Sehr sympathisches kleines Restaurant, geführt von jungen, motivierten Leuten. Schöne Speisekarte mit kreativen Gerichten. Angenehme Atmosphäre. Gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Leider nur kurze Öffnungszeiten.

Really impressed with this place - delicious food, friendly staff, quick service, nice ambience, couldn’t fault it. I would definitely go back. In fact, I did - took the family there the following night. It was busy but they managed to fit us in. Also tried to go at lunchtime but it was mobbed. Be prepared to wait - but it’s worth it!

Our food was great - a soup of the day, another dish and a chocolate peanut brownie (vegan, I believe.) All was very good, and our waitress and other staff were so nice & friendly. A pleasant place to get lunch between the sights of Skye!

This place is wonderful! The menu was varied with really good vegan and vegetarian offerings! I had the rice bowl with tofu which was absolutely delicious and my partner had a vegetarian breakfast wrap with haggis, which he said was brilliant. Good selection of drinks and good/quick service. There was a slight queue when we arrived, we hadn’t booked but were quickly seated and the meal was worth the wait!

We visited fairly late afternoon on Saturday afternoon when hot food service had finished, so just cake available. It felt a bit disorganised, but the tea was ok, the scones and cake were excellent. A useful stopping off point for refreshments!

In Staffin with friends for the annual triathlon, one of our party pre-booked The Hungry Gull for Friday evening (I just made it in time & glad I did). The food was excellent and reasonably-priced, while there is a large selection of Black Isle beers, two on draught and more in cans (refrigerated). We were a party of 7 and the service was excellent. The staff were very busy, but always pleasant and attentive. Portions were substantial and there was a reasonable selection of Vegetarian; Vegan and Gluten-free options, too. We enjoyed it so much, we re-booked for the following evening and will happily call in on future visits.

After walking around the Fairy Glen and hiking the Quiraing, we were exhausted and hungry to put it mildly. Think legs shaking from fatigue. This friendly cafe came to our rescue. We had the best hamburgers we found in Scotland, period. Their hand cut chips (fries) were also appreciated. My husband had a draught pint which hit the spot. The staff was quick and organized. I have no photos as I was unable to lift my camera up.

We got there by accident, as we were using the nearby shop. We were very pleased by the initial customer service, as they let us use the toliet before they opened, so we decided to wait and stay for food. I am afraid there might be no words at any language to describe how great our experience was. Lovely indie interior made out of some random stuff, which surprisingly works together very well. All members of staff were very friendly, helpful, nice and professional. We ordered the special which was veg haggis on toast, and grilled pork belly. Both dishes came beautifully presented. Quality was stunning (great sour dough) and the taste was too die for. If there is heaven and they have food, I hope it tastes like In the hungry gull! We were so impressed, that at the end we decided to also spent a pretty penny and get us 3 isle of skye prints.

There weren't many options for eating out around Staffin and we were only sorry we hadn't found the Hungry Gull sooner! It's joined onto the village store and we didn't see when we went to the shop on the first day of our holiday. Very friendly service, it looked like a varied and inventive menu and as a vegetarian I was spoiled for choice! Nice bright eating area, there was alcohol on offer, and a cosy, friendly atmosphere. I had the vegetarian haggis bites - absolutely lovely, haggis is something I don't normally get to enjoy anymore since I went vegetarian. The chef isn't just paying lip service to offering vegetarian and vegan meals - they are doing it with style and with care. If / when we go back to Skye, we'll definitely be calling in at the Hungry Gull again. Marvellous.

This is an unassuming café which adjoins a local shop and forms part of a local community resource. As such is easily overlooked and easy to drive by if you don’t know its there, despite being on the main Portree road (well, we nearly missed it anyway!). Parking is ample. The cafe is spacious, the menu is varied, is vegetarian and vegan friendly, service is good and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. We only stopped for a coffee and some cake (they looked great) but got lured into lunch when we’d seen the quality of the food. Yes, we only had toasties, but they were large, tasty and filling – the special haggis and cheese toastie was a triumph! It’s a great place to stop for a relaxing drink. Judging by our experience, together with all the full tables, a great place to eat also. Recommended

Thought we'd grab a quick lunch and ended up with the best meal we've had in a week in Scotland. I can't believe I'm saying this about toasties, but they were amazing. We had both the Reuben and grilled cheese, and they were so incredibly flavorful. It's been hot this week, and this was the first time we saw iced coffee and iced Chai. The staff was great, even under-staffed and running hard. Fully recommend!

Proper home cooking made with passion and care and quite simply the best scotch eggs I ever ate. Was at a local wedding and the Hungry gull catered for the evening and a brunch the next day. Beautifully presented with hand written cards of the simply delightful choices with a smoked kedgeree standing out and the sweets also were beautifully put together and tasted divine. Staffin should be proud of this place and the staff who worked so hard and could not have been nicer. Particularly impressed with the work ethic of the young staff who went above and beyond the call of duty to make us all feel welcome . If you are passing through Staffin they are in the community hall and so very much worth a visit. Cracking cup of coffee and a good pint. Thank you all very much. Slainte

We stayed at Taigh Ailean for our trip to Skye. We also had the opportunity to eat dinner there (Breakfast was included with our stay.) The dinner was so delicious! The view is lovely as you can see the loch from the windows of the bar. All the staff is fantastic and so friendly! I had a great dinner and I would describe it, but the menu changes to suit what is in season and available from the sea. Whatever you get, I guarantee it will be the best! Make sure you call ahead and get a reservation as it fills up quickly. I know that they also have live music, which would be great, but we didn't have any while we were there.

Agree with the other reviews. This is an unlikely place to find at the end of the world. We felt welcomed and in the main enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the cost for the 2 of us. £200 for a snack, breakfast, plate of curry and a bunkhouse bed with no shower and a outside toilet seemed breathtaking expensive. To put this into perspective, we go to a nice hotel each year for a winter break, that's more than we pay per day at the hotel with vastly more civilized amenities. I do understand there are logistics involved at Cape wrath. However for an 'ordinary' local Scottish person I'd be looking to stay at sandwood bay and make a lunch trip to the cafe as I simply can't justify the cost/value. However, it is altogether improbably situated and a must experience if you are doing a long walk. Just be prepae your expectations.

Your restaurant came highly recommended and the food and wine was absolutely superb. Unfortunately this is where the great experience ended as we have never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a restaurant by the people serving us, to the point that we couldn't wait to pay the bill and leave! We were the first table in the evening at 5pm and were seated right by the bar but we struggled to get eye contact with the staff who were either chatting behind the bar or staring into space. At no point did they ask us if everything was ok or if we wanted another drink. We tried to engage them in some chatter when they served us but to no avail. I don't know if in someway we offended them but we really could not work out what we had done wrong to be treated this way. Unfortunately we will not be returning, which is a shame as the food is excellent. Fortunately our evening was not completely spoiled as a visit to the local community centre in Nairn found us invited to a Ceilidh and a very warm welcome and fun evening.
