Just returned from a weekend away spending two nights at the Crown and Victoria Inn with my wife and friends. I must say that from arrival to departure the hospitality we received was second to none. A warm welcome from the owner Surinder ensured we immediately felt at home. Our bedroom was modern and tastefully decorated and I must say the bed was so comfortable I didn't really want to get up in the morning. A drink in the spacious modern lounge with roaring log fire prior to our evening meal was relaxing. Surinder had emailed the menu prior to arrival so we didn't need to deliberate too long before making a choice. The chef was Surinder's daughter Safia and son Arun served at the table. Great quality food and I must say my choice of Tamarind chicken was so tasty and delicious as was my wife's fish and chips. Breakfast was continental and plentiful, fruit, croissants, cereal etc. We can thoroughly recommend, a great place to stay. We will return.

Its been a while that we have been to the Crown & Victoria and were very impressed with the the warm welcome we were given. we popped in for lunch and had a feshly prepared and cooked Feta and Tomato Tart as a starter, which was light delicious and flavoursome. This was followed by a powmans lunch. Love;y ham, cheese fresh baked bread and accompanied by chutney and a chilli condiment which had a certain kick that complimented the plowmans. Beware though it does have a lovely kick to it. Will certainly visit again. Thank you for the lovely service and hospitality.

Went for a weekend stay which included the pop up restaurant Saturday night. My wife had arranged the trip with the hosts who greeted us like long lost family. What lovely talented people! They went above and beyond to give us an excellent stay. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was served in front of a roaring log fire. The meal on the Saturday night was great fun with a fantastic atmosphere. All the people on our table thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Punjabi food and the evening and said they’d be coming back for various other events coming up. All in all a great experience that we’d highly recommend and will be coming back for more of. Mister the dog is super friendly too.

Went there for “lunch”. Lunch consists of several sandwiches/baguettes. That’s it! That wouldn’t be so bad but 2 tuna mayo baguettes a few crisps and a beer and soda over £25! This used to be a great pub with great food, but obviously whoever has taken it over has more interest in making it an events venue. This being the case and that they can’t find any staff should be made clear if bothering to open for lunch. Couple in front of us declined to stay - I wish we’d done the same. There is no atmosphere at all. Shame as it’s a beautiful old pub we definitely won’t be going again

Visited following a walk around the beautiful Tintinhull Gardens. We were very disappointed both in the drinks that were available and the very limited variety of food that was available. We were a party of 4 and 3 of us had sandwiches which were just OK but at £10 per sandwich we would have expected something better than ok. The other person had a ‘ploughman’s’ again very disappointing. We didn’t have cake as that was an extortionate price too. We understand that the owner of the establishment has recently changed so hopefully it may improve.

We had a 7 night stay at The Crown and Victoria and had a thoroughly good time. The 2 couples that run the inn were friendly, hospitable and in fact went out of their way to be helpful. We had a good size room with plenty of storage space and a comfy bed. The en suite was spacious with a large shower area. Everywhere was very clean. The food was very good and all the staff were attentive. The inn was well used by the local community which is always nice to see. There is a very large well maintained garden with lots of tables, some with large gazebos over them. All together a very well run establishment.

We have stayed in the village many times and popped to this pub for drinks and food several times over the last 3 years. We always felt that with a great location, and monopoly on the village that they should always be busy. But somehow they just don’t quite get it right. This stay we dropped in early evening for a few drinks and takeaway food. Point blank refused food, which is of course ok if presented with some kind of apology, grace and maybe an offer of a drink. The gent at the desk was disgraceful as the first person you meet on entering. Utterly, utterly rude and dismissive. The pub was deserted, which baffled us further! It’s really the very last chance I’m prepared to make here - simply hoping my next visit will have more shine or lustre isn’t enough. Shame. This could be a great pub, but they are missing a trick I’m afraid.

We were travelling onto Cornwall and looking for a pits stop on the way. Our decision where was made for us as our little campervan broke down and we limped into the Crown and Victoria, where we called breakdown assistance and had a meal while we waited. The food was excellent, staff and service brilliant, and the management were kind, welcoming, and friendly, even allowing us to sleep in our van in the car park overnight, with access to water, which we really appreciated as we had our puppy with us and the weather was very hot.The interior was spotless and attractive with a good sized car park and large pleasant garden with plenty of seating and gazebos.Tintinhull is a pretty village, has a National Trust Garden, and access to good footpaths for dogwalking, and brilliantly positioned near the A303.Gutted I couldn't sample the beer, but intend to return and would wholeheartedly recommend a visit.

Our intention was to eat outside under the gazebo but after a long hot spell, weather definitely cooler so we opted to go in.That was no problem to the hosts and we were warmly welcomed.I chose tuna steak with a roasted veg risotto from the specials board. It was absolutely delicious, the risotto was so tasty and the tuna tender. Apparently it was a new dish that day and definitely a winner. Friends had the burger, fish and chips and from the specials board a fish parcel. Very generous portions and all thoroughly enjoyed.Couldn't resist a gluten free sticky toffee pudding, didn't need it but such a treat.Looking forward to meeting our friends there again, almost a halfway point for us and worth the trip!

Our room looked over the garden and everything you would expect was there and comfortable. The food was a real treat with a lunch and two dinners. The drinks were reasonably priced and there was a good choice of beers and four ciders. The wine list was extensive but we found the house range good value at £17.95. The bar was frequented by friendly locals who we chatted with. A special treat was greeting Monty, a friendly customer's dachshund and not forgetting the four pigs corralled at the back of the garden. Oh dear…we came to the Crown and Victoria on Monday evening for dinner and were very disappointed . The people were really, nice but the food itself was not good enough. My wife had the pork fillet and when it came to the table, the cream sauce was congealed, the runner beans were grey in colour and the roasted vegetables were wrinkly. I had a ham and mushroom tagliatelle and it was OK, but some of the pasta was chewy and had fused like it does when you reheat it. I’ve eaten better. Looking at the other complimentary reviews on TripAdvisor, I can only assume we were unlucky….chef’s night off perhaps? The food certainly looked re-heated. We got some drinks and were shown to our pre-booked table, lucky we did book as it was a busy Sunday lunch. Our order taken, 2 camembert served with fresh bread and cranberry sauce and 1 soup and for mains 1 fish and chips, 2 roast lamb and a pumpkin wellington. All the food arrived hot, on hot plates, was of good quality and you certainly couldn't complain about the quantity. The portions were huge, I had camembert to start and the lamb for mains and could not manage a dessert. My wife and our friends did, 2 fruit Pavlova and a bread and butter pudding. Good beer (Otter) and a decent bottle of Sauvignon Blanc completed the meal. A great lunch, thanks to the staff of the C & V

We visited The Crown and Victoria pub for Sunday lunch. We were at once impressed by the friendly, relaxed ambience and smart surroundings. We sat inside due to slightly chilly weather but the exterior looked impressive too. We were impressed by the efficiency and friendliness of all the staff that we came across. The food portions were enormous, so if you're going for lunch, I would recommend a light breakfast! My husband and enjoyed a traditional roast beef, with all the trimmings, whilst I went for one of three vegetarian options which was couscous filled peppers. I would say that the latter was rather dry and bland, so perhaps a little more work needs to be done on vegetarian and vegan menu. However, the desserts-bread and butter pudding, fruit crumble (both with lashings of custard) and cheesecake with fruit compote were absolutely to die for. We would definitely recommend this delightful traditional country pub.

We worked closely Mark and team over the months leading up to the big day, focusing on the bespoke menu, wines and the tailored service that we wanted. We took over the pub for the weekend, booking all rooms, put up a huge marquee in the garden, set off fireworks, returned on Sunday morning for breakfast and none of this phased them! The food was excellent and people are still commenting on it today, 3 weeks after the big day. Can not recommend this place more highly. 100% happy. And a huge thank u to mark and his crew for a totally beautiful day x

I'd heard great things about the food at this pub so we visited on a Friday evening. The food was nice but it was expensive and the portion sizes were small especially considering the price, fish and chips £15. We wont be going again as don't consider it value for money.

Booked lunch for four for 13.00 knowing it could be the middle of a busy serving period. There were five tables full - good sign. Ambiance good as well. The service was friendly, prompt and efficient. Sufficiently varied menu with an additional specials board. Food was served hot and the four different courses chosen were all of a good standard of cuisine and with generous portions: two separate dishes of mixed vegetables were spot on. Certainly nothing to fault. They say, 'Continuity is the key.' Quite right. And the proof? We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious lunch in this delightful establishment. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was a good selection on the menu with more to choose from on the specials board. With the log fire in the background and other diners enjoying their meals, all helped to create a relaxed atmosphere.

This is a very unprepossessing looking venue from the outside but don't let that fool you. The interior is a bit old-fashioned mixed with Arts and Crafts style but roomy and comfortable. The landlord and his wife are really lovely. What I particularly liked was the fact that there is a chalk board next to the bar telling you who the staff are at any time! Your Chef, server etc...what a lovely touch.

Well where to start. My meal was an absolute catastrophe. We went as a family having rebooked some 2 months in advance. My starter the scallops black pudding and crispy bacon had been keep warm for far too long, this was followed by the Somerset turkey which was for want off a better description thrown on the plate with vegetables, and had been subject to the same warming, especially the roast potatoes which had the appearance and texture of blackened cardboard, most of the plate was unedable and was returned with comments to the serving staff. The roulade looked as if it were shop bought and the champagne sorbet was described as Mango/Champagne. I was brought two both were defrosting and sitting in puddles. A ramekin of Dophenoise potatoes were served to my daughter in law with burnt on black runs down the side of the Ramekin. Many of my party complained about parts of the dishes they were served, and at £75 a head this was a sad disappointment as we have used the Crown and Victoria over the years and always had good service. We were offered a reduction of £10 a head for 6 of the elements, but felt the whole meal was poorly presented and cooked, many of our party didn't want to raise a fuss so we accepted a £60 deduction from a £825 bill. Would we return, not sure but no at this moment of writing.

Christmas Day @£75 pp. 4 of us, we were guests of our friends. 15 mins at the bar too get a drink.. seated in the bar area not even the restaurant area. Starter for 3 on time, starter for Coeliac took an additional 10 minutes as the starter brought out for me contained wheat containing bread.. 45 minutes after starter finished our main course arrived.. wish I had ordered the beef as the portion was plentiful even with a burnt Yorkshire pudding.. 3 of us had the Turkey dinner.. served luke warm, contained, 1 slice of breast turkey on 2 of ours and filled out with pulled leg by the looks of it, 2 roast potatoes, other had 2 small breasts of turkey.. all had pigs in blankets, 2 had rock hard stuffing. None for the Coeliac and no replacement.. the gravy was so thin with no taste.. let’s talk about the dessert.. very small portions of Xmas pudding with Luke warm custard. Lemon roulade looked as if it had been left out for the last hour of service...

We visited today, 25/12, for a delicious 5 course Christmas meal and it was cooked and presented to perfection and really tasty. We had scallops, black pudding and crispy bacon to start, champagne sorbet, turkey and beef and then Christmas pudding, chocolate brownie and roulade to finish between us followed by coffee and tiffin. Good selection of drinks, excellent wine list and very friendly staff and service. We will definitely be back and Christmas at the crown and big will become a regular thing for us and we will doubtless return throughout the year also. Superb!

Although we've lived in the area for many years this was our first visit and we were not disappointed. Although the menu was not extensive compared to some restaurants the options were interesting and the food delicious. Veg were cooked to perfection and plentiful. The staff were excellent and did not hover or pressure us for our order - very relaxing atmosphere with a cosy log fire burning. Will definitely eat there again.

On my way from Dover to Minehead I passed the little village of Tintinhull along the A303. I fancied a good meal and followed the signpost that directed me to this nice country Inn. I had a great Roast Beef with the usual trimmings. Lovely meat , great fresh vegetables, roast potatoes and the Yorkshire Pudding without which a Roast Beef wouldn't be complete. Had a fine pint of real ale to go with the meal. An address to keep in mind when driving down the A303. It is signposted and it is your best chance of finding a good meal, there's not much else along that stretch of the A303.

Food was very good and what you would expect to pay out in the sticks where there is not much competition , the atmosphere was awful ! it was a quiet evening and you could hear a pin drop , no background music with the only sound coming from the pub telephone that rang numerous times with a very loud and shrill ringtone , there were 3 staff in the pub 2 young people that were very efficient along with an older lady who gave you the impression that she didn't want you in there ! she could barely say cheerio when we left !! Wont be back .

First time visiting this establishment for lunch, seated in a quiet section of the restaurant and told our order would be taken, we saw other diners arriving and being seated nearby. Then the server took their orders leaving us wondering if we were invisible. I then went to the gents toilet and as I returned to our table aI reminded the guy doing the tables that we hadn't ordered yet. When the food arrived a 14 or 15 year old little girl served us with our meals and asked if we would like anything else to go with our roasts so I said yes please the vegetables- she came back from the kitchen with a small dish of veg which consisted of 2 pieces of broccoli 2 pieces of cali a bit of cabbage and a few carrots for the two of us.Just as well we aren't big eaters, even though it was quite tasty it was over priced at £13.95 each for such a small lunch.

Stayed here a few times as it is such a nice place. The people are friendly. Food is scrummy and good value (as is the booze!). Rooms are comfy (not full hotel standard but you are staying at a pub). Breakfast is freshly cooked, and includes juices, tea/fresh coffee and cereals. Garden is lovely and beautifully kept. All in all a good stay and we will be back.

Popped in on the off chance of a late lunch and were delighted with our food and the convivial environment. Staff were courteous and prolifically apologetic about how busy they were. Food arrived within their suggested delay time and was delicious- no need for apologies for the delay when it was clear that it had been lovingly freshly prepped and the surroundings are so pretty and peaceful. Perfect place to let the stress of the day and forthcoming journey north melt away.

We went for dinner last night. The starter and pudding were ok. However the main course was horrible. It was under seasoned, with a split watery sauce from frozen prawns! We won't be going back for dinner. The quality of cooking and produce used just isn't good enough.
