Friendly staff, efficient, clean, good music levels, staff take care to adhere to the rules. It's expensive though and despite plenty of lager and pale ale/craft beer options, there was no 'proper' bitter available.....and then the Guinness ran out! I wasn't far behind it.No cash, just card payments accepted

This pub has been an amazing local refuge for our community during the times of covid-19. Through difficult circumstances they’ve managed to keep up the fun atmosphere, good prices and high quality of service. The staff, particularly recently, have been absolute stars. Lucy and Chris, as well as others whose names we haven’t yet learned (sorry!), have been pillars of reliability, as well as true ambassadors of the business. The food here was franchised to another business recently, and Kurt has created a wonderful menu at top notch quality and reasonable prices. We always enjoy every meal we have here, from the Sunday roast to small snacks with drinks. When we come here it feels like a little island of normality in a city where things can be tense and stressful in normal circumstances. One thing we LOVE is the support they’ve offered to the community over half term with the free packed lunches for children who need them <3Thank you for everything!

Largo, turgente, sintonizado y bastante ruidoso.

On arrival the two staff didn't really notice us and the manager just sat on a bar stool waiting for hes chicken and chips to be served. We got a table in the garden (which could do with some tlc to be honest) and ordered two starters and four mains. We were surprised when not long after the starters were served along came the four mains! The food generally was ok but two of had steak, one was fine but the other full of gristle (or well marbled) as some would say!We ordered one desert and when it came the waiter cleared two plates and left the rest. When we paid and left the manager was still sat on he's stool and never asked how everything was or wished us goodby. Not a good impression on our first visit

I went to a one year old’s birthday party held in The Loft, which is a great space you can rent for functions. This pub has everything you’d want from a living wall, to outside and sheltered eating and sitting spaces. Friendly staff, helpful manager, and even an accessible loo on the ground floor. It can cater for everyone (though a full staircase bannister to the spacious and clean loos upstairs for the less able, parents with babes in arms, and those who’ve had one too many would be a safer idea). But the party food, oh the food, OMG! I wanted a doggy box. Yorkshire’s with perfectly cooked slices of beef, finger portions of fish, and chips of two kinds, pork belly squares of perfect scrum, chicken nuggets - with real chicken and more, more. I loved it, my granddaughter loved it. Nom nom nom :-). I wish I lived nearer!

It turned out to be chicken and leek...good job I like leeks! The pie crust was really heavy, the mash was tiny and bland, the greens were green, and cold and hard! The gravy was just a bit weird. On Friday the 5th of April I brought a party of people to your pub after our fathers funeral. I wanted to find a quality pub locally that I could bring family and friends to in order to blow off steam after laying our father to rest. After research I thought I had made the right decision by selecting the honoroak pub. We were very happy at first in the choice we made, staff were friendly and the choice of drinks were perfect. However my whole party was disgusted by the attitude from one of your chefs! We had our 70 year old mother with us who had just put her husband of 50 years to rest and she needed to eat. She was tired, upset and wanted nothing more than a simple cheese sandwich to eat. Now I’m well aware this was not on your menu I do understand that. However I made a simple request for her, I asked if it would be possible to have this done for her and I would pay whatever the cost. Your barmaid at the time was lovely she spoke to me with respect and was very helpful. She said she would ask and said she saw no reason why this could not be possible given the circumstances. She went off to ask your chef and returned promptly looking rather upset. She explained that your chef refused point blank even knowing this was for an unwell woman who was very upset at the time. Now I’m a fully trained chef I earned my qualifications at the Savoy London and I know this was a foul attitude to have. I have never in all my years of working in the catering industry once turned a customer away. In my professional field your customers are your income and you have a duty of care to serve them. If your chef had of explained that it simply was not possible I might have accepted that. But the lass that served me was truly upset his attitude hurt her and that was wrong. We did not feel I asked a great deal, we can’t believe your chefs attitude to this request it truly was disgusting. My whole family spent a great deal of money on your premises and were happy to. However we left feeling let down and hurt due to the fact our mother wasn’t worth a simple cheese sandwich!

Our meal came out nice and hot but all the veg was over cooked, the potatoes were bland, my partner had beef which had more fat than meat & the veg option was all pastry & cheese. The live Jazz started just after 2, at the same time the house system was playing different music and the kitchens radio was blaring. At no point did I ask for a refund and I was starving so this was very odd!! They then bought out the meal again which was still leathery and not good. So the calamari rings were cut way too thin, almost like strings and they gave less than only 10 rings, yes I counted! It was an extremely small portion put on top of a salad, but I didn’t order a salad, so why put calamari on top of a bunch of greens that had no salad dressing on it? …hmm …maybe to make the dish look bigger than it was? Maybe because they were too cheap to give actual calamari in their calamari dish? Maybe it was to save money since the bar usually goes out of business every 3 months and then sold to new ownership whom repeat the same poor ethics? Next the beef brisket tacos were the smallest tacos that I have ever seen, It was like ridiculously too small, jokingly microscopic, absolutely pathetic and quite insulting to the customer. I wish that I had put a 50 pence coin next to these tacos and took a pic for you viewers just to show the silly small scale of these tacos …and there was only 3 of these little things. Still hungry ofcourse I ordered a hamburger …my 3rd regretted dish. The bun was hard and stale, the meat was ground chuck and ground up in a course fashion so you get that non-crushed bone fragment chunk on your teeth when biting down while chewing. It was certainly not a fine ground beef like a Great American Hamburger. The cheese wasn’t even melted on top of the patty so the cook didn’t put the cheese on the beef patty while it was still on the grill. And the cheese was a very cheap cheddar Asda version slice that had zero taste to it, besides tasting like plastic. The burger dish said that it came with a salad on the menu but it did not, and when I asked the waitress where was my salad as described on the menu she said that the menu meant the greens on top of the burger …but which should NOT be classified as a salad. This pub is absolutely terrible, and I will never recommend anyone to order anything from it’s menu besides a pint of beer which you would hope that they can’t screw that one up too. - The Phantom Gourmet Ego

The allergen information you are provided with is by line of menu rather than splitting the components out so you are better off taking the information and going to speak to the chef, but I would imagine if they were busy this might be a bit harder than it was on a quiet Bank Holiday Monday. The food was really tasty, although I feel unless they change their menu often I won't be visiting too often as it will get a bit boring if you have a wheat allergy like me.He had tempura prawns and I had the bbq wings to start, followed by the burger for him and the jerk chicken served with coleslaw (as the wheat free among us can't have any of the fried food). Every time I've went after the reopen the staff have always been super friendly and help me choose from the vast range of craft beers. Big fan of the live music and the atmosphere keeps me coming back, and the living wall is pretty cool too! The Sunday roasts are a delight aswell, definitely recommend!

Visited on a warm sunny Saturday in March and enjoyed sitting outside sampling the different ales on offer. Had a tapas style selection in our group, all food choices were excellent. We were very impressed with the living wall (Photo attached) and the outside area which had recently had astro turf laid along with new furniture. It was busy all afternoon. We found the staff very welcoming and service was very good at all times.

Went to the Honor Oak for the third time since its recent relaunch this evening. It started off well, with live music from a man playing guitar and singing. But when he finished the bar staff put the sound system on, and it suddenly became impossible to chat with my friends. One of them asked for the volume to be turned down, but it was not. I'm a professional musician and sound engineer: I know that getting the levels right to generate a lively atmosphere but not so loud it inhibits communication is a difficult feat. The Honor Oak still has a way to go to get it right.

Went there today to see what was happening after all the changes and new management. Disappoint is a understatement, long wait at the bar, appreciate it was a hot sunny Sunday, but 2 staff behind the bar, Really , this place could go down hill pretty quickly if they don't sort this out, previous management had service spot on

I was excited about yet another relaunch of the Honor Oak as it's one of my locals. We have been in there 3 times now, second with a group of friends and each time the beer is flat! We've tried a range but something seems quite wrong- we've had to return about 8 pints in total over our visits. The 3 times we have been have been quite far apart so it seems whatever is happening- it's not being fixed. Some other locals have said the same! Such a shame!

We live locally and were very excited about having a pub like the Honour Oak just round the corner. We saw that the Honour Oak was advertised on TasteCard’s website, so my boyfriend and I headed there for his birthday meal during the week. When we arrived and explained we had a Taste Card, the staff said that they didn’t accept TasteCards but didn’t explain why. When we asked for an explanation, the staff were very rude and abrupt and said it Taste Card’s fault, not theirs. I can fully accept and appreciate that it was not the pub’s fault, however the two members of staff did not offer any kind of apology and swiftly turned around and continued to chat to each other, leaving my boyfriend and I standing there shocked! We won’t be returning, which is a real shame given it is our local.

I avoided this place in the past because I didn't think the food was up to much. Plus there always seemed to be kids everywhere in the past. Or maybe I was unlucky. However I went in this last week and was pleasantly surprised. The food is back on form - and the whole place has been transformed. I had ribs, which I always think are a good indicator of a kitchen's ability. They can often be rubbery and generally disappointing but here they were some of the best I've had - easily on a par with some of the best ribs I've had in the USA. Well worth a visit.

Following a disastrous trip during the February half term with my family and friends for a Sunday lunch that was booked two weeks in advanced and to be told at 3pm....there was hardly anything left...with nothing as compensation or even a SORRY!!.... thought id give the new owners a second chance.. BIG MISTAKE... staff rude and unwelcoming the owner MAC told my four year old in depth about his pub license and how he could loose it if my son kept walking around the bar (there nowhere for children to play and they wasn't allowed in the back garden) Rubbish selection of child friendly drinks not even orange cordial they're non alcoholic drinks have everything with tonic in it which is disgusting for children over priced menu with only two vegetarian main dishes.. I'm A local and have used this pub for over ten years myself my family and friends will not be coming back

We popped into the Oak yesterday after a busy afternoon and couldn't have been happier with the new vibe of the recently refurb'd pub. Firstly, it looks great! The wall with all the plants and flowers is incredible, I Haven't seen anything like that in a pub before. There is a really varied selection of beer and the staff were more than willing to talk through all the different brews with my very inquisitive (*annoying) friend. We ended up working our way through quite a few more drinks and really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere (the music was spot on!). We ordered a few dishes off the menu and the food was great. We can't wait to come in a check our your Sunday Roast. You will definitely see us again soon.

I visited with family a couple of days ago. Our server was friendly and courteous, and especially lovely with my two year old. We had a range of choices from the menu. The soup and baked camembert starters were very tasty. For mains, the fish and chips were excellent, soft fish and crunchy batter, perfect. The burgers were also good, my steak was cooked as ordered, and my friend enjoyed her veggie casserole. Decent selection of ales at the bar too.

This place is part of the Tastecard club which offers member discounts. I booked by phone, days in advance for sunday lunch and double checked that they accept the card and offers, they confirmed that was OK. My wife & I drove up from the south coast to London for lunch with our son - and got a phone call one hour before our booked time to tell me that they do not accept Tastecard on a Sunday. When I arrived at the pub and spoke to the manager, he said there was a mistake by the person taking our reservation, and would not budge. We ate elsewhere. Rude unprofessional staff don't deserve patronage - give it a miss!

If you are in the area and you need a nice pubbish-like place to eat this one is a good choice. You can choose to go the pub or the restaurant area, both are nice. In different occasions I've tried the lamb and the pork with black pudding, the food was good and well presented, not the best I've had in my life but it was served by friendly and helpful staff, which for me is the most rare and invaluable specimen to find in London.

The Honor Oak is a bit of an odd place in that it can't seem to make up its mind what it actually is - part pub, part restaurant and a bit of both, it lacks identity and it shows. I have been several times as it is very local and eaten there a couple of times. As a pub it rates pretty low. Every time I have been there is a bar full of dirty glasses and even though it is never that busy you have to wait for the distracted staff to get round to serving you. They claim to have "craft beer" but there isn't much variety on tap and they seem to run out of things regularly - twice they have had no hibernation IPA and they even ran out of diet coke syrup once. It is also sadly lacking in atmosphere but given that it is essentially a large square box there isnt much to be done about that. What really put me off were the children running wild around the pub at 7pm on a Friday - rolling on the floor and playing with their cars using my foot as some sort of bridge! As a restaurant it is a little better and I have had a decent if expensive roast there. The other times I have eaten there the food was ok, not cheap and nothing exceptional - certainly nothing to write home about. They seem to be trying for high end eating and failing whereas they would be better serving good tasty pub grub.I am willing to give them another go though but only as it is at the end of the road!

If you've ever had to organise a funeral and wake, you'll know you want it to be faultless. I chose The Honor Oak to host my father's wake on the 18th August. We had a canopé based buffet, and i have to say the staff were excellent in the build up, and on the day they couldn't do enough for us, they even helped me put up photos of my dad on the walls. The food prepared by their on site kitchen was superb. They even had a local ale whch was really good too. Everyone remarked how good it was, and what an excellent choice of venue it was. Big thanks to everyone there, big thumbs up from my family and I. Well done The Honor Oak.

The honor oak used to be famed amongst our friends as the best Sunday lunch in Forest Hill area. This is no longer the case. The smell of the bins mixed with the dirty outside tables,(one was finally cleaned for us) did not bode well for a nice dining experience. It seemed like the waitress was under pressure, but the restaurant was not busy, yet the food still took ages to arrive. The poor guy who had a started ended up eating on his own by the time his meal came. The plates were hot but the food wasn't that warm and with only one tiny lot of cabbage on the plate, which apart from one carrot and one parsnip, accounted for the only vegetables. I don't know, I used to like this pub, but I couldn't believe the barman put only one shot of vodka in the mix for two bloody Mary's,(of which they didn't have tobacco or Worcestershire sauce-sort of necessary for a Bloody Mary?!). So after a very weak vodka and tomato juice , a very average meal with even more average bar staff and table service is to say on a whole- I will not be going there until they get their act together, especially at those prices. Very sad for what used to be the winning pub in the area.
