So ... we were looking for somewhere different in Yarm today for lunch .and as we walked past "The House" I was seduced by a picture outside of a full english breakfast . The picture depicted a plate with two eggs , two sausages and all the trimmings , it looked delicious . I didn't need to look at the menu , I knew what I wanted to eat . We duly went inside and were greeted warmly by a member of staff . How disappointing to find that the picture outside in no way resembled the actual food ! Only one egg , one sausage ....etc I felt we were lured inside by false advertising ... . Granted the Menu on inspection did state " Egg , Sausage , etc etc " .... but not what was depicted on the picture outside . So .... be warned !!!!

We called in today to get out of the wind and rain. We had hot drinks and Scones. Have to say that these were the freshest and tastiest Scones we have had in a long time. Very polite staff. Pity we were the only ones in as no buzz but looks busy normally.

On recommendation by a friend we decided to try The House in Yarm for lunch. We weren’t sure how busy it would be so we booked a table. The cafe/bistro was well laid out, clean and tidy. We were shown to a table and had our drinks order taken pretty quickly. We were then given ample time to view the menu which had plenty of variety. We made our choices and the food arrived fairly quickly. Presentation in all three cases was excellent, as was portion size. Prices were also very good. We had a very comfortable lunch and would certainly come back again.

I attended with my two children, a friend and her two children. The prices were high but thought we would give it a try and may be it was worth it..... it was not. My 6 year old had an adult sandwich, £6.95 for a normal plain ham sandwich cut into 4(what you would give a child not adult) with a salad garnish and 6 crisps. The nachos were ladened with greasy cheese, fat sitting on the top, the actual nachos were burnt and the pizzas were burnt. Although the staff were accommodating, moving tables to fit us in the food was over priced and very disappointing.

Visiting Yarm and wanted a bite to eat. We were unsure where to eat and asked a shop assistant for recommendations. She mentioned a couple but I’ve never been into The House, so we thought we’d give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. We had the Friday Fish special. It was lovely and great value for money. Didn’t have space for a dessert but next time I think we’ll just have a drink so we can have a gorgeous dessert. So worth coming here if shopping in Yarm

We walked the main street at Yarm trying to find somewhere for a nice, but inexpensive meal. A lot of the menus outside the pubs and restaurants seemed a bit expensive and pretentious, but eventually we found the café inside The House (a sort of small department store on the main street). Even though it was busy, we were soon shown to a table. The menu had a good choice of food. The meals we chose were very tasty and moderately priced. The service was friendly. One disadvantage was that the toilets were upstairs - perhaps a bit of a problem for anyone with a mobility problem. Other than than, I can recommend this restaurant for its food and its reasonable prices.

My wife and I are (now were !) quite frequent visitors to this restaurant. Yesterday I ordered pie of the day, billed as steak and mushroom, with chips and veg. It was served within 10 minutes, and the pleasant waitress said 'mind your plate, it's very hot'. I should have complained at the beginning, but was just a little intrigued how this supposedly upmarket place could serve such a dish. The plate was so hot because it and the food had been heated in a microwave, and whilst the chips and veg would just about pass as almost acceptable the pie was simply awful. It was incinerated at the edges, the base was inedible, and I 'found' two pieces of mushroom, and about four mouthfuls of steak that could be classed as edible. When the waitress (same one) collected the plates she asked me if everything was ok I told her it wasn't and pointed out that micowaving the pie was a complete and utter disaster. She said she would 'tell the kitchen staff' and the reward for this was 2 cupcakes, around the size of a 50p piece. Excellent way though to lose customers !

My mother may be an elderly lady but she is not a child and is quite capable of answering a question . Perhaps a little training on respect of the elderly would help. Had to wait for some time before the food was served but it was a good portion size and tasty.

I walked through the shop admiring the goods on sale and got to the bistro at the back. Once there I ordered food and a coffee which were both lovely when they arrived. However myself and the two ladies I came in with ordered a glass of tap water each. When the waitress brought them over she spilled two of them straight into my lap and onto my phone!! She did apologise and offered me a cloth to dry myself off but didn't bother replacing the water or offer a free dessert or anything to appease the situation and then when i went to the till at the end she charged me full price!! Disappointed in the level of customer service as i felt the least she could do was offer a free coffee or something considering I left her establishment looking like I'd peed my pants!!

Visited for a last minute Sunday lunch. The food was very good and great value. A couple of pointers for the staff though... 1. Please avoid talking about microwaving the meals in front of customers and 2. The bill did not make any sense although having mentioned this it was immediately corrected. Food was very good but our order was taken too hurriedly and it was hard to relax between the draft of the constantly swinging kitchen door and having to listen to the staff discuss their work situation. It's a treat to go out to eat and staff should respect this and think about how loud they're talking and the content of their conversation - it's just unprofessional! In addition, a radio playing in the corner (presumably for the benefit of the staff rather than customers) was just annoying. Staff were friendly but won't be in a hurry to revisit.

When we said there was more to come we had to wait approximately 12 minutes for the rest of the order. Although the food was reasonable all the plates came with salad with dressing. All the plates were left with the salad. What a waste of food! Why can't restaurants either say on the menu that the salad has dressing (so there is the opportunity to ask for it to be left off) or bring it out as a separate??

This cafe is located at the back of a lovely designer clothes shop, so you can have a browse before and after your visit to the cafe. We called in for a coffee and scone. Both the latte and expresso were good, not too weak as is often the case in some cafes. The fruit scone was lovely and fresh with butter and jam included. The only negative during our visit was that one of the waiting staff had a very loud voice. A customer asked what soft drinks they had and she proceeded to look in the fridge and shout out all the different drinks! I have to admit that there was quite a selection, but we didn't need to hear them all...That said, the service was efficient and friendly, just a bit loud!

Mum and I just had soup and sandwiches, very yummy! Unfortunately we were too full for cake - looked amazing though! Staff were super friendly and service was quick and efficient. The food here is very nice, the menu has a wide selection and the choice of drinks is good too. The only thing that lets the house down is the service, some of the staff have a poor and grumpy attitude, and they have no idea how to serve the meals, cutlery and plates are "dropped" in front of you rather than served. It's a shame as it's a nice cafe come restaurant, maybe they had an off day, so we will come again for a second chance.

Sunday lunch with all the trimmings is always a firm favourite in our family. The House does the traditional Sunday faire exceptionally well and at a reasonable price. On this occasion there was beef, chicken and pork to select from. I opted for a mixture of pork and chicken since I found it hard to decide. The generous plate came loaded with the largest Yorkshire pudding I’d seen in a long while and delicious roasted parsnips and roast potato with ample gravy. Then along came the side dishes of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and a separate bowl of mushy peas. Delicious. The service was attentive and the food very good for such a small, intimate venue.

Not impressed when the bill arrived at the table before the food. Also the Breakfast items are very expensive and poorly presented, £2.75 for a child's orange juice and £2.50 for a weak frothy cappuccino is ridiculous given the competition on the high street. my advice if you want true value for money and also to be treated as a valued customer is to walk straight past and go to the cross keys.

A coffee shop style restaurant that you can quite easily forget when you sample the quality of food on offer. If meeting clients for breakfast in Yarm, it's my No. 1 destination as never over busy or noisy, service excellent and food exceptionally good.

We had afternoon tea today and it was absolutely lovely. Our waitress Libby was very attentive and made it a very pleasurable experience. Nothing was too much trouble and the setting was perfect.

I used to love this place, the food is good and the staff have always been and generally still are excellent with the exception of the new lady who is very unprofessional and rude and made me feel very uncomfortable when I went in recently. Being around while she spoke to staff and customers the way she did wasn't pleasant, and she clearly has no idea what she's doing. It's very chaotic in there recently, not at all the relaxing atmosphere I used to go in for. Given the rising costs I understand changes being made but putting up the price of milkshakes and cutting the quality is just cheeky, when you buy "speciality" you expect good quality.

Visited last night for our wedding anniversary hoping for something a bit special. Lovely decor and ambiance but we were really disappointed with the food. I ordered the stake with chimichurri. It arrived with peppercorn sauce (I assumed they must have ran out of chimichurri but it wasn’t mentioned). Stake was really fatty and chewy and difficult to cut through. It was served with fries which were just frozen McDonald’s type fries. I expected something more home cooked. My husband ordered a coffee after the meal and was told the machine was broken. He then ordered a whiskey and the server had no idea what he was asking for despite it being on their very limited drinks menu. We then waited 20 minutes for the drinks before being told they couldn’t find the whiskey. He ordered an alternative scotch and it was served with ice. My husband had to send it back and ask for another. When the bill came the peppercorn sauce mentioned earlier was charged as an extra despite this not being my choice. The meal cost us £200 and an additional £45 for taxis back and forth. It really was not worth the price! Staff seemed nice if a little neglectful ( had to ask them to take away empty glasses that were sat there for the whole meal on our small table) and inexperienced. They knew nothing about the menu and drinks available despite the menu being very small. I wouldn’t return.

Our 2nd visit to this Excellent pub, they do 2 for £15 even on a Friday night where lots of pubs are Monday to Thursday only. They have 3 or 4 flavour thatchers on draught that I can't find anywhere else. Warm and welcoming. As a party of 4 we sat in the corner out the way and ordered food and a couple of drinks.... Very reasonable prices. The lad came over 20mins ahead of time to let us know the child in the group had to leave so no rushing about. Definitely somewhere we will be returning to. I would say the car park seems small for the size of the pub and you would expect parking issues but we have never had a problem getting parked.
