Read the reviews but were disappointed. Very slow service, Sunday lunch and pay extra for mashed potato (!!), and the lemon tartan desserts were bland and stodgy. Sorry, but we won't be back. We'll stick to the Scotter/Scotton pubs and restaurants.

We were all disappointed with the meal and we will not be coming again . The belly pork was over priced at 18.95 !! It was a small bit of cracking with two or three shreds of pork and that was it .. if you don’t mind paying for a plate full of mash then I guess 18-95 is a bargin !! Chips were over cooked im sure they had been cooked several times and even cold which surprised me .. I love my food and eat almost anything but this is a place we won’t be returning to .

We came in for meal to try food as we would be taking friends out the following wk. Hand pull beer was superb and food was very good, so booked for following wk. Not so good this time. Two had risotto which was really stodgy, one had lamb shank, which could have been cooked longer as incredible difficult to get off the bone, also served in a dish????. Previous wk had the Cherry rum bread and butter pudding drizzled with dark chocolate, delicious 😋. So had again, it was only bread and butter pudding. (Was still nice), but made a comment to waitress who said it was the "pot washer" that had prepared desserts????. No doubt we would have had some cherry rum and chocolate had it been prepared by the chef. We didn't send it back as we assumed the menu must have changed. Really disappointed with our visit 😕

The staff are friendly and helpful, the ambiance is that of a traditional pub but the dining is way above what you’d expect from a pub. The food was brought to us with very little waiting time, we visited at around 5pm so I don’t know what the wait is like later on. Everything on the plate was delicious and very well presented. The chicken burger and chips were the best I’ve had anywhere and the portion sizes are generous without being ridiculously huge. My dessert was also excellent. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food being served. The pub itself is clean and the toilets immaculate. A first class dining experience in a fairly local pub I’d never actually tried before. I’ll definitely be back and now know where to bring visiting friends and relatives.

Excellent food, lovely bar staff, but ladylady was rude beyond belief! As a returning customer, we knew the food was going to be excellent & we weren't disappointed. There was a nice ambience, perfect for catching up with friends. The bar & table service was slow, but the staff were polite and friendly. However, the impertinence of the landlady was unbelievable! Having had an unusual amount of sediment in my glass of Malbec , I politely & discreetly mentioned it to the staff (& yes, I do understand that sediment in some wines is perfectly normal, it was just very unpleasant crunching my last sip of wine & trying to rid the gritty pieces from my mouth, so thought I'd let them know). The landlady came over to discuss it and on approach to us said 'oh its not you ladies in the corner, is it?' Due to the informalilty we assumed she must know one of us (but turns out none of us did!), she then proceeded to tell us how we were clearly not used to drinking sophisticated, unfiltered wine, kept asking where we bought our wine from (insinuating that as she buys from Majestic & drinks wine in France she clearly knew her stuff & we didn't!), then made reference to the fact that they only stock Malbec & Pinot as these were the most 'boring' wines that all the 'boring' wine drinkers ask for. Clearly we should have ordered the Primitivo which is her favourite along with the Chatauneuf Du Pape which she tried getting us to taste (Thanks, but I know what it tastes like & we've just shared a bottle of your heavily sedimented, boring, Malbec... it would also appear that you've already drunk most of that bottle you're holding - which you only serve on special occasions anyway!). I am not usually one to complain, but I've never felt so offended & was disgusted at her assumptions about us. And as she clearly knew the wine had sediment in it (from previous customer mentions!), then why not at least decanter the wine... or at least learn how to speak with people about the wines, not down to them, making assumptions & trying to belittle them. Us 'boring' 'uneducated' and 'untravelled' wine drinkers will drink elsewhere in the future... What a shame. (P.S. we're all well travelled, have drunk wine for many years, and educated to degree level or higher. I too have been a licensee in my day & I would never have even contemplated speaking to customers in this manner. Rude.

We called in for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were welcomed by friendly staff, the food was beautiful and nothing was too much trouble. My parents had the wednesday offer of 2 Steaks and a bottle of wine for £30. The steaks were cooked perfectly and i can honestly say were superior to any I've been served in expensive steak restaurants in major cities. I had the salmon and dill fishcakes which were fresh and perfectly cooked. My other half had the Horn burger which almost out faced him (in a good way ) he ordered onion rings too.... they were fresh made and not greasy, best onion rings in years! The Horn Inn gets a 10/10 from us and we will definitely be back. Thanks for making us so welcome too.

Sunday 28th August 2022 was a very important day for my Mum. It was her 90th birthday and more than anything she wanted to get all her family together from all around the country, all four generations as it was the first time ever we had all been together. There were 14 adults, one children and one baby. I live in Shropshire, 2 and a half hours away but contacted The Horn to see if they could accommodate us all, which they were happy to do. I used to live in Scunthorpe. There were two cars that travelled from Shropshire, one car from Windsor, one car from Northumberland and a car from Scunthorpe On arrival there were some lovely birthday decorations arranged by Kate, which my Mum loved. Drinks were very quickly ordered once everyone was there and because I'd asked The Horn for the menu before hand we had all chosen our meals, most of us going full out, three courses. All the starters came out quickly and no one had to wait. The starters chosen varied from mushrooms, bruschetta, camembert shared between two using artisan crusty bread, and fish cakes. I saw everyone tucking in and all starters looked lovely. No one complained and I know from asking everyone if they enjoyed them, which was a resounding yes. The mains choices, everyone except one had a roast, the exception had mushroom Wellington which he enjoyed. The roasts, either beef, lamb or pork belly came with roasts spuds, mash, red cabbage which I think had a hint of cinnamon through, cauliflower, broccoli, stuffing cored parsnips, which everyone thought were a great hit, yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. I know everyone enjoyed their mains, my brother on law has stated it was one of the best roasts he has ever had, very generous serving, perfectly cooked veg. I had the pork belly which was soft and delicious and the crackling strong enough to withstand a knife and fork but not my teeth once I picked it up and devoured it. The sweets choices chosen were posset, creme brulee, ice cream, lemon drizzle, chocolate fudge cake, cheesecake. Again everyone enjoyed this course and this course and the mains had all come out together so no one was left waiting. It's unusual when a restaurant cooks for such a large party that someone doesn't have a slight issue with something, oh this is cold , oh this is over done, we're waiting for someones meal, you know the sort of thing that can happen but honestly there was not one issue. All The food was lovely. To be honest I think I was ready to burst, but not complaining. The cheesecake was pistachio. I didn't know before hand it was pistachio, I don't think I would have chosen that if I'd known but I enjoyed it. It was a generous size and lovely with cream. This was a perfect example of how good local food can be. Thank you to all the staff who looked after us. Thanks to Kate, Steve and Jacqui for making my Mums day so special as the service and food contributed massively to her perfect day. She's still on cloud nine. I think its important to review restaurants to let readers know you had a good or bad experience. This was a good experience. I've had a couple of meals here in recent times and on both occasions the food was lovely. If I lived in Scunthorpe I would definitely visit here on a regular basis, it's great pub, nice staff and serves great food

Update. Like most places now it ain't cheap with prices up to what I'd expect to pay in london (£6-8 starters £13-20 mains £5 deserts) but it is still good and my only gripes are a bit silly. For example, why call them bbq ribs when they have clearly never seen a bbq? Why do I only get 2 onion rings when the guy on the next table, paying the same amount, gets 7? (they were awesome!). I will add though that the childrens meals were freshly made (no oven chips, no frozen rubbish) and my kids really enjoyed it!

Lovely old fashioned pub and very clean. The many Staff are 'excellent' and atentive and really do look after the populace. The food was OK! not so excellent as was expecting and was looking forward to, this is for a Saturday evening. A lot on the menu was not available, then when we did order and received, 2 of the dishes were not very good for the price of £30 each, infact, we would have paid £10 only for. Also the wine collection for our meals, again, not enough choice and what there was, was poor quality we received. A pub not having a Rioja or Merlot, come on!! So, we do not know if the usual chef was off on this night, or they were waiting for orders of wine, either way, we will try again and see if it will be any different next time as we live in the village.

First visit having moved to the village 6 months ago. Waited an hour for food, steak arrived uncooked despite requesting medium, when requested it be cooked a little more it still returned incorrectly cooked. Steak was expensive so requested to discuss bill with manager who advised that all food cooked fresh hence the wait (does it really take an hour to fry some fish and chips and veggie curry? These dishes were OK though). Manager refused to admit there was anything wrong with steak but on this occasion agreed refund, which was fine as won’t be dining there again.

A little disappointed really, service was really good, but the food average - ordered the chicken kebab which was just okay, not brilliant. But the most disappointing aspect was ordering our dessert, but as we were after 9pm the kitchen had closed. We were late diners, arrived at 8.15 but when we ordered our main we mention we would like a dessert so when we were faced ordering and told, sorry the kitchen is now closed, we were left very disappointed indeed - not good really as the staff should have really come to us, but didn't. Ho hum - we dined out the second evening, great meal locally, far superior food and service.

Booked with friends for Sunday breakfast 10.30 am. We arrived just after 10.30. We were the only customers - no problem as we had lots of catching up to do. Ordered drinks which arrived promptly and after a while our orders were taken for breakfast. Then we waited and waited and waited.... Probably about 11 30 after I'd chewed my elbow off the food arrived. It was ok. I had the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Lovely but an extra egg to actually cover the (1) piece of sourdough would have been appreciated. So disappointing ... The place is so lovely and the decor absolutely amazing. We will definitely try evening as the reviews sound so good but very disappointed today

Popped in here on an ad-hoc detour to get something to eat & drink (5pm ish). Building looked like an old fashioned type of place and advertised food outside the front door. Parking in the old stable courtyard around the back. Tight bar, low ceilings but offered good ales. The chef spotted as and told us that if we wanted food, Stew and Dumplings were fresh and a special of the day. Very much a locals pub, bar flies were friendly, TV on with no sound (News) and best of all. NO MUSIC and could have a conversion without shouting over any noise. Grub was bang on (Stew, dumplings, mash and veg) and a massive portion. £8 quid. Mrs. had Scampi, a mountain of chips and a lorry load of peas which she said was really good. Also £8 quid. Great pub, great grub, well poured beer and nice welcome surroundings. Rough and ready, no frills good honest place.
