My third visit to The House and it was amazing. Everything about it was excellent - food, wine, service and ambience. A great place to visit for exceptional food.

Our first choice restaurant wasn’t available to celebrate our wedding anniversary so we were recommended to try here. On a Bank Holiday Monday it was quiet but the staff were attentive and friendly. The steaks were amazing, wine choice was smooth and our espresso martinis were good. I have walked past here in the past and never ventured in but we will be back

Incredible food. My partner and I had a meal here and the food was so good. We shared a nice bottle of wine while having seafood and risotto.

We had the most delicious dinner here , it wasn’t busy as we ate early , only had a main course and pud . The steak pasta was so lovely, very well seasoned piping hot and topped with lots of fresh Parmesan. My wife had the chicken breast ( equally as good ) followed by a yummy chocolate torte . Service was very attentive and friendly. Not a pretentious restaurant very laid back with an interesting menu . Not expensive either …… what’s not too like !

Service good especially as we were there during pride. Food well presented and substantial. Only issue gluten free instead of identifying what was available gluten free received lecture of nothing safe as kitchen not gluten free then offered to removed garlic break from seafood building charged same and item not replaced

Lovely staff, the food was very good although none of it struck me as incredible given the price, but worth the money for sure.

Lovely Sunday dinner and child's menu. Proper apple juice (always a test for me!) and good value for money. It was quiet at the time we went and I'd say the food was as good as when I went several years ago.

We ate in the restaurant which is tucked away in one of the Lanes (they also have an outside covered area in an open square around 50 metres from the restaurant). We hadn't booked but were early enough to be allowed to sit at a table for a couple of hours before people came in later. Probably had the biggest and tastiest "Retro Prawn Cocktail" I've ever had and it was absolutely fab. For mains my wife went for the "House" Bouillabaisse which she absolutely polished off. I had a ribeye with triple cooked chips which was cooked to perfection for me. The service was quick but not intrusive and staff very friendly and on hand to attend to you should you need their assistance.

Tucked in one of the many Lanes is the Restaurant itself with an outdoor covered area some 50 metres from the restaurant itself. We were just wandering around the Lanes looking for somewhere to eat and came across this place. We did not want to eat outside as it was quite windy and chilly, so we found the restaurant and were lucky to get a table that was free for a couple of hours. I had a "retro Prawn cocktail" to start and it was fabulous, probably one of the largest and best prawn cocktails I have ever had. My wife went straight into a main meal and had "The House" Bouillabaisse which came with a large bowl to put all the shells in and a water with lemon bowl to wash your hands. The Boulillabaisse contained seafood stew of King prawns, mussels, squid, new potatoes, fillet of fish in a rich and herby tomato sauce. Garlic ciabatta. It was a very generous sized meal and my wife polished the lot off. I went for their Ribeye with triple cooked chips and it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic and very friendly. We arrived around 5.30pm when the restaurant was empty, when we left around 6.50pm people started to arrive and fill up the place. This is a place I certainly would visit again when I next find myself in the rea.

Great place to eat, food always fantastic, staff are fantastic, if you have not eaten here, you need too, you will not be disappointed, fantastic service.

The best food I have had in a long time, the waiter was attentive we wasn’t left waiting too long it was a little expensive but once you are eating the food you understand why the food came with wine recommendations which paired beautifully, and true to its name it is literally a house which seems odd at first but once inside it’s obvious that it’s just going to work with the atmosphere. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Brighton

I was in a hurry to find something healthy for the kids. Very surprised by the quality and taste of food, service and attitude.

We chose this restaurant for a retirement party, the food was totally amazing, lots of choices for even the pickiest eater. The staff were wonderful and keep the drinks flowing for us. Thank you for making a special evening memorable.

Terrible service, very uncomfortable , had a really bad experience where the staff weren't willing to accommodate with food preferences. Gave us no alternatives, no options and were basically implying that there isn't ANYTHING they could possibly offer us to eat :)

Best meal I’ve had in absolutely ages (and I eat out a lot)! I have lived in Brighton all my life and I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to try The House Restaurant. The food was delicious. I recommend the chicken dish with mustard and mushroom sauce - I’ve never tried such a tasty sauce. I’ve stopped ordering squid in restaurants recently as it’s always been disappointing but I braved it and it was super crispy and tasty. Inside the restaurant was so pretty and had a lovely calming atmosphere. It was cutely tucked away in the lanes. Service was excellent and all food and drinks arrived quickly. I can’t wait to return and this will be my new ‘go to’ from now on

Very nice interior and atmosphere, friendly staff and quick service. I was served with very tasty and delicious bouillabaisse, highly recommend. Removing two stars for the cocktail - it was so watery and alcohol zero-ish that should be named Waterol, not Aperol.

Really lovely food, friendly staff and in a nice setting.

I don't write many reviews, but the quality of the food we ate tonight was superb. The best I have tasted in a long while. I had the sea bass and my partner had the mushroom rissotto all washed down with a first rate Sauvignon Blanc.

Had a lovely lunch special with my two sisters and the service was attentive and the food was really good. We will look forward to a future visit especially to try the beef Wellington.

Found this little gem from reviews on line and they didn’t do it justice ! Compliments to the chef -had prawns and chilli squid for starters didn’t think it could get any better till we had the special of sea bass and fish stew .Definitely recommend and if ever in Brighton again will ensure to visit again

Reasonable value set lunch for £11

We had booked a table with the owner for 14 on the evening after the Brighton marathon, which changed to 12 on the night due to a couple of the runners not feeling great. This wasnt a problem. I had spoken to the owners wife, Hendrick and Andrea before the day due to various issues. All were friendly and helpful. Most of us had pre-ordered and some changed their orders on the night. This wasnt a problem. Some of our group were 15 mins late. This wasnt a problem. The restaurant was busy, however, the food came out promptly and was fantastic. Andrea was running the show and he and his team were calm, friendly and helpful. Was one of the best experiences I'd ever had in a restaurant. All of my group were impressed. We will be back. Thank you

Quality food will only eat here when visiting. Atmosphere is relaxed food is top notch would recommend the steak pasta and fish and chips are off the hook best you'll ever try

It is a cozy little restaurant with delicious food. I had the Sunday roast and was very yummy. English food with a French flair. The meat was tender, crispy roasted potato, perfectly roasted carrots and crunchy steamed green beans and the icing on cake was the gravy. The pint of beer was excellent.

Try the beef Wellington and the steak here. It was acceptable for the price and flavour. The steak pasta was not good. Chewy steak Maybe a little short of staff, so it takes time to get served.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch, the beef wellington, in lovely surroundings with friendly staff. All good until it came to paying the bill. They refused to take my chip and signature credit card as it cost too much to process. Luckily the person I was with paid. Not a good way to treat your disabled customers.

Steak was lovely. Atmosphere basic - better lighting would give a cosier feel. Friendly staff. Expensive. We booked for a birthday but it wasn't acknowledged, even though we told them when we booked online.

Very nice restaurant. We have visited four times now over the last couple of years and it has never failed to disappoint. The staff are professional and the service quick. There is a lovely ambience and we feel really comfortable. The food is amazing...so tasty, and the prices are reasonable as well. We will definitely return :-)

Unbelievably good! I had the beef Wellington and every element (meat, mushroom and pastry) was cooked perfectly. It doesn't feel pretentious, the restaurant has a really nice vibe . Overall would highly recommend

I went here with my wife we looked online for restaurants and found this place didn't know what to expect but turns out we found a little gem of a place. Food was amazing and service too thank you for making our night

We booked The House for Christmas Eve with our adult children who were home for the week. It's a comfortable restaurant and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good selection of wines and the menu delivered for both meat eaters and a pescatarian. We all loved the food, which was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive throughout but not overbearing, and they had good knowledge of the dishes on offer. Overall, we loved our first visit and will not hesistate to go back.

My partner and I last dined at The House Restaurant a couple of years ago as a walk-in visit. We both had a lovely experience with great food and drinks and so wanted to visit the restaurant again during a visit to Brighton. We decided to make a reservation and arrived on time and were promptly taken to our table. The restaurant is rather quaint inside as it is a converted old building in "the Lanes". We both initially went for cocktails that were very good and followed up with lagers thereafter. These were also great. We chose the bread and butter for a light starter that was tasty and inexpensive, followed by the beef wellington and "ocean" fillet steak for the main courses. Both of our main courses were delicious and reasonably priced given the quality of the meal. The portion sizes were also generous. The meal and dining experience was as good as we'd remembered it being and we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Brighton.

Lovely restaurant, although hard to spot it - there's a sign mostly hidden near an alleyway on the right pointing you there. Staff really friendly, service really quick, and the food was excellent. Value for money is really reasonable, too. Would definitely come back.

Chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding with family and it was perfect! Service was warm and friendly and the food was mouth-wateringly good. I'd recommend it for special get-togethers but can see that it could easily become a regular favourite. We'll be back next year to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks for taking such good care of us

Nice place hidden away near the lanes. Ford was gorgeous and service excellent. I would put vegetables with the steak but that’s all.

What a lovely afternoon The most delicious of lunches What can I say, On this very damp Remembrance Sunday I met my friend for lunch. A delicious king prawn starter with garlic and chillies , followed by for me a traditional super tender roast beef with crispy roast spuds and honey roasted vegetables, and I have to say the gravy , yes the the gravy was just amazing. For me the staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble, although I only ever meet The Front of House it’s a team effort. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Fantastic place, wonderful service, and amazing food! Visited as a group of 10, sat outside in the lovely courtyard and had a great time. Cannot pick any faults at all, everyone was blown away with their meals and the service was brilliant, I would not say it was expensive as I thoroughly felt that the quality of the food and service was value for money.

What to say.. food was superb! Crispy Squids and King Prawns starters were absolutely delicious!

Fantastic food and good wine in a lovely setting. Service was slow to start with and took 15 mins to order a drink. I believe this was due to a large (and noisy) party, but was service was good once they had left!

This restaurant was fantastic - they found us a table at very short notice even though they were very busy. I had been wanting a seafood dish but we asked for recommendations and were told they were known for their beef wellington so I ordered it and it was amazing. My partner loved his ocean steak dish also. Food great, wine great (lovely Pinot noir) and service really great - the staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend!

Really nice place, casual feel with fine dining menu. The prawn cocktail was immense and the service was very quick and pleasant. Beautiful rare steak with some absolutely massive king prawns, cooked very tenderly. Very nice sauted beans as well, crunchy and full of flavour.

I ordered the House Bouillabaisse and Stilton, walnut and spinach risotto. The wait time was average for a restaurant and the service was okay. The food is on the pricier side but that was expected. The House Bouillabaisse had a nice flavour with an good amount of seafood. The risotto was creamy and rich but it’s missing something as it feels a bit one-dimensional. Overall, really enjoyed it and would recommend.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary here. Place was amazing, food was exquisite. Its certainly not the cheapest of restaurants around but definitely one of the best you get what you pay for. We had 2 x glasses or wine large 2 x starters 2 x mains 1 was the beef Wellington a must have 2 x desserts 2 x espresso martini Total was £130 Definitely not complaining was worth every penny will definitely be going back

This restaurant is a real hidden gem ... quite literally, as it took a little while to find it tucked away up a little street in the corner of the small square off East Street. When I made a reservation, they did what they can to squeeze us in for the time we requested. When we got there, the restaurant was really busy but the staff were super attentive and friendly throughout our visit. The food was excellent - and beautifully presented. We both had three courses and wine, and with service charge was really good excellent value for money. Thoroughly recommend to visit - I eat out a lot, and haven't received such good service, in lovely surroundings with wonderful food in an awful long time. You can see they really put in the effort which is so rare to find in these difficult times with short staffing levels.

We were there for my sons 21st meal. The food,service and hospitality were excellent. I can't speak highly enough of the entire experience Thank you. The house.

We went here for lunch and it was a decent experience. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and the food quality is good. The portion sizes were perfect for us. My only complaint is that the minute steak I had was overcooked. The menu said it will be served medium rare, but I'd describe what I had as "well done" if not slightly overcooked as the edges were a bit dry.

Lovely place to eat in The Lanes in Brighton. Food is freshly cooked and tasty! I had the salmon which was delicious. Two of my party opted for the Beef Wellington which looked equally delicious and the portions were generous. Served with a lovely red wine this was a real treat. Service was attentive and altogether made for a delightful evening!

great food and lovely atmosphere. We had the whole upstairs for a while which could have left us missing attention, but this was not the case. We were well looked after and the staff were very attentive. We could make alterations to the menu as needed.

I was wary at the start as I tried to book and it got a bit complicated , they also take a £20 deposit and only reserve your time slot for the 2 hours. I also am not a big meat eater but my partner is , so I was worried about the menu. However , we had the most delicious meal , so much so we couldn’t even fit in desert. Which is unlike me ! Lovely staff , wonderful food , we will definitely go back.

My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We had the prawns to start followed by the Ribeye Steak and the Beef Wellington and the Creme Brûlée for dessert. All the food was delicious and the service really great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yesterday we enjoyed a gorgeous meal for 30 people upstairs at House, we were so well looked after by everyone and the food is delicious. It’s a hidden gem, so book to go there and you won’t regret it!

Possibly the best meal I have ever had?! Arriving here the restaurant had a great vibe about it, it felt cosy and intimate, the staff were also very friendly. Great selection of wines and the ones we chose tasted great. To start we had whitebait and prawns, both were superb. Mains we had a the beef Wellington and a fillet steak. The beef wellington was possibly the best plate of food I ever ate, and I could have returned back to the restaurant everyday to have that plate of food again. Fillet steak cooked perfectly and also tasted amazing. This place is a little pricy but the quality of the food well exceeds the price you pay. I will definitely be returning here the next time I stay in Brighton.

Booked in advance, leaving a deposit. When we arrived we were immediately shown to our table and offered a drink. The menu included a variety of options, including some specials for the day. We chose fish and steak, they were nicely presented and perfect cooked. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We can highly recommend the restaurant.

We were sat at our table for half an hour before being asked what we would like to drink which is quite a long time, they was very busy however, but I don’t expect to be sat for that long. Starters then took a long time to turn up. We then all ordered fillet steak, which was great! However this restaurant charges £3.50 for peppercorn sauce, which to me is very pricey! You should get a sauce with your steak! Sides have to be bought separately too(but I don’t mind that).The food was very good overall. When we came to pay, I found the waitress very rude, and when my table made a comment about it, she was very sarcastic in thanking us after making the payment! Some staff were friendly, but other staff like this particular waitress, I found quite rude! Most of the starters included fish too, not a great variety.

Our 4th time visiting this restaurant again a fabulous meal would highly recommend To friends in fact we have staff great also but very under pressure as outside tables Were so busy lots of rushing around which makes the experience not so relaxing apart from this a great place

I took myself off to Brighton for afew days and treated myself on my last night. After reading all the reviews I decided on the beef wellington and I was not disappointed. Absolutely delicious. I also had the squid for starter which was nice but nothing special. All the food going out looked delicious and I would have liked to have tried afew more dishes. Well worth a visit and don't forget to book. NB: At the moment the currently require adeposit for bookings at certain times since I suspect they have been screwed by people dining and dashing or failing to show up.

Lovely restaurant. The kids had steaks that were cooked perfectly. Wife and I had beef Wellington which was excellent. Prawn cocktail starter and mushrooms on toast were also lovely. Would definitely go back.

We have dined here twice and have not been disappointed with the food , staff, atmosphere, from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out a very pleasant experience, On my 1st visit l had fillet steak done to what had been asked for , 2nd visit l ordered chicken with Parmesan mash with green beans which was very nice , Will definitely be returning at a later date

I stopped here unexpectedly and was blown away with the first member of staff I met, Jaz (jasmine I assume). She made me feel welcome and content and recommended the steak with calamari and prawns and other sides, I will be returning because of her casual but professional hosting. Truly a wonderful experience .

Nice birthday meal. England v Denmark on so very quiet, but lovely food and service. Both had the Beef Wellington with a nice bottle of Malbec. Will be back one day!

Exceptional restaurant in a magical corner of the lanes. Good wine list and exceptional menu. The beef Wellington was the nicest meal I’ve had in years! Reasonably priced for a fine dining experience.

Lovely place, quick efficient, friendly service. Food was delicious, Squid starter was the best i have had, Prawn cocktail slight spicy twist delightful, Salmon special was so fresh & tasty & the Fish & chips well, Fish batter crisp & the chips were soft in the middle & crispy outside, just how I like it. Will definitely recommend & return. Thank you.

Great food and wine, really nice restaurant

Excellent service. No pressure on time. The Bouillabaisse is the best we have tasted outside France & this is a steak restaurant! You would be crazy not to book.
