The welcome on the Thursday evening was a cold one, and it felt like we were an inconvenience. Maybe because we were the only ones in there. More reason in my eyes to engage and smile. Its sad to see the slow decline of The Poppe. The place is deserted and in need of TLC. The excuses get boring quite frankly and the lack of reviews and cars in the car park is evident. Is there time left to save the pub? Not sure now.

Public Houses are sadly becoming a thing of the past. YOPI is doing what it can to remain in a sector under pressure and I applaud them. They are not far away from a top notch offering...so please keep it up for those of us that need locations like yours! 🙂

This pub feels very unloved. We visited in the evening and it was practically empty. We were greeted with the stench of the toilets as we entered, and then a stale smoke mixed with a smell of oil or grease. My husband's glass was dirty, only noticed half way into the pint. We left whilst looking at the menu as that was pretty basic. A cold and smelly pub. Not surprisingly empty. I dread to think what behind the scenes was like. One to avoid for sure.

Dropped in with my son for some Saturday lunch. Welcoming landlord & landlady. Welcoming regulars. Ordered fish & chips, and a tuna Mayo baguette. Fish super crispy batter. Generous portion. Tuna Mayo baguette….. if it was …. Just a baguette sliced in half and filled…. That’d be…. ‘Ok’. But… the baguette had been warned through giving it a very nice crust and soft inside. I appreciate them going the extra mile to make something better than ‘ok’. Hat tip. We felt welcomed and looked after. We’ll be back 🙂

Called to Ye Olde Poppe Inn for a spot of lunch today. Arrived at around 1.00pm to find it closed. Both Google and their FB page had opening hours from 12.00pm to 3.00pm and 4.00pm to 11.00pm. While weighing up options; a member of staff came to the door; she said sorry we don’t open until 4.00pm. I pointed out that they may wish to update FB and Google as both said they were open from 12.00pm. Her exact words were “don’t be so F*ckin* rude to me love” and walked off. I have never been spoken to like that before by a member of staff of a public house or any other food/drinking establishment & I most definitely will not be frequenting this establishment in the future. 0 out of 5 for my rating.

We ordered a light lunch which came out in good time and was well presented however, whilst eating, the chef came outside coughing like mad, I asked her if she had Covid, she said yes, I was shocked that she could be working on food so questioned further as I wanted to make sure she hadn't prepared our lunch and she said that it was Ok as she had changed her whites, not sure how that protects the clients when she has touched every door on the way through and hadn't been wearing a mask? Surely you can not have a chef with Covid preparing food, it defies belief. Interestingly as soon as I had questioned her a young lad came out to check our food was alright, I will let you know in a few days when I know if I have Covid or not!

Im absolutely disgusted with the customer service! Firstly when we called to see if they were serving food the woman on the phone was extremely rude and put down the phone so we had to call back to confirm they were and until what time. When we arrived and ordered the food at the bar we were over charged it stated on the menu the steak was £13.95 and we was charged £18.95 also the mozzarella sticks were £5 on the menu but we were charged £6, when the food arrived it was cold and to my absolute disgust there was a pubic hair in the chicken with white wine sauce! Also, the cheesy chips came without cheese! When we complained about the hair the gentleman was in denial saying he couldn’t see the hair but it was definitely placed on purpose as the bulb was visible so it was clearly freshly plucked! When we changed the order to a steak it came but there was no peppercorn sauce and when asked if we could have some peppercorn sauce they said yes that’s £2.50. Given the service I was not happy to accept being charged for the sauce and the gentlemen said ‘you’re not having it then’ and took the food away! I had been driving for 3 hours, I was not in the mood for arguing, I was starving but at this point I was livid. I explained how angry I was and expressed that I couldn’t believe they were refusing to give me the peppercorn sauce for free after the disgusting service. They gave me my money back for my main meal and asked me to leave but when I said I couldn’t as I was caring for a young person they threatened to call the police! I’m laughing typing this because the service was ridiculously bad and if I don’t laugh I’ll cry. Finally, as I was waiting for the YP and my colleague to finish their food I could hear the gentleman saying ‘I knew they would be trouble when they walked in’. Wow the absolute cheek of it! Never again, if you’re an out of towner don’t eat here as they will judge you on your accent before anything else. And this is how honest I am, the food looked lovely. But they picked the wrong person to try and con. I wish I could post the picture because I have it!!

We waited for about half an hour and the food duly arrived piping hot.My fish, chips and devine minted mushy peas were top class and I commented that I hadn't ordered whale and chips as it appeared so large. We visited here on our summer hol for the one meal out we treat the kids to, the food was below average and took a long time to arrive, the mussels tasted of chlorine, were way overcooked and the sauce was watery, the lasagna was inedible, grey horrible tasting meat still in clumps and not broken up, I was told they were having problems with their meat supplier yet the uneaten dish was still charged for ( I would not even serve a dish if I knew the meat was rank). The Creme brulee dessert was also overcooked and had separated into a rice pudding consistency. It also had raspberries in it which my daughter was unaware of, I was told rudely that they were strawberries and not raspberries but of course I know what a raspberry looks like and what a strawberry looks like! Anyway the main problem was the vomit like consistency and not that there was fruit hidden inside. The Kids' deep fried meals were fine as you would expect, the steak was also just ok. Overall very below average and I would not recommend the place to eat. The Landlady was very friendly though and engaging with the children. Ok place to go for a drink but I wouldn't recommend the food at all. Since eating there I have also seen an article online about the food hygiene rating being given a few months earlier of one star, wish we knew this earlier and could have avoided the place.I was very sad to have wasted our only meal out in this place :(

We visited last weekend and the pub itself is really lovely, albeit a bit cold in there and could have done with putting the fires on. The bar service was friendly and that's where the positives stop. We ordered food for 2 adults and 3 children, it took around 50 minutes to come out, from what I can see there were 3 people in the kitchen but I don't think much cooking was going on. When the food did eventually come out my daughters sausages were so overcooked/crunchy you needed a sharp knife to cut them (I would have been so embarrassed to serve them), liver was overcooked, mash incredibly lumpy, steak overcooked. There was absolutely no care and attention in that meal whatsoever and we certainly won't be going back or recommending, which is a shame as could be really nice.
