Disappointed with this visit. We had focaccia to start with but it was stale and dry rather than a nice pillowy, oily treat. Great olives. My partner's pizza was fine but dull and rather soggy and with tinned tomato topping. I had a burger which had a burnt brioche bun and the burger itself was overcooked with burnt edges and completely lacking in taste. Very unpleasant. The setting is lovely and the waitress was charming but the barman was extremely miserable and looked like he hated being there!

When choosing a room, make sure not to choose the room under the attic. Due to the sloping ceilings and the high knee floor, the room seems a bit cramped. However, if you spend the whole day enjoying the great surroundings, this doesn't matter much. The breakfast, as well as the location and the staff, are extremely accommodating and fulfill all your wishes.

Disappointing, Obnoxious, Unprofessional, Unhelpful Customer Service plus extremely unfriendly. This review is about the coffee place/ Café/ Restaurant - At The Chapel. I have loved this place for years and despite other people saying how bad the place was with average food I still loved it. Every time we came to the countryside we would first drive to Bruton to buy whatever we could from The Chapel. The service has been always on the unfriendly side but once they realised that we were loyal customers and not just visitors they would warm up a little bit… I have been completely shocked what happened, this place has gone from bad to worse and sadly I have to agree with all the negative feedbacks below on facebook. There is clearly something fundamentally wrong with this place, not only are the staff lacking in the most basic training but the management are unable to handle difficult and challenging situations without offending customers. I walked into the cafe feeling so happy to be back again only to see that everyone looks so unhappy, no acknowledgement no hello no good afternoon nothing at all and when questioned a member of staff about what is the difference between two different breads the person was unable to answer, when i questioned the staff about vegan, and dairy free pastries I was told to read every single ingredient on every single label as the person also had no clue what I was talking about. For your information I did read the the labels but on chocolate cake the description of Allergens: was left blank no description at all and your member of staff not only was unable to answer the basic question but has no knowledge of the products you sell. This is unacceptable, given what had happened recently and how an innocent person died due to her allergies not being taken seriously, I am stunned by this approach and how little your staff know about the products and how your employees walked around the cafe/ bakery pulling the face and making unpleasant and unfriendly faces instead of helping. Finally, when I managed to put my order together and I paid, I noticed that I was given completely wrong order. When another member of staff joined in this chaos, I was treated with lack of respect, I said this service is extremely unfriendly and unhelpful and that I have an allergy which no one was able to answer my questions, the member of staff pulled out a bread with cynical behaviour stating this is bread… this behaviour is unacceptable and it shows lack of compassion, respect and humanity. What a shame how you act not only as “professionals” but humans. Customers come to your or any other business to have enjoyable shopping experience and that involves having a conversation with the staff, it is completely inappropriate and unacceptable for members of staff being in a working environment without not only product knowledge but also with people skills. To summarise your place, I came to to buy chia vegan latte and beautiful dairy free cake but walked out being treated in very unprofessional and miserable manner by your staff, definitely would not recommend this place there are few other places within driving distance but with happy and most importantly polite staff. Wish you peace and love as you clearly lacking this in your life.

Came here for a roast dinner but I was pretty disappointed. I was served 2 wafer thin slivers of beef and my partner had a solitary slice of pork. Both dishes came without their condiments (horse radish and apple sauce), so we had to ask the waitress for these. I don't really care about the price and the overall flavours were ok, but come on, 2 extremely thin slices of beef is not acceptable. It was the kind you'd get a packet at a supermarket, not befitting of a dinner menu. Aside from that the yorkshire puddings were more like big crisps and they were pretty inedible. I guess they left out the egg from the mixture to appease vegans, but surely someone must have tasted these before serving and realised how unappetising they were. All in all it was more like a school dinner. I liked the space and the ambience, which is why I gave this 2*s instead of 1.

I recently visited At The Chapel and, unfortunately, had a disappointing experience despite the promising venue and good food. We placed our initial order and it took nearly 30 minutes for our coffees to arrive. To make matters worse, one of the cups was dirty which is simply unacceptable. We ordered two cooked breakfasts and a breakfast roll, which took 50 minutes to get to our table. During this time, we noticed that tables who came in after us received their food much earlier. This inconsistency in service was frustrating. There was no check-in on our table while we were eating, and the young waiters seemed indifferent to providing a good dining experience. Their lack of care was evident and disappointing. Despite these issues, I must say that the food was good, and the venue itself is beautiful. Additionally, a more experienced waitress did apologise for the delays which was appreciated, but it wasn't enough to offset the overall poor service. Given the service we experienced, I'm hesitant to return or recommend At The Chapel. There are certainly areas that need improvement to match the quality of the food and the venue.

We had an amazing lunch at At the Chapel. The pizza is much better than even the photos indicate! The Diavola is out of this world. They have a special lager that is extremely light - my partner tells me the most difficult kinds of lagers to brew - however if you don't like a very light lager perhaps opt for something else! The only little downside was that the waitstaff seemed annoyed at us when we made some reasonable requests (a dip for our pizza) so that is where I have dropped a star for service. Thank you for overall a great time!

The only thing was some light bulbs where out in the room and no water provided albeit the moment I informed the staff about the water they couldn't bring it quick enough fo us and a bowl for our dogs thankfully. This place never fails to disappoint. There is so much hype about The Chapel that I thought past experiences were just unlucky one offs but sadly they are consistently lacking. We find the staff a bit ' precious ' and you can't have a burger cooked to your liking due to health and safety. I've never heard that one before! Aside from an overcooked, cold, dry burger, the menu and food was ordinary although some members of our party of 8 said the pizzas were nice. Shan't bother giving The Chapel another 'benefit of the doubt' visit.

I cannot tell you how disappointed I was, your restaurant was dirty, we were shown to a table uncleaned and covered in debris, we were completely ignored and it took twenty minutes to get someone to take our order. No one came and asked if we would like more coffee, so eventually we decided to leave. We paid and left with such disappointment. Your cloakrooms were appalling, two loos not flushing and untidy. 1.Dreadful food I had the cervice for a starter. This was swimming, if not drowned in a very acidic grapefruit juice. If that wasn't poor enough, it was very annihilated, by a covering of hot pepper. The portion size was shockingly small. I informed our waiter of my displeasure, to which he responded saying he would give my feedback to the "chef". Next came my main course. Skate wing. Well the whole fish must have been very small, because I have never had such a small piece of skate. It was overcooked, and served with a very small piece of white salsify, and cauliflower, cunningly disguised. The prawn and butter sauce was cloying. The side of skinny fries, were far from skinny, overcooked and dried up. The broccoli was okay, but the accompanying sauce was awful. 2 poor service A very perfunctory foh welcome. The restaurant was cold. Our table was in a corner, which made it difficult to serve us. The menus were in one pile, with no special menus, and no drinks menu. The table itself looked past its best and given a cursory wipe over, in preparation for customers. I received no feedback regarding my dissatisfaction with my starter. The bill gave no adjustment either. A truly terrible food experience. It is severely overpriced, and not even "reassuringly expensive".

The service was good, even though the restaurant was quite busy. The restaurant is impressive in that it is in a former chapel with high ceilings and large windows and an impressive central light fitting. I did, though, think that the white paint on the walls made it feel quite austere. The real pizza oven was a nice touch.

We were hoping to have a lovely lunch even though we knew it would be a little pricey. The reality was that the whole experience was extremely disappointing. The entrance was chaotic, unfriendly and unwelcoming. The decor felt really uninspiring and we had to work hard to get served. Whilst we waited for the menus we were given a bottle of tepid tap water. Not a great start! The staff were totally inattentive and I think we were finally served by the owner who seemed pre-occupied and uninterested! The French onion soup was a bowl of tasteless mush that looked like it had given up the Will to live!and the burrito dish was just bland and uninteresting. The one flat white coffee was great! For this experience we paid £26.18 which included £2.38 of non-agreed service charge! I really hope the owners take note of this review. We entered At the Chapel really expecting to have a lovely meal and experience. We left feeling ripped off. The final insult was when I used the ladies and non of the toilet doors actually locked! Unsurprisingly we won’t be back. Two minutes further down the road we found a lovely cafe/ bookshop for coffee and cake. The whole experience was vastly better and much more realistically priced!
