Had booked a table for 5 friends 6 weeks before, were told on the phone they were only doing one sitting at 12.30. After driving 6 miles arrived at 12.25 to an empty car park which we found unusual. Went to the front door to read a notice that they were not open that week due to unforseen circumstances, we thought we had left our phone number when booking, but even if we hadn't it was very unprofessional not to take a contact number. What a wasted journey.

Graham Keightley took on this quintessential English pub years ago and with his plain but beautiful menu, his traditional ales and ciders turned into the must-go-to pub. We were friends with him for many years, my husband carried out all the maintenance work and my daughter worked at the Sunday cook. This little pub epitomises Englishness. Great food (try the lemon sole or the steaks and the plough mans with a bowl of home made chips is to die for). Great beer and such a friendly community atmosphere. Highly, highly recommended.

I just don’t understand the rave reviews . One of the group had cod in batter. Lots of light batter unfortunately very little fish. Yes something should have be said to manager but people find it difficult when in a party of people. On the plus side it’s been pointed out ,if you have this problem bring it to the attention of a manager. My ham was nice but that’s about it. It reminded me of lunch served at local cafe. Again a beautiful lovely traditional English pub with about three open fires. Unfortunately not one of them was lit. Why would they not utilise these features. If felt cold and dour & even the lady serving seemed rather dour. The pub was quite packed but it seemed like regular clients. Rather a bland occasion all round.

A really traditional pub with great ales and fantastic staff. Ok it is certainly not fine dining but the food is very good for pub grub and always consistent especially the fish, prices are around £8.95 and it probably serves the cheapest wine around at £3.30 per glass, ales are also great value for money. It has a great atmosphere and the place is always buzzing

Everyone has a different view and what suits one might not suit another but for me this was a truly exceptional example of the great British pub. Considering it's location it has the true atmosphere of a local pub with several real ales on tap and a few locals at the bar. Décor that has accumulated over the years with old photos and an eclectic mix of furnishing took me back many years to the pubs of my youth. Our party of 10 were eating as well as drinking and none were disappointed. A majority went for fish based meals and the general comment was that the batter on the tradditionaly prepared fish was light, smooth and crisp, exactly as it should be. No fancy menu with al sorts of trimmings; just great wholesome food well prepared and at reasonable prices. Approximately a dozen standard dishes plus a special of the day. Desert was again a choice of several good old standards and each was plentiful and tasty. I had the cheesecake and it was great. All complemented by efficient and very friendly staff. Exceptional value for money and a must for a future visit.

Just can't beat this place for country pub atmosphere, tasty freshly cooked food and a good range of beers and ciders (along with the usual soft drinks, spirits and wines). We're regulars here, visiting once a week or so. A lovely little pub. Here since the 19th century. Staff very friendly and accommodating, great range of beers, including Holden’s and Guinness, the menu is simple hearty, well cooked food, without the handicap of being a rip off which you find with several pubs. We honestly love this pub. The menu is slightly basic but that's not a problem. The bar staff and manageress are friendly which is all you can ask for.And to answer the negative reviewers, the pub clearly says about kids being in the pub after a certain hour, so it isn`t as if they spring it on people.

Small traditional 'country' pub, small bar area and two seperate 'dining' areas, warm and welcoming, albeit a little limited on the 'wine choice' front. The food however, although limited in choice to basic 'pub foods', was actually well presented, well cooked, and excellent value. Getting good basic pub grub, with decent and warm service, and generous portions, and excellent value - you couldn't do better... Staff were very nice, quiet talkative, the surroundings: a quaint country pub with many old photos around the room. Toilets: spotless.. plenty car parking spaces at front and rear. My only moan would be we waited about 45 mins from ordering food..to it coming to the table..but that said, it was a busy Saturday night, and freshly cooked food and piping hot....lovely!!! I always thought this pub was a great pub for food and beer. ..It may well be but they don't allow children to dine in the evening. We (8 people, including 2 children aged 12 years and 17 years) were turned away because we hadn't booked. Children aren't allowed near the bar area even for eating only in the top seating area above the bar! !! We arrived at 645pm for a meal and a beer. ..I'm sorry but shan't be going again either making a booking or not. Families are not welcome in the evenings regardless of age even if they are 12 years old and 17 years old and very sensible. This is a proper pub with good service provided by hard working, friendly staff. OK, so occasionally you might have to wait a while for your meal if it is busy, but this is a small price to pay for being served with freshly prepared and cooked food. To those who have complained, remember this is a pub, not a restaurant and they certainly don't charge restaurant prices! And I have never felt that 'regulars'have received preferential service either! The tables were sticky and needed wiping over, the menus tatty and covered in marks where food and drinks had been spilled. The vinegar bottle was dirty and had something nasty growing inside it and it was clear that the condiments set had not been introduced to soapy water for a considerable amount of time. It is a real shame, the building is charming and the staff pleasant, it has such a lot of potential and has plenty of passing trade. We only ordered a lunch of sandwiches and chips. In fairness the food when it arrived was tasty and good value for money. We had decided to give this place a visit following recommendations from friends, I am told their fish dishes are very good both taste wise and value wise. We however were very disappointed and not sure we will be back in a hurry - Sorry!

My daughter chose this pub for a meal for us to meet her new boyfriends mum, her partner and his nan as it was halfway between both homes. We have passed it hundreds of times over the years and never visited.Lovely old welcoming pub with small dining room (and stunning Christmas decorations)Delicious well cooked and presented meals. We weren't made to feel rushed and enjoyed desserts and leisurely coffee to round off a lovely evening enjoyed by all. I personally have an aversion to being asked frequently 'is everything alright?.' This did not happen and our clean plates said it all. We will return very soon.

Been here a few times with friends who rave about the place. Have always enjoyed a nice meal the fish is nice and the price is good but nothing special, and the menu is very limited. The place is always busy with regulars and they obviously get priority meaning that the service is very slow and I often feel like an "outsider" with no right to any attention when dining. I appreciate they have a great number of regulars however I feel they should treat all their diners with the same service.

If you want chips and peas with anything, then this is the place for you...this is how the menu reads. Service was slow and inattentive, so bad we walked out without ordering.

had dinner this week( we dine here often )and once again their fish dishes are outstanding. there is a waiting time ,however when the food is prepared for you specifically (not for the total pub) it is a small price topay for quality.their "fish combo" is to be experienced ,all freshly cooked with hand prepared chips .prices are very reasonable plus real ales at a realistic price.not open all day for food but worth the effort for the dining experience.

A very traditional and friendly pub with very realistic prices. What pub now does a pint of Hobsons ale and a glass of wine for £5.30. The food is slightly better than pub grub, freshly cooked so you may have to wait a while for the very generous portions. It is nicely presented and there is quite a lot of choice. Overall the pub has a great atmosphere with locals drinking there regularly and it is one to definitely try.

Visited this restaurant yesterday with family. Meal took 1 hour to come - those arriving after us served first. Mixed grill was generous in size, but medium steak was nearly raw and had a very large piece of gristle, pork chop had a large piece of gristle in it, and sausages seemed under cooked. The Gammon was not cooked as requested. There seemed no room for movement in the menu - e.g. a request for a sausage instead of peas was 'not possible'. I agree the prices were very reasonable, but the quality of the meal was not. I have eaten here before but shall not be again.

Serves real ales.Hobsons.Great ales from Cleobury Mortimer.Town Crier,Twisted Spier and Mild are the order of the day,and all three are kept in excellent condition. Many keg products are also available with a wide choice, not forgetting the cider,Thatchers Gold and Heritage are available here. A lovely old fashioned pub grub menu is the order of the day for food.As with the drinks, very reasonably priced, probably the cheapest and best value in the area!Everything is fresh except for the peas (frozen),even the chips are freshly made from local spuds each day.Fresh fish battered or bread crumbed on the premises.(Their lemon sole is famous for miles around) The pub itself is like a step back in time with great service from the long serving licencee and staff alike.A wonderful atmosphere, well worth an experience. Very well recommended.

Service-fine Plenty of choice including game. Food-good but why be mean with vegetables? Vegetables are not costly so more than potato plus one green would be better

Awful! The worst fish and chip shop I have been to in a long while. Bought fish chips and curry. The fish was burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside the chips were hard, bitty and few in number and the savoury curry was not nice and repeated on me for hours later, all in all an £11.70 expensive waste of money! Wish I had driven to Seavers.

The cafe is closed, this is now just a petrol station with a garage forecourt. Lorry park still open, charges £20 to park on a litter strewn yard, no showers and only one toilet in the garage which was dirty and had no paper when I called there. Owner rude and arrogant. Avoid unless you're absolutely desperate. There is space for a good thirty trucks there , there were about six when I visited which tells you everything you need to know.
