Stayed in the village for a couple of nights this is the local pub. Local warm feeling inside in the bar area with nice selection of beers and ale. The pub has a Chinese inside which also has really good food at really reasonable price and the pub has an area where you can sit in and eat. All the locals were friendly.

The pub did not advertise or inform me that live music would be present. My room was directly above the room with the live band, resulting in my room vibrating significantly. The booking wasn't particularly cheap and I was travelling with dogs. I don't feel that stating you're pet friendly whilst not making live music being present clear upon booking is correct. I spoke to the landlord and landlady at the time who seemingly brushed me off and lied about being able to offer refunds, directing me to speak to Booking.com customer services, Unfortunately, when the music finally finished and I was in my room. I audibly heard through the loudspeakers threats towards myself by the individuals in the pub below - including threats about starting a fight with me and coming to find me in the rooms above. I then continued to hear the landlord and landlady talking/arguing into the early hours of the morning As a young female solo traveller, 1I don't feel anyone should ever feel that their safety is threatened, and therefore, I DO NOT recommend staying at this B&B. The landlord and landlady will have also heard the threats made to me and were aware that I felt vulnerable and frightened, but did not get out of bed to see me at check out. I have spoken to Booking.com customer services who have informed me that the landlord and landlady have continued to ignore their attempts to contact them to resolve the issues I faced.

Disappointed considering the reviews, must not have been the same staff, a different room and a much improved breakfast. Firstly greeted with no knowledge of the booking, poor attitude both from the lady who greeted and the man behind the bar. Room smelly, bed lumpy, blinds fell off twice, could hear people talking either from the room above or adjacent to, TV remote stuck on full volume. The so called breakfast was not worth going to get, cheap bread, coffee not worth the bothering with. In summary there are better places not far away from this one, stayed in it the previous night. The in house Chinese restaurant was good, my guess is it wasn't run by the same people. Much room for improvement all round particularly as the competition is very good at the same price.

A lovely country inn. Karl and Julie could not do enough for you. Food via an in house Chinese takeaway was excellent. Order your food and it is bought too wherever you are in the pub. A friendly, cosy hotel in a beautiful village. I can't fault it. I will definitely go back again.

Stayed one night. Nice welcome, good beer. Chinese food no more than OK (I know this is provided by an outside caterer) Room clean BUT you can't sleep, house guests talking and laughing until well after midnight - no sound insulation. Then it sounds like animals in the roof space and creaking floor boards. Continental breakfast is poor. Sadly never again.

Been to this place many times over two decades. Has a good bar and some nice people too. Went in recently and they have a wide selection of beers, ciders, and even Cotswolds whisky / Gin. Three things I feel they should bring back from years gone by: 1. Karaoke (Singstar or otherwise). 2. The lit fireplace - was always lovely and warm. 😊 3. The Jukebox. 4. The Kiwi barstaff - I don't know why the exchanges stopped, but the Kiwi barstaff really added something. 5. The pool table in the western room (the one surrounded by car park). Oh, and one new thing: build a bike shelter. Whilst most country folk are drivers, I, for one, cycled in and had to re-engineer it to fit a drainpipe. 😅 Either way: still has magic and a good craic.

We booked in for one night and decided we would definitely come back. This is a lovely village, beautiful Cotswold stone cottages, lots of footpaths around. The pub is a fantastic building, full of nooks and crannies. On Tuesdays the kitchen is shut but there's a mobile food van serving pizza and crepes. Our room was warm and comfortable. A good choice of beers and wines and lots of board games available. The landlord and his family have recently taken over the pub and doing a great job

Just dreadful we had booked two single rooms at £65 each for the night when we arrived and checked in we were told that one room was £65 and the other £80 after being showed the the confirmation booking invoice they adjusted the price! One room was so cold and had a green exit light illuminated in it I’m not sure why! The other room had loud music playing above it for the entire night! Breakfast was a complete shambles and the coffee cups provided were filthy! Would I stay again…absolutely not!

I can only comment on the takeaway aspect as I've never sat in the pub for a drink. It does look like a very cosy place to have a drink, though. The takeaway is Chinese, and it's a great place to eat. We've collected and also had food delivered. Delivery can be a bit expensive so we now collect it which isn't too bad. If you collect you can pay by card.

The bar and the guest room that I were both very cold. Not very welcoming. I sat and chatted with a few locals who all commented how cold it was. The owners of the pub wouldn’t allow the fire to be lit. Wow!!! Ian, the barman is first class. He tried his utmost to apologise for the cold temperatures. In the end the locals left. This was five thirty in the afternoon. As soon as I arrived I was told no food was available due to the attached Chinese takeaway closes on a Tuesday. That needs to explained clearly on Booking .Com. I had a great dinner of two bags of cheese and onion crisps. Personally, apart from Ian being a good host this place has a big ‘For Sale’ coming up very soon. Never again.

We were staying in the village at an Air BnB property and decided to visit the pub on Friday evening. If you like the smell of Chinese food then this is the pace for you - if not, then avoid it like the plague! If you like to enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere then do not bother visiting - the place was like a fridge with the majority of customers wearing the coats they came in with. The radiators were cold (apparently at the insistence of the tenant) and though the main drinking area had a nice wood burning stove in the character fireplace it did nothing to take the chill off other areas, not least the so called "snug" which was hardly an appropriate name for the coldest part of the pub. Will we visit again? Well as it's the only pub in the village there really is no other option - would I recommend it to others? No, I would not.

We were attending a family wedding 5 miles away on 29/01/22 I booked & paid online the day before, I made a mistake and entered the wrong date. When I rang to amend the date I spoke to Chloe who was most helpful and said no problem I will change it. After attending the wedding we arrived back around midnight, unfortunately the bar had not long closed as I was hoping to grab a quick nightcap. If you are within 50 miles of this place, then you should go visit. Tom and Laura are so accommodating and friendly and will do anything to make your visit worthwhile. They are building up a great business and working hard to make the pub the central focal point of the village. They are community minded but welcome those from outside the village too. Tom welcomed us to this lovely pub with a huge smile and carried our bags to our room. The room was very clean and well-kept with a comfy bed and great views. We were only staying for one night but I wish we could have stayed longer! We had a few pints before going to a wedding nearby and the St. Austell Proper Job was perfect. Temperature was spot-on, it was clear and the taste was superb. Sparklers being used was a huge bonus for us! Tom and his staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and - when our taxi didn't arrive - let us use his phone to call another one. He gave us loads of information about the local area and made us feel at home. Watching him behind the bar was great - he was attentive to each customer, speedy when he needed to be and chatted to everyone who walked in - regular or not. This pub is clean, perfectly run and super welcoming - I can't recommend a stay here enough! As always when away from home, a good view, comfy bed and lovely breakfast isn't enough: it's the people that make a pub what it is, and Tom certainly takes this pub to another level with his passion for the job and friendliness to the people who come in - thank you!

Sadly another of many recent changes in Management has resulted in another very poor kitchen and service. The wait was very slow not just for attention of service but then the cooked food and even ice cream too.The cooked food was at best heated up pre-bought food (burgers/ frozen chips, etc) with no evidence of any hand made food visible deposits claims of hand battered fish on the menu.As the only pub and server of food in a thriving village community let’s hope the brewery sell it and someone takes it on with experience to make it a success.Until then will be staying away.

We live in the village and sadly this pub has not had the right management for about 3 years now ... it’s gone through some changes but not all of them positive. Our last visit was horrendous, no fire (in January) blaming a delayed visit to repair it. No tea lights, they couldn’t afford to light them so they were for show. A total lack of ambiance and it was virtually empty (again). We left our coats on as it was freezing. The staff were apologetic but we shall not be visiting again as nearby pubs like The Kings Head in Napton, The Countryman in Staverton and The Red Lion in Hellidon are far far superior in hospitality, food and surroundings ... a total shame for our gorgeous village pub.

We went here for lunch and were literally the only people there. It’s a lovely country pub with good decor and so much potential...but they really need to sort out the food! No one enjoyed their meal. It was quite terrible - some food was served cold, salad came straight from one of those £1 bags at Tesco and there was no dressing. The roasts were grey and tasteless (“The worst roast I’ve ever had”) and there is no veggie roast option. The menu and photos on the website are not at all what was on offer - we wouldn’t have booked if we’d seen the real menu. It was SUCH a disappointment and I wish we’d gone with our instinct to leave. Staff were nice and helpful, though...doing the best they could with poor tools.

We had high expectations that were sadly quashed. The bar was very busy although in the dining area there were few people. We were sat about 7:45pm on a Friday evening to be told that 4 out of the 10 or so dishes were no longer available. When ordering the Hake, we were then told that it would be smoked haddock (Hake is a delicate flavour, so that was just wrong). Three of us ordered burgers, to then be told that there were no burger buns. We were given two slices of cheap brown bread instead. The servers were attentive, but really didn't care that they were telling paying customers that what they were serving was third rate. Really awful.

Could they not mash some more potatoes!? I finally ordered burger and chips out of sheer desperation and wished i hadnt; it was dry, bland and served on a child size plate. The onion rings were pathetic. The rest of my party were likewise unimpressed. Wasted evening.

After a really beautiful weekend with family we were looking forward to a lovely Sunday roast. There are 14 of us so the table was booked well in advance.

Whilst visiting the area last week, we were pointed in the direction of the Hollybush Inn. We were not disappointed. The building is huge and very well presented and the landlady and landlord were friendly and helpful. The food arrived promptly and was delicious and good value. We understand that the current owners have not been in place long and wish them the best of luck with their new venture.

Our first time at the Hollybush and we had such a warm welcome, both the roaring fire which was welcome on a miserable, rainy day, and by the friendly landlady. We will definitely go back

We booked a table for 6 for Sunday lunch at 5pm having seen good reviews following the re-opening but were very disappointed. On arrival we were shown to our table and the Sunday lunch menu board was brought to the table, where we were told that there were NO starters available and no roast chicken, only roast lamb and roast Rib of beef, however when we said that one member of our group didn't eat either lamb or beef a roast chicken was found for her. The meals were brought out and the Roast Rib of beef that 3 of us ordered was really tough, cut very thickly and definitely not Rib but Topside.(my husband is a butcher so clearly noticed this!) The yorkshire puddings were hard and dry, obviously having been kept warm and not freshly cooked and the vegetables were poor. There were also NO desserts available from the Sunday lunch menu but we were offered desserts from the main menu which we declined. We pointed out that the beef we had been served was not, as we had been told, Rib of Beef but Topside and were only charged for Topside, there was a £5 difference in the price between the two! The roast lamb was ok though vegetable still poor! Sadly all in all a very poor and disappointing Sunday lunch.

This pub has gone up and down over the years, it used to be a place for quite high quality dining but now offers far more straight forward 'pub' food, sausages, pies, fish and chips and the like. We started with a sharing platter of meats, pickles and bread, ok if a bit meagre on the bread front. Next sausages and mash, tasty and well cooked. One of our party had a pie, this came with chips and gravy, again tasty and well cooked but nothing resembling a vegetable e.g. a half a tomato or a sprig of parsley. The young staff were prompt, friendly and attentive, the older staff perhaps just a bit to 'matey ' for my taste but others find this welcoming and appealing. Our bill was very wrong with drinks we did not order and an item "open bar" for £2 which not even the waitress understood. However it was very quickly put right and overall was very reasonable. The floor needs carpet to deaden the echo of voices bounding off the stone floor and walls. It was quite busy in the restaurant area but quieter in the bar.

The food is wonderful at the Hollybush and the team there are very welcoming. The ribeye steak there is particularly good and the specials puddings are great.

Our choir was giving two long-standing members a farewell lunch. The food was excellent as was the service. The co-operation of the staff was good and all the arrangements worked just as planned. Would certainly recommend this as a nice place for a good meal.

Came here for a late lunch as staying at a local hotel nearby. This place seems the only pub to serve food all day round here. We experienced a lovely Saturday afternoon here. Friendly staff, clean restaurant and fresh home cooked food. I recommend the gammon and also the lasagne. Best lasagne I'd ever had. Really creamy white sauce in there. Yummers. Apple tart for pudding was nice made with puff pastry. It reminded me of a pud my Nan used to make. I wish our local pub was like this one.

My husband and I are currently exploring the countryside walks around the area and picked a 5 miler that began and ended at the Holly Bush. What a great treat, when we arrived at 2:15 to discover not only that lunch was still available, but also that the two great lunchtime meals only cost £12. A generous fish and chips plus a goats cheese tart with salad, how happy were we?

This friendly pub has apparently been in the doldrums lately, but at the time of our visit it was buzzing with locals and a big visiting party of walkers. It’s a cosy place with a restaurant and a ‘snug’ as well as the main bar and the food was surprisingly good. The young staff fell over themselves to be helpful and deserve to succeed.

We visited the Holly Bush on Sat 22nd April as a party of eight. We knew the pub was under new management, so decided to give the place a try. The staff, food and service were excellent. The landlady entertained us royally, entering into the alcohol fuelled revelry of our table with great spirit, some sherry and great wit! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, we ate and drank plenty and still had enough change for our bus fares home! Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Myself and a friend went for lunch and we were able to sit in the restaurant yet have the bar menu. The waiting staff, Joel and Katie, were delightful! So friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We loved the ambiance and food was good. There are lots of festive events coming up so we hope to return and get into festive spirit!

It’s so hard to choose which of the amazing selection of cakes to have. Always busy, but always they find us a space. Definitely recommend a visit. Called in on Saturday, with friends, busy, but staff were working really hard to keep the wait time down to an absolute minimum. The cake counter goes on for ever, you will struggle to choose. Great coffee too. We were there near the end of the day, still lots of choice. When we were leaving, staff were selling left overs from the front of the cafe at a reduced take away price, which was going down really well to the busy Christmas market visitors. Atmosphere in Stratford on Saturday was great, busy, festive and a great day out. Parking was a tad difficult, but once parked, we had a great day.
