Lovely hotel. Had the small double which was ample for a solo traveller, classed as single online, but all rooms have doubles. Very cosy. Staff super friendly and chatty. Breakfast, lovely.

We really liked it here. Had dinner on a Monday night while passing through and the food was very good. Service from Sabrina was prompt and efficient and made everything go smoothly. I stupidly left behind a jumper that after a quick phone call was arranged to be posted back to me. Really appreciated that and shows they care too. Highly recommended.

My girlfriend and I were both feeling a bit rough last Sunday, wanted a roast but did *not* feel like buying one from a supermarket, cooking it, washing up, etc. Speculatively, I booked a table at the Ilchy Arms. We'd been there a couple of weeks previously for a family birthday Sunday lunch and had been impressed. As a couple we were more impressed. The service was a lot better. the food was served very promptly after ordering (we literally waited no more than 5 minutes). We both had roast beef. It was tender and tasty, the roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings decent, good gravy and lovely vegetables, cooked to perfection (not overboiled), and the cauliflower cheese good. I had a pint of Staropramen which was cold and hit the spot. We didn't have starters or puddings, and were in and out within 50 minutes. Truly exactly what we needed, with zero fuss. Thank you very much for giving us just what we wanted.

As usual for this venue, the service was good, food was excellent and price very acceptable. We have dined there on several occasions both at lunch time and evening and never had any cause for concern or complaint. There are few restaurants in the area who have retained the ambiance and overall efficiency that this establishment has.

Had a drink in the garden which was untidy, not that clean, waitress gave me the wrong drink, served others first who’d asked for a drink after us, the language from the locals in earshot of a child was not great. I’m no prude, but there is a time & a place for some words. Very glad I didn’t book a room here based on this visit. It’s a shame as I’m told the inside is better, but my visit has put me off. I guess the place has decided to cater for the locals rather than visitors.

Kitchen lets this place down and needs a wake up call / training. Six of the meals ordered did not get delivered correctly.

Passing through Ilchester with my sister and just wanted a quick bite to eat. Nice enough restaurant in terms of decor, as expected. Friendly welcome and pleasant service. We both ordered an omelette and coffee. Overpriced to say the least. The ham was neatly chopped and of the processed variety,as with the cheese both fillings were added as an after thought to the omelette so not even a warm filling. They came with a few leaves, 2 slices of cucumber and 2 slices of raddish. I work in central London and would not be charged £6.95 for this paltry, badly prepared omelette anywhere. I will not be contributing again to what must be a very lucrative gross profit margin.

Arrived late after nightmare journey from london on a Sunday afternoon, kitchen closed no FOOD thought I was going to die all staff said no food and kitchen closed till tomorrow AND THEN The chef walked through the bar and I candidly asked any chance of s sandwich chef. WELL a fantastic response from a kitchen that was closed after a busy lunch he produced pork baguettes and beef baguettes with roast potatoes What a saviour. I would recommend this pub and hotel to everyone the food is fantastic and the chef named ‘Paolo ‘ was brilliant so much so we tried the restaurant and the fillet steak is to die for, great experience it’s a winner

I ordered the special and the description was one of succulent beef. What arrived was pre-sliced beef and although it was good it was not what I expected. A good idea sometimes is to show a photograph of the meal especially for the specials and this would certainly help foreign visitors. Yes I will be back but read in more detail of what is being offered on the menu.

Lovely place to sit outside during the hot summer days with a cold drink and a meal as the views are stunning. Would highly recommend it.

Due too work, I found this place by chance, but it’s lovely. Staff welcoming, the steak is stunning. And easy reach of the a303.

First time at this Hotel. My room was comfortable with a double bed. Clean and tidy. The housekeeping staff were very good at replenishing the water and keeping things in good order. WiFi throughout the hotel. A reasonable size TV. Friendly and helpful staff. Would stay here again. In fact some of my colleagues have used this since my visit.

We stayed in the hotel and had an evening meal. The customer service was 5* from the beginning. They had a nice range of ales and ciders. The kids were given activities to colour and do. The food was outstanding! The kids even ate all their food and pudding :) highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you

Stayed the night in the hotel and had dinner on good Friday the food was very good we will definitely go there again when we are in the area, I would strongly advise booking a table it can yget very busy.

A little pricey, but the food was cracking and so was the service. Been back a few times now. Never been disappointed.

Hermoso edificio y zona de precioso restaurante pero porque nos dijeron que el servicio de cena no comienza hasta las 7 de la tarde nos fuimos a otro lado. Dos niños hambrientos no estaban esperando, no importa cuán bueno el menú parecía! Es una pena, porque me hubiera gustado haber comido allí.

Mi esposa y yo visitamos hoy como huéspedes de un amigo. Cada uno eligió un plato principal diferente - asado de cordero, Pollo de cadera estilo portugués de mama y cerveza - pesca del día y los tres nos quedamos encantados con la presentación y la calidad de la comida. Mi flan - El con plátano y toffee pavlova - era deliciosa, pero me pareció que la cantidad de crema un poco demasiado. No me gusta dejar comida en el plato, pero tuvimos que dejar algunos de los crema. Mi café era muy buena, pero hubiera preferido una taza más pequeña.

Dejó aquí cuando buscando un lugar para comer una comida ligera, con un amigo. Un montón de espacio, cómodo, un personal atento, comida muy recomendable.

Acabamos de regresar de una estancia de 2 noches. Lo que un pequeño hotel peculiar. El desayuno era encantador no cenamos porque íbamos a visitar a unos familiares. La habitación era muy acogedora y había toallas limpias todos los días bien hecho a su limpieza. El personal era muy amable y servicial hay un arca en la parte trasera de la carpa y un encantador edificio jardín little bear que sería encantador en una noche de verano volveremos.

Have been here on a romantic date, family meal and with friends. Each time the food and service has been lovely. Would particularly recommend Thursday night steak night offer but maybe book on weekends or popular nights.

Stayed here for 5 nights for a family break. Comfortable room. Slept really well on a really comfy bed. Felt very much at home. Relaxed. Cater for everyone, young and old. Food exceptional. Felt like I have had a proper rest. Great bar. Fabulous bistro. Breakfast amazing. Gluten free totally catered for. Would highly recommend. Will be making many return visits!!

We have eaten at the Ilchester Arms several times recently and it really is very much a cut above the average. I have given it my own highest accolade of "Very Good" since I reserve the ultimate accolade of "Excellent" for those restaurants that inhabit the stratosphere of culinary experiences in the culinary world. ie; places like La Gavroche, Le Manoir etc.I have tended to have steak on most occasions because their steaks really are something special in terms of flavour. My partner has tried a number of different dishes and they have been of a very good standard as well. They have a Chinese duck starter complete with all the necessary bits and pieces which is truly superb and puts most genuine Chinese restaurants to shame. Their cheese board may seem a tad expensive but the selection and quality of what they offer is amongst the best cheese boards that I have ever come across anywhere.As to the restaurant itself, it is essentially a bistro in character and atmosphere. I absolutely love their tapestries on the walls and although it may be becoming a little passé now, the serving of food on something that isn't round and made out of china does not detract at all and I rather like a slightly different presentation anyway.Staff are very polite and accommodating and speaking to various other people on several occasions, the experience of staying in the "Arms" in the hotel part would seem to equal if not exceed that of eating in the restaurant. The breakfast has been remarked upon as being particularly good by all and sundry.I have absolutely no hesitation in giving a complete recommendation for this establishment to anyone going on their way up or down the A303.

Stopped off for lunch on the way back from Devon. Very good food and friendly service plus pleasant surroundings. Would use again.

Breakfast was always a great start to the day. We enjoyed all the evening meals we had in the restaurant. Just delicious.

Stuck in traffic jams coming back from Easter break and stopped off at Ilchester. The Ilchester Arms had a very extensive menu but we chose the roast beef and roast lamb off the Monday menu. Both were delicious with plenty of fresh vegetables and meat. Would definitely recommend it. Nice atmosphere and plenty of parking.

Nice room only spoilt by the fact heating was not working but heaters put in room just cold when we got up.Lovely people with an excellent breakfast.Would stay here again.

Me and my partner decided to try the Thursday special which is 2 steaks for £20. It was beautifully cooked and very reasonable for the price! Staff were very friendly too! I would defiantly recommend it!!

We stopped by the Ilchester Arms at the end of a long walk. Good beer served by friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We parked ourselves on a couple of sofas which were near the fireplace and were able to watch the world go by outside. I'd happily come here again.

I visited the Ilchester Arms earlier this month, to meet up with old friends. As usual the lunch was very enjoyable.

We stopped here enroute to Cornwall. Great meal and prompt polite service for a very reasonable price. We will certainly go again.

Firstly and most importantly the Ilchester Arms has impeccable service and wonderfull ambience. The food was a notch short of delicious, though. The leek and potato soup was super hot and a fairly large bowl with a very "veggy-taste" (good, don't get me wrong).The 5 bean burger however was a dissappointment. Not a lot of taste, the melted cheddar was melted away and where was not a hint of spiciness. However the bun was OK and the chips very good. The salad crispy and fresh so that saved a bit.

Ate here on a Thursday night which is steak night and excellent value. Friendly service, good ambience and great helpings. Good place to stop en route to the West Country and easy too find and park just off the A303

Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Good wine good food great serve and very friendly what more could you want!!!

We stopped here for lunch on our way down to Devon. It's a few minutes off the A303. Both lunches were good even if they were a little pricey. Chips were a little greasy but we enjoyed everything else we had. Nice walled garden to sit in the sun. Ditch the road service stations and find a pub along the route!

We have been twice in as many weeks and look forward to the next visit, the food is fantastic. Beer choice is not as good as it has been in the past, only 1 real ale on, but my bugbear has to be the waitress... Oh my lord.... If you hear her say "guys" once you hear it a million times.... After a while you get truly jarred off ... Lovely pleasant girl, just wish she would stop calling everyone "guys".... "Evening guys...everything ok guys.. Are you finished guys!!... More drinks guys... Arrrrrgh!!

Met up with some old friends for lunch after many years and the warm welcome from the staff as we walked through the door lay the foundation for a very good extended lunch.Nothing fancy in the way of interior design, but nevertheless a good mixture of light and shade throughout the downstairs rooms which was very welcome on a hot day. I have to say the prices seemed a bit steep with 4 drinks coming to £18 + but I resigned myself to the fact that this was a hotel restaurant.The menu was pretty comprehensive with something to suit everyone. We went 'native' with locally sourced sausages and beef dishes and very tasty they were too. Decent portions, so much so that we had no room for pudding.The walled garden out the back was pleasant to sit in and reminisce although not very big. This hotel is in the middle of the village and the car park at the rear is a bonus.Recommended for a stopover if you are heading west on the A303.

Fabulous scallop salad for lunch with a lovely pint of Sharps Orchard cider. My husband had a very good roast lamb lunch.Well worth a visit.

A party of 5 of us dined there recently and the food was OK although I ordered a steak medium to well done and when it was delivered I found it required a little more grilling to bring it up to what I wanted. Having said that, the lady took it back and returned it about 5 minutes later cooked to my satisfaction, unfortunately the rest of the vegetables were left on the table so they were a little cooler than they should have been. Not a bad experience and the staff were very polite and couldn't do enough for us. I gave 3.0 starts although I think 3.5 is more befitting. Would I eat here again? Yes.

Room was excellent, water pressure needs a little of attention but the food and room was fantastic x from the everest crew

The Monday menu had lots of delicious looking main meals at around the £10 mark. The rose veal was delicious and came in a very generous portion. The plaice in a mushroom and garlic sauce was also excellent and a little different to usual. The chips were beautifully cooked but one was sufficient as they tasted as if the fat was stale. did not complain as plenty to eat without them. Service was friendly but haphazard

Stopped here each way on a recent short trip. Had lunch going down and it was excellent. Tasty dishes, good sized portions and excellent salad to go with them. In particular the dressing was one of the best we have tasted in a restaurant. On way back we were earlier and so just has a sandwich. Again excellent with lovely brown bread. So nice to find somewhere like this to break the journey. Staff polite and keen, prices reasonable.

Picked this as a place to catch up with friends from googling. So pleased we did. Maybe it was the weather, but we could not have picked a better place on the road to stop for Sunday lunch. The beer garden was great, plenty if space and a play area for our 8 year old.Service was great and we were offered a tab without asking. The food order was taken from our table and came out hot and in a reasonable time.Best of all we stayed catching up with friends who we hadn't seen for over 3 years well after all the other diners had left and we were never approached to pay the bill before we left.Overall a lovely experience.

Have eaten here often and always enjoyed a really great meal. Now they have a Plat du Jour menu. Three courses, no choice but a great price. Beautifully presented and generous portions, and slightly out of the ordinary (pigeon breast starter) followed by a very good roast lamb. Menu changes daily and the glass of Merlot was very enjoyable.
