We booked in for one night and decided we would definitely come back. This is a lovely village, beautiful Cotswold stone cottages, lots of footpaths around. The pub is a fantastic building, full of nooks and crannies. On Tuesdays the kitchen is shut but there's a mobile food van serving pizza and crepes. Our room was warm and comfortable. A good choice of beers and wines and lots of board games available. The landlord and his family have recently taken over the pub and doing a great job

Just dreadful we had booked two single rooms at £65 each for the night when we arrived and checked in we were told that one room was £65 and the other £80 after being showed the the confirmation booking invoice they adjusted the price! One room was so cold and had a green exit light illuminated in it I’m not sure why! The other room had loud music playing above it for the entire night! Breakfast was a complete shambles and the coffee cups provided were filthy! Would I stay again…absolutely not!

I can only comment on the takeaway aspect as I've never sat in the pub for a drink. It does look like a very cosy place to have a drink, though. The takeaway is Chinese, and it's a great place to eat. We've collected and also had food delivered. Delivery can be a bit expensive so we now collect it which isn't too bad. If you collect you can pay by card.

The bar and the guest room that I were both very cold. Not very welcoming. I sat and chatted with a few locals who all commented how cold it was. The owners of the pub wouldn’t allow the fire to be lit. Wow!!! Ian, the barman is first class. He tried his utmost to apologise for the cold temperatures. In the end the locals left. This was five thirty in the afternoon. As soon as I arrived I was told no food was available due to the attached Chinese takeaway closes on a Tuesday. That needs to explained clearly on Booking .Com. I had a great dinner of two bags of cheese and onion crisps. Personally, apart from Ian being a good host this place has a big ‘For Sale’ coming up very soon. Never again.

We were staying in the village at an Air BnB property and decided to visit the pub on Friday evening. If you like the smell of Chinese food then this is the pace for you - if not, then avoid it like the plague! If you like to enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere then do not bother visiting - the place was like a fridge with the majority of customers wearing the coats they came in with. The radiators were cold (apparently at the insistence of the tenant) and though the main drinking area had a nice wood burning stove in the character fireplace it did nothing to take the chill off other areas, not least the so called "snug" which was hardly an appropriate name for the coldest part of the pub. Will we visit again? Well as it's the only pub in the village there really is no other option - would I recommend it to others? No, I would not.

We were attending a family wedding 5 miles away on 29/01/22 I booked & paid online the day before, I made a mistake and entered the wrong date. When I rang to amend the date I spoke to Chloe who was most helpful and said no problem I will change it. After attending the wedding we arrived back around midnight, unfortunately the bar had not long closed as I was hoping to grab a quick nightcap. Tom welcomed us and showed us to our room, everything was good. On my next visit I look forward to having a few drinks in the bar as the atmosphere on arrival looked great, we will be back.

If you are within 50 miles of this place, then you should go visit. Tom and Laura are so accommodating and friendly and will do anything to make your visit worthwhile. They are building up a great business and working hard to make the pub the central focal point of the village. They are community minded but welcome those from outside the village too. It makes me want to move there! They deserve to do well and we wish them all the luck in the world. They even donated to our charity walk as we passed through Priors Marston on the Millennium Way. Tom welcomed us to this lovely pub with a huge smile and carried our bags to our room. The room was very clean and well-kept with a comfy bed and great views. We were only staying for one night but I wish we could have stayed longer! We had a few pints before going to a wedding nearby and the St. Austell Proper Job was perfect. Temperature was spot-on, it was clear and the taste was superb. Sparklers being used was a huge bonus for us! Tom and his staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and - when our taxi didn't arrive - let us use his phone to call another one. He gave us loads of information about the local area and made us feel at home. Watching him behind the bar was great - he was attentive to each customer, speedy when he needed to be and chatted to everyone who walked in - regular or not. This pub is clean, perfectly run and super welcoming - I can't recommend a stay here enough! As always when away from home, a good view, comfy bed and lovely breakfast isn't enough: it's the people that make a pub what it is, and Tom certainly takes this pub to another level with his passion for the job and friendliness to the people who come in - thank you!

Popped in over the weekend as I was passing through, it was My first visit back for the best part of two years. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was fairly busy and had a nice buzz to it. I’ll be honest my previous trip didn’t exactly fill me with admiration for the place. Previous management seemed to have run it down a bit and service was poor. However it seems there’s a new team in charge and I found the service and quality of drinks to be good. Bar staff attentive, productive and chatty. We live in the village and sadly this pub has not had the right management for about 3 years now ... it’s gone through some changes but not all of them positive. Our last visit was horrendous, no fire (in January) blaming a delayed visit to repair it. No tea lights, they couldn’t afford to light them so they were for show. A total lack of ambiance and it was virtually empty (again). We left our coats on as it was freezing. The staff were apologetic but we shall not be visiting again as nearby pubs like The Kings Head in Napton, The Countryman in Staverton and The Red Lion in Hellidon are far far superior in hospitality, food and surroundings ... a total shame for our gorgeous village pub.

No one enjoyed their meal. It was quite terrible - some food was served cold, salad came straight from one of those £1 bags at Tesco and there was no dressing. The roasts were grey and tasteless (“The worst roast I’ve ever had”) and there is no veggie roast option. The menu and photos on the website are not at all what was on offer - we wouldn’t have booked if we’d seen the real menu. It was SUCH a disappointment and I wish we’d gone with our instinct to leave. Staff were nice and helpful, though...doing the best they could with poor tools.

We were sat about 7:45pm on a Friday evening to be told that 4 out of the 10 or so dishes were no longer available. When ordering the Hake, we were then told that it would be smoked haddock (Hake is a delicate flavour, so that was just wrong). Three of us ordered burgers, to then be told that there were no burger buns. We were given two slices of cheap brown bread instead. The servers were attentive, but really didn't care that they were telling paying customers that what they were serving was third rate. Really awful.

We booked a table for 6 for Sunday lunch at 5pm having seen good reviews following the re-opening but were very disappointed. On arrival we were shown to our table and the Sunday lunch menu board was brought to the table, where we were told that there were NO starters available and no roast chicken, only roast lamb and roast Rib of beef, however when we said that one member of our group didn't eat either lamb or beef a roast chicken was found for her. The meals were brought out and the Roast Rib of beef that 3 of us ordered was really tough, cut very thickly and definitely not Rib but Topside.(my husband is a butcher so clearly noticed this!) The yorkshire puddings were hard and dry, obviously having been kept warm and not freshly cooked and the vegetables were poor. There were also NO desserts available from the Sunday lunch menu but we were offered desserts from the main menu which we declined. We pointed out that the beef we had been served was not, as we had been told, Rib of Beef but Topside and were only charged for Topside, there was a £5 difference in the price between the two! The roast lamb was ok though vegetable still poor! Sadly all in all a very poor and disappointing Sunday lunch.

This pub has gone up and down over the years, it used to be a place for quite high quality dining but now offers far more straight forward 'pub' food, sausages, pies, fish and chips and the like. We started with a sharing platter of meats, pickles and bread, ok if a bit meagre on the bread front. Next sausages and mash, tasty and well cooked. One of our party had a pie, this came with chips and gravy, again tasty and well cooked but nothing resembling a vegetable e.g. a half a tomato or a sprig of parsley. The young staff were prompt, friendly and attentive, the older staff perhaps just a bit to 'matey ' for my taste but others find this welcoming and appealing. Our bill was very wrong with drinks we did not order and an item "open bar" for £2 which not even the waitress understood. However it was very quickly put right and overall was very reasonable. The floor needs carpet to deaden the echo of voices bounding off the stone floor and walls. It was quite busy in the restaurant area but quieter in the bar.

The food is wonderful at the Hollybush and the team there are very welcoming. The ribeye steak there is particularly good and the specials puddings are great.

Our choir was giving two long-standing members a farewell lunch. The food was excellent as was the service. The co-operation of the staff was good and all the arrangements worked just as planned. Would certainly recommend this as a nice place for a good meal.

Came here for a late lunch as staying at a local hotel nearby. This place seems the only pub to serve food all day round here. We experienced a lovely Saturday afternoon here. Friendly staff, clean restaurant and fresh home cooked food. I recommend the gammon and also the lasagne. Best lasagne I'd ever had. Really creamy white sauce in there. Yummers. Apple tart for pudding was nice made with puff pastry. It reminded me of a pud my Nan used to make. I wish our local pub was like this one.

My husband and I are currently exploring the countryside walks around the area and picked a 5 miler that began and ended at the Holly Bush. What a great treat, when we arrived at 2:15 to discover not only that lunch was still available, but also that the two great lunchtime meals only cost £12. A generous fish and chips plus a goats cheese tart with salad, how happy were we?

This friendly pub has apparently been in the doldrums lately, but at the time of our visit it was buzzing with locals and a big visiting party of walkers. It’s a cosy place with a restaurant and a ‘snug’ as well as the main bar and the food was surprisingly good. The young staff fell over themselves to be helpful and deserve to succeed.

We visited the Holly Bush on Sat 22nd April as a party of eight. We knew the pub was under new management, so decided to give the place a try. The staff, food and service were excellent. The landlady entertained us royally, entering into the alcohol fuelled revelry of our table with great spirit, some sherry and great wit! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, we ate and drank plenty and still had enough change for our bus fares home! Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely old building now being used as a pub and restaurant at the rear. Our first visit as we are on holiday in Napton after a day shopping in Milton Keynes with a bit of a hunger on we decided to try dinner. The large fire was burning as we entered and the place pretty quite but it was still early only 6.30 pm.

We noticed that the holly bush had changed hands last week and decided to call in for lunch on Sunday, and wow aren't we glad we did, the roast beef was some of the best I have had, and the roasters and veg were perfect. sunday lunch is one of the hardest things to get right and if my mother reads this she will hate me but it was far superior to hers. I can't wait to try their main menu, well worth a try and lets all support the new management!

Despite it being one of the coldest days of the year, the wood burning stove in the restaurant was not lit resulting in us and other diners having to eat with our coats on. The ambiance was non existent, the waiter did not appear to have been trained at all, we had booked ahead but no table was actually reserved for us. We asked for a wine list and he told us they had a merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, etc but when I asked him where the wines were from he didn't know. I asked him to find out and whilst he was gone I noticed a wine list on a blackboard on the wall. When he returned I told him I would have the Malbec that appeared in the list and he said they didn't have any of the wines on the blackboard. We then said we were ready to order to be told that he'd be right back. It took him about 5 mins before he returned and took our order. There were only 5 tables of diners, so there were hardly run off their feet. Our food took far too long to arrive - as it was a limited Sunday menu all they had to do was plate up. The roast beef cost £15.95 and was fairly meagre, my plate was full of grease, so much that I had to mop it up with a spare napkin and that didn't completely get rid of it. We all left some of our meal, whilst the meat was good, although my husband was not impressed, some vegetables were overcooked and some under cooked and it was not hot enough. When our plates were cleared the waiter asked us if everything has been alright and I told him the truth. He had no idea how to respond and no one else came over to speak to us about our comments. Very disappointing and expensive. If I could have given it zero out of five I would have.

My wife and our two young children visited The Hollybush Inn for Sunday lunch. Service and food were excellent. We both got the beef roast and they were delicious! The only downside was that it was a little cool in the Inn where we were sitting and no fire going (near us at least). Just a heads up, at the time of us going the prices had been increased as oppose to what was advertised on the website. Nonetheless an enjoyable visit.

After calling yesterday to check you were open for lunch today, I was told yes between 12 and 3...just walked the 2 miles there to find it is closed. To now have to walk back achieving nothing! As a local we keep trying and hoping things will improve, once again a fail. This is after last week not having any bitter available and very little other options as a back up...pub with no beer who don't open when they say they will isn't a pub! Such a shame.

For the last 10 years or so I have arranged a Christmas Curry night for a group of friends in The Holly Bush, my local pub. Over the years we have had some good and some not so good curries, This year was particularly noteworthy when 20 of us showed up. Curry was very good, drinks flowed and service was excellent. Keep up the good work!

We previously visited a few weeks ago and loved the food so much, we couldn't wait to return. We are so glad we did as the food was equally as memorable. My trout and smoked salmon salad was absolutely delicious, as was my partner's roast chicken with all the trimmings. The vegetables were outstanding and cooked to perfection. The village itself is very charming and there are some fabulous circular walks from the front door of the pub. As there was a horse tethered to a table in the beer garden, I'm guessing there are some wonderful bridleways nearby too! We are already planning our next visit.
