An actual choice of gluten free cakes that looked tastier than others. Friendly folk even tried to give us our money back instead of the change! Good coffee although slightly concerned the tall latte glasses might blow over in the October winds whilst enjoying the outside seating

As we live near Seaton, I've been waiting for an excuse to try The Hideway, so when my daughter and granddaughter visited us yesterday, that gave us the opportunity to do so on a warm sunny day. Menu choices were good and prices reasonable. As the weather was so good we sat outside right next to the beach. Choice of cafe and location - both good. Our freshly prepared brunch went down well with all three of us, and my daughter commented how friendly the staff were. We'll certainly visit again.

We have called for lunch every year we have holidayed in the area. This year being no exception. We have previously been happy with the service and pleasant approach taken by the staff. Regrettably, the food quality is no longer the standard that we have enjoyed in previous years. The staff are appear to be indifferent and miserable in their work.

Fabulous food, great location right by the sea and attentive friendly staff. We went for one of their special dinner evenings and were not disappointed. My husband and I shared a huge bowl of mussels for our starters followed by a large platter of seafood comprising of a whole dressed crab, crevettes, prawns in sauce rose-marie, cockles in the shell, homemade mackerel pate ( this was my favourite part) large prawns and slices of smoked salmon served with bread and lemon butter. Absolutely gorgeous and so much of it that we had to ask for a doggie bag to take some home. James, the owner/chef and his staff were friendly and cheerful despite it being busy with lots of eager customers enjoying themselves, the food and the great atmosphere. I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Hideaway and will certainly be going back very soon

We went into this cafe for lunch. The prices looked reasonable and there was a good choice. What we didn't realise was that we'd chosen poached eggs and salmon on toast from the breakfast menu. It was drawn to our attention, but the young lady at the till went off to ask the chef whether he would cook it for us. He did, and it was delicious and very good value for money. The cafe is clean and modern. We were talking about our "lunch" long after we left. Thank you to everyone.

We haven't been here for a few years and chose a sunny Sunday morning for a late breakfast/brunch. We sat inside the seaside themed cafe with views through the open door of the sea. There are also some tables by the railings just above the beach. You do need to walk down to the cafe along the flat sea front (wheel chair accessible too). We enjoyed a cooked breakfast and a savoury tea (cheese scone, cheddar and chutney) along with tea and coffee. We also took away some home made cakes for later. Staff were friendly and polite and made for a nice chilled atmosphere. Highly recommend and we will be back :)

Lovely little cafe. Situated at the end of the seafront so nice and quiet. Spectacular outlook - right on the promenade, just feet away from the beach and next to the cliffs. Lovely old building. The cakes were great. We had Victoria Sandwich cake, carrot cake, honeycomb and caramel plus lemon polenta. Coffee good quality with a smooth, balanced taste. Lots of gluten free options which was very handy for us as one member of our party is Coeliac and another gluten intolerant. The, very friendly, owner is also Coeliac so we felt very safe eating there. There are lots of savoury options for breakfast and lunches too, again with lots of gluten free options.

This cafe used to be superb - fabulous breakfasts and lunch - all home made, nothing fried, very interesting and unusual menu. Sadly it’s changed hands and gone rapidly downhill! Limited, greasy spoon type menu - no imagination, everything looked as though bought in bulk from cash and carry and tasted thus. Their excuse was that the other menu didn’t sell! We used to visit regularly and always had to queue and wait for a table 🤷♀️ so very disappointing!

It was a beautiful sunny day…..the Hideawy is a gem….the staff are friendly and very helpful. We had sourced the place online before we went as Gluten Free food was a must! The current menu is not vast as in so many places, but what is on offer…all appeared to be Gluten Free …such a joy for those of us who are Coeliac or gluten intolerant . We had a tea and coffee with a tuna and sweetcorn sub as well as a scampi skinny fries with peas and tartar sauce. Good sized portions and very tasty the scampi was hot but not so hot that it would burn the mouth..There was a wonderful selection of cakes and scones ….all were gluten free….however we had to give them a miss…. We didn’t have room to eat those as well……we shall enjoy going back to sample them another time…..very soon! It was a total delight to find a menu that was all gluten free. Definitely would recommend to Coeliacs.

It doesn’t have a great many tables but there is some seating outside if the weather permits or you are feeling brave as it can get a little windy down there! We walked over from Beer to Seaton and decided to pop in here. The problem with this place is you get totally ignored by the staff. It has been a difficult task to match the excellence of Hazel and her team, but new owner James seems to be managing it. After today's experience, with chef Wayne delivering scallops with black pudding and delicious quiche, plus coffees, all for £25, it matches both quality and value. Tucked away at the end of the prom' in Seaton, it's long been a favourite of ours. Owners and staff have done their best over several years to be consistent. Dogs still lap around tables, which always loses a star for a miserable git like myself. Dogs should be nowhere near a cafe or restaurant which serves food as good as this.

After walking from Beer we were looking forward to our breakfast at the Hideaway. It was just before 9 and we were told rather rudely that we are not open till the flag is out. A simple take a seat outside and we will be open in 5 to 10 minutes would have been much more friendly. We visited Sunday 18th July, whilst mask wearingwas still mandatory, ordered 2 sandwiches, one egg mayo with the addition of bacon and a BLT. We were told no bacon, ok fair enough. So had egg mayo and a pesto, spinach and roasted tomatoes. Both on sourdough. Bearing in mind two sandwiches and two soft drinks were nearly £23, we were looking forward to something special. We were unfortunately very disappointed with what arrived. The sandwiches were very small, particularly the pesto one which was distinctly smaller than the egg one. The roasted tomatoes were 2 slices of tomato that looked hardly roasted at all. These were accompanied by a small portion of coleslaw and dressed leaves. In fairness they tasted nice but definitely not worth the money. Whilst there people finished and left, and their tables weren't cleaned or sanitised after the dishes removed. The older lady (most staff were teens/early twenties) walked around the cafe and from inside to outside tables with her mask under her chin...NOT Covid compliant at all.

I bought two takeaway sandwiches and one bottle of soft drink from this cafe and was charged £21! We had a BLT which had one slice of bacon and a cheese sandwich. Asked if they could do cheese and ham but no, they don’t sell ham. Bacon but not ham! Also no crisps. Crisps are obviously beneath them. We did get a small side salad in the box (which we didn’t really want) and the whole thing was swimming in oil. I would have written this off to experience having realised that this a cafe which appeals to people with special dietary requirements (which is brilliant) and people who are food snobs except for the fact that I think it is grossly overpriced. We could have had fish and chips and drinks from the fabulous Fridays for that! Don’t visit if you just want good quality run of the mill fare.

Just the greatest venue - all the comfort of a fantastic cafe bang on the beach, tucked into the cliff with glorious sea views...home made cakes & scones to die for, & the owner & staff are lovely, could not be more charming & helpful. We loved it & can't wait to go back. Highly recommend the experience!

Lovely spot and the food was delicious. Homemade and the portions were great. The beetroot quiche with Brie and walnut in filo pastry was delicious. Lynn was very friendly and gave us lots of local tips plus a good laugh. Well worth a visit.

Good place for a light lunch in the sun. The daily specials are particularly good. Worth the walk along from the town.

We have visited Seaton a few times before, and on each occasion have eaten or had coffee at the Hideaway. There are lovely views if you’re lucky enough to get a table outdoors. This time we were so disappointed and got no further than reading the menu. Prices were ridiculous! £10 for a cheese sandwich, I kid you not! Maybe it’s changed owners or blame Covid, but we won’t be returning which is a real shame. Interestingly another couple did exactly the same as us, sat down, took one look at the menu and walked off.

Nice location but food not good at all. I was unable to finish my food, it was the worst vegan burger I have had in a long time, possibly ever, swimming in oil, burnt on the outside and undercooked in the middle. Not good to hear the customers on the next table being told it was too much trouble to put a slice of cheese on their burgers as staff were too busy so didn't feel at all confident to address. This is the kind of service and quality of food you would expect from 5 years ago. Things have moved on but this place has a lot to catch up on. On the plus side, signs in the shop suggest a move towards sustainability. Come on guys you are in a prime spot there, make the most of it.

We stopped at the cafe for a coffee and to warm up and decided to have lunch. I had the all day small breakfast which was excellent, the bacon was really tasty and everything was cooked perfectly, not greasy at all. My wife had the Tuna melt panini which she said was the most delicious food she had on holiday in Devon. The service was friendly and quick and everything was spotless.

Decided to visit the Combe Garden Centre, overdue really as we are quite local. Went into the Kitchen at Combe for lunch. We had to wait behind the rope to be seated. I can understand this is busy times, but it was quiet and being seated involved the member of staff giving us a menu and help yourself to a seat. All well and good, but waiting what seemed a very long time behind the rope without even a menu to peruse was just plain daft and annoying. My wife wanted the jacket potato, but it clearly said on the menu this wasn’t available on a Sunday. We spotted a jacket spud being served and after an enquiry we were told we can ignore the menu in that respect. Whilst waiting at our table, we felt sorry for people coming in that wanted a seat with a brolly for shade, the only two tables suitable had ‘reserved for large parties’ on them. These tables held about 6-7 people and remained unused all the time we were there. Seemed ridiculous. Anyway, the positives, the food was promptly served and the quality good and the surroundings were very pleasant and a delight to sit in. Will we come back? Unlikely I feel, it could be so much better but needs better organisation and removal of petty rules.

Car broke down on the Axminster bypass: when fixed I had lost the will to drive another 4 hours so checked into the George Inn. In the middle of an outrageously good Halloween party, the staff were never the less attentive, sympathetic and checked me in quickly. Recently refurbished, the hotel is really and very well furnished and decorated - super comfortable, super clean, super cozy. It’s a little gem, with parking - great value too!
