues to get into this place! Truly fantastic time after time, a must visit restaurant!

Myself and my friends went for dinner and all I can say was it was incredible. The place itself looks and feels very different to your normal Indian restaurant, very spacious and also trendy but also very relaxed. Our waiter explained the menu to us as it’s sharing plates, which we loved the idea of. We ordered 4 large cobras and some popadoms to start. We then ordered : Chilli chicken Pakora , Fish (can’t remember the name) , Aloo tiki, Chicken Makini, Chicken karhi, Lamb curry, Spinach and potato, 2 Garlic naan and a rice. Everything was amazing, each dish has its own unique flavours and tasted light and fresh. We didn’t feel bagged up after eating it. All in all a great experience, very well priced for the level of food. Will be back

Been here so many times, the food is dependable and consistent. Got recommended here my first time by some friends, definitely an underrated place that too many people are gatekeeping, lol! The curries taste authentic, service is fast and attentive. We ordered the famous Chicken makhani masala which was on point, the tikka from the specials menu is something to keep an eye out for! Great ambience, throws you off if you come in expecting a stereotypical Indian restaurant with old music. The place is young and alive during the weekends. Definitely coming back to this hidden gem.

Extremely salty!!!! I was working late and ordered a curry as a treat, it was not a treat unfortunately. How can they be selling this stuff. Ordered standard curry, the flavour that hits you is salt, extreme salt, them tomato and then spice. So, so poor, I won’t be trying this place again, shame, how hard is it to make a balanced curry, are the chefs even tasting the food? I had to finish the meal as I was hungry, then as consequence of the salt - had to drink litres of water and subsequently feel bloated! How has this place got any good reviews! Wish them all the best, but that was so disappointing.

Disappointed and dishearten , Indian restaurant and Indian chef is not aware or serve INDIAN JAIN FOOD (without onion/garlic)…. What a waste of time making 15 miles journey as tourist !!!

Lovely restaurant, food delicious great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Masala was OK but not very hot when brought out and chicken is rubbery (velvety like you'd get in a Chinese curry). Certainly didn't feel freshly made. Paratha was incredibly greasy. Service very nice and friendly. Interior feels quite tired and dated.

Great food with ideal sized portions, you are recommended to pick 3 things but once you add rice and a nann it's the ideal amount. Atmosphere wasn't great but that might be down to us eating on a Sunday afternoon but service was great. Highly recommended will definitely be going back.

We went on for a family night out just 3 of us me my son and my wife. They put us near a loud group of people who was drinking fair enough. We asked if its possible to move and they said sorry it wasn't possible. It's was really annoying because my son kept getting hit by the chair of a man who was moving around and being loud so ( he was drunk ) so I got up and moved our table abit down and even then they was being loud and hitting our chairs. My son has autism so he wasn't liking it and he was feeling so hot there wasn't a window open or any air conditioning so he was suffering. We order 50 pounds worth of food. Which was 2 currys 2 starters 1 biryani and 1 rice 1 naan. The only thing that was nice was samosa chaat that is why I am giving the food 1 start. The portion of food is awful, the rice couldn't even fill up my 5 year old that was how little it was. There was only 3 piece of chicken in each of our curries. We really felt like we had been scammed, after we got out we order a take away from clay oven. And we never been back too the indian ever again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. This isn't real indian food, nothing special just rice and supermarket curry that's all.

Family run business with a quite unique eating experience. If you like Indian food you will love this restaurant. Clean and tidy, staff professional and attentive. Good value for money. The food is awesome and we only got to try a little of the menu. It will become a regular stop for us now

Lovely modern restaurant with a great range of Indian food. They also serve some guest Scottish Craft beers so you dont need to have the same usual lagers.

I was here at the weekend with a small group of friends who were visiting Glasgow. We shared a range of starters, mains and sides and the food was unbelievable - we all agreed it was food we'd be thinking about for a good time after. The paneer butter masala was a particular highlight. The service was incredibly fast - even on a busy Saturday night (book ahead!) we had eaten all our food in an hour. It was also amazing value for the quality of the food - even with 4 of us and a drink each it came to under £100. I live in the area and have somehow never visited before now - now that I know how great it is, I'll definitely be back.

Shared 8 dishes between 2, the chilli chicken pakora and Amrit sari crispy fish were amazing. We had a chicken makhani masala and a lamb curry along with tandoori king prawns and rice and a pershwari naan. The food was delicious and my partner ordered another dish of lamb curry and the prawns too as they were totally to die for. Well worth a visit. Beautiful restaurant inside and very attentive staff. The Pinot grigot was delicious too.

Extremely tasty, fresh and well prepared and cooked food from starters of popadoms, pakora and Amritsari fish, main course of cauliflower and potato curry and delightful naan bread to delicious gulab jamun and chocolate rolls. ( all amazing with the exception of the ‘chocolate’ sauce decorating the plate accompanying the beautifully filled chocolate rolls, which tasted plastic and out of a squeezy bottle rather than home made, definitely would have been a much better dish without this.) Service efficient and pleasant enough but no one asked if we were enjoying our food, or at the end if we enjoyed. Perhaps staff were too busy, but might be worth a wee retrain. Wine a bit over priced. All in all a lovely wee night. Thank you.

Been here a few times and loved the dinning experience. However have to mention our last visit. Ordered and were eating our starters when all the main dishes arrived. Asked them to take then away to keep warm until we’d finished our starters. Said after we’d not be having desert then was handed our bill, while we still had wine to drink. Felt very rushed when all we wanted was a relaxing evening. Bit disappointed as as we’ve always enjoyed eating there.

Both the restaurant and the home delivery service are excellent. My favourite is Chicken Makhani Masala and their rice and nans are special too.

There are about 8 vegan options for starters and small plates. Between two we shared 5 plus a side and this was more than enough. Vegan options aren’t marked as such, so it’s best to ask and there are no vegan desserts. The curries themselves...

Lovely unfrilled space. Tye emphasis is on the food. Make sure that you book. Great food, service is a bit slow but the food is worth it.

Very small portions and expensive for small plates had 4 small plates between us a rice which was a very small bowl not even a standard size and poppodoms and left starving never left a Indian restaurant hungry before in my life had to pick up South Indian pizza from local takeaway on route home. Very unsatisfied.

Really good authentic curries, amazing taste and good portions. Focused selection of both meat and vegetarian dishes. Only gone here for collection over the past year and food is always ready very quickly and with a great service. Going to have give dining in a go. Butter paneer highly recommended!

Been a long time since I’ve been out on a Saturday night. The 3 of us decided to go “old school” - drinks in the Granary followed by a curry. Have eaten take away from The Indian on Skirving St quite a few times during...
