Lovely setting and staff, but poor quality food and only half a slice of tomato in a tomato salad and a cheap bread roll used in the BLT. Disappointing

My three friends and I had a lovely lunch here yesterday, a Saturday. The ladies serving us were very friendly and helpful. This café is outside but in a sheltered spot with giant parasols protecting you from rain or too much sun. Each chair is draped with a stylish blanket to wrap yourself up in should you feel chilly. Obviously the food comes from the Hungry Guest shop so it's all seriously delicious! The savoury tarts and the cakes looked particularly amazing! The loo was spotlessly clean which isn't always the case in cafés. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. It's a quiet comfortable spot to sit and chat too. We loved it.

This time for Nick Brandt's stunning Photographs on the plight of sub Sahara Africa. But Windy today, with Table Heaters, Rugs and a substantial roof covering almost toasty. Cortado as fine as remembered. On this occasion twinned with extremely fresh Pain au Raison. We well return. Hayling Seagoon

Was really looking forward to going to Hungry Guest new venue but was so disappointed. Not a patch on original cafe. There were a total of three people in there but the server insisted he was so busy we couldn’t have china cups as he didn’t have time to wash up so we had to make do with paper cups. No plate for our cake either - same reason given - so cake in a paper bag. Just not good enough and won’t go back again.

Another reason to visit the Exhibitions at Newlands House Gallery. Right outside in a walled garden sits the Hungry Guest. Outstanding Coffees and a delicious, range of cakes and snacks, all produced from ingredients obtained locally. Special mention should be made of the Sausage Sandwiches served with Red Onion Marmalade. Having enjoyed Eve Arnold, we returned for melt in your mouth Muffins, another Cortado and a Pot of Tea. Super service. It may be outside but with extensive awnings, overhead electric fires and blankets for ones laps it is extremely cosy. Do try it. Hayling Seagoon

I was appalled to be charged £12.95 for a small round quiche which had burnt pastry and was hard. This was served with a few leaves even though I asked if it came with salad. When I objected to paying this ridiculous amount my complaint was met with indifference and my pot of tea was deducted from the bill. What an insult. I will quite happily pay for decent food but this is an absolute rip off. Pizzas were a tenner so someone needs to reset the menu prices. May I suggest the Cowdray cafe, Midhurst, for value for money excellent food and friendly staff.

We popped to this cafe yesterday. The setting is lovely but the prices are just something else. I ordered a Greek salad for £7.50 which was the size of a small side salad with hardly any feta to be found. My partner had a wrap which for £10 was not what would be expected for that price. Wouldn’t come back. Felt completely ripped off. I was hungry by the time I got home!

The café is in a really pleasant spot, in a courtyard garden under canopies - perfect in the May sunshine. The food is simple but fresh and well-prepared and tasty. Great for a light bite! The staff are very friendly and attentive too.

Passing through Petworth looking for late lunch we discovered the cafe ,set in very pleasant surroundings with easy parking , food and coffee were ok nothing to set the world on fire though, biggest downside was the prices, £9.95 for a toasted sandwich and £3.50 for a coffee is borderline Micky taking ,like other reviewers have said maybe your captive audience are ok with these prices

We had planned to stop off at the Coco Cafe & Sugar Lounge this afternoon but found it unexpectedly closed, then saw a sign for the HG Cafe and decided to track it down, having seen some nice looking cakes in the Hungry Guest deli/shop earlier. As others have said, the HG Cafe turned out to be another outside walled terrace area but thankfully in Feb, well equipped with blankets on each chair and impressive overhead heaters, so we soon felt comfortable. We enjoyed a warmed pecan pie slice and a millionaires shortbread with a tea and hot choc. All good. And peaceful when other cafes were busy, as just slightly hidden away from passing trade. Re the previous comment about tomato ketchup, the lady serving advised others near us who asked for it that it was a controversial topic there, but that they were due to introduce a posh version soon!!! Rather strange. If u don't want branded bottles on tables, if you think it looks downmarket, it's easy enough to decant into little dishes when needed, as some pubs etc too. A silly thing to decline to offer if u want satisfied customers when serving savoury dishes, altho didnt affect us today.

We had the audacity to ask for tomato sauce, only to be told by Dave it was an upmarket establishment and as such did not offer sauces. The coffee was dishwater standard, the egg bland and Dave objectionable.Apart from all that we will not be visiting Petworth again.

What a Find. Slightly hidden away behind the Newlands House Gallery, but what a Treat. Yep, it is outside, but I have visited twice in January and it's just fine. You are under cover and heaters / rugs are available to keep customers snug as a bug in a rug. The Cortado - my current favourite - is first class. To date have tried the Almond and Cheese / Chutney Croissants. Both good in really, really fresh Croissants. Often not the case. The current Exhibition in Newlands House Gallery (see separate review) is of the legendary Journalist / Photographer, Lee Miller. Check it out. Hayling Seagoon

Excellent, came with my father and two children, scones were super, brilliant hot chocolates and my Dad says the coffee was great (he’s very fussy!). Staff were lovely and the blankets were a nice addition as we were outside although we didn’t need them as we were under a heater - it was 3 degrees!

We had been round the gallery so outdoor heated cafe very convenient. Service OK - reasonable choice of snacks but the drinks ( tea & coffee) were we felt overrpiced and food also bit pricey although tasty enough. Assume they have a captive market in a touristy town.

This was a great place, so handy for the gallery and a lovely outdoor (but covered and heated with blankets too) cafe. The menu was varied and my red onion marmalade, musroom and hummus toastie was unusual and delicious. It was very busy and the waitron seemed run off her feet, though she did admirably. We understood new owners / managers had just taken over, we wish them well

We arrived for lunch on a Saturday and were asked to find ourselves a table , which we did,. The only table available for two needed to be cleared and the one server only half cleared it. We then waited to order but the server never reappeared. Whilst the service was very poor the worst bug bear were other customers with dogs - one group had 3 dogs that set up a furious barking any time another dog passed through the alley. This then set off another customers dog in the cafe. Definitely not my idea of a relaxing lunch - would not recommend.

This cafe is one of very few in my nearest town. I like the atmosphere, its contemporary , set in a walled garden (outside with a canopy over and patio heaters and blankets when its chilly) Its very convenient for me, However the coffee is very bitter, I had one cup yesterday then had to revert to tea. I didn't enjoy the coffee at all. There appears to have been some new staff. I had a friendly welcome. However we were asked if we wanted more drinks when we hadn't finished our first yet, ( a bit pushy, and there were loads of empty tables so not like we were using up space) then when we wanted to order more I couldn't get anyone's attention for ages, eventually after 10 minutes trying, I got up and went to the counter. The food served is good but a very limited menu, and small portions for example a lovely quiche is served with just a tiny handful of green leaves, nothing else, it seems like the smallest they can get away with, and its expensive. Putting a decent side on the plate would go a long way towards having satisfied customers who would return. The soup is a generous portion, but not enough bread served with it. again short sighted.

Our new favourite café treat! We visited for brunch and the customer service is absolutely excellent, as was the food. We had smashed avocado and smoked salmon on sourdough bread, and a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. For our “breakfast pudding”, we had a cream tea - scone with clotted cream and jam - and a chocolate brownie. Lovely area to sit, undercover from the rain was much appreciated. The staff were lovely and extremely quick to rectify the problem that they had had with the freezers causing the bagel to not come out quite right. They’re really kind and the coffee is also excellent! We will definitely be returning at our earliest convenience. Highly recommend.

We arrived at around 2 ish on 6th April 2023. Our first impression was that they were closed it was very dark and quiet. We did some some other people sitting at tables so we waited by the sign that said "Please wait here to be seated"... And we waited, and we waited, and we waited... At last, a staff member came into view from behind the bar. He then diligently avoided eye contact and proceeded to completely ignore us. He disappeared back into the kitchen. That's OK I thought, he's probably telling somebody that there are customers waiting to be seated. The same staff member made another brief appearance behind the bar and once again ignored us. Game over, we left and went on to have a fantastic meal at a restaurant called "Bill's" just around the corner. Rule 1, page 1: Even if you're busy, do not ignore customers ever! "Apologies for the delay folks, somebody will be with you very shortly" is all he needed to say in order for you to keep a customer and avoid a scathing review. What you have done is loose me as a customer, not just in Chichester, but nationwide, forever. Which is a shame because I really like your food.
