Booked an afternoon tea here for myself & 3 others for 28/12/23. Booked & paid for online via CFT site before today's event. I got sent a text reminder including a link to my e-tickets for today. The Minerva Bar is on the first floor via stairs or lift. QR codes needed on arrival. We got seated & advised any drinks outside of the included tea were extra (which I assumed anyway). English breakfast tea in teapots arrived along with a selection of 4 different finger sandwiches, sausage rolls with caramelised onion, a variety of both sweet & savoury scones & 3 types of petit fours to finish. The waiting staff popped over periodically to ask if we needed anything (we topped up both teapots & milk at no extra cost). I've only ever attended the Chichester festival theatre & it's cafe previously (opposite), nothing I've seen has been in the Minerva theatre, so this was my first time here. I understand that sometimes you can have a pre theatre meal here (I'm assuming there's more info on the CFT site regarding this). On this occasion the bar was open specifically for the afternoon tea of which there was us plus 3-4 other tables, so I can't comment if usually it's more busy/noisy. If it wasn't dark you could probably see the theatre opposite & the green open space. There's a large pay to park car park a short walk away. You pay up to 8pm. Cards taken. Not appropriate to take photos on this occasion as took the "older generation" out with us to eat. Lovely few hours out.

We weren’t expecting very much to be honest, and certainly the reception was fairly offhand. After rejecting the poorly placed table, which had been booked a couple of weeks before, we were able to secure a table near the window, which was much more pleasant. After the unfortunate impression given by the Reception lady, some body standing in from one of the offices, I believe, the members of the young staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. A particular mention for Coral, who was especially helpful. We decided to have three courses as we had plenty of time before the matinee. I started with smoked a mackerel rillettes, I liked the idea of the confit of beetroot. Which sadly turned out to be three of the tiniest cubes of ordinary beetroot I should imagine it possible to cut, a leaf or two of chicory and a slice of cucumber surrounding a small heap of mackerel. No toast not even a single slice of sour dough. How is one to eat it? I asked and was told that if I required bread it was an extra £4 for a roll. The main course was ‘roast sirloin of beef’ - sounds good? Two slices of pallid pinkish edible but tasteless long cooked meat - sous vide? Quite repellent. I ate a token amount but could not bring myself to make more of an effort. My companion chose better with the grilled sea bass which looked and apparently tasted delicious. My bad choice, even though not so keen on fish anything would have been better than that pallid tasteless ‘beef’. The lemon posset to follow was acceptable. A small selection of wine by the glass, but well chosen. Around £40 or so each. Not a meal to remember with pleasure.

Pre show dinner so expectations not high since time is limited. However, we all thought menu choices were good and the food was well presented and delicious. Having slated the restaurant under Field and Fork’s tenure, we are now looking forward to returning at future shows.

We booked the Minerva Bar and Grill space for a wake for my mother who had recently passed in late April. Her love of the theatre meant this was a perfect venue. From when I made the first phone call to the delivery of service; Amanda was amazing. She interpreted my needs very well which lead to seamless delivery of service - outstanding service. All of the staff on the day, including Hugo the manager were just brilliant. Attentive and kind, nothing too much trouble. Our guests commented on the food, and service of all the staff, and all of our needs were met beautifully. Would definitely recommend.

Back here for a post matinee dinner, last of the festival run for 2022. This time our meal for five was better than when we visited earlier in the summer. We all enjoyed the food, even going the whole hog with three courses which at around £32 a head was good value. Service was much improved too this time round with a different set of friendly enthusiastic young staff. Restaurant was busy but with a good atmosphere.

After visiting the theatre for a matinee performance in the main theatre on the 11th August l had booked a table for 7 in the Minerva Bar and Grill. Booking for a table in the Brasserie was not an option on that day. Our friends and l had dined there on previous occasions and we had always been pleased with our meal. I need to tell you that we were all disappointed with what was on offer and completed a feed back form expressing our views. The first problem was the complete lack of choice on the main menu…a meat burger or a vegetarian burger. The waitress even had to check with the kitchen that there were actually any vegetarian burgers and this was at 6.00pm. The reply was that there were just two. The quality of these was not of a high standard and neither was the meat burger. As the burger option didn’t appeal to my husband or two of our friends we chose the smoked salmon sharing platter which we found to be a very small amount for two at the high price charged. We didn’t bother with desserts. I must say here that the service throughout was good. We have been regular patrons of the theatre for many years and have enjoyed meals before and after performances. I have been informed that the option to dine in the Bar and Grill is not available at the moment for ‘operational reasons’ The standard of entertainment at Chichester Festival Theatre is recognised as being of the highest quality and l am afraid that our dining experience doesn’t match up to that. I don’t think that we will be tempted to dine here again.

We attempted to book the Ivy to try it but it was full so we reverted to our usual fall back, the restaurants at the theatre where we've usually had a good meal. This time it was not so good. The menu read well but in reality fell short. One of the starters included sliced peaches which sounded a good foil for the other more savoury ingredients. However, it was like eating a potato, hard and tasteless peach slices - yuk. The main courses were disappointing but the salmon seemed passable to those of our party who ordered it. Single desert order was forgotten about and another starter was brought instead! It eventually it arrived after chasing the staff. It wasn't worth the wait! Usually the service here is excellent, friendly and willing. This time it was lazy and careless. The musical, Crazy For You was truly excellent which had us in a good mood so we overlooked these short comings - this time.

Had dinner here after a matinee performance of The Taxidermist's Daughter (not Chichester's best). Good if small menu which figures if you are attending a performance. Our group was happy with all their choices, tasty, nicely presented by charming helpful youthful staff. One main course portion was noticeably smaller than the rest served (same dish) but we evened it out (someone should have checked it before leaving the kitchen) and bread was extortionately charged for (we should have passed on that really). Otherwise all good. Place was comfortably busy with a well shod Chichester crowd (this restaurant has increased prices since last visit but £33+/- for three courses with out drinks is still not too bad). Wonder what will happen when The Ivy eventually opens - will custom gravitate to there despite being less conveniently located?!

My wife and I ate at the Brasserie last night before a terrific play at the Festival theatre. This will definitely not be repeated in future! Firstly we ordered two IPA beers and 2 courses from a limited menu. The waitress was charming. The beers arrived within about 1 minute but we're not the beers ordered but a blonde lager instead. These were changed but not the glasses which should have been 500 ml matching the beer. Within another two minutes the food arrived. Both of our plates were extremely hot with lukewarm, no doubt microwaved, food. The pulled lamb with herb crust had no crust, served with pearl barley and root vegetables, was served with two tiny heritage carrots which were so undercooked I was unable to even put a fork in them to cut them. The second 'root' vegetable was baby leek also lukewarm and undercooked. The lamb looked totally unappetising but tasted reasonable. If it had been hot and more freshly cooked may have been more pleasant. My wife had smoked haddock on top of mashed potatoes and wilted greens with a creamy whole grain mustard sauce. It also was served on an extremely hot plate but the food was vaguely warm and had clearly also just been microwaved and quite dried out. The desert and cheese platter were both fine although the Sussex blue cheese incredibly strong and pungent. When the bill arrived had been overcharged as two deserts of lemon posset had been charged for instead of one. This was quickly rectified when I noticed it, but should never happen! I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Poor food , at high prices, and enormous inattention to detail. The waiting staff were charming, the chef might try a different profession! This place has a very limited menu, with 3 'specials' for each show. The offer yesterday was Steak, Moules or Gnocchi. No 'middle of the road' food like chicken or salmon. We ordered a starter crab crumpet. The first one had circles of blue mould on the bottom! It was replaced but even then it was cold and uninspiring. The service was chaotic, funny to watch orders being turned away time and again but it's not what you're paying for in a place like this. Our main courses were delayed by 25 minutes as the order hadn't gone to the kitchen properly. The panna cotta was like rubber and when you're paying £7.50 for it, I expect better. And then to add insult to injury we were overcharged. The front of house staff are lovely but the 'chef' has created an apparently fancy menu at extortionate prices which they don't appear to have the skill to deliver. Even the drinks prices are inflated - a 200ml (mixer size) diet coke is £2.75 (or £13.75 a litre!). If it wasn't for the front of house staff I would rate the place terrible. I certainly won't be going again.

Quoting from the menu "The Lamb Rump of South Downs Lamb, Harissa Couscous, Wilted Spinach and Chickpea Hummus", which is being served now (August 2021) is full of sinew and hard to eat. I discussed this with the manager who was brilliant, she said that they had had trouble with the supply of lamb and from my experience, they have not fixed it. My response to her was that they should use a better quality of meat, but I doubt that they will do that because of cost. I was given 50% discount on the cost of the lamb course, so it pays to give feedback on the spot. Everything else was brilliant except the automatic 12% service charge which I hate.

Whoever is now behind this restaurant has completely turned it around. The staff are genuinely friendly, the atmosphere is great and the food is superb. The dishes feel like they are freshly made which even some highly regarded restaurants I've eaten at don't always manage. I would suggest having the full three courses because the portion sizes are not huge. The dishes are creatively done without being so esoteric as to be offputting. The main courses are slightly better than the desserts, but that is only because the main courses are surprisingly excellent. Overall a great experience, and it's pretty good value too. And I'd recommend eating there even if you're not going to the theatre afterwards.

Having eaten in The Minerva Bar and Grill a couple of times in the summer when the food was good, some light choice of menu, well presented, we were naturally looking forward to the same standard of food the other evening. Sadly this was not...

We were away for a birthday weekend and wanted to make sure we had a good dinner before the show. The Bar and Grill was a great choice. Lovely food and genuinely superfast service meant we were in our seats with none of the fuss...

There are two restaurants here. Downstairs is the Brasserie and upstairs is the Grill. The menus are slightly different. The food passes muster but the real reason for eating here is proximity to the theatres. It’s an efficient process and most convenient.

We booked the restaurant as a pre-theatre birthday treat and were very disappointed. Plus points first: Buzzy atmosphere, attentive and pleasant staff and swift service. Downsides: The starters were very small and unappetising, in particular the Rabbit terrine was insipid and rubbery and the sardines...

We booked a pre-theatre table in the Brasserie restaurant, not the bar and grill -- necessary to ensure a table is available. They are geared up to finish everyone's meal before the theatre starts at 7.30. The staff are mainly young students, but very helpful...

This is a lovely place to have lunch before a show. There are friendly staff, nice decor, calm ambiance, and tasty food. There wasn't a large variety of options, but I was immensely satisfied with the tomato soup, which I found very delicious.

You have to book as the brasserie gets very busy pre theatre. They do nice gins- always a good choice. I had the sea bass which was over cooked but tasted ok. And we finished with a cheese plate of local cheeses which was nice.

Good food and not too unexpected price considering the location. Food served by charming staff. 2 courses fine for us. Smoked haddock and an asparagus and artichoke tart. Eton Tidy (parfait type) and Pimms sorbet. Out in plenty of time for the performance. Perfect
