First thing I noticed was how empty the carpark was. Not a good sign at 2pm on a Sunday. The pub itself was clean and spacious. Only 2 meals for Sunday lunch available, Pork and Beef. No starters! I went for pork and the others beef. The meals looked good, but when they brought out steak knives, that seemed to be standard to eat with, we were a little concerned. What can I say? The meat was awful, tough beef and it wasn't a pork joint but belly pork that I couldn't even cut with the steak knife! We all left most of the meat and thought the homemade puddings would fill us up. What could possibly go wrong? I had brownie with ice cream- brownie was dry as if it had been made a couple of days before at least the ice cream was fine, it probably came out of a tub. They excelled at ruining the apple pies! The topping should have been used to fill the potholes!! Inedible. We left disgruntled and our teeth worse for wear! Definitely not going back there and would advise others not even give it a try unless you have your teeth insured!!

A traditional family run pub, with great service and super tasty, filling pub classics. The home made steak pie was jammed packed, I struggled to finish it. Wife's steak cooked to perfection, and daughters food exactly as requested leading to an almost empty plate. Well worth a visit, and has plenty of car parking a secluded Garden's all around the premises.

Great village pub with 2 warm cosy bars , Traditional pub menu, gardens, car parking and a couple of comfortable letting rooms. Great stop for lunch or dinner or a short stay

This pub is run by my friends sister , she took us to visit when we arrived the pub looked lovely outside but it was even better inside a beautiful bar, plenty of seating , a nice cosy nook , the food was great, good portions , prices good too & very friendly

Should of walked out when we went in and could smell the fryers! My eyes are still stinging! Food wasn't brilliant and didn't bother with pudding. A shame cos this used to be a good place to eat but we won't be going back.

Stayed last night with my husband. Staff are lovely and friendly, couldn’t do enough for us. The breakfast was amazing! And only £10 each. Best full English breakfast we’ve ever had. Thank you to all the staff and compliments to the chef! See you again soon

Popped into the horse and jockey for a quick beer. Ended up having some lunch and a delicious burger. 6 ounce and chips cooked really well and very tasty. Really well priced and good value. Very friendly and well worth a visit. X

We stayed there for one night we had a meal in the evening and breakfast The evening meal we ordered a Burger and my wife ordered coronation chicken . So we where waiting for our food the waitress came in to the restaurant with the food and fell the poor girl hurt herself our food went everywhere. I was given my food because it stayed on the plate other parts of the dish went on the floor my wife’s was picked up then returned to her after it had been in the kitchen so we paid for food that was not complete . Breakfast £10 for full English two couples eating that morning they got full English we didn’t but got charged for it

Mom and I had fish n chips and mushy peas. AHmazing! Very hospitable both the employees and the locals. A truly authentic English experience. We’d highly recommend it.

I moved to the area about a year ago and never really gave this pub a go other than a couple visits. However, a friend and I went for a pint after a walk and decided to try Sunday lunch the next day. The price of the roast was outstanding £14.50 for one course and £17.50 for two courses. I went for the roast beef and my boyfriend and friend both went for the chilli beef to start and the roast beef. The Chilli beef starter was a massive portion and delicious. The roast beef was pink and tender coming with all the trimmings. Service was good and food arrived quickly; however when asking for wine we were told the list on the menu was out of date (probably worth updating to avoid confusion). Nevertheless the wine was lovely. Definitely won’t be dismissing my local again and will be bringing friends again.

We visited for lunch with friends, there was only one member of staff front of house. He was seeking at the bar, seating guests in thr restaurant, taking food orders, delivering food from the kitchen and clearing tables. He, Charlie, to his credit remained positive and smiled throughout. At one point, he was struggling to keep up and the kitchen bell was rang for food to be delivered. He was serving at the bar, what's he to do? He can't be in two places at once. So, the landlady came from the kitchen with two plates and on her way in to the bar stopped and accused him of not being bothered to come to the kitchen and collect the food. Charlie should not have been on his own doing all of that. The management of the pub have let him, and their customers down. The food when it came was good, except that one plate should have had fries not chips, and after our food was delivered, without homemade coleslaw, we asked for the coleslaw only to be told that they had run out. If this is how staff are treated, we won't be back...

A family party of six came away very happy - all tastes and fads catered for. Pleasant and efficient service, very good food beautifully presented, and at a very reasonable price.

Me and my partner visited this lovely establishment last weekend. Amazing food, efficient and friendly staff and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the spicy chicken wings and the linguine carbonera with chicken. Lovely rooms. Raymond made us feel very welcome and we has a very nice stay!

We have just had our monthly family meal and I'm glad to say the pub is back on track again. The menu isn't OTT and has a lot of pub favourites on it. Over the last few months I have been told there have been some highs but a lot of lows with regards to food offerings. Now they have a new landlord and lady the food is once again A1. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food came out on time and piping hot. My only complaint is that my good friend Wacker hasn't got his picture on the wall of fame along with the others, Zimmer, Willy, Graham and Farmer Mike they all spent more time in the pub than they did at home.

Blooming lovely Halloumi and Red Pepper burger. Really cosy pub with an open fire. Friendly, efficient service from Charlie and lovely to meet Jo and Ray, the managers, in their mine host roles. Will be back.

I visited this weekend for Sunday lunch with my parents having previously had several disappointing meals here. I am pleased to say that the pub was refreshingly clean, the staff were friendly, the atmosphere improved and the food fantastic. The meal was worthy of the price, which was reasonable. There was a choice of 4 meats or a Nut roast, the presentation was nice, the portion size was perfect, it was served hot and on hot plates. We had two deserts between us which again tasted fantastic and were beautifully presented (the cheese cake in particular was a work of art). The Chef & staff were attentive and checked to make sure we had everything we needed and offered extra gravy and any sauces. Overall 4.5/5 - I think they had missed a delivery so no Malbec or Cab Sav available but this is easily remedied. The new team are clearly making efforts to listen to customer feedback and act on it where they can - the effort is obvious and much appreciated, we all had a lovely experience will definitely be booking in again soon. Good job, thank you.

Although our waitress seemed lovely, we really did not have a great experience. Nice atmosphere at the bar but quiet around the tables. Drinks were handled by the top of the glass by bar staff just a big no no in hospitality especially after COVID. The menu was on a chalkboard 4/5 options of starters & mains priced the same which I don't think was right for the options available. For £15 per main course it should be quality and the food was just not up to restaurant standard. It was a birthday meal and we really don't like to complain however we did try to politely comment that we weren't happy with the meals. The vegetable stir fry would have better served with noodles not rice and some different vegetables mixed. We had all finished bar one when we were asked if the food was ok, and we were hungry after a long day. We left disappointed and finished our night elsewhere. I didn't want to write a review but I hope that the feedback can be taken constructively. We overhead another customer asking if it was a new chef which the waitress said yes too, we would really have appreciated a heads-up before ordering just so we had an idea what to expect. It's a beautiful place with so much potential, best wishes

Having hosted 40 family & friends at our village pub in mid July to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary, which was a thoroughly brilliant evening, we didn't think twice about booking a table online for dinner on the spur of the moment on Friday 19th August. I wish we had thought twice! In the space of just a few weeks, our local pub has gone from hero to zero. Our table was just pointed out to us, no menus were offered and we just bought our drinks at the bar. After 20 minutes, we asked for menus, only to be told the menus was on a chalk board on the wall. Having ordered our meal, we waited another 40 minutes, after which I had to go to the bar to ask why we are waiting. Profuse apologies were offered and within a few minutes our meals were served. To be honest, as a keen amateur cook, I could,have done much better myself. The manager was genuinely sorry that our experience fell far short of expectations and did offer a complimentary drink and adjusted the food bill by way of compensation. However, whilst that gesture was appreciated as a short term reaction to an unacceptable situation, clearly something drastic has changed, and until the situation stabilises and then improves, we won't be frequenting our local pub .....real shame, as it is "the only pub in the village" and has so much potential.

Distinctly average. Unimaginative. The scampi was the best of the bunch of 6. Hard to get that wrong. V limited kids menu. ‘Side Salad’ consisted of a chunk of iceberg, dried up red cabbage, grated carrot, 1 slice of cuc (halved) and a couple of cherry toms. No dressing. Come on, reduce the menu to a couple of quality (non deep fried and non re-heated) dishes?

We booked an over night stay at this beautiful pub the room had everything you needed for a perfect stay the bed was so comfortable and very peaceful. The actual pub itself was very nice and all staff was very welcoming .We sat outside as it was a lovely day when the sun went down we found a lovely seat inside the staff was very chatty expecially a lady called Michele .We booked dinner for 7 and was taken to our table at the back of the pub in the dining area which was busy we looked at the food as it was being placed on the tables and changed my choice of food four times as was watching the food coming out .I settled for the fillet steak with pepper corn sauce and it was amazing top class. I recommended this pub which is dog friendly atmosphere.

Meeting up with family from north of the border was made special by the warm welcome that awaited us and the food is mouth watering. The starters wetted the appetite for more. From the roast chicken, beef and lamb wonderful roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, swede mash, broccoli and red cabbage and extra gravy. A good time was had by all. Thank you

I should have taken a picture of the shocking plate of food that was dished up for my lunch today. £14.00 for a plate of luke warm tagiatelle smothered with tomato sauce and 6 uncooked prawns. The presentation was atrocious and the pasta was plonked on the plate enough for 6 people. In January I had a delicious salmon lunch, however will not be returning or recommending the Horse and Jockey. WILD HORSES WOULDN'T DRAG ME THERE

A beautifully restored village pub and restaurant where the food is tasty and and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The fish pie is delicious but if you prefer try the chicken, bacon and avocado salad!

Great Sunday lunch it was the best roast beef I’ve had for a while. Not cheap but you get the quality you deserve. The desserts are lovely but so big I’d recommend sharing

I cannot recommend the Horse and Jockey highly enough. They were so accommodating and all the staff were very kind and knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble. The menu had so much choice and the food was lovely. Will be returning very soon!

Husband and I visited on a Saturday night. From the moment we walked in we were very welcomed. Beautiful place with a modern feel. Food was amazing, reasonably priced and great service. I would definatley recommend and return.

We were in area for one night only and opted to try this pub for its Wednesday Steak Night offer. We certainly made the right choice! Welcoming and friendly staff, delicious and well-presented freshly prepared food at a reasonable price and an attractive setting with a pleasant ambience. What more could we want? Thank you!

We’re in the English Cotswolds for an evening and a block from our most AirBnb (The Stables in Stanford in the Vale) our host suggested The Horse & Jockey. They were fully reserved but the owners “snuck us” in for dinner. The food and service is amazing. It has a very interesting and inventive menu. The food is as good as it gets and beautifully presented by first-class servers. We had the olive medley, parsnip crisps and lamb cutlets. Would definitely recommend and plan to return on our next trip, even if it’s a detour to come. Definitely check it out.

We have been here several times now, never had to book, and usually eat as we enjoy having a drink there every now and then. Not only as it is so local to us, but as it has trumped many other restaurants/pubs of its type. Menu has a great choice, with so many local and tasty looking options, and the price is great value! We always leave very full! Lots of dining area options, and two outdoor seating spaces. Lovely rural pub atmosphere. They cater for all dietary needs, and for those who love the traditional big pub food portions and traditional menu, it has it all!

A clean and well run place for an excellent Sunday lunch. Nice generous portions of beef and veg but could have been served a bit hotter as only Luke warm. Deserts exceptional and good value as part of the two course.

We visited on a pub quiz night and had a meal with friends before the quiz. Pretty good service and food to match - I had the Scampi and chips, OK not very imaginative but it's what I wanted and to be honest it was as good as it gets. The chips were served in their own container, which worked well for finger eating and dipping in Mayo. Their home made ice cream is excellent and once you see the desert menu, you'll want it all.

Mum had the fish pie which she said was very good and I had the most delicious hamburger which was served with the biggest battered onion rings I have ever seen! The food is freshly baked so there is a little waiting time but well worth it. Will definitely be returning with husband in tow!

Had dinner here last night with a friend. Enormous car park, pleasant ambience, busy buzz from the locals who were packing out the bar, large dining room pleasantly decorated. The landlord and lady were welcoming and chatty, checking on us through the meal, and even packed up my friend’s half eaten fish pie to take home...it was a very generous serving she couldn’t finish it. My trout pate was home made, the fish caught by the landlord! It was very tasty, a delicious smokey flavour going through. We decided to have dessert because they sounded enticing. Both chose Mango cheesecake with homemade passion fruit ice cream. The texture of the cheesecake was good but it lacked any flavour, and the portion size was much smaller than expected for the price. The only mango flavour was in the decorative purée on the plate. The passion fruit icecream was sublime with a really punchy passion fruit flavour. Service was slow but staff pleasant. I’d definitely eat here again.

I met my daughter here and was met by friendly staff. A comfortable modern warm environment. We were served promptly and our food arrived quickly. The food was to a very high standard and there was a fair quantity of it. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Myself and friends met here today for Sunday lunch. I loved the look of the pub, especially the roaring fire. The staff were all so lovely and helpful. The food was awesome - all of us thought it was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had! The roast beef was particularly special! Two members of our party also enjoyed the local ale! Overall we have a great afternoon and look forward to coming back again!

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch here today with friends. Great food, great service and very good value with two courses costing £17. I had fishcakes followed by roast beef and yorkshire pudding with a good selection of vegetables. The staff were welcoming and the service was friendly, efficient and professional. We will definitely be going back.

I have been here twice now with friends for food and would thoroughly recommend a visit. They have promotional nights on during the week which are worth looking out for. The menu is extensive and they always have specials on. The pizzas are the best I have ever had, so many toppings and enough to take home for the next day. Staff are always lovely :)

Went here on Sunday as part of my wife's birthday celebrations. The welcome on arrival was very friendly and our party of 13 were sat on about 3 tables put together which was nice. As we were seated another lovely waitress said that she would be over to take our drinks orders. Most of us had starters - the smoked salmon and avocado stack seemed to be a favourite amongst our party however both the pate and the mushroom soup were both highly spoken about too.

I would fully recommend The Horse & Jockey if you want to experience true old English hospitality. The food is great value & the menu is creative. Rooms are clean & the welcome is warm.

Joined the publican in 2 pints - can’t attest to the food but the place was full and every table was full. The Horse and Jockey pint was great, happily return for another.

We have met friends here a few times for lunch or dinner. It has not been necessary to book for lunch, but booking for dinner is advisable. Food is good and service has generally been attentive. Gluten free options are available. Prices are reasonable.

Very, very impressed ! Just pulled in whilst passing for a light lunch. Certainly wasn’t expecting anything particularly special especially with the ‘Green King’ sign above the door, how wrong we were. We had the dogs with us so sat outside, but were given the option to sit in the dog friendly area. The staff’s ( I presume the owners ) welcome was genuine, warm and very friendly. Helping by opening doors as I had drinks in my hand, courtesy you rarely see nowadays. Their upbeat welcome and cheery attitude was evident with the rest of the staff, and the lovely lady who brought our food ( and treats for the dogs ) could not have been nicer.

Really not impressed with all aspects of our visit.On arrival we were told they were busy ,there were 12 other customers ,and that 2 large parties were expected (no one else arrived when we were there.) However they would fit us in .The menu was smaller than similar establishments ,and purported to be of a better standard ,something the waitress said too.After ordering our drinks finally arrived ,we then sat and watched the floor show ,of staff dropping bottles and glasses twice.On another table they brought out the wrong order and missed items off .When food was presented to us 1 dish was wrong ,so they removed both of ours ,and after a loud discussion turned up with 2 replacements .The portions were smaller than other customers had on the next table ,and mine was luke warm.We said nothing paid up and left chalking it to experience.I know im bucking the trend on reviews here ,but that night it seemed that they didn't really want us as customers .

Went to their steak night advertised as 2 sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for 2 people £38.well worth every penny. Succulent tender steaks, crisp chips and onion rings together with cherry tomatoes and a green salad. Nice choice of wines too. Excellent midweek meal for 2 and it didn't break the bank all in very pleasant surroundings.

Went to this restaurant on 17th June based on Trip Advisor Reviews. I guess I expected more based on the reviews. There was nothing wrong, just that my expectations had been raised. The food was well prepared and of good quality and the service was very good and friendly so maybe I'm doing the place a disservice but it just didn't do it for me, sorry.

We liked this place that much that we went twice in two days! We first went just me and my partner, revisiting the next day with my parents. The food was good and came out in good time. The portion sizes are healthy without being overly big. It even passed muster with my father who can find fault with virtually everything! Would heartily recommend.

Visiting from Portsmouth and we were not disappointed food was excellent. Recommend the pizza and the curry. All four of us enjoyed it.

Lovely lunch - excellent chef. Great service - quick (contrast most country pubs). Charming atmosphere - 16th century beams, Cotswold stone. Manageress warm & friendly; and acted on our request to turn down the noise pollution from the kitchen. (Noise: a junk soundtrack that some people would call music.) Large carpark. Level access + kindness for people with disabilities.

Popped in today for a snack lunch. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming, the decor and furnishing are very nice, ladies loo very newly done - excellent. We both chose a ciabatta - house special - very good - lady who served was very nice too. We’re not often passing but will definitely call again if the timing is right. Great for the village to have such a good pub.

The restaurant is very overrated ,our meals were average at best and over priced. The waiting staff were polite, the bar staff however were not. The word ignorant is a suitable description.

Polite and prompt service - very edible food - not the 'same old, same old'. As a vegetarian, I often have a choice of lasagna or risotto or lasagna or risotto. It was very different here, thank goodness.

It was pizza night, i was there with four friends, we had a lovely time,staff very smart, nice old family pub, you could choose your topping and mix and match any of the other topping, or 50p for an extra one, the pizza was large,they even give you a box to take the rest home, which all five of us had to, because they are big, very nice. The pizza cost £12, and you can have any drink with your pizza, i had a G&T;, two had wine two had Brandy and lemonade. We thought it was good value, and the pub was nice too.

We met up with friends, who were visiting the Cotswolds, and chose The Horse & Jockey based on their prices. Although not cheap, they were better than a lot of venues in this neck of the woods, most of which thrive on inflated and pretentious menus, for the tourists doing "...the rural grand tour..."

Great service and an enjoyable meal, we chose the Steak Night on a Wednesday last week, two melt in the mouth sirloin steaks together with a bottle of wine for £35. Charles and Anna and their team will make you welcome plus delicious desserts or home made ice cream from a wide range.

Group of 17 of us (pre booked our meals) all meals arrived at the same time - ie no one was left waiting for theirs. Good home cooked food. Well presented piping hot and very tasty. The tartar/mayo sauce with the scampi was particularly good. Atomosphere was very nice. The weather was one of those extremely hot days in June so the water jugs kept coming.

This is a very popular eating place and you really do need to book or you could be waiting a very long time for a table.Not a big selection of vegetarian options in the main courses but lots of great starters. Food is cooked really well and tastes great.On warm days there is an option to eat outside, either in the front garden or in the back yard which has a nice canopy to keep the sun off you.Staff are really well trained and you get the feeling they really enjoy working there. The owners are also very welcoming and hands on.

A group of 7 friends met at this country pub to celebrate our oldest friends 80th Birthday.While we were having our first drink at the table & studying the menu,our waitress came & took our orders for the starters +mains.The food was cooked to order & when it arrived at the table was piping hot,good value+great taste.Local people and visitors were there which made for a good atmosphere.There is a large carpark +a visit to the toilets ;good clean & tidy.The service was first class with nothing too much trouble.Will certainly come back another day.

I have visited this pub a number of times both with colleagues for a work lunch and in the evening for dinner. On all occasions the food was tasty and well presented, and service was excellent. I'd recommend this pub for anything from a light bite to an special evening dinner.

What a lovely pub! Our first visit and was very impressed with the food and service of this place. We went as a family (myself, hubby and two small children). It was very child friendly and they offered smaller portions of the food for the children.The food was very tasty and filling. I had the scampi and chips, hubby had cod and chips and the kids had pizza and chips. All really decent portion sizes. Staff were friendly and there were some regulars there which we got talking to. We will be returning again soon!

Went for dinner, with my wife ans sister and brother in law. Fantastic service from Bethany, Starters of pate, king prawns and spicy parsnip soup (the best I have ever tasted my wife said). Sausage and mash, hake goujons and cheesy leek puff party were very tasty. I also drink something called a rock shandy, I first came across in Africa, Bethany had not heard of it, but was not fazed and brought back a perfect example of it. Go to the new horse and jockey restaurant and have a really great experience.

I will start by saying that this is a very clean, very warm and pleasant pub. It wasn't particularly busy but I'd advise booking a table. The food was excellent. The pizzas were good value for money and I'd recommend them. The reason I've called it 'excellent but...' is purely down to one member of staff appearing very disinterested. She was quiet miserable and not very welcoming. It's a shame as her demeanour spoilt a perfect visit.

Called in for a Birthday celebration meal, very good and interesting menu, catering for all tastes. Lovely atmosphere in this traditional English Pub. We chose to dine in the convivial bar area rather than in the more formal Dining Room.I had a rather lovely Ribeye Steak... Excellent! My Wife had a Fish dish which was also very good. Nice house wine to round things off.

Excellent food served in a restored listed pub; the quality is a cut above usual pub food. Specials available and varied regularly. There is accommodation available if you want to enjoy the excellent beer and wines or just passing through. The staff together with Charles and Ana will look after you. Why not visit and don't just rely on a review!

Went for a couple of drinks with friends and ended up stopping for dinner. Had a steak that cut like butter with chips that were perfect. Would highly recommend this place any day of the week.

A great place for a family meal or celebration. A nice big car park and a very nice bar and dining environment. A perfectly reasonable wait for the food which was very nice when it came. Nice bitters too.

Ate there with a mate. Shared seafood platter, was excellent. Mackerel pâté really really good. Plenty on sharing platter too. Mains were fresh & plentiful, great burger & chicken medallions. All in all great food, good service, nice pub & drinks and good value.

We found this restaurant sadly disappointing. A glass and cutlery were dirty, as was the table. I would not recmmend and would not go again.

A group of us from the same work came in for a quick order of drinks and some chips/fishfinger sandwiches during our lunch break and we were met at the door and told immediately that the wait would be at least 45mins to 1 hour even for chips! The lady at the bar was incredibly rude and kept tutting as she poured our drinks and then said that we werent allowed to look at the menu until we had all sat down. The manager then overrode her and allowed us to order our chips at the bar. The whole process of getting drinks/ordering 3 plates of chips and 4 sandwiches took 20 mins in itself and we then had to wait 45 mins for our food even though there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant! We certainly won't be going there at lunch again as it took so long we are all having to stay late in work on a friday!
