I went to the Hudson on Mother’s Day having read the menu the night before and was looking forward to having a meal that I can eat sensory wise as I have AFRID however when I went to order I was informed that they were only doing Sunday dinner and anything else on there online menu had to be pre ordered inspite of this being no where on there website I ordered a chicken roast as it was a big group and had been pre booked however I could only eat the plain mash and pigs in blankets which was a paid extra so without paying extra I would have only been able to have mash if you want to get something ring in advance to check it’s available because their website is in no way helpful especially for those who struggle with sensory issues when it comes to eating.

Went for an early meal on Friday night. Service was ok, there was only a few people there. Onto the food, the starters were tasty, had chicken skewers and king prawns in chilli and garlic. My wife had the penne pasta for main, she said is was tasty, the portion was massive. I had the Juicy burger and well that was a shame, I have had better burgers at a fun fair. The patties were obviously from a freezer and I did see they cooked them in an oven. They were not even good quality frozen burgers as they were rubbery. There was so much greasy cheese it just slopped out. Also they did not put any ketchup in. I asked for no tomatoes and heard the chef say to the waitress is that sauce or tomatoes, instead of asking they just left both out, they were going to put a pot on the side but forgot so I had to ask. We went there for nice meal, but was very disappointed in the quality of the burger, especially at the price. Next time make your own patty and use the grill, but we won’t be back.

Disappointing service from the beginning to the end for my Christmas meal with friends. No wine by the glass available, hardly any soft drinks and only the Christmas menu available even through when we booked all menus were available. Obviously understaffed as the waitress was telling us she'd had no time off and was tired ! The poor wait staff seemed embarrassed by the shambles that it was. The most disappointing thing is that they didn't take our £30 deposit off our bill. I contacted the Hudson the next morning and explained but despite several emails of promises they will refund me I still haven't received it. It's now been nearly seven weeks and too many excuses to why they haven't refunded me yet. It's really disgusting that they have kept our £30 deposit. The way that it has been dealt with has been so unprofessional! I will never return and advise anyone else not to visit unless they want to dine in a venue that has no drinks,alcohol or staff and steal £30 of your money !

Came here with work for our work christmas meal and drinks and what a disappointment. They didn't have any crackers for the table as they had an event which they needed them all for. They didn't have any prosecco available and no non alcoholic beer. The christmas meal we had pre ordered, we waited ages to be served. The food came out before our drinks and the food was below average. The festive burger was dry and just thrown together. The turkey dinner was awful with watery gravy and extremely dry turkey. The service was slow and the staff kept forgetting the drinks orders. I would not recommend this place for food. Overpriced and rubbish!

First time visiting yesterday with my friends for a festive catch up, and wow! three course meal £27.95, paid £10 deposit each when we booked which came off the bill, nachos to start with which were lovely and lots of them! Traditional turkey dinner which again was gorgeous and huge! finished with Eton mess, yummy! all the staff were so lovely, welcoming and friendly, also had a couple of cheeky cocktails as its Christmas, cherry bomb and a Hudson zombie, fabulous! £11.95 each which is standard really, but they do usually have 2 for £12 Mon till Fri, just not through December sadly, all my friends agreed we definitely visit again in the New Year.

I wouldn’t recommend The Hudson in Newcastle to anyone. We traveled over 200 miles for my mum’s 50th birthday, hoping for a special evening, but it turned out to be an absolute disaster. The service was shocking, the food was appalling, and the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. Management was nowhere to be seen or completely indifferent, and the kitchen staff spent more time on their phones or getting ready to leave (coats on!) than actually cooking. In fact, they were leaving before we even got our food! There was over an hour wait between courses, which only added to the frustration. The only positive part of the night was the young blonde-haired girl who served us. She was polite and did her best under the circumstances, but that’s not enough to save what was by far the worst dining experience we’ve had. Avoid at all costs—especially if you’re planning a special occasion.

Having previously always visited Hudsons as it was our go to bar for choice, service & atmosphere. In the past two years this has greatly been diminished. One for service in restuarant & bar, but this year only choice of red wine in bar were the two dearest options? Not only disappointing but unacceptable for a bar of this previous standard to be offering such a limited choice. Please sort this out.

lovely bar! great drinks menu and lovely staff. £11.95 for a half filled glass is a bit of a let down though! staff were very accommodating to this and as a bartender myself i understand they have specific measurements to follow but the man at the bar said it looked empty because it was supposed to be in a different glass, okay cool i totally get that but why not put it in the correct glassware so it looks fuller to the customer? also this is a margarita and there was no salt around the rim or anything! i’ve been here so many times before and the drinks and service have been amazing but i felt slightly let down this time, so like i said almost £12 for a half filled glass and no salt around the rim feels like a slight rip off. i hate to complain because ive only ever had good experiences here before this but maybe use the correct glasswear and it’s not like it wasn’t clean or you ran out of the correct glass because the bartender showed me which was the right one and there was quite a few which could’ve been used to avoid this. i will give the benefit of the doubt and will definitely return to the hudson but just wanted to give my feedback for future reference :)

Went in to hearing conversations of how people had waited over a hour for their food. This didn’t change for us as we ordered drinks and they eventually came 30 minutes later. The food wasn’t any quicker and everyone around us had the same problem not one table was happy with service or time things took. When paying the bill the bill was also wrong with another burger added on top? Won’t be back as there are cheaper options which give a much better experience!

Visited Friday 20th Sept 24 for dinner at 6pm.. we had made reservations and was seated by a pleasant young waitress. The restaurant was fairly quiet at this point. The food was absolutely amazing and would definitely recommend on this basis. However as the restaurant became increasingly busy the two waitresses were literally ran off their feet. I felt really sorry for them as some diners were getting short with them as they were seated at tables that hadn’t been cleaned, orders hadn’t been taken etc. in our case we couldn’t fault the food at all 10/10! But we got fed up waiting for our bill after 30 mins of asking for it and just went to the welcome station to pay. In all fairness the manager explained that staff had been sent to the hotel to support which left the restaurant short staffed.

My partner and I had the most wonderful meal in their beautiful restaurant on Thursday 12th September - enjoyed it so much - went back on Monday 16th. This was a vastly different experience - staff still very pleasant but we had to wait an hour for our meal due to kitchen staff overwhelmed - they had a bus party in earlier and no-one seemed to be coping - meal was cold and overdone and not the high standard we got the previous night. The staff acknowledged all the problems I've listed and our bill was reduced accordingly.

Hudson The food was good. The Chicken skewers were juicy and tasty. Unfortunately the belly pork wasn’t crispy - apart from that the roast was enjoyable. The staff seemed a little inexperienced. They had difficulty working the computer/till. There wasn’t a lot of passion for creating a great dining experience. What was lacking was a manager of the floor who could see what was going on. The staff needed some training and leadership. This would also have helped to lift the atmosphere - it all felt a little tired and as if people couldn’t be bothered. We have been here in the past and it was a lot better. There was great difficulty getting our bill which seemed a piece of fiction - it was more than I expected it to be but I just paid it as two of our party had a train to catch and we didn’t have time to wait.

Overall unimpressive… we waited ages for the bill and we were confused when the bill came because there was an unexpected charge of VAT which we weren’t aware of since we live in the UK (duh, VAT is usually added in the price and there fire doesn’t require the extra charge) the service overall wasn’t the best since we waited so long. I have been plenty before and have always enjoyed myself so this time was a disappointment… was also boiling in the restaurant which made it uncomfortable to have food

Was in Newcastle last week for an 8 day break and usually drink in Barluga on Grey Street but with the weather being ok to sit out used Hudson quite a few times; found the staff very pleasant the toilets nice and clean but the outside drinking area quite untidy tables not cleared or wiped chairs not tidied back to tables and rubbish on the floor, we called in on our last night (Sunday 21st July) on arrival all the chairs were leaned up against the tables and I thought the bar was closed but it wasn’t so I got drinks and sat outside, one of the staff came out a very nice lad called Thomas and I told him we liked the outside area but it wasn’t kept very clean and tidy and he didn’t know why all the chairs were leaned up, I said I didn’t like moaning but he said by bringing it to there attention is a good way of getting it “sorted” So in our few hours drinking Thomas tidied and wiped all the tables and chairs and another young lad came out and brushed all the floor; the area looked great, so well done lads…..

Visited tonight, as we are staying in the vermont hotel on the wine and dine package. This was one of the restaurants that we were able to use the wine and dine offer To be fair we were reluctant to return to the hudson as we have visited in Oct 2023, unfortunately on that visit although the meals were fine there was confusion on menus and dreadful service which after a few emails we did get some resolution However putting that visit down to a one off, tonight it was so different Greated at the restaurant with warmth . Menu on the wine and dine was a set 3 course menu with a glass of wine. Our main server George was such a genuine lovely guy, nothing to much trouble, he kept making sure we were OK and service was second to none There was also another young lad that brought out our main course ( sorry didn't catch your name) again was so polite and curtious Starter Nachos Main course Fish and chips Dessert None as couldn't move , and trust me I like a dessert Portions are big, so bring loose fitting clothing Couldn't fault the food or service , so glad we returned for a 2nd visit Thank you team Hudson

If I had known it was owned by the terrible Gainsford group I would not have set foot in it. It’s at best a 70s motorway service station cafe.

We were staying in the hotel on 22nd May and called to make a reservation for early dinner to be told they didn’t have a much in the way of food but could send us a 10 minute walk away to a sister hotel. It was torrential rain outside and we were on a time scale. Disappointed to say the least as when we went downstairs it was very much open and busy. Maybe they don’t want to give residents the 20% discount when it’s busy. But shocking for a restaurant not too have food.

Terrible, we went 5th may for our anniversary we had a table booked for 7pm the restaurant was pretty quiet. We ordered then waited 1 hour 10 minutes for our starter after repeatedly asking how long it was going to be, once the food arrived it was nothing special we didn't have time for our dessert that we had already paid for as it was part of the hotel package. We were sat near the open kitchen and the chef and staff were arguing amongst themselves and front of house staff so unprofessional, it was a complete shambles from start to finish. Won't return

We booked a table online for 15.3.24 for 6pm (and confirmed it via the reminder link sent), we arrived for our table last night to be told that there was no booking for us. I purposely booked for 6pm as we had a show to attend at 7:30pm. I showed the member of staff confirmation of the email to show the booking had been confirmed to which she said ‘yes you may have that but I don’t have it on my side so unfortunately there is no table, but I can get you in if you wait 20minutes and get a drink at the bar’ My husband and I told the staff member that we could not wait that long as we had a show booking and she said well there’s nothing I can do and there was a wait on food. I was appalled by this service and then queried if I could have confirmation that my card would not be charged as I had used it to confirm my booking online. She told me that ‘ No it won’t be changed it’s a hold of £0 and it wasn’t even on her system so I wouldn’t be charged’ We were forced to leave after looking forward to a special occasion meal booked well in advance on 8.3.24 and could not get in anywhere else as such short notice. My card was charged £20 for a no show fee to a booking that we did show up but it was the management of the restaurant that had overbooked and not had our reservation on their system I informed the restaurant after attempting to contact them over 20 times via phone and being passed from employee to employee. I finally spoke to Connor the ‘General Manager’ and requested that I was refunded immediately but yet I am still waiting and being told inadequate information that ‘Open Table’ had processed a refund to which I did not believe so I contacted them myself to which clarified that the information the ‘manager’ passed on was false. On contacting Open Table they stated that this is not the case as the money is charged through the restaurant themselves as they do not take money it is the restaurant who have charged me. I emailed Connor back and had no response. We would not use The Hudson ever again as it is clearly ran by unprofessional staff who do not have ‘Customer Service’ at the forefront of the business.

Came here for the 1st time today. Not only was it Valentine's Day, but we were looking for somewhere that done brunch for after our wedding in October. Good job we tested it 1st, as we were let down. We are both vegetarians & they had ran out of veggie sausages, had no coffee, no biscoff pancakes & when we changed our order to white chocolate & strawberry pancakes. They had ran out of white chocolate sauce & just substituted it for raspberry sauce. The server was so embarrassed to come to our table 3 times to say they had ran out of stuff. Barry who I presume was the head chef, was overwhelmed with 2 booked tables. Chef seemed very unprofessional. The only good thing about it was the nice girl server. A restaurant can't operate, if it doesn't have the ingredients to actually cook something. Pancakes were meh & Greggs was the stop, before heading home

We where so looking forward to our evening at the Hudson, Beautiful interior awaited us ,very plush We took our seats , offered drinks , a few of us ordered cocktails, the glass contained mostly Ice and very little else and for £9 was awful 😞 Orders for food taken, starters came , nothing exciting if I'm honest, Main courses may be better ,,, nope , we waited 40 minutes, a lot of messing about in the open plan kitchen, once food came 2 of our party had to send it back , Steaks where not cooked right , chips had been cooked until they had just give them selves up 😕 So for a 5.30 booking for tea we didn't leave till 7pm

Went for New Years eve service was terrible we didn't get deserts until 11pm and table booked for 7.30. We ordered drinks that didn't arrive . We had to constantly ask for service Then they added £30 service charge The DJ was terrible Only the company I was in saved the night

Christmas food was really disappointing. Turkey dinner came with one pig in blanket and no stuffing or cranberry despite that being advertised. Had to beg for more gravy as there was only a dribble on the plate.

Lucy was an absolute dream. She catered to all our needs. Nothing was a trouble and a bubbly personality made our night. Biggest thumbs up for breakfast was getting rid of the DIY tea/coffee which is now table service. Things are on the up & up. See you in December. X

A lovely spur of the moment dining experience, with our daughter, who started Uni a month before. Staff were lovely, and the food was exceptional. We all had the Sunday lunch, and we all felt like we had been fed very well.

Stuff are quite rude, they do change your drink when they get it wrong but with a frown in a scowel. Leaving you with an awkward feeling whilst waiting for your beverage. On two encounters I was given the wrong drink on the 2nd occasion/attempt also. I was so embarrassed to ask for another one that I just drank it. Starbucks should uphold their quality in their staff and products, regardless of it being inside a university.
