The Hop Merchant in Nottingham

Nat and Lauryn were great... Busy serving the customers but both had a friendly outgoing nature. This pub is right in the town center of Nottingham so unfortunately no parking. It's a quirky little pub with a private seating / eating quiet room upstairs (shown in photos) ideal study / meeting room away from the maddening crowd and hustle of city centre life. Great little pub...😎

We rang at short notice to ask if I could reserve a table for 6 in the upstairs room. The staff were very accommodating and said yes. We arrived at the agreed time and found a table saved for us. We had the room to ourselves. Staff very nice and took our drink orders and brought them up to us. It was nice to be able to chat and catch up with family members, in peace and quiet, after watching them in the Wizard of Oz in the Theatre Royal. Would recommend this pub and the room. Staff welcoming and funny. Thanks Emma 😊

Great bar with excellent choice of beers and great staff and service.

I was charged £12.15 for a pint of brown ale and orange gin and tonic. The beer tasted terrible. They obviously don’t pull off the previous nights beer and test before the punters arrive (Saturday 3pm????) See photo and compare prices of close by pubs. Utter rip off for crap quality. Next time I’ll stick to quality and value for money and stay at Lillie Langtry’s.

Went upstairs where it is quieter and less loud music, better to chat and relax. Got to 9pm on a Saturday night and told we had to leave as they needed to save electricity. We challenged lady cleaning tables that we had spent money on drinks including a bottle of wine and we we don't didn't want noise downstairs. We were told to leave and I argued it was not good customer service. Eventually we were left alone and we left no mess or issues. I would argue if there is a time to leave open on a Saturday night. Promote quieter upstairs and maximise sales. We wont go there again. Shame nice pub

My happy place! I absolutely love this place, the staff, the atmosphere everything. Firstly it's really easy to find, it's on Upper parliament Street on the corner near the cinema. It's a quaint little pub with a real cosy at home feeling. I've been a few times for a drink and listened to a live band. The customers are always friendly and I've meet some lovely people. It's also a place where you can sit and have a quiet drink. The staff and owner are Fantastic! They are truly welcoming and go above and beyond for their customers always with a smile. Twice now I have booked the beautiful room upstairs for private parties. We decorated the room with balloons and plugged our phones in to play our own music. There's a code on the table where we can order room service so we didn't have to go downstairs to the bar for our drinks. The last party we had was a ladies night/birthday surprise and everyone had the best night ever. A few of the ladies suffer from social anxiety but was so relaxed as the room is just the right size for a small gathering. We laughed,drank and danced! It was perfect! Everyone said we're booking the room again. I can not wait to go back. Thank you so much Hop Merchant for giving us a Damn Good Time! 🥰

Very busy little place. It was overflowing with people when I arrived. There were TVs in place showing the rugby. Staff were friendly and the beer was good. Enjoyed.

Located on busy Upper Parliament Street, its a great place to stop on the way home before catching a bus. Seating available bothe inside and a few outside. Good selection of beers.

A great little pub, clean and tidy with a great selection of drinks and friendly staff. Lots of option for beers and plenty of Gins to choose from.

It was a lovely experience. I can't talk much about the food and service since I was there for a meet-up.

Only tried this place in Summer and it has become a favourite when in town. Great choice, light and relaxing space to enjoy 5 minutes peace between shops or before a show

Was having a wander around Nottingham and heard live music from the hop merchant. It didn't disappoint. Great music and a few ciders.

We love this pub and visit often when we are in the city centre. A few days ago we hired the function room for an evening of poetry reading. It's a wonderful room - comfortable with a cosy feel, and very nicely decorated. The staff were very good to us, from our first enquiry through to the evening itself.

No food oh crisps were nice. We had a fab time in lovely upstairs room on a poetry evening. Great fun. Perfect size for small group. Staff kind and just came up twice to check on us and clear glasses. Fab evening.

Just been for drink, but next time would try some food. They have my fav Beavertown beer so that's massive plus😄

Absolutely love this place, staff are lovely like 1 big family, im aloud to buy my own food ,myself and my dad are made welcome everytime we go, we even book our regular tables, love it ,love it bloody love it, once we are sat down we stay for hrs, lovley sun trap lovely views and i say it again lovely staff x

the staff have been nothing but lovely. We have been working outside with a charity in the boiling weather and they were so kind to always offer a cold glass of water and ice whenever me and my colleagues would come in, + using their facilities and let us cool down in their pub.

Great little corner pub (and better than the Turf Tavern as it had previously been). Lady serving was friendly and polite and remembered our drinks order, it was nice and atmospheric and there were a good number of ales on tap. The only reason I've knocked a star off is because they don't serve Bass! For a Bass aficionado like myself, it's a bit cruel decorating your whole pub with Bass branding but not serving the beer! Other than that, we will definitely call in again.

Came in for one and ended up staying all night! Great little place with a good vibe, was busy downstairs following the football but was guided upstairs where we could have a quieter drink and put the world to rights. Good selection of gins to drink and reasonably priced. Shout out to Ema & Wayne for looking after us all night, we’ll be back soon :)

I have been to this pub a few times before but tonight I hired the room upstairs for a private function and I was very pleased with the whole experience. The landlady was great and the staff were brilliant I would highly recommend. It had a good selection of beers and in a great central location.

A beautiful little pub with upstairs rooms when needed. Trance man that runs it is a legend and his taste in music vibes if you're into the uplifting stuff. Quality little joint with brilliant staff

Up for the weekend with friends so done a little bar crawl, came across this bar, just lovely not big but nice seating area outside catches the sun perfectly. Great choice of drinks, I like cider was so much choice not your standard strongbow or magners. Staff amazing chatting with customers we felt welcomed. When I'm ever back in Nottingham will definitely visit again and tell friends at home to pop in. Added bonus has sport showing all round great bar. 🙂

First time here but it wasn't bad , had a surprise upstairs room as well. Good atmosphere as well.

We had a 50th birthday celebration in the function room upstairs and it was fab. The room was clean and perfect for what we needed. The staff were fantastic and made us feel welcomed and did everything they could to make it a special evening. It’s in a great location also. Would highly recommend 😊

Surprisingly good place. Beer choice is very good and the place (incl toilets) is very well kept. I think a little gem in the centre of town.

We popped in here whilst waiting for our restaurant booking. It's a friendly old fashioned pub. 5 hand pulls and numerous largers to choose from. The staff were friendly even though they were very busy. The beer seemed well kept, a reasonable selection of wines, and the price's were very reasonable. I'd definitely come back, they don't appear to serve food.

My wife and I come into Nottingham once a week generally but always head straight for the Hop Merchant before going on somewher to eat. Why? Traditional pub that doesn't attract the typical Wetherspoons crowd, great beer, we go for Tribute which is always crystal clear, the staff are brilliant and even when busy know who is next. Great atmosphere and a real pleasure to watch the world go by in a great place with great beer.

A favourite Shipstones pub of mine from way back in the 70s when it was the Turf Tavern. Little has changed which suits me very well. No longer the same local ale but a nice well kept pint is still pulled at the bar.

Nice little pub. Nice staff. Football was on with no sound. Very steep stairs upto the loo. Constantly advertising Bass beer but not serving it on my last two visits. There are Bass signs on the outside of the building. This strongly suggests that it's on tap. Not complaining about the non - sound for the football but readers of this may wish to know advance. Some like commentary, some don't. I'm not expressing an opinion either way. It's a review without much bias. I mention the stairs not as a moaner but to inform those who struggle with mobility. I don't. I was in there for hours and did OK with the stairs. These reviews are for information only. Bass signs suggest Bass, don't they ?

We stumbled across this place whilst away in Nottingham. I was very happy to see my favourite cider for sale, the staff were so friendly and up for a laugh. Watched the Fury fight, great atmosphere and would happily visit again if we Nottingham!

Great atmosphere and good cask beers

One of my favourite pubs in Nottingham, its only small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in atmosphere . The landlady is bubbly and welcoming and whether you are just coming in for a pint or are watching the match as we frequently do it is perfect . Central location near to the Royal centre and cinema and many more bars and restaurants

I have visited this pub on lots of occasions in the past. I went there to meet friends this evening and we were served by Wayne, what excellent service we received, he brought soda and ice over when he saw we needed it, as we had bought a bottle of wine but wanted wine and soda. He also charged my phone up for me. I will definitely return because I was so happy with the service we received. Thank you Wayne.
