The Howard Arms, a country pub with exceptional staff and amazing food. Locally sourced ingredients and some local alcohol available. We stayed in The Study, a large sumptuous room with a shower and roll top bath. The breakfasts have something for everyone, plenty of choice for lunch and dinner Nothing was too much trouble for Pavel and his staff. This is a perfect choice to visit thr Cotswolds and the surrounding areas.

Recently moved into the area from Stratford-Upon-Avon so this is geographically now our local. Visited multiple times since but essentially for drinks and evening meals though there is accommodation avialable. The garden is a strong selling point and great in summer. In winter the pub comes into its own with a cosy fire and a warm welcome. The bar area returns back to the good old days with punters waiting to be served and the bar staff knowing whom has waited the longest and picking them off steadliy. Best book well in advance as it is popular and sometimes tourist coaches on a Tuesday in high-season.

This pub is as good as ever. The staff are all friendly and helpful. It has the ambience of a country pub but the room is equipped like a good hotel. There is plenty of choice at breakfast. We were in Stratford for the evening, so didn't have dinner there, but have enjoyed that in the past. It's well located both for trips to eg Stratford and for walking - there are a number of good walks straight from the door, without needing to get in the car. We were particularly grateful this time that a member of staff stayed late to meet us when we got back, because there had been a freak thunderstorm, leading to a power cut and very rare flooding, and he checked with us that the slightly wet carpet in our room wasn't going to be a problem - well beyond the call of duty.

Have been coming to this “ pub “ for 24 years…..so it must be good !! But, there are, for me, one or two “ little things “ that could easily be improved upon. Firstly, in The Country Room , although the bath has hand grips each side, it is very dangerous not to have a waist-high wall mounted hand grip when having a shower. To support myself, I had to hold on to the back of the tap when trying to get out of the bath…..don’t believe me ??…..then you try it !! Regarding the food, my first breakfast, which is always two slices of bacon and halves of tomato ……which turned out to be two very small slices of burnt bacon and a whole tomato in the middle of a large plate !!……nothing else….. I ask you !! My friend had soup to begin his dinner, which , when it arrived, was in a very large bowl, and would have been enough for three people, easily !! My wife had a poached egg for breakfast, which arrived as a “ white ball in the middle of a large plate. Someone, in the kitchen, sorely lacks imagination. After all, presentation is half the meal. In the past, I’ve always received a computerised statement of my expenses with attached bills, but here, at the Howard Arms, it does seem to be, “ on the back of a fag packet “ !!! Nevertheless, I will return, because, in spite of the above, it’s a most beautiful pub with a most delightful garden at the end of a beautiful “Brigadoon “ type village.

My partner and I recently visited the Howard Arms for a birthday celebration and were thoroughly disappointed. Upon arrival the pub looked lovely, staff were friendly and we were expecting the ‘pub of the year’. However, when the starters arrived the mussels were overly fishy and the pork terrine was average. For mains, the steaks were both overcooked and bland, and apparently the kitchen were unable to make a simple peppercorn sauce, or any sauces for that matter. The food arrived on cold plates which resulted in lukewarm food, with a cold lump of butter on top of the steak. Although the manager attempted to resolve the issues, we will not be returning to the ‘pub of the year’.

This is a delightful old inn, the pub building dates from 1600s in a beautiful cotswold village. The pub was traditional, busy and cheerful, service was great, good selection of food. Our room was very clean, comfortable, simple but stylish and had amazing fresh ground coffee and homemade biscuits. Breakfast was a treat, lovely homemade marmalade and jams, freshly cut flowers on the tables. We spent some time wandering around the village which can only be described as quaint.

The food was excellent, atmosphere would have been great if I hadn't been put in a very difficult position on arrival. I had an assistance dog with me, clearly marked as such, however I was told we could not sit in the restaurant only the bar area. I politely explained that an assistance dog can go in all areas and I should not be treated different to any other customer. The person showing me to the table ignored my comments and insisted that he go find someone to ask. I explained that its the law and its not open to debate. I was made to feel very uncomfortable to the point of being upset. I was eventually allowed to sit in the restaurant and I tried to clear the air with the person who had shown us to the table (I think he was the manager) I thought we both moved on from the situation but when we saw the person later, whilst having a pint at the bar, he was very dismissive and when we left was quite rude, he clearly had a problem with what had occurred. This is basically bad training and if people like myself don't raise these issues then nothing will change in the future. This is taken from my official ID which I was carrying: Assistance dog information It's against the law for service providers to treat people with disabilities less favourably because of their disability or because they have a guide or assistance dog with them. Equality Act 2010 (EA) Other than this disappointing episode the meal was, as mentioned excellent, we would consider returning to stay as the rooms looked very nice and but I have to say I am reluctant now after the attitude we were given by this one person. The other staff were all amazing so they have been let down by this one individual which is a shame.

Breakfast was superb and couldn’t fault anything, poached eggs were cooked to perfection. We visited for lunch, as we have always liked this pub because of its charming interior and cosy fireplace. I ordered hake and was completely shocked at the portion size, which was more like a starter. The fish was tiny, layered with some lettuce and one chard leaf with 8 button size potato bits. At £27 I was expecting a lot more and it is a shame that this kind of experience stop you returning for food. We ended up ordering extra chips and my husband donated some of his food. Perhaps I was just unlucky and other portions are fine, but chef, please get this right. It is a lovely pub and it would be a shame to get a bad reputation.

What a gorgeous pub. I booked The Howard Arms for my best friend’s 50th birthday. Considering she turned 51 in December, it’s been a long time in the making! I have been lucky enough to visit The Cotswolds several times, but never to Ilmington. What a lovely little find. The room was gorgeous, and huge! It was spotlessly clean and the beds were lovely (quite soft mattresses, but very comfy). We were in the restaurant that night. I’m a coeliac and it’s always a little tricky ordering food. I ordered a burger (they had gluten free buns) but unfortunately I couldn’t have chips, due to the cross contamination, which was a shame. My friend had the fish and chips which she said were lovely. We had breakfast the next morning, which was excellent (gluten free toast was available). The staff were all super friendly and extremely helpful. A really wonderful stay. Would love to come back 😊

It was certainly very full when we visited a few days ago, and had an excellent meal. Interesting menu ( I had smoked duck and celeriac starter, followed by pheasant with red cabbage and pearl barley. ). They have a good range of beers, and wine by the glass and bottle, and the service was very friendly and efficient. We hope to return before too long.

My starter of soup was luke warm and the bowl was also cold? Maine-et-Loire course was fish and chips, my peas tasted like they were covered in sugar, not nice. My cheeseboard was a very poor effort, the thin oat cakes just crumbled into pieces when l tried to put any tiny piece of cheese on, the chutney had pieces of uncooked apple with skin on, the quince jelly wasn't pressent and neither was the celery. A very poor effort and find it difficult to understand how you have won an award? I don't want to add photos as l feel this review is more than enough.

Work up an appetite for a great place to eat with a walk around this superb village to work up an appetite. The Howard Arms gave our party of four a warm welcome on a sunny midweek lunchtime. Jo greeted us with great enthusiasm and gave us a very nice round table in a corner of the restaurant. A limited choice of roughly half a dozen items per course with plenty of additions if you want them. Two had excellent fish and chips while other members of the party chose different items. Save space for the puddings - we found the starters and the meat options far too pricy for our pockets. The occasion was a great success thanks to the enthusiasm and helpfulness of Jo and her young team.

Went with friends and the dog for an evening meal. I had the kofta- spicy and delicious whilst my friends had the duck and the salmon. Complemented with a bottle of English sparkling wine. Good service. Lots of parking. Dog friendly

Visited after moving to the local area, reception very strange and food below standard. After a long wait it was clear that the food had been cooked for some time, possibly sat under heat light or re-heated. Couple of dry bland burgers and some mediocre...

We booked in for Sunday lunch, which was excellent with local meats. Excellent vegetables, cauliflower cheese really creamy. Bread and butter pudding really smooth. Plus good selection of local drinks (cider, gin and real ales). Good friendly service from the staff.

Excellent meal in the local pub - more a restaurant than a pub really. The menu was varied with plenty of choice for everyone. The food was delicious and the service efficient. Plenty of CV19 precautions in place

Got a recommendation to eat here as we were in the area. Nothing bad but nothing great either. Sort of meal that if someone asked, you would say is nice but not somewhere you would go back to.

On the last Sunday in December, we were one of three families who dined here after a lovely walk in the area. We booked ahead as we were quite a large group. We ordered just main courses and a couple of rounds of drinks. There were teens and adults in the party. We did not need to order food ahead as we have in other places when we have dined as a large party. Our meals came quickly, were piping hot and freshly cooked. The portions were generous and the roasts came with separate portion of vegetables and loads of lovely gravy. One of our party required a gluten free meal- this was catered for without fuss. The menu suited us, with plenty of choice, without being ‘pretentious’.There were clean plates all round, our daughter rated her burger as ‘lush’. My beef was thickly cut and hardly needed to be chewed it was probably the best roast beef I have had this year. A lovely dinner, in nice surroundings, with festive decor and although the restaurant was full, the acoustics were good, you could easily hear family members talking and were not conscious of the conversations of the other diners. Would definitely recommend

I've visited this museum house with my EFL students (mainly European) in the past. It was always a good experience. The 17-century building was always comfortable. The students learnt about Shakespeare's daughter, the important ' health work' that her husband did and their difficult lives. The tour guides were always knowledgeable (and kind to my students). The garden was beautiful. When convenient we had lunch in the cafe - the service was always very good and the food was always delicious.

The drinks are fine , cakes are fine and the venue is fine but sweet Lord the server a middle aged lady with glasses and greying hair is abrupt and unfriendly to the point of rudeness. Think Basil Fawlty on a bad day. If you don't want to be pleasant get a different job. To be fair we are normally served by someone quite nice.

After experiencing the cafe on one of their club nights, myself and my husband were completely sold with Talton Mill Cafe as the venue for our wedding party. Fran and Liz headed the venue and their input was impeccable. Everything we loved about the place was brought to our day - a cosy vibe, relaxed, beautiful, and delicious! Everything on the menu was homemade and worked perfectly with the environment. Fran and Liz listened to our ideas and needs for the day and delivered. The weather wasn’t bad either!
