Visited 3 times this week as part of the Junk soul smothered vegan takeover We normally visit once a week for a sandwich and coffee.Fab oat lattes, JSS burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast are amazing. Fully vegan outlet in the airstream trailer. I’d love it I’d Junk Soul Smothered became a permanent fixture!

Try to pop in on a lunchtime for a quick bite. They usually have 1 vegan dessert in and a few vegan options on the menu. Some of the vegan items that are on the menu are not obvious. You can order the loaded nachos as vegan, (vegan cheese, guacamole and salsa) so just ask if you’re not sure. ✔️ When they have the salted caramel torte in I highly recommend trying that. Vegan or not vegan if you like a pudding you will love it. I’d like to see more vegan items on the menu. Anyone can eat vegan food and pre 3rd COVID they were really good at catering for vegans

Wonderful vegan burger here, but also a great array of other sandwiches and snacks available. Smoothies today were grand as well. Well laid-out placing of tables and cleaning regimes, and staff helpful and courteous, as always. Can also attest to the music venue here being top notch for an independent place, always plenty of beers and local bands.

Been again to Cafe Indie with vegan crowd, had a wonderful meal, with great service and lovely atmosphere. Have been many times and never disappointed, so say all my friends.Just one comment...a plea really...will you please, please consider allowing dogs In??? Mine has separation anxiety, so had to leave her in the car and was worried throughout the meal. Most dogs are well-behaved, and you could have a clause to eject people whose dogs weren’t.Would you consider a trial basis? A similar set-up to Indie; Moon on the Water in Cleethorpes allows dogs, and I gather from the owner they have had no trouble. Many, many thanks in anticipation.

We went as part of a group for a vegan meet up which cafe indie had opened up in the evening for. Their menu was great! Burritos, Big Mac, spiral tart, African peanut soup plus chocolate brownie! And all vegan! Everyone really enjoyed the food and we had some lovely cake after too. They serve old mout cider which is SFV and even have vegan options on their regular menu now. Hope we can support this fab place again in the future! If anyone would like to meet other vegans in the area please join the FB group vegans of Scunthorpe and surrounding areas.

We really enjoyed our first visit to this excellent cafe which also operates as a cooperative providing many benefits to young people. From the Vegan Thursdays menu we opted for the fishless sandwich with wedges and the pizza swirls. The fishless sandwich comprised of a white roll with 3 'fish fingers', homemade tartare sauce, vegan cheese, chunky wedges and salsa. This was very tasty but I thought the homemade pizza swirls were even better. Puff pastry with freshly made passata, artichoke hearts, black olives, garlic, Italian herbs and melted cheese with a nice mixed salad. This lunch hit the spot and afterwards we had a chat with the friendly and pleasant staff to tell them how much we enjoyed the meal and wishing them all the best for the future.

So pleased that cafe INDIEpendent have cottoned on the to the fact that vegans will travel for vegan food and are very willing to pay. They’re the first place in Scunthorpe to have a dedicated ‘vegan day’. They’re pulled jackfruit sandwiches have proved very popular and are pretty good. Visited with my daughter one afternoon and was a bit concerned that the server didn’t know what I was asking for but then when you realise that the staff are mainly volunteers then it makes sense. This place is great for Scunthoroe but I would love to see it go fully vegan (like moon on the water in cleethorpes). In the meantime I would like to see them have more vegan options on the daily menu and not just on Thursday. A vegan dessert option available daily would definitely pull the vegan community in. But for now we’ll just have to be enticed by the jackfruit bun. If you can make it Thursdays watch out for their vegan Thursdays menu by liking their Facebook page and feel free to join vegans of Scunthorpe and surrounding areas or vegans of north Lincolnshire Facebook page (or both).

They have retro arcade games, a guitar you can play, books you can read. The basement area where the gig was is really small - was perfect for seeing an up and coming band! Drinks were reasonable price and the staff all friendly (I think most of them are volunteers) It's great in the day too, we have lots of work meetings there and it always has a relaxed vibe throughout the day.If you're going, it's a cash only bar..plenty of cash machines just down the road though. Will definitely be going to another gig there!

Popped into Cafie Indie earlier to look at the new Cooperative initiative. Was impressive with many hooks to entice members and keep them. One such is to get your membership card stamped after attending 5 gigs and get a freebie next time. That was enough for me. We love Cafe Indie. Sure, it could be a bit cleaner, but then it also could be yet another bland corporate horror on the high street. What it actually is, is a friendly, relaxed and pleasantly weird place which doesn't fail to leave us full and happy. Children are well-catered for, encouraged and expected to make noise and play; provided with a playhouse, toys, piano etc. This increases the amount of time and money I spend here exponentially. The staff are always polite and helpful and the food options change periodically, but they don't make the mistake of having 40000 options. Just a few really good things. Had a bloody amazing steak & blue cheese pie last time, which I literally scoffed down with great relish. Cakes are lovely, real baking not that horrible chain-cafe foam cake..It reminds me of other independent cafes in bigger cities, which is a very welcome concept in Scunthorpe. It does good things for the community. It has live music (and good music when it's not live) It has lots of random objects sprinkled around to look at. You can truly spread out and relax. I'd say go here!

Cafe Indie is a not-for-profit community endeavour. I am a huge fan of independent cafes, and with the added impetuous of the great work they're doing helping young people with learning disabilities gain some useful work experience, I really wanted his to be good but it's pretty awful. They have gone all out for a shabby chic, arty graffiti vibe which looks great in photos but the truth is the place is smelly and urgently needs cleaning. I have no problems with the service which was charming and not too long a wait for our tea and latte. The product was good but £4.50 for two hot drinks is on the pricey side, 50p more than the equivalent in Costa, for example. I'm afraid I was reluctant to ry the food. The actual toilet in the ladies loo was spotless but the cubicle, sinks, hand-dryer etc. were pretty mucky. If it is Indie Cafe's intention to give these young people realistic experience of working in a cafe, they must start with the basics of hygiene, other wise an excellent community inititative is doomed to fail, and fairly soon.

Cafe Indie is an amazing place. I've been in often and the staff try their very best. I get quite annoyed when I hear people tutting and moaning that they are waiting so long on being served etc. This place gives young people with learning disabilities a chance to work on their confidence, social skills in the hope they can secure employment in the big wide world. If you cant be a bit more tolerant, maybe you shouldn't bother going.

Wasn't going to leave a review but as a customer 3 times in 10 days on a Christmas break I felt I had to.On my first visit they mixed up a cappuccino with a flat white... happy to forgive and buy another coffee! Leaving us a bit out of pocket..Second visit with my mum they charged us wrong.. someone had to come and sort the till but made it look like a massive effort. And today the guy poured boiling hot water on my leg, his reaction was so slow my friend had to alert him to my squealing to which he said "oh the barista filled it too high".I ran off to the toilet to try and put my leg under cold water which clearly wasn't practical so had to cup the water and throw it at myself. Nobody came to my assistance apart from my mum who said they might bring me some cooling gel. After 5 minutes nobody came and I had to go hunt down the first aid kit and a guy said he would let me apply the gel due to its "position high up on my leg!" My mum bandaged me up and no apologies or discount was offered.Really disappointed.

Lets make one thing clear this place is great for the town so this revue will be kind as there are just a few niggle points you should know about.I think this venue is great for bands, acts and anything that entertains. As a place to eat i'm not sure whether it is the right place to go. Please don't knock me i'm only being honest; initially, correct me if i'm wrong but this venue was updated and renovated via charity funding and most of the workers are volunteers? My hat goes off to all involved. I went to see a couple of bands recently and ordered a can of Carling then the shock came when the guy said £4 please. What? Come on, that is wrong on many levels and consequently that was my only drink all night! If priced reasonably they would have benefited far greater in the long run. Food was not even considered. The sad news of this venue is it suffers from damp. Unfortunately your clothes soak it all up and by the time you get home you and your clothes need a dam good wash. If there is anyone out there that can help this venue please go on do us a favor and sort out the damp.... Pleeeeaase?

Been here quite a bit over the last year and its a real pleasure to see Café INDIE process evolving. The Cafe and Venue itself is indeed an interesting, quirky and out of the ordinary place. But this is only the box that contains and protects the process and It's also no accident.Open you mind, visit Cafe INDIEpendent and allow the process to unfold in front of your eyes. You'll notice immediately upon your first visit it is visually quite different, you too are now in an environment that is not something you are entirely used to or indeed possibly entirely at ease with initially. This enhances the sensation of the experience, you may be slightly out of your own comfort zone until you too become part of the process. Its seldom a quiet place and the staff won't be standing around with their arms crossed, more likely they will be a dressed to reflect their individual personality. Hey they may even wear a hat or a beard !Look around and you'll also notice an enormous variety of visitors, very young, cool dudes, students, middle aged, balding, hairy, you name it they come and enjoy being one together.INDIE is above all Inclusive, everyone is very welcome and it really shows. Those working in the Café are part of a training scheme aimed at encouraging and mentoring confidence and experience in a customer facing environment. Generally the individuals themselves are initially well outside their comfort zone but the process you've experienced in the first few minutes is what the scheme does for these young people every second of every day. When you've watched shrinking violets blossom into outgoing, personable and warm confident young people as a result of Café INDIE's process you will then fully understand the place.Meanwhile you'll be warmly welcomed and it may be a bit noisy, or even on occasions just quite deliberately different, but it will always be Inclusive - and that's good !Keep it up guys & girls !

We've been to all three so far and the effort put in by the staff - and particularly the chef! - has made each evening highly pleasurable. An intimate and low-cost way to enjoy dining out. Last night was Mexican food and the whole experience was spectacular without being vulgar. Cafe Indie wins again.

Scunthorpe desperately needs a nice bohemian bolt hole but this place is unreliable if you are expecting the place to have the menu it offers at the times it is supposed to be offered. They do burgers on certain nights a week, it's the only thing they have on the menu for evening food and after discovering it was only a night time thing on the first visit, we went back on Friday night only to be told they had no burger meat prepared? So that left us no alternative but to leave and have tea somewhere else - this place has so much wasted opportunity to waste money and the unreliability to fulfil what they claim to offer is probably the reason the place always seems dead when we go in.

I went with friends for their newly launched Red Tent Event - a once a month ladies only night. I love this place anyway as the atmosphere is so relaxed, and this event lived up to expectations. Food was provided for a donation, Sticky Glazed Chicken or Aubergine Parmigiana, Roasted veg cous cous, salad & bread, followed by chocolate brownies, all of which were amazing. Really easy going atmosphere where you could chill out with friends, and we'll be back next month (the third Thursday in the month for anyone wondering).

Café Indie have recently started doing themed evening once a month and they kicked it off with Tapas Evening. We arrived a little after 8pm and were greeted with a glass of cava. We were seated at our table for the evening and welcoming us were two addressed cards, a nice little touch with a little personalised message inside. We already knew what we were eating, as the menu was available beforehand. The waiter took our drinks order and promptly returned with drinks and the starters. For starters we had a selection of cold meats, cheese and olives, which was all served with crusty bread. This was an excellent start to the meal and all good quality and a far portion. A little wait for the mains, again beautifully presented. We had patatas bravas, chorizo chick pea stew and lamb meatballs with a spicy tomato sauce, again all well-cooked oozing with flavour. The desert was zesty lemon sorbet served in the lemon rind, a perfect end to the meal. The service was fantastic as always and to end the meal we had a cappuccino and a bottle of real ale. It was a great evening and well-priced at £37.50 with a bottle of good quality merlot and post meal drinks. I cannot wait until the next one. Well done Café Indie, this place just keeps on getting better :) See photographs of the amazing food...

This eccentric place has an intriguing ambience and attitude that I have only ever experienced once in East Europe. It is relaxed and friendly enough to meet a friend for coffee and snacks, read a book, have a sleep or chat with the easy going laid back proprietors. I jus cant pin this weird but relaxing experience down! Good coffee. Try it!

dont be scared of the hipsters and the ponchos - it's the best and most relaxed place in Scunthorpe. As well as great drinks and food you get Blue Moon on tap, some fantastic bands and enough pop up activities and events to satisfy anyone. A credit to the town.Kids love it too.

Visited this place few times since it opened. I love the mismatched tables and chairs, and other quirky stuff. They do serve "posh" sandwiches, which are very good. I heard they are serving breakfast nowadays. I might pop in and try some of that. I'd recommend it to anyone. They even have a small space for kids to play.

Wednesday 10th June we were invited to review the brand new menu at Cafe INDIEpendent, 169-173 High Street, Scunthorpe. As you will know if you have ever visited or heard of Cafe INDIEpendent they are a lottery funded project that help young people in many different ways, one of the main ways is teaching them skills in a place of work, so a lot of the staff you will see around you will be volunteers. We always expect something a little different from the venue as they pride their selves on being pretty quirky. There is nowhere else like it in town. So down to the burgers, we went to review the handmade/homemade style burgers ...Read More via our website.WWW.SCUNTHORPENIGHTS.CO.UK

I am completely in support of this not-for-profit community asset.David Plumtree and his cheery, hardworking and eager to please staff are a breath of fresh air. I have had the privilege of watching shy, gauche young kids transform into confident, happy young adults through their shared experience.Given the ethos and raison d'etre behind this venture it is doubly surprising that the food and coffee is so bloody brilliant! Quality of product and service is unmatched. The evening entertainment, provide by local promoters and artists, is eclectic and suits every demographic.Every time I visit, there is something new/improved or being tried out. It is constantly evolving and improving itself. And long may it continue.Do yourself a huge favour and drop by and see for yourself.Coffee and cake from 7am or beer and live music after 7pm, you will not be disappointed.

We enjoyed our evening and the locals were very welcoming as a few Gillingham supporters visiting Scunthorpe for the match we stayed on for there end of season bash(Flag Day).A few players attended and the welcome we got throughout our vist puts many other clubs fans to shame. The bar cafe itself served some really nice beer really ales and a american lager on tap called Blue moon that was really fresh and enjoyable. We also had a Pie and peas that were most welcome and pleasing to taste. The place was packed and there was live music. It has a modern bare look with comfortable chairs upstairs and a more open ground floor with a bar full of real ales for Lager drinkers there is another bar in the basement. The staff were friendly the lady who was running things was clearly on the ball. Many of the other staff were clearly new and a bit green but pleasant. They clear believe in giving people a chance to learn the ropes. All in all I enjoyed the visit a would recommend it to others to try for themselves.

Just what Scunthorpe has been crying out for - a venue to have a coffee and a chat during the day and also to enjoy great music in the evening without worrying about the vertical drinking and where everyone is welcome and fits in! We've popped in a few times for a coffee and a sandwich (thoroughly recommend the posh pastrami on Polar bread; it's amazing). We've also been to gigs in the evening and at the weekend - especially recommend the folk night. Look out for the fabulous supper club - valentine's day was a great first attempt at it. The service is charming and friendly and the caring ethos and desire to do something for the benefit of the community makes it a project I will continue to support.

Cafe Indiependent is run by young people, for young people. It helps train staff so that they are ready for the jobs market, but the ambience is wonderful, the staff friendly, the coffee amazing and the food is good too. I particularly enjoyed the pizza - it had the genuine wood oven taste.Cafe Indie is an entertainment venue too - they have a wide range of really interesting stuff happening, especially in the evenings. Lots of music styles, films, even the occasional debate. And to emphasise how different it is, you can buy a suspended coffee while you're there: the cash is kept ready for when a homeless person needs a warm drink. How heartwarming is that? - It's definitely worth a try.

We have visited Café Indie many times since it opened last February. Food: The food is excellent. I highly recommend the Pastrami sandwich. I do not think you will find a better cup of coffee in Scunthorpe. The cakes are amazing and I also like the pancakes. Gigs: We have been to numerous gigs. There is a good selection of beers and ciders, at a reasonable price. The service is always fantastic and you can guarantee a warm welcome. For relaxing during the day, coffee with friends, a bite to eat or a great gig- Café Indie is the place to be.

Cafe Independant (Cafe Indie) Located at the top of Scunthorpe High Street this is a recently set up coffee shop, funded by the national lottery, which supports local young people into work and work experience. We were told to visit here by a friend and were pleasantly suprised at how nice it is. First of all, the decor is wonderful - you would think you were sat in the middle of Camden, London! Hung from the ceiling are a mix of colourful opened umbrellas, there are old bikes, posters, books, wall art and graffiti (tasteful!) There is also a large play area for children consisting of a large wooden play house, seating, toys, books, a mini piano that has been painted, and more. A very pleasant waiter explained to us that during the day coffee/brunch is served with the evenings being for open mic nights, local bands and musicians, rock opens and film nights etc. The building is on three floors - the entry floor being the main coffee area/play area, the 'basement' being where the bands/musicians perform, and the top floor is seating area along with toilet facilities. We didn't order any food so for that reason we haven't rated the food, however the tea/coffee was served in very kitsch coffee mugs/teapot.The music was also very pleasant to listen too a mix of ska, rock, indie, classic rock. If you are looking for a coffee shop with a difference then we urge you to try this place. Unlike the main chain coffee places, here you can sit back, relax to good music, admire the wonderful surroundings, and let your children explore, all the while helping the new generation into work. We will be going back for coffee again soon, and plan on visiting at night for some of the musicians/band nights.

By night a great music venue and social scene for young (and older) people. Cafe Indiependant is a social project to help improve the lives of young people - but is still a great place for us older folk. Lots of gigs and events on so worth checking whats happening and when.
