Visited Stalinist today ,Friday 14 th October ( shocking) the food excellent..but…we sat down at 1/4 to 12 , Order finally taken , people arrived after us , served promptly ..I asked why? Waiting COD ( ok , I accept that) nearly half hour later ,I asked again and the waitress brought our order…mine was wrong..said so,politely, so was told no that’s what you ordered ..DONT think so ,cod bites!!!! So it went back ,my cod WITH PEAS( didn’t order peas) was put in front of me and away she went …..asked another lady could she sort it out please I hate peas …came back eventually,by then I just wanted to leave ……awful ,just awful experience…….WHAT REALLY TOOK THE P*** was when regulars,came in said ,” usual please and they were served” …….will not be returning…too stressful .... Received a reply, stating I was a difficult person,because of past reviews...have only been twice and I gave a glowing report...why be nasty?

I've been using this place for years and have no idea why I had never done a review before. At the front is the take-away. In the past I would have put it amongst the best Fish and Chips in the area but not so much now. I understand the economic difficulties facing these stores at the moment but the standard here has undoubtedly declined. At the rear is the restaurant which I'm guessing has around 80 covers. I was there at a little before midday which not that long ago was a time when it may be necessary to queue to get a seat in the restaurant. The menu is more restricted than it used to be. Haddock, Cod, Sausage, Steak Pie, Fish Bites, Chips and, Mushy Peas. That's all I can remember no Plaice or anything at all interesting. The service was quickish and payment easy.

Excellent food at a reasonable price

I enjoyed the fish and chips with mushy peas, service was quick and efficient and the restaurant was very busy as was the take away service staff were very friendly and attentive. I used to go there quite often before the lockdown and I will definitely be going again regularly, the batter was crisp and tasty and the fish was delicious the chips were cooked to perfection. This restaurant is well worth a visit to all who have never been there try it you will not be disappointed

Due to lockdown our usual fish shop remained closed. Scalinis had been recommended to us a couple of times so decided to give it a try. Tried haddock, chips and peas special. Phoned at 4.30 and told it would be delivered by 6.15 as very busy. Arrived at 6.15. Packed in thick paper bag, each meal in separate carton, still remarkably hot. Very tasty, best fish and chips for a long time. Reasonably priced just £1 delivery. Will use again and well recommended.

Probably the best chip shop in town, always visit when I’m in the area. Specials are great value, now and then it’s a little bit busy, but can’t be helped. Great freshly made chips for your money- would always recommend 100%

I was working in the area this morning (I'm an electrician). After the job, at 8.30am, my colleague and I called in for breakfast. It was £4.50 including a proper Cappuccino. The food was lovely and the service was perfect. Even swapped out my free toast for an extra hash brown, because I'm allergic to gluten. Highly recommended!! I travel a lot in my job and rarely come across genuine hidden gems like this.

I had the fish and chips for a quick lunch and thought it was brilliant. The food came out very promptly And was very good value.

Sadly, service let this restaurant down. Order was wrong, mushy peas arrived instead of beans. These were clearly just scraped off, as the mushy peas were under the fish and spoilt it. Bread and butter didn't arrive, although asked for twice. Apologies and coffee knocked off the price. However, experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Whilst the food was good the service was appalling. Requested beans instead of peas, but meal came with peas. When told the peas where replaced with beans but, the underside of the fish was still costed in peas. I also asked for bread and butter which did not come with the meal. I got up from my seat to remind the server but still it was not bought. The server did remove the cost of the coffees but it still is not right that because its nearly the end of the day, quality should be lowered. The meal costs the same at the start of the day as at the end, so service should remain at the same level.

The food here is always consistently great. Lovely little restaurant. The only cafe in my opinion who know how to serve up a proper salad, the ham is fantastic. The staff members are all friendly, nothing's too much trouble. 5 stars from me.

Called in here today with a friend before a meeting. Always take the kids in the summer,they’re fans. Today we ordered two fish and chip specials in the restaurant. Lady that served us was dying with toothache but really lovely and personable. The fish and chips from here have never had a complaint from me so far and didn’t today either. This is by far the best chippy around

While out shopping. We dicided to call in for a spot of lunch. As usual it was busy.I selected the special. Wich was sweet and sour pork.With half chips and rice. I really enjoyed it. The service was excellent. They have a very good menu with plenty to choose from. At reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend.

Been a long time since I last came, still does a very nice homemade fishcake and curry sauce. However, service could have been quicker.

Back again for another quick lunch after a morning cinema visit. The food is great, reasonably priced, and arrives quickly. Just be careful of the floor in the cafe - it's very slippery in we weather & the chairs don't have a great grip on it so you can shoot backwards very quickly if you're unprepared.

Nice meals. Well cooked and not always busy. You have the option to take out one side or eat in the other not the best chippy in town in my eyes but definitely not the worst.

We went today for a late lunch and I've got to say it was a very disappointing experience considering the quality of the food on previous visits! We arrived just after 3pm and it was very unclear as to if you could still sit in to eat. We ordered 2 fish specials plus a can of pop, we had to clarify every part of our order and never received the pop which luckily I could live without as this was in addition to the hot drink that came with our meal. The food when it came was only what I can describe as average, the chips were tasteless, there was very little fish in the batter and the peas were hard. On previous occasions I have found scalinis to be exceptional in their quality and service however unfortunately this wasn't the case today. I won't be returning in a hurry, and by the way I don't care what you was drinking last time you went out or what route you take on your way home!!!!

Lovely staff but for some reason the fish n chips today were dry and cold.why not offer a free cold drink with meal not everyone wants a hot drink.

Came here for some fish and chips as my mum keeps raving about how good it is,so we went and were glad we did,the fish was perfectly cooked as were the chips.we will definitely be back.

I decided a day out in sunny sunny as I call it was due. Come dinner time I came across scalinis. I was in my power chair and thought access was going to be a problem as small steps were at both entrances. The very kind lady dining outside told the staff I was there and a small ramp was brought which gave me access to the restaurant. Although a little tight inside this busy place, the lovely staff gave me a suitable table and dining was a wonderful experience. A return visit is is on the cards.

Dry cold chips. The tables are very rickety spilling you drink everytime you moved

Spent £1.60 on a portion of chips. Had three or four, the rest went in the bin. Green potatoes, tasteless, badly cooked, generally disgusting. Very disappointed.

We visit Scalinis on a regular basis. We always si in the restaurant. Its nothing fancy but its clean and tidy and te staff are great. The service is always quick and friendly . The food is great, cooked to order and the best fish and chips in the area.

Was told this was a good fish and chips shop, after googling it, online said open until 20.00, arrived at 19.25 on the way to the cinema and the place was closed, massive disappointment

Been here several times with family and really enjoyed the fish dinner i had it wasnt until recently i decided to op for something different....i chose a full english breakfast i Wish i hadnt as i think this had also been cooked in the fryers dont be put off by this just stick to the fish and chips!

Went into Scunthorpe with hubby to start on the Christmas shopping, we decided we were hungry so ordered the fish and chips with curry sauce . the food was lovely and hot and we both agreed it was the nicest piece of fish we had eaten in a long time and the chips were cooked to perfection. the staff are lovely so friendly and helpful and credit to the business We will definitely make a return visit

We recently visited Scalinis to celebrate a friends 98th birthday The staff were very friendly, freshly cooked fish and chips, mushy peas all spot on. at the end of our excellent meal we were so surprised, a complimentary slice of cake with a candle was brought for the birthday girl a lovely thoughtful gesture. Popped into the only cafe i will ever go to in scunthorpe, after comjng into this place since i was 13 ywars and now 33 i am still amazed by the food service they provide, the customer service is fantastic, excellent food, always hot and the coffee is perfect. Alot has changed over the ywars obviously although still keeping the plqce upto date and the staff and fantastic. I would recommend this place over everywhere in town. Pop in and see the great service and staff for yourselves.

What can I say, this place is a legend, the people running it might change but for food quality and customer satisfaction this place cannot be beaten. Had the mini fish and chips, absolutely spot on. They are also licensed so I had a beer with it. As good as they were decades ago, a guaranteed satisfying stop in Brigg.
