I have previously visited before they change management, and won't be returning after today's vist. Arrived at 12 45pm, was queuing for over 15 minutes as service was so slow. Finally got to till to be told by a miserable member of staff with no smile on her face that they have stopped serving food, no sign anywhere saying the time they stop food service to avoid people queuing for no reason, unles there just having drinks. She then said abruptly "are you having drinks or not." At which point I walked out and won't be returning!

We come on holiday near here and always pop into selby for breakfast. Our usual cafe is closed on a Sunday. I don’t know if it was an off day but the staff did not even crack a smile. Miserable as sin! We go stared at like we were aliens when we walked in. The food was nice but the service was, erm miserable. One of the female staff members was heard complaining it was her day off and she was in, and boy could you tell she wasn’t happy! A young lad came in at 10 to, I assume to pot wash etc and the 2 staff already in there ignored him. We won’t be returning, would rather starve! 🙄

My wife and I used to pop in here for a nice cup of coffee whenever we were in Selby but have been able to since Lockdown. The Hub has recently re-opened and has taken all measures necessary to make everyone safe with screens between tables and conter top screens to separate staff and costomers. Very well done to the owners for their measures and for making customers welcome again. Unfortunately disposable paper cup but fully understand.

First visit... we were mother daughter and two grandchildren, we sat at the first table next to the counter so we could order and still see the children.... who were very well behaved holding the laminate menus that were on plastic stands. The lady that was serving us broke of to serve something to someone else came back and said to my daughter can I take the menu’s of the children as they are £15 each (the stands are at most £2 and the laminated piece of paper does not cost £13) my daughter just said whatever as we were a little taken aback by this, she took them from the children which made the little one upset, I just said to the lady you are not very kid friendly and we left, it goes without saying we will never go back or recommend it to anyone.

Called in for lunch on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. We found a table and ordered breakfast, jacket potato, coffee and chocolate milk shake. Was served quickly and the staff were very friendly. Will say was slightly disappointed by the jacket potato which came on it’s own in a dish, no side salad or greenery. My husband’s breakfast was very good and came with two rounds of toast with jam and marmalade. Please support this local, independent cafe if you are visiting Selby and we will come back again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We visited this cafe for a snack and sat where we could see the food preparation!! It took an age for our food to arrive and it was only soup and a sausage roll. It was nice when it arrived but the time we waited gave us the opportunity to watch the food being prepared. the lady who was cooking was constantly coughing over what she was handling and we noticed she had very red nail varnish on. She went into the back and came out carrying two items which looked a bit like fish cakes and put them on the counter (no plate) she then went into the food cabinet and selected what looked like sausages and licked them up with her bare hands and added them to the other items on the counter, i think these items were part of a breakfast. The cutlery was stored with their blades, prongs, bowls upwards so everyone touched them while selecting their knives, forks or spoons. I cleaned mine with a napkin. Then there was a young lady making a milk shake and when the ice cream would not come out of the scoop she pushed it out with her finger and then when she put marshmallows on top of the cream and they started to fall off she pushed them back on with her hand. Finally the toilets were covered in cobwebs, but I suppose they don't earn them any money. The food was nice and a young man who was collecting dishes was very pleasant but the hygiene left a lot to be desired.

This is just the kind of café that a town like Selby needs. Handily placed in the centre of town so that you can have a cuppa before or after your shopping, and with a good outdoor area so that you can sit and watch the busy world go by - but in a pedestrian area so no car fumes and noise. The position is good - and so is the food. We're not talking haute cuisine here, but a good coffee or a decent pot of tea to go along with home-made cakes, tasty sandwiches (look out for the "Docker's Butty" triple layer!), paninis or a proper cooked breakfast.Prices are keen, staff are friendly and helpful and there's always a good buzz of chatter going around. Take out drinks are 50% of 'sit down' pricesIf the weather's not good enough to sit out, the inside area is warm and comfy.Another good point (at least in my eyes) is that it's proudly independent - local people serving local folk with good local nosh!

Well I am very relieved to say that despite the change of CJs cafe to the hub, my favorite cafe in Selby is just as good as ever!My bacon and egg sandwich is still perfect and just to make sure I tried some other items on the menu as well. A full breakfast, Excellent!Welsh Dragon sausage sandwich, excellent and of course the coffee! When I heard about the move being forced on CJs cafe by a greedy landlord and the corporate bullies Costa Coffee, I feared for the worst. However, I am very happy to say that the new cafe, The Hub, is just as comfortable and welcoming as the old Cjs.The food and coffee are still excellent, as is the service!

Cheerful, friendly staff, great value and lovely coffee, all served with a smile. We called in here after walking out of the nearby Market Tea rooms and were happy to find this lovely little cafe. We didn't have any of the cakes (pre holiday diet) but they looked delicious and very reasonably priced.

What everyone who takes their car in for an MOT wants to hear “ NO FAULT FOUND “. We popped in for Lunch on a Tuesday to be greeted by two lovely ladies one of whom was the Landlady (Helen) Jayne had Salmon Fillet and I had Gammon. The empty plates at the end of our meals spoke volumes, with the portions being more than ample. All freshly cooked and served in a timely fashion. Helen explained how she and other villagers had decided take the pub on in May this year and from our experience they are not doing anything wrong and making a stance to open seven days a week. Good look to you all. We will certainly be back soon. Sadly we didn’t get the name of the young lady behind the bar but she was a huge part of our fabulous experience. AND EVERYTHING INCLUDING A TIP CAME TO LESS THAN THE COST OF AN MOT. CHEERS. H&J.

Me and my partner had a lovely dinner in The Crown Inn. The service is good, friendly staff and definitely fair portion of delicious food. Highly recommend, will obviously back again.
