The Hummingbird Cafe in East Riding of Yorkshire

Horrendous doesn’t even begin to explain. Awful bought in food and terrible service. Owner doesn’t care in the slightest.

Visited for Sunday lunch. A party of 4 To start we had a smaller than average prawn cocktail which was very disappointing, both the prawns and the sauce where just tasteless. For the main course there was a choice of belly pork, roast sirloin of beef or half a roast chicken, we all went for the roast sirloin which was very nice but unfortunately was again served only Luke warm, this was accompanied by a nice selection of vegetables which again disappointingly was only just warm when they arrived at the table despite the dishes they was served in being red hot (god knows how they managed that). The deserts we chose where rice pudding which was nice and (would you believe hot ) rhubarb crumble which consisted of 3 x 2 inch pieces of rhubarb in a lot of watery juice no crumble topping at all and a little pot of cream. All washed down with 1 pt of beer and 3 cokes All in all a huge disappointment and definitely not worth the £160 Would we recommend this place...NO Would we re visit definitely not.

We popped in as we had not been before and we’re pleasantly surprised with their menu. It caters for all. I tried the wild mushrooms on sourdough, which was fabulous. My husband had the fish cakes which were excellent. Coffees were great and we even stayed to try their cakes which were lovely.

Probably the the best roast I’ve ever had, ever seen, ever heard of! Amazing welcoming and friendly staff

The English breakfast was absolutely delicious and my friend enjoyed the pancakes with smoked salmon. Great iced coffee too! Lovely little spot in Cottingham and staff were very welcoming 😊 Will definitely be coming again!

Took a friend for brunch. Menu has completely changed and nothing brunch at all. Dishes on offer were unusual and very pricey for a morning snack. Cheapest item was £10. Think a daytime menu rethink may be needed.

I didn't know what to expect but the food blew my expectations away. Really lovely food (I wish I had more food!). Although I am have no dietary requirements, there was a lot of veggie options and the food was beautiful. Really lovely atmosphere and just a real little gem!

First visit since the new takeover and menu, and I must say I was totally impressed! The service, as always was friendly, and prompt. We had the full English and the bubble and squeek with bacon and poached eggs. It was AMAZING! So full of flavour, beautifully presented and knowing that all the ingredients were locally sourced made it all the more special. The ethos of this restaurant is really appealing, knowing the staff are paid well and the food is local was a big draw. Will definitely be back again as everything on the menu needs testing 😋

Would highly recommend The Hummingbird Bistro it is without a doubt on par with Pipe and Glass. The quality of the food is exceptional. The atmosphere was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had the bread and miso butter, fish cake and pork belly starters, bubble and squeak and the corned beef hash. Couldn't fault anything. Really can't wait to return and try more dishes. Potential us amazing...but unfortunately this place will fail Like a light house make the place atmospheric The menu is unreadable....make the writing bigger not hard The food bland ...starter belly pork not good ..main course tasty but cold . This was my third visit. I have visited for just drinks, a Sunday roast, and brunch. Each time I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff, service is excellent. The food is delicious, top quality and beautifully presented. The Hummingbird is a real treat and I will be definitely be returning.

We booked last minute and we are very glad we did. From the minute we walked in we were given first class treatment. Everything was superb, the cocktails, the wine, the music, the ambience, the service and most definitely the food, we particularly enjoyed the warmed bread with miso butter and the new take on corned beef hash, but all the food was fabulous with gorgeous flavours. We were very very impressed and we will be back for sure!
