I went to the Hop Pole Inn for a friend's birthday. Best pie I have ever had - just wonderful. Have ordered a pile for home. Genuinely huge range of great beers - I did not get through the many I wanted to try

One of the remaining “Aylesbury old pubs.” Friends suggested we met there. Didn’t realise it was having a beer festival, standing room only. A great selection of beers and spirits in the front bar but buy a card for the festival beers, many to choose from. The atmosphere was buzzing everyone interacting with each other. The food was amazing great bites to eat, the loaded fries were absolutely a favourite . Have already promised myself a return for beer and chips. The gentleman serving the food definitely got his steps in he was delivering food all day/night The bar staff were very friendly and even though it was busy you didn’t wait long for service. After a few different beers we discovered a caramel Rum. Let’s just say with live music great beer, friendly staff and customers it was a great night.

Visited here for dinner on a Tuesday evening after our original plans fell through last minute and we were left with nowhere to eat. This place just happened to be nearby so we gave it a go. The pub is very small and seems popular with regulars (seemed like everyone in there aside from us knew each other), the only free table was reserved for an hour after we arrived so we pretty much only got chance to eat before we had to give up the table and with nowhere else available to sit, we left. This was a shame as I'm sure we could've happily spent a few hours in here. Despite this the staff were friendly and service was quick and efficient. The food menu is typical pub grub but very good value and genuinely really nice. We were both pleasantly surprised by how nice our meals were. Would happily visit again if a little quieter.

Pleasant staff, friendly locals and they welcome dogs. The beer is good, the décor in the front bar is welcoming though the back bar is a bit canteen-like in layout, but with wooden tables, the Sunday lunch is very acceptable though their weekday fare is a little unimaginative and not very varied, but good if you like a selection of burgers!

I cycled over (10 miles) for lunch, having checked the website for opening hours, only to find the pub shut and a notice on the gate with updated opening times, for much later in the day. So I cannot judge the quality of the beer or the food. Such a shame since this place had been recommended strongly.

Always a great selection of beers. I've not eaten here yet so can't comment on the food but the beer is exceptionally well kept and there is usually 10 draft beers on tap, yes ten! Ever changing so always worth popping in. If only it was able to open more frequently. Thumbs up 👍

This is a great local pub that combines a wide selection of quality beer and a surprisingly good restaurant - The menu is not extensive and better for it in my opinion - Steak is often over priced and under prepared, here the steak was excellent, cooked perfectly nicely presented and superb value for money, a rare find. Excellent and well worthy of the 5 stars presented here!

We went in for a Christmas drink to start the festive activities as we had just broke up from work, went to the bar and greeted the women (Kirsty) behind the bar and our greetings were not acknowledged just looked at us and wanted to know what we were ordering, not friendly at all, we have been into the pub on many occasions so it is not a case of not knowing who we are. then went onto the next customer and greeted them and with a smile. Will certainly think twice about using this pub again if we are all treated very differently.

I booked a table for myself and three others last week for a vegan and vinyl night that had been advertised previously by the “Hop Pole”. On the day of the event, we found out via Facebook that the night had been postponed to the following week, nevertheless we decided to attend the pub anyway for an evening out. We then arrived to be told that they weren’t even serving food. No one called to tell us that the evening had been postponed, even though I booked way in advance and left my phone number.

Despite it being a 15 min walk outside of town, we deceided to give this venue a visit as it had such good reviews. It was well worth the trip especially as on the day we went they had a beer festival going on. The choice of beers are excellant (including stout/porter) anyway and it has a good range of Belgium beers to drink in and a shop for you to buy them in to take away. Food is also very good and the staff are really freindly and helpful. Its quite large inside so don't be fooled by its small exterior. Its clean and smart inside with some really coomfy seating as well.

My self and a few friends went to the hop pole for a few beers and a bit of grub. The beers are always great and staff friendly. However we decided to have some food consisting of several steaks and a tuna steak. The steaks were by no means cheap so you would hope they would be cocked properly. This is not what happened. The steaks were not cocked by a competent chef who understands how to cock steak. Over cocked burnt and tasted of coal. A waste of a decent animal being slathered.Tuna steak. Well over cocked dry and yet again a waste of an over fished species. The pub is great and the beer is well managed the food a massive disappointment.

Visited here a few times on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Always busy. Seating is in the front bar as well as a larger area to the rear. Outside seating at the front catches late afternoon sunshine, although the road in front is fairly busy.Nice rustic pub, with stripped wooden floor, tables etc.Good selection of beers - Gravitas seemed very popular and was excellent. Couple of wines by the glass. My only complaint on the day I visited was that the wine wasn't very cold despite coming straight from the fridge. We ordered fish and chips, which was tasty and served on a wooden board. My only negative comment would be that it was a shame they didn't make their own home made chips, as the homemade battered fish was very good, as were the homemade battered onion rings - although perhaps the onion could be a bit thicker!Service can be a little slow, but very friendly.Happy to return again and again.

I gave it 5 stars for the service, food quality and general relaxed feel of teh pub. Do not expect a Michelin star restaurant, it is a pub after all. The only minor issue on our second trip was some of the food needed re-heating, but I put that down to the fact that it was Mothering Sunday, and the staff and no doubt the kitchen were very busy. To their credit without any complaints being made, the landlady treated us to deserts to apologise. Great value for the money, and far better than most around Aylesbury! The atmosphere was good although the two TVs showing football were a little loud. There were a few other customers, mainly in their thirties and older, but it was surprisingly empty for a Saturday lunch time. The choice of real ales is excellent and the food menu offers a wide selection. We went for the Angus steak burgers with cheese and bacon, which were huge and came with a decent salad, home made coleslaw and home made chips. I have been going to this place for many years and it is still the best, friendliest, places in Aylesbury for a decent pint. Very welll stocked with various beers from local and not so local brewerys, lovely food, great staff and not much in the way of noisy youths :-)

Haven't as yet tried the food but the new landladies have done an excellent job turning this tap pub around.Under competition now from the old milright arms for beer quality but not food from what I've seen. Great pub!

Excellent range of beers, good food, good atmosphere and simply Aylesbury's best pub. Not a chain and at least 10 beers on tap at any time not to mention the huge range of bottles beers, lagers and ciders. While the town centre Kings Head is nice it's very expensive and it's range of beers is very limited. I'd take the Hop Pole over it in every respect except it's Court Yard. The one down side of the Hop pole is the small beer garden which is on the main road.

The Hop Pole is suddenly getting good reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. It's a pub. Very much so with a huge range of real ales to keep the most committed CAMRA member happy. On a Friday night it's not really a child friendly venue - too many all male groups, but that's alright by us as we don't have children. The food we was excellent. Chips were perfect, a good sign of a chef who cares, as was the burger - very near the standard set by the much missed Barn burger menu. We'll certainly be back.

When to the Hop Pole last night the food was fantastic. I had the angus cheese and bacon burger the best burger I have had in years real nice chips, a great home made coleslaw. Others with me had rump steak and asked for it medium and unlike other restaurants it was cooked to perfection. The beer battered fish was nice and crispy. All washed down with a great porter beer. If you like good honest food with great ales head for here . its a real treat.

Owned by the Vale Brewery and with the Aylesbury Brewhouse Company out back, if you're a beer lover you simply must visit this wonderful pub! A little lacking in atmosphere perhaps, but more than makes up for it with the beer selection and quality pub grub. Good prices and friendly staf make this one of the better pubs in Aylesbury. Yes it's slightly out of town and yes it's next to a main road, but once inside, none of that will matter. A wonderful beery haven.

A selection of ten real ales on the bar, plus an amazing about of bottled beers and ciders is a wonder to be found these days. Regular beers from Vale Brewery, and others brewed out the back of the pub by ABC and an endless variety of guest beers meaning that you will not be disappointed at all with the variety. All are offered as samples before buying, this is how to run a pub properly - major chains really need to take note of this - it is the simple things that work, not gimmicks.Really is a pub that feels right, lovely atmosphere and newly decorated etc, well worth the two minute walk from the town centre.Having seen some of the food (especially the quite stunning Sunday Roasts) leaving the kitchen we went to eat on Gourmet Burger Night. A wonderful selection of freshly made and incredibly large burgers, all with chips. Clearly home made and cooked, the tastes were excellent, and it also meant we could try another couple of beers.Described as a hidden gem is a little off track, it is set back from the road, and only a short walk from town, and vastly superior to any of the pub offerings in the centre.

The Hop Pole always has a great choice of real ales and food available. With a large number of hand pumps (ten, if I remember correctly), and a descriptive beer menu on the wall, you're sure to be able to find a traditional-style beer to suit your tastebuds. And if you fancy something a little more adventurous, they have a good selection of world beers, including some very tasty Belgian Trappist beers. (I recently had an evening of sipping nothing but Belgian beers, and it was very enjoyable.) The food menu is equally extensive, with a good range of dishes to suit all appetites. Hayley is renowned for her burgers (especially on Thursday "gourmet burger" nights) but there are lots of other dishes to choose from, including traditional Sunday roasts. The bacon-and-cheese burger is very tasty and filling, but there are even larger ones if you're famished! I haven't had a roast yet, but I hope to try one sometime in the next few weeks. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere, nothing "plasticky" about this place. There's even evidence of the pubs' devotion to real ale with a large collection of pump clips, showing a massive number of brews which have been served over the years. Even though the Hop Pole is a little way off my normal route through Aylesbury, I always try to make a detour here when I can, and I'm never disappointed.

The Hop Pole Aylesbury is a hidden gem, Fantastic food, great service and lovely atmosphere, unfortunately without being told this pub was here I would have continued to drive past it without trying it out. However now I have experienced this delightful pub, I highly recommend The Hop Pole especially for its delicious food. They have a great variety on the menu and all at vary reasonable prices. I particularly recommend their Sunday roast, great for the whole family and if you have any specific requirements they are happy to cater for this for the needs of you and your family. Thank you to all involved for many lovely meals and enjoyable visits.
