The Hut in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Great place , booked for lunch was not disappointed. Food great , welcome great & waiter was extremely nice ( & funny ) . There were 5 in our party & each meal was perfect with a swift service & certainly with a smile ( unusual sadly to say these days ) would definitely go back .

We have been coming here annually for the view and casual setting (sand, kids, dogs) and have previously had an OK experience. Sadly this year was very different. Glasswear was dirty (my water glass still had some spicy sticky food from a previous customer on the rim - and I tasted it before I realised, uugghh!) and food portions were minute and disappointing. The crab linguine, although tasty was less than what I would consider a starter size and cost 30 pounds. 3 small portions of mussels - one was intensly gritty, one had virtually no sauce and the other all sauce. They came with a small portion of fries but no bread - we asked for some bread and were brought one packet slice of white bread between three of us!! In previous years we would have had a couple of drinks and dessert but we were so disappointed we left after only 45 minutes. I know the industry has been hard hit but some of these issues are unforgivable and sadly we will never return.

The beach view was great and the service was fine. The food however was disappointing. Paying £30 per portion for crab linguine, you’d expect something special. Unfortunately it was too oily and the portion size was frankly a joke. We left hungry!

A very wet day necessitated the need to go get lunch by the sea & we stumbled upon this place. Unassuming nestled in next to The Watergate Bay Hotel this is not the poor relation in any shape or form. On entering the whole Ambience is relaxed, warm & welcoming with stunning views. My Husband & I went for lunch with our 2 Springer spaniels & I have to say what an amazing experience. Focaccia to start fresh …followed by Fish & Chips the batter was so light again a fresh option with curry & tartar sauce on the side …just enough room for dessert lemon curd pavlova lovely and fresh & HM crème brûlée …washed down with a decent large glass of Chardonnay well worth the price. If you are looking for somewhere not overly expensive, great views charming staff this is the place to visit …hoping this is not the last time we visit …the 4 legged friends throughly enjoyed the beach for a leg stretch having been very patient while we ate.

You must have breakfast here. I had the best brekkie I’ve ever had this week at the Beach Hut — waffles with yoghurt and fruit (and I asked for some honey on the side which was gorgeous!). The views are incredible and we love this is a dog friendly restaurant - our Border Terrier/Pug loves the welcome in there. Thank you Team Beach Hut!

Wow! Grilled fish of the day comes drowned in a sea of oil, the fish was 93% bones and an absolute joke! Mussels were served without any sides and when we requested some bread it took ages to come out. Honestly, stop pretending to be something fancy and serve decent food without weird interpretations. All in all: don’t bother.

Second time at this beautiful restaurant, this time celebrating our engagement. Staff are amazing, can’t do enough for you, food is beautiful & the views are stunning! We will definitely be back again & we look forward to it! Thank you xx

Very poor service I ordered two teas and asked for the tea bag to be left out of one of them. They arrived with tea bags in both. When I told the waiter about this (twice) he bought me a saucer to put the tea bag on. At this point I gave up. Needless to say we will not be returning.

We ate here for dinner. People kept going through end slide door leaving it open with a freezing draft. I had to get up and close it 3 tomes as staff did nothing. We ordered fish and chips £19 each and what came was an oven ready meal you could get from a supermarket for £3. Not nice. Batter all soft and chips horrid. Overpriced cashing in on view

A beautiful location, a fabulous restaurant and a sunny day what could go wrong? We were seated in an outside conservatory filled with dogs and dog mats everywhere, when we got the menu’s we were surprised to see alot of very bizarre ingredients such as malted milk, carob syrups, massala beans and lard butter… why try to change something that is so traditionally perfect in order to try and satisfy a small amount of customers. The food came and unfortunately as expected, the masala beans were inedible, carob syrup vile to taste, waffles tasteless, butter uninspiring and bacon as close to dry as the sand on the beach. £90 for 4 breakfast and 4 juices and a service charge snuck onto the bill without warning… 1 good thing we had to say about the experience is that the juice was lovely, but not a reason to return

Great location and good sea views. Tea and latte’s were good. However the square scones both disintegrated to a sand like texture with a similar taste. It’s the first scone I’ve eaten with a tea spoon. Impossible to spread the jam or cream. But the best bit was telling the staff how bad they were and getting the full bill and a service charge. We won’t be back. Unless your want to render a wall with a scone mix don’t bother.

Near 2 hour walk from Fistral beach and well worth it ! Part of the Watergate Hotel, down by the beach , with incrdible views. Busy for late lunch, staff very attentive and food some of the best we had on our break - certainly better than some of the more prominent restaurants on these pages. Crab linguine excellent, same for mussels, and tasty burgers and fish and chips, with excellent curry sauce. Overall relaxed meal and drinks in a superb location. Bus stop back to Newquay outside hotel Best place we went to all break, thoroughly recommnended.

Well positioned overlooking beach with plenty of paid for parking nearby. Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout our visit. Food quality was high, portion sizes generous and prices reasonable given location. Dog friendly too.

Expensive even for Cornwall and the food is average at best. The atmosphere and location get it 3 stars, would not recommend for food.

We’ve visited The Beach Hut so many times for either meals or a warm drink after beach walks & have always loved it! I’ve never had a bad experience here until today… After having a lovely breakfast & some coffees, we asked for the bill. The waiter brought over the machine ready to go but he had chosen to add on a service fee, we weren’t asked or told about it. It’s never happened before & usually we leave a tip after paying which would be more than the service fee he added on. Whilst the views, food and service were good (as always)….we felt it was very sneaky to add a service charge onto the bill & only noticed it after tapping our card to pay. Leaving an unfortunate bit of distrust for one of our local spots.

We stopped for a coffee and were welcomed by friendly staff. Our table was by the window and overlooked the beach and the sea. Coffee was great too!

The best thing about this place is the location, but the food and prices were disappointing. The mussels were the most expensive we'd had in Cornwall (& we live in the county) and a small portion and didn't even come with fries. The fish and chips had no mushy pease in sight, just a curry sauce which seemed weird, and the batter was oily, couldn't eat it. While the grilled fish of the day (Hake) was swimming in a buttery sauce, and again no vegetables. Worst meal we've had in a while.

We came here first for lunch and we knew the food prices were a little high, but were happy to pay as the view was good. When it came time to pay, the waitress brought over the card machine and accepted payment, however later I had realised that the amount was higher than the cost of food/drinks. A service charge had been added without consent and there was no mention of this on the menu. We came back later for dinner (we had already made a booking weeks prior), and again, the card machine came but this time was left on the table while the waitress walked away. At least this time round I could see the service charge on the card machine's display. I had to flag down a waitress and ask for the service charge to be removed. To be fair to the waitress, she obliged and when I said it was sneaky to add on a service charge without consent she said "I'm sorry, we don't do that where I'm from" - so the staff are aware it's happening and have a conscience.. I make a point of not revisiting places that engage in such predatory practices to try and squeeze every last penny out of guests who are either unaware of additional fees being added, or are too polite to ask for them to be removed. What happened to optionally leaving a tip?! It's really not acceptable and left a sour taste in our mouths after an otherwise lovely stay at the Hotel. If we come back to Watergate Bay we will be avoiding the Beach Hut. In summary, great view, OK food, high prices, and sneaky service charge.

Been going here for years and always been wonderful food however my friend and I went yesterday and we did not have the same experience. We were rushed for food, ours starters arrived before we had our wine and our mains came out whilst we were still eating our starters. We asked if we could wait to finish and I have a small break. The food then came pretty much as the starters were cleared and the mains had just been waiting on the pass for 10 minutes. £30 for a a small bowl of Luke warm oily crab pasta is just extortionate. Quite disappointing.

The staff was very nice and excellent service from the caravela beach resort the ambience is very good and Niraj has suggested the food and Shani has making the Cocktail the cocktail is good and now some staff mentioned the Asuanial,Jemi, Mrinmoy, sapoon,nitesh,Tamil,Rajeev Really it's a excellent caravela beach resort.

Went here as part of an away weekend to celebrate the wife's birthday. . We had pre-booked a table for an evening dinner meal and weren't disappointed in any way. The service - from the start to the finish - was outstanding. All staff present were both courteous, cheerful and exceptionally helpful. Probably the most attentive service I've witnessed for many years. The food was excellently cooked and presented. More appropriately it tasted great too! The place looks fairly unprepossessing from the outside but within it's a different matter. I cannot recommend this venue strongly enough; a most superb evening the memory of which will last a long while.

First of all location is amazing and front of house staff were friendly. We had a goats cheese salad and a chick pea curry stew. The salad was really a strong blue cheese on toast with some salad alongside. The curry was tasty but literally just a bowl of chick peas and some bread. I asked for mango chutney but after checking with the chef I was told that they only served it on a Friday! Come on guys you have a jar of chutney but you’ll only open it on a Friday? I spent over £50 for this plus 3 slices of focaccia and a couple of halves of lager, don’t be petty, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth and that’s not want I want at a restaurant.

Ordered goats cheese salad. Sounded lovely in the description. It was essentially a few bits of BLUE cheese (didn’t taste like goats) placed on top of a piece of toast…. And next to a few lettuce leaves…. There was no chutney, no nuts (as per the menu description), and no other salad or dressing. The only taste I had was of blue cheese. It looked like a child had put it together tbh. Hugely disappointing and not cheap either at 16£….🤷‍♀️

Amazing birthday lunch here. Staff went above and beyond for us and made my birthday even more special! We had an amazing table sat looking over the beach, burger was the best I’ve ever had. Food & drink was lovely! Will definitely be back. Thank you guys ❤️

On our way home after a week in beautiful Cornwall we stopped at The Beach Hut for breakfast. So glad we did. Fabulous breakfast, quality ingredients cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and professional and even brought our dog a bowl of water. We will definitely be back.

Went for ‘lobster Friday’. Good food and good service. However, felt it was a little on the expensive side. That said it’s a lovely spot to have dinner and watch the sunset

What a disappointment after being recommended to go for lunch,we both ordered fish & Chips accompanied with curry sauce & Tartar sauce,well we chuckled at the size of the fish (incredibly Small ) the batter was so greasy it was not edible,wishy washy Curry sauce ( Tartar Sauce was nice) plenty of frozen Chips thou we both declined ..they staff were accommodating and very pet friendly ..sorry we never left a tip as we thought the food never justified it,the view was worth the £50 but free to see outside,shame this hotel owned Restaurant has been crossed off our dinning experience,we nearly booked the hotel sister restaurant for our evening dining..we both would not mind small portions if the food was as described..one to miss if you love quality food & love the wife ..shame with a beautiful view of the beach 😎

We’ve visited here a number of times over the years and always had a great experience. Food was excellent on our most recent visit and service from Christian was exceptional.

I have visited the beach hut whenever I’ve visited Watergate bay over the years since it was a much more basic but lovely restaurant with amazing food on the beach. Unfortunately while the restaurant looks great the food is not good at all and the staff don’t seem to care if their guests are happy. Out of our group of 7 sadly no one enjoyed their meals but stupidly we felt too polite to say. My own dish a goats cheese salad was served on burnt toast , the ‘salad’ was just lettuce leaves. I feel the restaurant has lost its passion and it’s now just trading off its location and being visited by tourists who won’t be relied on to return. Such a shame!
