The Horse and Jockey in Eastleigh

We waited nearly 1 hour and 25mins to get our meal. Eventually we were told they were short staffed. My uncle ordered the sea bass which was such a pathetic sized portion. We ordered 2 veggie wellingtons but these had sold out. We were offered an alternative option instead. Boyfriend order pie and mash but they had no mash so he got chips. We were given a free dessert and a discount on the meal .The staff did their best but overall a very disappointing lunch. It's nowhere near as good as it used to be. :(

Best Sunday Roast I've had in probably 3 years all credit to the Chef and staff who served including twins Stella and Starr. A very warm welcome from Billie you deserve to have real success with your pub you know we'll be back! ATB from Ben and Gita 🫶

My wife and I really enjoy the excellent Sunday lunches. We have to travel about 8 miles to get to the Horse and Jockey but always find it very worth while!

I brought my friend to your restaurant tonight. I had onion rings as a side. They were very grease. I told the member staff. I was given some more at my request. They were just the same. My friends meal was fine apart the chips taster like they were out of a bag. So we were very disappointed with half of the meal.

Despite being landed in it when someone cancelled an order for 250 Sunday lunches they served a sensational roast and with a smile. Would definitely go back again!!

Lamb shack to die for because it might actually kill you. What a sad end to a nice family holiday. We like a fullers pub but unfortunately the two Lamb shanks we ordered were not edible. You couldn’t even cut them with a knife and my dad even tried cave man style eating with his bare hands. Enough was enough and the bar staff refunded us our money for the shanks. They spoke to the chef who actually admitted they shouldn’t have been served. Why serve them in the 1st place. I would guess they were cooked, frozen and cooked again. Certainly not fresh and slow cooked, there was nothing falling off the bone more frozen to the bone. On a positive the lasagne was lovely and the hunter chicken. The starters very basic and the Brie bites are likely out of a frozen packet too. Nice pub for a pint but we won’t eat here again.

My partner and I came across this pub after walking our dog nearby. We were both hungry and were delighted to discover they were still serving food at 4:00pm on a Sunday. We both ordered prawn cocktails, followed by roasts. The starters were absolutely lovely. Crisp, fresh and tasty. The roast were equally delicious, and seemed to be never ending. The beef was tender, the pork beautifully cooked with great crackling, with the hugest, crispest yorkshire puddings! The young serving staff were kind and helpful. The lady behind the bar, not sure if she was landlady or manager (my apologies) was super friendly too. Seems a basic thing, but you’d be surprised how this can be lacking at some pubs. Good choice of beers, perfect for a hot day. We do love a pub meal and can sometimes be left feeling short changed, whether by food quality, or service/friendliness (we love a chat with locals!) but this was honestly a great experience. Lovely pub by the riverside! It was busy which reflects the loyalty of its patrons. We shall absolutely be back!

We had visited the Horse & Jockey before for drinks and meals, where we had always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. But in September the staff were wonderful enough to help us host our wedding reception in their outdoor barn venue. The management were incredibly accommodating and helped us plan a wonderful event. They put on great appetisers and a main meal and kept us supplied with plenty of drink. All of the staff did a fantastic job and we couldn't have been happier with how the reception turned out.

We were a large group (30+) that booked at the last minute, due to being at the campsite down the road, and fed up with a day of solid rain. Staff were exceptionally helpful, fitting us all in and getting all the food out at pretty much the same time. Beer was also good, always a bonus.

Had a 10oz steak to die for it was out of this world plenty of food staff are fantastic very friendly 👌

First time that we have visited your establishment for years but we are already planning to return. Staff very friendly and helpful and the food was all excellent. I had the wild mushroom risotto and it was probably the best risotto that I have ever had. I am a wheelchair user and the pub is accessible with plenty of room to manoeuvre my chair between tables. Prices were fair for the quality of food served. I think that we may have just found ourselves a new favourite place to have lunch!

We had just paddle boarding up the Hamble and needed a placeto stop, have a drink and a spot of lunch. This place seemed perfect as it’s right next to the river so we planned to stop here. Upon arrival it’s obvious they are set up for river dwellers as there is a paddle board rack and a specific area for river users to have food and drink. It’s a Fullers so you come to expect a good pint but food is pub specific and this place makes it close to the top of the list. We both had a pasta based dish and it was homemade with a good helping of both pasta and sauce. What so makes a pub decent is the service you get and the staff here are attentive and polite. All in all I’d make the paddle board journey again just to stop here for a pint.

Fantastic food clearly cooked by people who know their food. Chicken calabrese was a delight. Would highly recommend as restaurant quality food in a pub setting. Staff are so welcoming.

We went for my mother in law 80th birthday party. Very friendly, kind , wonderful service . Charlotte and the lady at the bar ( sorry cannot remember her name ) both are absolutely great , they made my mother birthday. Food was very good , tasty, full of flavour and good reasonable prices . We are looking forward to return .

23 family members got together for lunch at the Horse and Jockey on Sunday. 14 adults and 9 children. We were so impressed with the food and the service was excellent. We were given our own room and there were side tables for the children to eat together if the wished to. The menu choice was very broad and my dish - sirloin beef was beautifully tender and well presented. The bill at the end of a wonderful day was great too. A big thanks you to all at the Horse and Jockey Well done to all and thank you very much.

A rather disappointing experience. Having visited several times in recent years we expected more The food was only average. I, for instance had a steak and ale pie which was mostly pie with limited content. Wine was of poor quality but service was friendly and attentive. The price was extortionate given the food and drink quality. A great pity.

Had been travelling all day with 3 kids from the North ready for our cruise the following day and (stupidly) hadn’t booked anywhere for an evening meal. Phoned this place as was near to our hotel and I’m so glad we did. So welcoming, didn’t make us feel bad for not booking and told us to to come and they’d find us a table no problem. Food was delicious and much very much appreciated after such a long day. On our next time down there we will definitely go here again and will be sure to book too just in case!

We went here for Sunday dinner. We had a delicious roast. Generous size portions or good quality products. The waitress who served us was helpful and very friendly. We left very happy and full.

Very enjoyable lunch today. Despite being busy the serving staff were charming, helpful and relaxed.. Even getting the cricket score for some of our group! We will be back.

This was our first time at the Horse and Jockey having driven past on numerous occasions and we decided to come with family for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It all started well getting drinks but it then took about 20 minutes for someone to come back and take our order. Three of the party had starters the rest not, but it then took about 30 minutes for starters to come out. By the time we had our mains we had been there for an hour and a quarter, a long time for those that did not have a starter. The chicken calabrese was very nice but the cannelloni dishes were just ok. Two of the party had steak and they weren't wowed by it given the price. One of the issues was that nothing was served on hot plates which means it doesn't stay hot for long. The cost of the meal was high and sadly the food did not live up to the price. We were all left feeling underwhelmed which was a shame as we all wanted to come and eat here. We can't see ourselves going back unfortunately.
