Popped in for lunch with my friend on 8th April. . Staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the off. We were served efficiently by both Lucy and another lovely young lady whose name we didn’t catch. The prawn pil pil was generous and delicious. Chicken pesto pasta, just as good. Lovely glass of Chardonnay too.

Lovely meal today with my daughter today, using their special menu for an early tea. We choose one starter and main and one main and dessert. The starter macaroni cheese balls was huge so we shared, lovely main and a great Lemon tart. The service from the young waitress was great, really attentive and friendly.

We booked a table online for 15.3.24 for 6pm (and confirmed it via the reminder link sent), we arrived for our table last night to be told that there was no booking for us. I purposely booked for 6pm as we had a show to attend at 7:30pm. I showed the member of staff confirmation of the email to show the booking had been confirmed to which she said ‘yes you may have that but I don’t have it on my side so unfortunately there is no table, but I can get you in if you wait 20minutes and get a drink at the bar’ My husband and I told the staff member that we could not wait that long as we had a show booking and she said well there’s nothing I can do and there was a wait on food. I was appalled by this service and then queried if I could have confirmation that my card would not be charged as I had used it to confirm my booking online. She told me that ‘ No it won’t be changed it’s a hold of £0 and it wasn’t even on her system so I wouldn’t be charged’ We were forced to leave after looking forward to a special occasion meal booked well in advance on 8.3.24 and could not get in anywhere else as such short notice. My card was charged £20 for a no show fee to a booking that we did show up but it was the management of the restaurant that had overbooked and not had our reservation on their system I informed the restaurant after attempting to contact them over 20 times via phone and being passed from employee to employee. I finally spoke to Connor the ‘General Manager’ and requested that I was refunded immediately but yet I am still waiting and being told inadequate information that ‘Open Table’ had processed a refund to which I did not believe so I contacted them myself to which clarified that the information the ‘manager’ passed on was false. On contacting Open Table they stated that this is not the case as the money is charged through the restaurant themselves as they do not take money it is the restaurant who have charged me. I emailed Connor back and had no response. We would not use The Hudson ever again as it is clearly ran by unprofessional staff who do not have ‘Customer Service’ at the forefront of the business.

Very badly cooked brunch - slow service - items came with things missing from the stated items on the menu - breakfast were burn - however the first aspect are the loud arrogant chefs who think it’s quite acceptable to swear. It’s an open kitchen so you have the pleasure of listening to them shout - swear whilst you’re trying to eat their poorly prepared food - I was really shocked as the actual building and decor is lovely . The waiters and waitresses are nice but they are also at the mercy of the boys club which n the kitchen - Will not be returning -

I just sent 3 days re-exploring my childhood city of Newcastle after many decades living further south. The hotel was so convenient and comfortable and really good value for money. The staff at breakfast were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast menu catered for every taste including several items which were cooked to order. If I am fortunate enough to visit Newcastle again I will certainly choose this hotlel.

Told there were no tables by reception, to then be told by the bartender to book online as they “always say that”. My mum has an allergy which was told to the waitress when ordering, for the food to then be brought out covered in cheese. We then asked for a fresh one and explained this to what I think was a manager. The whole manner of the staff is disgraceful and to put it bluntly, I think they could do with some retraining or quite frankly a whole new team. Icing on the cake was to be served the bill with service charged added on top - surely you would remove this based on the level of service given. Perhaps rather than standing at the reception desk bad mouthing guests, they could have a little bit of practice on retraining on allergen policy and procedures.

Unprofessional rude staff We’d booked a table at central oven shaker over the road however the noise was unbearable and so we ran across the road and found the Hudson quiet with plenty of spare tables. This should have been the red flags. We were shown to our table to then have a rude waiter come over and abruptly ‘tell us off’ and that we should never sit ourselves. The original waiter came over and apologized and explained she’d sat us down. No sincere apology given. We were sat directly under the air con unit. It was freezing and our friends were from Australia and found it even more uncomfortable. We’d asked if we could move to another of the empty tables to find this an inconvenience to the staff. Reluctantly they moved us. Service was far from attentive, slow and painful. Second round of drinks were ordered but never arrived. In the end we had to go over and ask for the bill to find the staff complaining about not having a break. Reading the reviews on TripAdvisor it seems our experience wasn’t a one off

We arrived at 11am with a sign outside stating brunch served from 10.30 to 14.30. The front part of the restaurant was completely empty when we first arrived, staff seen us arriving but completely ignored us. My wife went up to ask if we could get a table for some food, the staff went into the back to check and return stating they are not serving any breakfast or brunch today even with around 6 members of staff standing around doing nothing. I do not believe for a minute they are not serving food with all the staff around. The staff were rude and not very helpful. I would not recommend this place.

Ordered a black and blue burger which was smothered in English mustard which I’m allergic to, had no idea as it wasn’t on menu. I struggled and explained this when a check back came almost 10 minutes into our meal. Waitress winced and asked if I wanted a drink but it’s too late as I’ve had a bad reaction and now have swollen gums! Such ingredients should be clearly marked on menu as I would never have ordered it. Aim addition I explained at booking and on arrival that I have a black discount card due to my exquisite relationship with Above. This was acknowledged by waitress. Deliberately discussed the deal for 2 cocktails £12 with same waitress and ordered 2 Mojitos. The bill had 2 full price cocktails and when I queried this I was told I wouldn’t be able to get the 2 for one paying with black card. This was not explained earlier and if that was the case we would have ordered different cocktails. As I’d queried the bill the waitress passed us to the waiter to pay and had nothing more to do with us.

We stayed at the partner hotel linked to the restaurant, the county hotel. the staff in the hotel were absolutely lovely and couldn’t do more for us but when we went to the restaurant we felt like we were being judged a LOT. the servers were rude to us and we could hear them talking about us. they also got our order wrong twice, asked for a drink with no ice and ice got put in, which we didn’t say anything because it wasn’t a big deal and then asked for no spring onions on the starter and it came with spring onions so they clearly just didn’t care what we wanted. paid anyway because the food was good for the most part but just felt awkward the whole time we were sat there. especially when other older couples didn’t seem to be being treated the same way. we came to the hudson last time we stayed in newcastle about two years ago and loved it but will definitely not be returning again after that experience.

The food managed to be both bland and unpleasant - the culinary equivalent of a Neighbourhood Watch meeting. The sterile bar echoes with the shared anecdotes of the bar and waiting staff competing for who had the most bacchanalian night the previous evening - though all were tame and irritatingly shared when lift muzak would have been better. The service was slow with several mistakes on a simple order. I couldn’t comment on whether this was from temporary (the night before and all that) or permanent incompetence, but the general impression was redolent of the kind of multi layered conversations and actions one would usually find in a care home for the elderly and infirm. A ‘company policy’ is also in place that means that all refunds take 30 days and can only be issued by ‘head office’. In my experience, after waiting over 30 days and making several calls to be refunded with responses such as ‘there isn’t a manager in the hotel’, I still have not been refunded for food that didn’t arrive. As you are required to pay for food in advance - I can’t think why - I would imagine that most people would just give up and lose their money. There are many great places to eat in Newcastle, save yourself the hassle and go to anywhere but here.

In a nearly empty bar, I was required to pay for breakfast in advance. Of three dishes ordered, one was the wrong order and one didn't turn up. Following a wait of 30 mins after the one correct dish for the absent dish to arrive, we gave up and asked for the money for the absent dish only to be refunded. Appallingly, I was informed that it was ‘company policy’ to keep my money for 30 days and then refund me - just to reiterate, this was not a complaint about quality, this was a return of my money as the goods paid for had not been supplied. When I suggested that this was unsatisfactory, the bar manager became rude and adopted a kind of Gen Z victim status enraged that I would dare to question her decree - I should stress that at no point did I raise my voice, swear or insult her, I simply questioned this policy briefly. I have waited the 30 days before posting this so that I could accurately report that they haven’t refunded the money despite my being required to write my bank details down on a scrap of paper for this GDPR secure company policy to operate. I’ll just add that the food that did arrive wasn’t very good either.

about booking a table in this restaurant. I booked online for dinner on New Years Eve when staying in County Hotel. In fact dinner wasn’t available due to an event so booking was cancelled with staff on restaurant check in desk. We had to get a takeaway instead. No apology. The next day I was charged £40 to my credit card and despite 2 phone calls and 3 emails I haven’t had a refund. I was told I would be refunded on first call and when I chased it up weeks later I was told it could take up to a month. Still no refund. I should never have been charged in the first place as the website shouldn’t have let me book a table for dinner which wasn’t available. Shocking.

We regularly visit Hudson for food & have honestly never had a bad meal. We had an amazing Christmas lunch in 2022 so booked again for 2023, unfortunately it just wasn’t the same . The meal wasn’t hot & didn’t feel like it was fresh out of the oven. The staters were the biggest let down, soup was cold & crab really was missing something. Asked four times for a bread roll which is all it needed! I feel if a bread roll was served as standard for each person standard with the started it’d of saved an awful lot of the disappointment. We’ve been several times to Hudson & never had a bad experience so we will be back just not sure if it’ll be for Christmas Day Lunch

My wife and I went to The Hudson two nights in a row. The staff were very friendly and professional. We didnt have a booking and it was really busy but they fit us in. The food was excellent, great chefs! First night, we had lovely a mac and cheese and cauliflower starters, burgers for main, and were too full for dessert. We returned the following day for Sunday lunch and desserts, which were excellent and really tasty! Thank for a wonderful couple of days dining to all of the wonderful staff at the Hudson!

Terrible is an understatement! It began an okay experience with drinks order being taken by a wonderful waitress who was professional throughout. However, it was all down hill from here. After the waitress had taken my girlfriend and I’s order for food and handed it to the chef, he began to throw a shouting tantrum about how ridiculous our order was and how stupid we were for ordering a burger along with sliders as a starter to share between us. This was before the other chef came in, in which he refer to us as ‘fat pigs’ to him. Shocking he had shouted this across the near empty restaurant in clear earshot of us. After persuading my crying girlfriend to just ignore him and wait to see how the food is; we were presented with our starter which was adequate. This was then followed by two mains which were majorly either frozen or processed. The pair of us instantly grabbed our coats and got up to leave once we had finished our mains. Would not recommend and will never be back! *This is no reflection on the pleasant waiting staff*

I am truly saddened to write this review as my husband and I have come to the Hudson every year for our anniversary and usually stay at the hotel as well, although we didn’t have the time this year we decided we would still go for a meal from their festive menu which we have always loved. Straight away when we arrived (we arrived exactly 8 minutes late to our reservation as we couldn’t find parking) we never received a greeting or smile, just a stare from the young waitress at the till and I mentioned we had a table booked for two. She barely acknowledged me then asked an older waitress where she should seat us, and she replied “somewhere in the middle” and waved her hand toward the restaurant. Once we were sat down the waitress just left, didn’t ask if we wanted drinks or water. 2 minutes later the older waitress came to the table to ask if we were ready to order food… I replied we had just arrived and she just said “Okay” and left, again didn’t ask if we wanted any drinks. The younger waitress came back 15 minutes later to see if we wanted to order and we ordered some cocktails, tap water and starters and mains. Cocktails arrived 10 minutes later, food 10 minutes after that but the tap water never came. The cocktails were lovely, but our starters were another story. My husband ordered Mac and cheese bites and they were edible but a far cry from how nice they were last time we came. My soup tasted like a cup of salt was dumped in it and I only ate the buttered bread it came with. This is when we decided to cut our losses and leave to eat somewhere else and at least salvage some of the night. When a young man came to clear the starters we just asked to cancel our mains and we’d pay for what we had, no one bothered to ask what was the matter or if everything was ok they just brought the bill and we paid and left as soon as we could. We could see them whispering to each other and glaring at us from the pass. It just felt like we were not wanted there and I had never experienced anything like this before. There were only a few other tables in the restaurant, the table next to us sat finished with their dessert for 15 minutes before that was cleared and had to chase the waitress for their drinks because they'd forgot. They also had about 6 empty glasses just sitting at the table. No one seemed happy to be there and the vibe was off, unlike all the other times we’ve been before and when we’d brought friends we always enjoyed it but not sure we’ll be coming back after last night. Looking at recent reviews it seems we were not the only ones having terrible experiences recently and I just hope management listens and does something about this.

I booked a bottomless brunch for me and my friends on Boxing Day having looked at it on Instagram and Facebook etc the photos looked great I payed £200 for 5 people and when we got there the food came out what was meant to be a platter it was missing half of stuff advertised and looked nothing like the photos I raised this concern with staff who then told the chef in the kitchen who then stared us out the entire evening making us feel very uncomfortable swearing infront of us saying he can’t help if he doesn’t have any of the stuff which wasn’t my problem I payed for what was stated which we should get and if they haven’t got it they shouldn’t advertise it it’s false advertisement and me as the customer that is not my problem he then still carried on to swear throwing dishes across the counter that was to be brought to our table which is totally unacceptable and very rude I again raised this concern with a women on shift and she said he wasn’t doing it to us to which was a total lie as she then went and had a word with him after, I’ve emailed the Hudson and the issue has not been resolved as there trying to offer a free bottomless brunch again when I would never return again stay well away from here it’s vile, I have attached images of what is advertised and what we received is laughable and the ‘ cocktails’ were just juice and ice
