Fabulous bar and restaurant. All of the staff were friendly and efficient, wonderful food and atmosphere. Live music which was a bonus, not too loud so able to have conversation.

What an awful experience when we complained. We went for a meal three of us and had standard meals. We asked for new potatoes rather than chips. When the meal came 30 minutes plus after ordering the request had been ignored and we were charged for things we didn't have. When we questioned the bill we were told we hadn't been charged enough. The owner was , in our opinion rude and the staff lied. Won't be going again. The customer commitment is lacking. We would say that all previous visits have been good. We note that all the old staff had left and new staff were chatting and eating food and didn't seem bothered . Be warned.

A charming seaside pub falls short due to the poor quality of its bar food. The quaint cubbyhole seating, unfortunately, seems to be infested with small flies, which might have been tolerable if the food had been better. However, the food was disappointing. The pub classics, like fish and chips—especially in a seaside town—should have been perfect, but the fish was tasteless and unrecognizable. The homemade chips were soggy and subpar. Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience, which is unfortunate because the place has the potential to shine. It's evident that the management is cutting corners.

The food was delicious although the wait was a little long (40 minutes). Very friendly staff too. Mind your head as it's very low ceiling

Food was fabulous and staff were really friendly and efficient. Would recommend booking to eat in the restaurant. Went twice in the same week we loved it so much the first time

spent £50 on 2 meals witch turned up almost a hr late and food was freezing cold and small enough to feed a toddler will never order again

Lovely pub and pleasant atmosphere. We had Sunday lunch which was more than enough without starter and desert. The one thing that disappointed was service was very slow, the waitress forgot to take our order and we weren't offered more gravy which we noticed other tables were. They were polite but this doesn't warrant a 5 Star review.

We had a really nice starter and main. To start with local mussels and chicken patches, Then we had tasty homemade burger and trio of fish from the special board. All very well cooked and very tasty. Highly recommended.

We were really looking forward to our visit here, but were sadly disappointed. Monday early evening, so fairly quiet, but we were placed next to the kitchen where we could hear staff moaning to each other. Had a basic meal of fish and chips, which was the worst we have eaten in Devon 🫣 could not finish as was over cooked, such a shame but the positive …..our waitress was lovely.

Lovely old pub. Traditional landlord, very smartly dressed , hands on and aware of everything that was going on. He saw me waiting at the bar just as he was popping out and immediately came back, took of his jacket and served me. First class!

My favourite pub in Torquay. It being a very old pub, you'll have to duck in a few places if you're above 5'10, or so. The place has quite a few items of interesting historical facts along with bits and bobs of maritime exhibition. The food took a little while to arrive, though we'd expected that at a time when it was really crowded; it made up for it in quality though! Highly recommended! The photos were taken the previous day to the time when we had our meal, hence it was just after opening.

Lovely pub in Torquay, full of character with very friendly staff. The food was lovely and we loved the entertainment so staued there for more drinks after our meal. We were a large group, with kids, a disabled nan and we had a dog to top it off. the staff were so helpful with all our needs. A real gem of a find!

My second visit here, and I wasn't disappointed. I had the carrot and coriander soup and braised lamb, and it was delicious. Great food, polite staff all in a 400 year old pub and restaurant. Quickly becoming a favourite.

We did enjoyed this traditional place, just a little overcrowded for our company, but I understand, it was Saturday evening (live music there without announcement). Service could be a little quicker. But that food! We were group of 15 and nobody said any word of compliance (we had lumb, steak, duck, fish...) - everything was great!

Tried here again and it was lovely. Did not disappoint at all. Great meal as usual. Not as busy as before but a really good meal and smashing place. Will go back.

Lovely old pub tucked away from the bedlam of Torquay harbourside. It was packed out when we went lots of people eating and there's a restaurant too, we only had drinks on this occasion.

Great atmospheric pub. A little tucked away but well worth the detour up the hill. Friendly staff, good drinks selection and amazing decor. Very cosy little corner of Torquay which exudes history and charm from every corner. A must on anyone's list.

Was a pretty neat place. Managed not to bump my head! I only had some drinks, so not sure about the food. Lots of people knew each other, which is always a nice vibe, and there was live music. A bit of an older crowd. The staff seemed a bit stressed. But otherwise nice!

Proper ales! A rarity these days. And a good choice, too.

Brilliant absolutely brilliant, staff friendly and atmosphere welcoming. Food, 2 of our party had the medly of fish with dauphinoise potatoes and the other person had the lamb. Both dishes were to die for, so tasty and very generous portions. We couldn't unfortunately manage a pudding. Going by other diners they too looked delicious. Highly recommended.

We went early evening on a wet Monday. We were after good, traditional pub food and it exceeded our expectations, the fish & chips were delicious, crispy batter and the steak & ale pie was the best my husband had ever had (and he thought he'd had good before!) 100% recommend, service was quick and everyone was very friendly. If only we lived closer.

Quaint pub and restaurant not far from Torquay shopping district and harbour. If you're looking for a traditional old-world pub then this is the place to be. Low beamed ceilings and a very old-world atmosphere. This pub is tucked away behind the main drag close to the shopping area and just up the hill from the bustling harbour. We wanted food at lunch time as we'd heard how good their restaurant was, but the restaurant wasn't open at lunch time. They did offer a selection of pub meals and these were really high quality, battered chunky cod perfectly cooked, tasty home cooked ham and perfect garlic muscles. All with the crispness, fresh chips. Space was a bit tight as there was a group of us and many of us bumped our heads on the low ceiling! Looking forward to returning one evening to use the restaurant and have a bit more space whilst enjoying their great food.

Great atmosphere on Tuesday night with the live music, good selection of drinks and friendly staff.

Called in Lunchtime on Tuesday. Beer was excellent. Good service from the young man behind the bar. Went back later as the set up seemed lovely. Food was poor. Chicken in the Mushroom sauce was poor, tough, stringy and dry. Mushrooms limp, And obviously frozen. Entertainment was though provided by the owner/landlord chastising a young barman for something by telling him loud enough for us to hear that he was “Due a bo**ocking” for something he had done the day before! Professionalism at its finest. Great beer, great choice of beer. Just go for the beer……..

What a little find ! lovely spot, we were only there for lunch which was excellent, friendly staff, good food, cosy surroundings. A little haven after my wife had walked my legs off shopping !! Would love to go back when the restaurant was open, looked to be some good deals on the "specials" boards

Another lovely meal at this establishment on our annual trip to Torquay. Plenty of choice and fresh fish dishes on the menu as usual. Staff are lovely and the Jail Ale is always a good pint. We’ll be back 👍.

After looking on trip advisor we chose the hole in the wall for lunch without being able to see a menu should have set the alarm bell but chose to give it a go now I understand why the is no menu online because tat would imply the is a choice but there really isn’t it what they can pull out of the freezer and microwave with chips for the very most they can change Definitely is out for the hospitality trade

My husband and I did 2 evening meals here .On the first evening the food & service was excellent.We spoke with the manager (Richard) and he high lighted the early evening meal deal which we tried the following evening.Again the food was superb. Definitely good value for money & we were made to feel very welcome

We stay in Torquay at least once a year and this is our favorite place to enjoy dinner. The Hole in The Wall is a fabulous old pub/restaurant right next to the harbour. Lovely staff, the food is delicious and the portions are very generous. Some great beers and local ales, brilliant entertainment too. Looking forward to our next visit.

Terrible quality food. Lasagne and chips was missing its chips and side salad. Although the very few chips I did receive with the scampi and chips were disgusting cold and greasy definitely not hand cut. Lasagne was spilt out of its carton all over the bottom of the bag and all of the food was stone cold. Clearly already been reheated so didn’t want to reheat again. Only fit for the bin. Would definitely not use again

What a lovely old pub part of the floor was cobbled ,plenty of seating and tables and some cosy corners .It is up a little hill but worth the climb.

Came here for our new years eve celebration, we booked late due to a cancellation, but so glad we did! Had a great night, we had the buffet for food, we couldn't fault it, really good value and excellent quality. We returned tonight for a meal in the restaurant 2/1/24 again couldn't fault it, the food, staff, and atmosphere was absolutely top quality. Would recommend to all give it a try. The Hole in the Wall is great for that old British pub authenticity but don't go there for the food...you'll wait almost a hour for mediocre pub food and the service is just as poor. We have just started operating a B&B in Torquay and want to encourage our guests to explore what Torquay has to offer. The problem is, how can you promote establishments that don't meet the grade. Sorry, but we were very disappointed with the Hole in the Wall 😞

We had never been to the hole in the wall before and were told that they had a special on which was a main meal and a bottle of wine for two for just under £34. 99. We had steak and it was absolutely delicious, it came with chips and peas. We can recommend this place to eat, lovely decor and friendly staff.

We were looking for a local place to eat and stumbled across positive reviews - so gave it a try, and we were not disappointed. The Bar and Restaurant were busy, but we were immediately welcomed and served so well. There was an excellent menu choice plus superb specials which we both went for. The atmosphere was good, and no noisy music blasting away while you dined. I enjoyed a couple of jars of local scrumpy - great stuff but deadly lol. After our meal there was a duo singing and playing their ukuleles to sounds of the Sixties... after the excellent meal and scrumpy they sounded good!

Went here mid week with a group of friends, about 40 of us. The food and the service were exceptional. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Down turn in the staff. One poor chap on his own on a Saturday night not good.

There was a 1 man band playing when we were there and it was really pleasant. The staff are great, didn't wait for service at the bar for more than 30 seconds all night. They poured a lovely pint of Madri, it's roughly a fiver a pint so you can't complain. Loads of quirky little areas to sit inside the pub. I think it's the oldest pub in Torquay so lots of history, didn't see any spooky goings on though. If you're in Torquay I would 100% recommend The Hole In The Wall for a few pints or a good session. Plenty of bar snacks and they do hot food to.

We had lunch here and the lovely friendly young man behind the bar made us feel very welcome. A credit to the pub coupled with the excellent food, service and the atmosphere here. I had the seafood platter and my wife had the Lasagne which were both extremely enjoyable. Congratulations to all involved in providing a prefect eating out experience. We will certainly visit here again in the near future.
