Excellent food both times I’ve been here. The beef wellington was delicious!

Excited to go to the house. Service and atmosphere cold uninviting, no Internet either. Starter chicken sticks okay but nothing special. Main course was very good the fish boulibasie, more mussels than anything else but on the whole good. Desert was a disaster, sticky toffee pudding cremated in the microwave, you could even smell it burning on the inside at rhe table. Dish taken back and removed from the bill but no compensation offered just an abrupt apology. Cost high for what was served hence the low score.

Wonderful dinner last night, my partner and I both had fillet steak and it was cooked perfectly. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is very nice, highly recommend!

This restaurant was a gem of a find . Front of house gave a warm friendly welcome and the service was faultless to. The Beef Wellington and Bouillabaisse were divine , the steaks (a fillet and a ribeye) were cooked to perfection. Combined with a pleasant ambience , this was an allround lovely experience. Chuffed we came here. We will return!

Four of us had the misfortune to eat here for a special occasion. Honestly we’d have had better quality food and better service at McDonald’s. Ordered two portions of ‘artisan bread and butter’ as appetisers. I don’t know what their definition of ‘artisan’ is but what arrived was a few tiny slices of brown bread accompanied by 2 prepackaged portions of lurpack! Main courses arrived and two of them were stone cold. Waiter said ok I’ll get chef to reheat them! By the time they came back reheated, the other two meals had been eaten. We had a bottle of white wine which was a value budget wine that you’d pay £6 for at a supermarket - only they charged £29 for it! To top it all it wasn’t even chilled - they couldn’t even get that right. The bull for all this - £160 including the audacity of a £18 service charge.

This is a comfortable pub in The Lanes area of Brighton. It's close to both the shopping and the seafront, so a great location for visitors. We had a table on the main floor in a bay window, which was nice. The service was very good and the menu was nicely balanced. My wife and I shared the pate and prawn cocktail for starters, and we both had the grilled salmon for our main. And we treated ourselves to the Christmas pudding to finish off. The food was fresh, thoughtfully prepared, nicely presented and delicious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, and will come here again if we're ever back in Brighton.

Supremely scrumptious food as always. The House never disappoints with delicious servings for each visit. Definitely a place to try out if you've not been before. I can thoroughly recommend the Eton Mess to top off your meal 😋

Visited last week for an amazing Birthday meal, this restaurant never fails to disappoint. The food is excellent and so are the staff. With great value for money I highly recommend this steakhouse if you’re in Brighton

Excellent meal -had steak with king prawn sauce -absolutely delicious! Dining companion has very simple food tastes and his meal was cooked exactly as requested. Super service from Andrea who remembered us from a prior visit. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Lovely service, decor and atmosphere; lively, but not manic. My wife said "It's a long time since I had a steak as good as this" and my bouillabaisse couldn't have had more fish in it. Delicious! And the starters were great too. Not super cheap, but not shockingly expensive either. We'll definitely go back.

A brilliant find. Off the Lanes. You maybe put off with the position of the restaurant, but once inside everything changes. Waiter first class, food amazing, cocktails and wine excellent. This will be my restaurant of choice when I visit Brighton from now on.

Sunday lunch whilst jewellery shopping in The Lanes. My partner and I had the Sunday roast which was excellent. Friendly staff, clean, pleasant dining experience capped the day off!

Been to this restaurant before when we have visited Brighton and was pleased to see that both quality and service were both still as good as we remembered. We took friends with us and they also enjoyed their meals. Generous portion sizes and cooked to perfection. Next time we visit, we will make The House Restaurant our first dinner stop

Shame this restaurant is tucked away down an alleyway. Four if us ate and the food was excellent and the service superb. Will go back when next in Brighton

The entrance to the restaurant is somewhat hidden, so you have to look carefully. But once inside there is plenty of choice and the food is delicious. The service was also neat and fast. Would definitely go here if I'm in Brighton again.

There is some nice tables indoors and the food is good for the price, though not as good as other restaurants in the area

It says first cone first served. Travelled from north Kent. By 15.15. They sold ut of roast dinners. Only been open 3 hours.!!!! Poor stock control

We had an excellent meal here last night. My steak with macaroni was delicious and my friends thoroughly enjoyed their pan fried chicken and bouillabaisse - puddings and service were great too. Looking forward to coming back.

There are some decent steakhouses in Brighton and I'll definitely include this place in that list! The florentine with blue cheese made an interesting starter, the steaks both prepared as requested and well presented. Good value for quality of food, but would say the drinks are a little overpriced.

Sat outside in one of the last sunny days. The squid starter & bread was excellent. The Bouillabaisse didn’t really have enough depth of flavour but the seafood was well cooked. The chicken mustard main was very tasty. Wine reasonably priced… all in all very enjoyable

I tried beef wellington for the first time at this restaurant. I thought it was excellent. Service was also great and a pleasant atmosphere. My fiancé and I recommend it.

Lovely little restaurant, plenty of outside seating, although we sat inside because of weather and small children. The food was amazing, the service fantastic, and they did ready well by our two small children.

I have been to the Gordon Ramsey restaurant in soho.. and paid £99 for a beef wellington… this was absolutely amazing and was far better..congratulations to the chef…. AMAZING!!!!!

My third visit to The House and it was amazing. Everything about it was excellent - food, wine, service and ambience. A great place to visit for exceptional food.

First time going and it’s lovely there! Even though it’s supposed to be summer, it was quite chilly when sitting out in the courtyard so we had the heater on and it was lovely! The food was super tasty and the waitress was very helpful and positive. The only improvement I would suggest would be to have a mesh divider between the courtyard and the taxi tank side as it was a bit noisy and distracting.

Our first choice restaurant wasn’t available to celebrate our wedding anniversary so we were recommended to try here. On a Bank Holiday Monday it was quiet but the staff were attentive and friendly. The steaks were amazing, wine choice was smooth and our espresso martinis were good. I have walked past here in the past and never ventured in but we will be back

We had the most delicious dinner here , it wasn’t busy as we ate early , only had a main course and pud . The steak pasta was so lovely, very well seasoned piping hot and topped with lots of fresh Parmesan. My wife had the chicken breast ( equally as good ) followed by a yummy chocolate torte . Service was very attentive and friendly. Not a pretentious restaurant very laid back with an interesting menu . Not expensive either …… what’s not too like !

Only issue gluten free instead of identifying what was available gluten free received lecture of nothing safe as kitchen not gluten free then offered to removed garlic break from seafood building charged same and item not replaced

Lovely Sunday dinner and child's menu. Proper apple juice (always a test for me!) and good value for money. It was quiet at the time we went and I'd say the food was as good as when I went several years ago.

We ate in the restaurant which is tucked away in one of the Lanes (they also have an outside covered area in an open square around 50 metres from the restaurant). We hadn't booked but were early enough to be allowed to sit at a table for a couple of hours before people came in later. Probably had the biggest and tastiest "Retro Prawn Cocktail" I've ever had and it was absolutely fab. For mains my wife went for the "House" Bouillabaisse which she absolutely polished off. I had a ribeye with triple cooked chips which was cooked to perfection for me. The service was quick but not intrusive and staff very friendly and on hand to attend to you should you need their assistance.

Tucked in one of the many Lanes is the Restaurant itself with an outdoor covered area some 50 metres from the restaurant itself. We were just wandering around the Lanes looking for somewhere to eat and came across this place. We did not want to eat outside as it was quite windy and chilly, so we found the restaurant and were lucky to get a table that was free for a couple of hours. I had a "retro Prawn cocktail" to start and it was fabulous, probably one of the largest and best prawn cocktails I have ever had. My wife went straight into a main meal and had "The House" Bouillabaisse which came with a large bowl to put all the shells in and a water with lemon bowl to wash your hands. The Boulillabaisse contained seafood stew of King prawns, mussels, squid, new potatoes, fillet of fish in a rich and herby tomato sauce. Garlic ciabatta. It was a very generous sized meal and my wife polished the lot off. I went for their Ribeye with triple cooked chips and it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic and very friendly. We arrived around 5.30pm when the restaurant was empty, when we left around 6.50pm people started to arrive and fill up the place. This is a place I certainly would visit again when I next find myself in the rea.

The best food I have had in a long time, the waiter was attentive we wasn’t left waiting too long it was a little expensive but once you are eating the food you understand why the food came with wine recommendations which paired beautifully, and true to its name it is literally a house which seems odd at first but once inside it’s obvious that it’s just going to work with the atmosphere. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Brighton

I was in a hurry to find something healthy for the kids. Very surprised by the quality and taste of food, service and attitude.

Terrible service, very uncomfortable , had a really bad experience where the staff weren't willing to accommodate with food preferences. Gave us no alternatives, no options and were basically implying that there isn't ANYTHING they could possibly offer us to eat :)

We chose this restaurant for a retirement party, the food was totally amazing, lots of choices for even the pickiest eater. The staff were wonderful and keep the drinks flowing for us. Thank you for making a special evening memorable.

Tasty Sunday roast. Great service

Best meal I’ve had in absolutely ages (and I eat out a lot)! I have lived in Brighton all my life and I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to try The House Restaurant. The food was delicious. I recommend the chicken dish with mustard and mushroom sauce - I’ve never tried such a tasty sauce. I’ve stopped ordering squid in restaurants recently as it’s always been disappointing but I braved it and it was super crispy and tasty. Inside the restaurant was so pretty and had a lovely calming atmosphere. It was cutely tucked away in the lanes. Service was excellent and all food and drinks arrived quickly. I can’t wait to return and this will be my new ‘go to’ from now on

Very nice interior and atmosphere, friendly staff and quick service. I was served with very tasty and delicious bouillabaisse, highly recommend. Removing two stars for the cocktail - it was so watery and alcohol zero-ish that should be named Waterol, not Aperol.

Really lovely food, friendly staff and in a nice setting.

I don't write many reviews, but the quality of the food we ate tonight was superb. The best I have tasted in a long while. I had the sea bass and my partner had the mushroom rissotto all washed down with a first rate Sauvignon Blanc.

Had a lovely lunch special with my two sisters and the service was attentive and the food was really good. We will look forward to a future visit especially to try the beef Wellington.

Found this little gem from reviews on line and they didn’t do it justice ! Compliments to the chef -had prawns and chilli squid for starters didn’t think it could get any better till we had the special of sea bass and fish stew .Definitely recommend and if ever in Brighton again will ensure to visit again

Reasonable value set lunch for £11

We had booked a table with the owner for 14 on the evening after the Brighton marathon, which changed to 12 on the night due to a couple of the runners not feeling great. This wasnt a problem. I had spoken to the owners wife, Hendrick and Andrea before the day due to various issues. All were friendly and helpful. Most of us had pre-ordered and some changed their orders on the night. This wasnt a problem. Some of our group were 15 mins late. This wasnt a problem. The restaurant was busy, however, the food came out promptly and was fantastic. Andrea was running the show and he and his team were calm, friendly and helpful. Was one of the best experiences I'd ever had in a restaurant. All of my group were impressed. We will be back. Thank you

It is a cozy little restaurant with delicious food. I had the Sunday roast and was very yummy. English food with a French flair. The meat was tender, crispy roasted potato, perfectly roasted carrots and crunchy steamed green beans and the icing on cake was the gravy. The pint of beer was excellent.

Try the beef Wellington and the steak here. It was acceptable for the price and flavour. The steak pasta was not good. Chewy steak Maybe a little short of staff, so it takes time to get served.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch, the beef wellington, in lovely surroundings with friendly staff. All good until it came to paying the bill. They refused to take my chip and signature credit card as it cost too much to process. Luckily the person I was with paid. Not a good way to treat your disabled customers.

Very nice restaurant. We have visited four times now over the last couple of years and it has never failed to disappoint. The staff are professional and the service quick. There is a lovely ambience and we feel really comfortable. The food is amazing...so tasty, and the prices are reasonable as well. We will definitely return :-)

I went here with my wife we looked online for restaurants and found this place didn't know what to expect but turns out we found a little gem of a place. Food was amazing and service too thank you for making our night

We booked The House for Christmas Eve with our adult children who were home for the week. It's a comfortable restaurant and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good selection of wines and the menu delivered for both meat eaters and a pescatarian. We all loved the food, which was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive throughout but not overbearing, and they had good knowledge of the dishes on offer. Overall, we loved our first visit and will not hesistate to go back.

My partner and I last dined at The House Restaurant a couple of years ago as a walk-in visit. We both had a lovely experience with great food and drinks and so wanted to visit the restaurant again during a visit to Brighton. We decided to make a reservation and arrived on time and were promptly taken to our table. The restaurant is rather quaint inside as it is a converted old building in "the Lanes". We both initially went for cocktails that were very good and followed up with lagers thereafter. These were also great. We chose the bread and butter for a light starter that was tasty and inexpensive, followed by the beef wellington and "ocean" fillet steak for the main courses. Both of our main courses were delicious and reasonably priced given the quality of the meal. The portion sizes were also generous. The meal and dining experience was as good as we'd remembered it being and we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Brighton.

Lovely restaurant, although hard to spot it - there's a sign mostly hidden near an alleyway on the right pointing you there. Staff really friendly, service really quick, and the food was excellent. Value for money is really reasonable, too. Would definitely come back.

Chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding with family and it was perfect! Service was warm and friendly and the food was mouth-wateringly good. I'd recommend it for special get-togethers but can see that it could easily become a regular favourite. We'll be back next year to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks for taking such good care of us

What a lovely afternoon The most delicious of lunches What can I say, On this very damp Remembrance Sunday I met my friend for lunch. A delicious king prawn starter with garlic and chillies , followed by for me a traditional super tender roast beef with crispy roast spuds and honey roasted vegetables, and I have to say the gravy , yes the the gravy was just amazing. For me the staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble, although I only ever meet The Front of House it’s a team effort. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
