The Hideaway in Bristol, City of

Vastly overpriced and very poor value. The children’s portions were tiny and we’d ordered double portions! The adult food was good quality, but a bit cold and the portions were not huge. The total bill for 4 adults and 4 children came to over £400, which is ridiculous for a neighbourhood restaurant. The restaurant was practically empty and even then, the service was slow and they bought us the wrong wine. I’ve already vowed never to go again and I’ve just heard that it’s closed down, which is no surprise, given how empty it was on a Saturday night.

We only had coffee, although the food looked great. Sadly, we were put off this restaurant-cafe by the dog culture. We asked to sit in a 'non-dog' area and were met with an unhelpful and dismissive response. We don't appreciate having food or coffee surrounded by other people's noisy and smelly dogs, nor being greeted by a dog bowl in the foyer. We have higher standards than this and are sick of this dog culture dominating our cafes, pubs and shops etc. We would have stayed for food but left earlier.

Booked the Festive menu with a friend just before Christmas.... no special greeting, tables were dull, no crackers or anything to make it feel "Festive", The place was very quiet apart from one other party. Food was ok but portions small and definitely not worth the money. The staff were low key and we really felt we were keeping the, from leaving. We were told several times that they were closing at 10. we had to pay at about 9:30 and then by 9:40 staff were sitting with their coats on waiting for us to finish our drinks. In the end we stood outside to wait for our lift.... it still wasn't 10. Part of eating out is about the occasion and the "fuss" you get from staff. Neither of us are very well off and we'd booked this as a Christmas treat. Very disappointing.

Met up with friends for a Christmas treat.. ordered off the Christmas menu.. Confit chicken leg ballotin with fondant potato and chard. The plate consisted of a very small portion of the chicken which was so dry, 2 very small oily cubes of potato. And three leaves of chard. With a few drops red wine gravy which did not taste of anything.. I left half of it. dessert was Christmas pudding which was lovely.. The meal was very expensive and not worth the money. The waitress was aware that I did not enjoy the food..

Went for a roast here, the ham was good and the roast of the week was braised oxtail wjich was also good and both came with a lovely leek and cauliflower cheese. The puddings were nice, tried the sticky toffee pudding which was lovely! Would recommend.

I've been here many times and love it! Tonight did not disappoint, we had a lovely time, and Josh and Eddie were great, excellent service! We enjoyed trying new things on the menu, and the duck was basically foodgasmic! The crème brûlée was also amazing, I almost scraped the glaze off the plate! Can't wait to come back and order the same again!

I feel very strongly about writing positive reviews in a world where everyone likes to complain. My husband and I visited today at lunch time for my 40th birthday. It was perfect, our waiter Josh/Joshua was so lovely. Prompt with clearing away dishes and taking orders but not so that we felt rushed in any way. He was chatty to make us feel welcome but not so much that that it was overbearing. The food was incredible and very filling, fresh delicious tasty food at a good price point. Great for a vegetarians where normally there would only be a few options. The interior and atmosphere was lovely on a Monday lunchtime, music in the back ground but not too loud. Everything about it was perfect and we've already told so many others about it and will definitely be coming back in the evening when I'm sure it looks beautiful. Sorry we are so fast because the food was so good we didn't take photos.

I had Cajun chicken burger, it was so dry and chewy I couldn’t eat it. When waitress took plate asked if it was ok, I said no it was too dry and chewy to eat. She said oh sorry. Still kept it on bill. Paid but will never go back, also I will discourage anyone else to eat there. It’s overpriced too.

Sadly we were disappointed with our visit. The service was slow and it wasn't very busy. The food itself was tasty but the portions were very small, especially for the price. The burger was the best size, but the duck and pork needed more vegetables with it. The child's chicken and chips had 2 small chicken strips for £8. Our four meals and soft drinks came to over £90, but we left hungry. This was raised when we paid and the server said they would raise it with the chef. Nothing else was offered. We went elsewhere for deserts as we were hungry still.

We have been here a couple of times when it first opened and the food was so poor we never returned. However we heard they hired a new chef with a new menu who had worked in a Michelin star restaurant. We were very hopeful but as we arrived we were told the chef had left and the food was very average although marginally better than last time. Our sons Spag Bol had no bolognaise. We ordered the chateaubriand with red wine jus, pretty sure that wasn’t what we had and the jus had no flavour. Great venue but really poor food. Must be a management issue as it could be so good!

Had breakfast which was good but won't return as my coffee wasn't even half full! The menu didn't say what you got with the various breakfasts & when asked it still wasn't clear.

Well me and my friend went for coffee and something to eat, we went at 4:30ish we were told we had only 1 hr as they we're closing . We thought it’s ok we won’t take more than a hour . We got cheese toast with chips .. well, enjoyed the coffee which was lovely . Even though we were told that they were closing soon we had to wait for our food which took a while and then we’re were served chips which was obviously refried ! We paid £22 for that .. Basically I thought they were trying to get rid of us .

Stopped in for lunch, spacious and clean interior, had the fish and chips which was excellent. Salmon dish and dessert, with beer and wine all went down a treat.

Josh was a breath of fresh air. It was so refreshing to be served by someone who is passionate about their job and values customer service. (Seems to be a rare occurrence these days) the food and coffee was on point, also good value for money. Nice atmosphere and music. There is nothing we could fault about our experience at the hideaway. Ticked all the boxes. We are looking forward to our next visit!

As always, delicious food (duck breast and steak) and wonderful service. Only request would be to put the burger, fish&chips and risotto back on the menu, as well as the new high-end dishes, as they were really delicious and great value when you wanted something less “posh“ of an evening.

Quiet because it’s August, but service was A1 and between the chef and waitress made you feel very welcome - liked the fact they gave us a freebie starter.

Mixed experience here, last time we went they were shutting the kitchen as we went in. Ordered quickly, but food wasn't the greatest. Could be that we got the bottom of the barrel chips, so maybe just unlucky this time? We've been a few times before and didn't have any issues, so maybe it was a one-off... Update, was definitely unlucky that last time! I went since and it was definitely better. Dessert offerings were a bit underwhelming though.

This was not our first visit but it was for the friends we took. I have reviewed them before but our friends were so pleased with the visit they asked us to review anew. I'm sure the notice said that for every member of staff I mentioned there was 10% discount 😁 - Steve, Josh and especially Aly were good fun. The Gnocchi was a let down but the topside of beef and the duck salad were delicious. If you enjoy a Chai Latte, try this one but make it "dirty" 😄. With desserts or cake to £30pp. Plenty of on-road parking. We will be back!

I had an excellent meal here last Thursday! The lamb was very nice indeed, tender and cooked to perfection. The portion size was very generous. My wife had the pork belly which was excellent! The bread and olive were a lovely start to the meal. I'd thoroughly recommend. The service was very friendly and professional, too. I'd definitely return.

Shocking to be completely honest. Went for the “Door Stop Sandwich” £14 so when you read the title and the price tag I’m expecting a serious sandwich. What actually turnt up was terrible. I’m shocked they can even serve it up and expect people to be happy with it. Check out the photos, not door stop bread just normal sliced bread , with the 1 sheet of prosciutto , I was impressed how bad it actually was 😂 I’ve had better sandwiches in a Tesco meal deal. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all, I’ve been a couple times and it’s never been great but today’s experience was the icing on the cake for me. Over priced , over marketed , rubbish! A business just trying there luck price wise because there down the road from Stoke Bishop. Save your money and your palate venture out 10 mins you have Gloucester Road , Henleaze , Redland, plenty of good places.

What a awesome place for family and friends gatherings. They elevate the tradicional dishes (such as a hamburger or the fish and chips) to the next level. Delicious! I love it! Yes, it's not in there City Center but going there worth it! Trust me.

Visited for a lunch with my friend’s Mum for her birthday. I’m leaving a review as the service we received was excellent. The lady serving us was charming to us, found us a nice table in the window and really went the extra mile. Thank you.

Went here with my wife for dinner last night. Sad that they were so badly supported, especially on a Friday evening. I don't think this in any way reflects the quality of the food or service which were top notch, it's purely a reflection of the location and possibly belt-tightening due to the cost-of-living rise. I had the saddleback porcerra with colcannon and red cabbage and it was really delicious with a rich, unctuous (spelling?) gravy. My Mrs had the classic burger which she also thought was very good. All washed down with a very pleasant bottle of Temperanillo. The service we received was efficient, polite and attentive. I will go back again based on my experience last night, no hesitation. I just hope that the restaurant get's more custom, they are certainly deserving of it!

Worst service iv ever experienced. 80 minutes we waited for a portion of muscles and when we finally got our food it was Tasteless and overcooked. I will never go back and recommend you don't

We had the Sunday roast for 4 people today. The service was extremely slow , our drinks came after our food even though we ordered them first ( white wine was warm ). Service was quite disorganised , though there seemed to be lots of staff. The beef my friends ordered, they said was very pink with not much flavour. It was very diffiicult to cut with a normal knife. The nut roast was more of a pie with no nuts, and it didn't come with a Yorkshire pudding as everyone elses did? Bit weird. My roast pork was good , but the potatoes (hiding beneath ) were a bit tough and not crispy. Gravy would have been nice on the side , so we could add as wanted. but again not much flavour, seemed to lack seasoning. The vegetables were definitely the high point . We took friends who were visiting Bristol, but though the food was overall not bad , the poor service made it a bit embarrassing. We have visited before for breakfast, and the service was much better even when sitting outside. It's a lovely place , a bit sad as it could have been so much better, maybe needed a bit more of a steer to the wait staff.

We came for an early dinner so it was quiet for the first hour. Food was good and perfectly cooked. Very friendly service.

Went there for buffet after a funeral. Food was quite nice and staff helpful. They have high chairs for toddlers but be careful as they are quite small and can topple easily. My grandson is 10 months old and it was difficult to extricate him after.

We hosted a dinner here for guests for a special birthday event for my husband. From first contact to the dinner itself, Steve and Steve and James were so responsive and the evening was a great success. Everyone had clean plates as the food, even though they were bringing out a lot of plates at the same time, was of the same high standard as usual. Our guests all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and all commented what a lovely venue we had chosen. Many are planning a return visit. I must also mention Purdey, who looked after us on the evening (alongside Steve) and was a delight. And the kitchen - although I am afraid I cannot name check them (sorry) - still smiling at the end in spite of the busy night. Thank you Hideaway for a fabulous evening.

We popped in last Friday (mid Dry-Jan for many!) for some food & drinks. Both the bar area & restaurant were nicely busy. The bar staff were, as always, super friendly & their service & interaction definitely add hugely to the welcome, atmosphere & overall experience of this stylish bar restaurant in BS9. It’s really hard to find tasty and filling meals when eating out with a food allergy/intolerance and hideaway has fantastic food options for those with allergies is gluten or dairy free. Staff were so accommodating and conscious to make sure food was safe. Highly recommend!

First time here, just happened to be in the area. Lush family friendly place. Staff were well nice and the setup was lovely for the kids. Would be a regular haunt if we were local for sure

Nice place, ordered a doorstep sandwich which came in Kingsmill bread which was disappointing, otherwise fairly sound.

I booked a table for 13 people weeks in advance which was confirmed. I turned up, and was very rudely served by a staff member and was told my booking was for the following day! I was extremely upset and disappointed. They couldn't even be bothered to come up with a solution or alternative. I will not be taking my business here again and would urge others to be cautious when booking with this restaurant. A miserable experience overall.

Very disappointing Christmas lunch for 20 family members. No cranberry for the turkey, no mushrooms for the mushroom bake, no steak...all pre-ordered months ago 🙄 mould on the Tiramisu, which they said was from 'burnt wood' in the kitchen 🤔 they did eventually replace with a "non burnt wood"/mould Tiramisu after we insisted. Sadly the customer service (apart from one member of staff) was laissez-faire to say the least.

Visited for Christmas dinner and absolutely loved it! Friendly staff, delicious food and perfect for kids. Really child-friendly (we loved the kids area) and would 100% recommend. We wish more restaurants were as welcoming to families.

Fabulous gluten free options! Had a lovely evening meal with my father who is Vegan and gluten free and there were plenty of options. Delicious food and excellent service from Anne-Marie. The gluten free lemon tart is highly recommended. Definitely a hidden gem away from the busy city centre!

Great local and v friendly restaurant with fabulous decor making it feel a cut above the usual. Menu is broad enough for a range of tastes and quality was really good too. All this accompanied with excellent accomodating friendly service. Keep coming back.

Once again Steven and his team really impressed me. We held my father in laws wake there today and they pulled out all the stops. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely delicious and all our family were very impressed. Dad loved it there too, so it felt right to celebrate his life there. Anna, James and Pip were so accommodating and kind. I love them all. And the fact that they greeted us with 2 bunches of flowers and cards was a lovely touch.

Disappointing breakfast! Lovely welcome from maitre’d. Food service very slow. Of our 5 plates, two sat on the counter under the heat lamps for almost 10 mins. Of the Eggs Benedict, all eggs were over-cooked, the plates were ice cold so food was as well, the toast was cold ordinary unbuttered bread, not sourdough, the very small drizzle of Hollandaise sauce made the whole plate dry. Of the other plates, I noticed the streaky bacon was flaccid and not crispy. On the bill the espresso was charged as £3.30, not £3 as on the menu. We weren’t being treated so I didn’t make a fuss but I cannot recommend nor would I return. Such a shame!

I've visited here 3 times and each time they've tried to overcharge me. This can't be a coincidence. It's a nice looking place and the food isn't bad but if you do visit keep a very careful eye on your bill. I shan't be returning.

This restaurant is stylish, modern and a hidden Gem in Stoke Bishop. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. They are attentive and check on your throughout the duration of your stay. You can see the food being freshly made in the open front kitchen. The cleaning standards are very high. Tables were quickly cleaned as other diners left. You can book a table online. There is a good range of food available on the menu, and the good is amazing! I can't wait to visit again. Toilets are very clean. Tables are available inside and outside. We visited again for the Halloween party and they went all into. Everyone was dressed up and the themeing in the restaurant was really good.

Chronically understaffed. The one waitress tried her best but seemed to be unsupported by the other guy who mainly stood behind the bar. Even when we ordered drinks directly from him (as no one had come to the table) he forgot to make them and we had to ask the waitress to chase it up.

Very understaffed. Food and drinks took ages to come out, and our starter was forgotten about. Coudnt fault our waitress however, she did the best job she could serving the whole restaurant by herself.

Enjoy coming here as a treat as it is a little expensive compared to other restaurants serving similar

I found staff hurried you up, I felt I couldn't sit and enjoy a catch up with a friend.
