Go for a pizza/pasta in Chichester; fab dinner, great service and brilliant staff, esp the manager. Delicious pizza/combo.

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Visited Pizza Express in Chichester, and unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The restaurant was relatively quiet, and they seemed well-staffed, but despite this, they lost our order of two kids' pastas and a chicken pizza. We waited over an hour for our food, only to find out the delay was because they misplaced the order. There was hardly an apology, which made things worse. When the food finally arrived, the pasta was burnt and had to be reordered. The second one was a bit burnt too. Overall, the service was terrible, and we were left really unimpressed. Not a place I'd recommend based on this visit.

Went to pizza express a couple days ago, they took my order, I waited 45 minutes for the food to come and once it did, it didn’t even have the chicken in it. It was just tomato pasta. I would understand if the restaurant was busy, but they had 4 tables including me. Not impressed

We dined in on a Saturday lunchtime and unfortunately we were in the restaurant for over two hours, however the staff were really apologetic and comped the bill for us. The manager came over to speak to us which we really appreciated, and our waitress was really friendly. The staff are always amazing at this pizza express every time we’ve been and the service is usually quicker so it definitely won’t put us off. The food was good as always :)

Well the BIG and only complaint is the 1 hour wait to receive our food. This would have been more acceptable had someone come to us and told us there were problems and our food would be delayed and the reason why. Then we could have made a decision based on what we were told. We had our grandchildren with us, age 10 and 12 and they were very patient considering they were already very hungry when we arrived just after 12.45. We didn’t start our meal until 2 pm! This spoilt our experience particularly as we planned to have a browse in some shops in Chichester with our Grandchildren before going to Cineworld to see Despicable Me 4. This was not possible due to spending so long in Pizza Express!! Such a shame as we have been visiting Chichester Pizza Express over many years now and we felt this was unacceptable service. It would have been so easy to keep us informed as staff knew there was a problem with the service time and we could see other people complaining. Please don’t let this happen to other people. It doesn’t need to happen does it? Just inform people what is happening in future and you will avoid people complaining!!

Luke was absolutely amazing last night. My boy wears sensory headphones and he immediately recommended where to sit that was quiet, he was great with my son and daughter. I was struggling at one point on my own with a very upset baby he helped by giving my children a treat to distract them and help calm them down. And once it had, he commented how well I had done in that situation. Now to hear that from a stranger when you are an overwhelmed Mum really meant the absolute world. Thank you Luke so much for last night, it was just those small touches in the service you provided that really goes a long way, you are an asset to the company!

Don’t bother. 15 min wait to be seated for a 6pm booking. 1 hour wait for food & general poor service. The other outdoor table left as we arrived and a seagull finished the leftovers for the majority of our sitting as no one cleared the table. £50 for takeaway pizza in the end due to show booking at 7:30pm.

Food was pretty good, although the Padana pizza was a little sweeter than usual. Service was good, but we were seated on a big table as a couple. We had to ask twice for water. They were all very friendly and accommodating though.

Huge thanks to manager Luke and his great team for a wonderful evening Friday 16 August. We were a big group and they moved tables to sit us, and the service was excellent start to finish. A happy evening.

Never write reviews but came on here to see if other people have had similar experiences as I was so shocked that Pizza Express was so awful. It's usually amazing! Rock hard kids meal pasta. When I asked if we could have one that wasn't undercooked I was taken aback with the reply of the waitress" oh yes I should have warned you that's how ot comes. It's gluten free and there's nothing I can do about it sorry" Had to ask manager and he just swapped it for a pizza. If you don't enjoy undercooked rock hard pasta shapes avoid the kids bolognase on the picollo menu.

Staff were really lovely, attentive and accommodating. Food just really wasn't worth the £30 per person. Cheesy dough balls were rock solid. Carbonara, packet pasta and was tasteless. Dessert was OK but not worth the nearly 8 quid for a piece of brownie and a scoop of ice cream. So very expensive.

Good food but toppings need to be more ,and also more choice

Entered around 11am when they first opened. The waitress was lovely and brought us our drinks promptly and went the extra mile. Our starters came which were lovely, then our mains. I ordered the new pasta al forno on the menu. When I received it, it was hot which was good, however it had no taste whatsoever, there was definitely no seasoning in the pasta at all, it tasted like they dumped cooked pasta into a pot with double cream and that was literally it. I mentioned to the waitress and she took this back straight away. The chef then came out and told me I was wrong and that it was "made to spec". Clearly the customer isn't right in this establishment. As a chef I know what that means myself. They essentially cooked it with the bare amount of ingredients possible, to "pass it off" so they could serve it out. I told them I would like something else instead. The chef agreed, the restaurant started getting busy, he became a waiter and helped out front of house, about 25 minutes went by and he was serving and taking orders from other tables that had just sat down and he or the other waitress still hadn't come back. At this point everyone else had already eaten so I asked for the check and the main to be taken off which it was. Will not come back here again. Could make the pasta I was served at home but much better with flavour myself. Not worth the money.

We came here because we were let down by Franco Manca. So our second choice. The service was fab. Nice smiley staff and great service. Good tasty food. My first visit here and we will be back. Thank you.

It was quiet but service was slow but worth the wait

I want to give credit for a delicious food but the service was not that good. When we arrived one of the staff was on his phone and took us a few minutes to let us in.

My partner and I visited the place last Sunday first impression was good but it quickly went down hill from there . we was shown to a table and ordered our drinks 20 minutes later our drinks arrived then we ordered a starter to share 40 minutes later it finally arrived .it wasn't exactly busy only half a dozen diners .then we ordered a one pizza between us just short of a hour later it arrived it was literally thrown at us so obviously we was happy about the wait and the service I as to see the manager and someone called Elaine came over she could hardly walk because she was on crutches also she was waiting on tablets which I thought was ridiculous for someone who could hardly walk trying to juggle customers food I complained about the service and the amount of time she wasn't interested and just gave me a dirty look .we paid and left and the staff that was there all gave us dirty looks .this is the worst eating established I have ever been in and it's safe to I won't be back again.

The menu offers a variety of options, catering to both classic and adventurous tastes. For the main course, I opted for the Vegan Funghi di Bosco pizza. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful mushrooms. Very happy with everything and look forward to going back!

On arrival showed staff my blue light card offering 20o/o off total bill. When the bill came the waitress tried to scan my card , said it wasn't registering and would do the reduction manually at the till. I paid the bill and gave a 10o/o tip, then before leaving I checked and hadn't been given my full discount. I queried this with the managers who informed me there was nothing she could do as I'd paid. Instead of getting £11 .50 reduction they'd only given me £,6. Not good enough

The food was great but the wait was dreadful which was a great pity, it was well over an hour. It didn't appear to be busy, either when we arrived or while we were there. A member of our group had to leave with her food in a box, because had she waited she would have missed her train. The manager did take our drinks from the bill in recompense but it was the an unfortunate part of a lovely day with friends.

Lovely staff who were working their socks off and good food once it arrived. Sadly the atmosphere and service was ruined by the constant Deliveroo orders. The take outs and delivery orders definitely seemed to have priority. Such a shame as everyone was working so hard but we probably won't go back

Shout out to Luke! He was friendly, prompt and all around great waiter/manager. Pizza was excellent. Couldn’t fault our visit.

This is a lovely place and location to eat, staff are warm and welcoming however when I had come to dine at this particular establishment my issue was the waiting time, after me and my partner had ordered we had waited the average time of 20-30 minutes, after the time had passed it had then become and hour before our food came out. The food was delicious but when calling on a server for condiments we had then waited an extra 15 minutes before eating. In addition to this when calling for the bill we had waited 30 minutes before reminding the server who had clearly forgotten that we had asked. The restaurant had around 5 tables full so I am unsure on the hold up, would still recommend this place if you have the patience.

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for her birthday dinner on Friday evening. Although we were seated quickly, the drinks took around 20 minutes to arrive, which was a disappointing start. The wait for our starters dragged on, and an hour passed without any food. We noticed other tables around us also complaining about delays, so we assumed the staff was aware of the issue. Eventually, a staff member approached us to check if everything was okay, as we still had not received our food. I informed her that we had been waiting for an hour without receiving our starters. She went to check on our order, and then the person who originally took our order, who I assume was the manager since he was not wearing the typical uniform and seemed to be coordinating with the staff, came over to inform us, rather sheepishly, that he had never put our order in. As a result, we would not be getting our starters at all. He offered to provide our mains for free as compensation, which is a fair gesture, but the long wait had already ruined our evening.

Terrible service, put our order in, waited an hour and a half for food which never came. Would not recomend to anyone

Very accommodating to deliver personally to our doorstep at a business in Chichester hosting 35+ people, they really went out their way to host! Pizza was great quality and they accommodated to the allergies that we had. One thing I would recommend is to label the different pizzas, but can't fault it! Thanks Luke and team, highly recommend!

I had a lovely evening there last night and enjoyed an artichoke and Quorn chicken pizza as well as their delicious new mushroom arancini, both recommended to me by the lovely Poppy who was professional, informed, smiley and welcoming. My last night on holiday absolutely made. Thank you!

Filthy tables that don't get cleared for ages after people have sat there. Staff are so slow, uncaring and have a bad attitude.

Absolute shocking experience. The gluten free pizza was undercooked and my daughter’s pizza was burnt. One young girl was running around trying to serve everyone while the Manager just stood observing and talking to the chefs. The chefs were so busy messing about which led to the undercooked pizza and the burnt pizza. Eventually the manager agreed to take off price of under cooked pizza but didn’t even bother to come and talk to me herself. No apology from her or any form of communication. LI would not recommend this pizza express. Very upsetting experience and certainly won’t be using this particular restaurant again. Such a shame as was meant to be a pleasant evening.

I am Coeliac and had the most amazing Pizza last night. Nothing was too much trouble and I also managed to have Dough Balls - thank you Pizza Express. Our waitress was absolutely lovely also and actually usually works in the Arundel restaurant but Chichester needed help. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but she is a great asset to you. Thanks again, I will be back.

On a very rainy Sunday night, we sheltered in Chichester's Pizza Express, and enjoyed some of the best pizza. Likeable staff, and excellent pizza , wine and soft drinks. Just what we needed, and have come to expect from other PE restaurants.

We pitched-up on a slow weekday lunchtime, the place was empty, but we stood by the till for a while waiting to be seated. After perusing the menu giving it my full attention and choosing 2 options, our waitress returned and I asked for my first choice. Sorry no, can't have that, we've run out of BBQ sauce. That put pay to my 2nd choice too, so had to re-look at the menu and choose a 3rd choice. It arrived a while later, it was fine but very thin, with little topping. I understand problems can happen but running out of a staple pizza ingredient in a pizza restaurant is pretty rubbish.

I came with my family for a birthday lunch. Wish we had spent our money elsewhere. It was all very dirty. Dirty table, still had sauce over it, dirty glass, hair on my knife and toilets were filthy, with no loo roll or soap. Not an enjoyable birthday lunch at all. Won’t be recommending or returning.

Wasn’t impressed to wait an hour for a pasta dish that was over cooked and under cooked all in one. Waiting staff were rude and the atmosphere wasn’t great. Won’t be retuning to this one!

Think this franchise is a poor one which is a shame as PE used to be an institution. Bombarded with marketing we made a booking. Waited say 3-4 mins for a table, which had food on the floor, moved tables and then sat there while the staff moved shelving around and served at minus 5 mph. After 10 minutes we gave up. In South Street there are 3/4 other brands serving pizzas and frankly better. Sorry it was nice knowing you.

Recently in Chichester for a day out with friends we decided on Pizza Express for lunch. Despite being half-term it was no more than 30% full with many empty tables. When our request for a table for 4 was passed on, having not booked, with no explanation the unsmiling stoney faced day-manager curtly informed us that they were not accepting "walk-ins". We left and went to a rival national chain where we were greeted cheerily, shown to a table of our choice and served lunch by the smiling friendly and attentive staff. So, if you're really set on Pizza Express in Chichester, better book it. Better still, skip it and go somewhere else in town.

Came here without a booking on busy Valentine’s Day. Our waitress was extremely kind, efficient and welcoming. Sorry I didn’t catch her name but she had heart earring and a red bow in her hair. She was fab. Also big hats off to the chefs who served us hot and fresh pizza, different to other pizza expresses especially as they really listened to our fussy eaters request of not crispy etc. the only (very) small thing to note was that it although it created a nice atmosphere hearing the chefs music it would be maybe be better to have just one song on rather then their music and the restaurant as at times it was a bit much listening to two songs at once. Enjoyed their music more then the restrauant so please don’t see it as criticism 😂 thanks so much

Nice friendly service with reliably tasty food. The dessert menu is worth a visit to Pizza Express alone.

We waited over an hour for a portion of dough balls to arrive to our table, and then had to wait again for our pizzas to arrive. When our pizzas did arrive we found a hair on one of them. Our server did take the pizza and got us a new one which was better. We also asked for chilli oil and did not get it, as well as a salad which we did not receive. We complained to the manager at the end of the meal, who was very rude and unhelpful. Overall the experience was very negative.

My daughter went to celebrate a special birthday with her 4 friends. They waited 1 hour 10 min for dough balls. No apology was given. When the pizzas arrived, one of them had a hair on it. It was returned to the kitchen and another was made. No apology. A side was ordered but never arrived. When one person went to speak to the manager, she said that they stated that there would be a 45 min wait on food (they did not), and it was much longer than 45 min. The manager also said that they couldn’t find a hair (who waits over 1 hr 20 min) states there’s a hair when there is not)??? This is extremely disappointing and terrible customer service. We will not be returning to this branch of Pizza Express. Pizza Express needs to look at who they employ. To not even apologise and speak to the customer with no respect and treat them like they are lying - disgusting.

What a terrible experience. Upon entering, we were not informed about a long wait, which was approximately 1 hour for the first course. Throughout the service, the chilli oil and salad we ordered were forgotten. When the pizza arrived, we found a thick black hair partially under the cooked cheese on one of the pizzas, seen clearly by 5 of us. However, when we spoke to the manager about this, she was incredibly rude, insisting that we were informed about a 45 minute wait and that they couldn’t find the hair. If only I had taken a picture, but when we went to complain and show the waiter initially, he did not look at where we were pointing and took the pizza immediately. We assumed that due to this terrible experience, we would not have to pay for the hairy pizza and may also have a discount for our negative time. But, due to the argumentative manager who did not give us the time of day and avoidant waiters, we did not receive any hospitality or understanding. I am horrified by this to be honest, as I have never known staff to argue with customers that their mistake never happened, especially with something as significantly unhygienic as a hair. We will not be returning.

My son has coeliac disease so eating out is tough and finding somewhere that does gluten free pizza is extra hard. Fortunately Pizza Express is able to accommodate and its great we can eat out as a family and my son doesn't feel left out. On arrival we explained the gluten free requirements and they reassured us of their procedures to minimise cross contamination. My sons food was brought out in advance to again minimise contamination from handling. My son was very happy with his doughballs and pizza and he can be fussy. We all enjoyed our meals, service was quick and good and we enjoyed a nice family meal out. Pizza Express will be a regular for our family.

Very nice and helpful staff Restaurant had few customers although other local venues were only accepting those with bookings My daughter had a.pizza whilst I chose melanzane, a dish I have eaten many times before It was served very hot but when ready to eat had a very strange flavour and I could not eat it Staff very quickly accepted my view and returned the dish to the kitchen and offered an alternative. Staff were very apologetic and explained it was a new recipe which in my view should be reviewed as it is horrible

We came to Chichester for a birthday weekend and to take the bus to the sandy beach of West Wittering. We were spoilt for choice for places to eat here but decided on Pizza Express because its consistently tasty. This branch did not disappoint! We received a lovely warm welcome, it smelt so good, had nice lighting and the food was delicious. I am normally so happy that I can still order the retro Four Seasons pizza but this time spotted a king prawn pizza. Oh my!! On a thin large romano base this was utterly heavenly! The dough balls were piping hot, the bottle of montepulciano was delicious and a perfect temperature as usual. We turned into animals and made utter pigs of ourselves by ordering desert-chocolate fudge cake and Billionaire's pudding, all so yummy. Our evening however was made perfect by the delightful and charming waitresses Elaine and Kerry, these young ladies were so attentive and lovely. A huge thanks to them for making our evening so very special.

Spot on as usual. Came here for a friend’s celebration, food was perfect and the waitress with black hair and glasses was a credit to pizza express with her service.

Not sure what was going on tonight as the place was probably a quarter full tops yet the service was appallingly slow and unprofessional. We arrived and were told food would be 40 minutes. We were placed at a table and then not served any drinks for about 15 minutes despite being the only people waiting. We witnessed several other groups being turned away as if the restaurant was totally full. It was as if they didn't have a chef at all and the wait staff were doing the cooking. There seemed to be enough staff for the number of covers they just didn't know how to serve people properly. It just feels like the staff genuinely don't care if you give them custom or not which I am sure is the case.

Appalling service. Came on a Sunday. We were not given menus for children when we sat at our table nor crayons, waited a while until one and seems like only waitress came over to take the order which we couldn’t make as we didn’t have menus. We had 2 full sets of cutlery, and one additional knife between 4 of us. No water was brought to our table. My Rose was warm. When eventually we got our starters the mains arrived without side salads. We asked twice for a salad, the manager said he will take it off the bill but it was not taken off the bill when it was time to pay. Poorly managed place. Shame. Won’t be coming back.

The floor looked as though it has never been swept or mopped despite the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived, crumbs all over the seating, the whole place looked as though it needs a serious deep clean - doubt it’s ever had one.

I went with my daughter on 21st Aug. If I had visited the toilets and looked around this very dirty premises I would not have eaten any food there. The quality of the food was also poor... disappointed

My family and I, went to Chichester for the day. And we stopped off at PizzaExpress for lunch. PizzaExpress offer a wide variety of food, options, ranging from starters to main courses, to deserts. The staff are always very friendly and the food is exquisite.. You will always leave here with a full stomach. This PizzaExpress is just down the road from the cathedral. Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely evening at the chichester pizza express. Our waiter, Sean, attended to us as soon as we walked though the door on a moderately busy Friday evening. He kept up with our requests for food and drinks, he was very good. The food cooked by chef Dean came out promptly and was delecious. A great choices of mains for vegans.

We, myself, my son and a friend arrived at 6pm, by 7pm I was asking where are mains were, we had another hours wait for desserts & coffee. They were far more interested in their takeaway business, they couldn't have cared less about us the patrons eating in. When paying we were asked if we'd like to add a tip, I declined, saying the service was shocking

Ordered drinks and they never arrived dough balls came quickly but had to wait 50 mins for 2 kids pizzas to come. Not very good service at all today.

Visited lunchtime mid week. As ever reliably good food at Pizza express. Very quiet at this time ( approx 12;30.) Fast and efficient service, very friendly helpful waiting staff. Pizzas were good and desserts suitably sweet and delicious. Used Tesco vouchers so cheap meal this time.

The food was great but unfortunately the service wasn’t. I couldn’t see any staff as we walked in so we waited at the desk to be greeted but no one arrived so we seated ourselves. We weren’t sure if it was open but a table of what I assume was off duty staff members assured us that it was open. As we sat down a staff member appeared and walked past us and headed straight for the family that had just walked in and seated them and took their drinks order whilst we sat for a few minutes and waited to be acknowledged which only happened after one of us had asked for menus. Once they’d realised we were there (despite sitting in the middle of the empty restaurant in clear sight) the service was ok and we managed to order some drinks. We were charged for two large beers when we only ordered one which we’d only noticed once we’d paid and left. All very disappointing.

We have too many pizza restaurants in Chichester, and we have tried them all,. but we continue to eat at this, the original quality pizza restaurant. The reason being that the service, food and ambience is always at another level. Connor is in need of particular mention.. excellent advice on food, a happy and jovial demeanor, really felt compelled to leave a personal review for him. Awesome!

Got a table as a walk in and from the first welcome Connor was so pleasant. He waited our table the whole evening and provided us with an outstanding service. It was such a delight on a nice evening out to be met with such a wonderful presence. Highly recommend this branch.

The staff were very attentive but the food was quite bland although well presented.

Great staff, my wife has quite restrictive dietary requirements and Sean was very accommodating and friendly. Sometimes waiting staff at other restaurants make her feel like her dietary needs are an inconvenience but this team at Pizza Express were great.

The pizzas came very quickly and tasted delicious. I definitely recommend this spot for a bite to eat in Chichester!

Was drawn in by the 50% of starter deal. Never used pizza express before, and definitely won't be again. Burnt calamari chicken wings gross wouldn't recommend

Birthday celebration with just the 3 of us, not a particularly busy night, ordered 2 beers and 1 non alcoholic beer, 3 alcoholic beers turned up. Then ordered starters and pizzas, waited over an hour before the pizza turned up, they had forgotten all about...

After 50 minutes of arriving at this restaurant we had to ask the manager where our starters where. Upon investigating, the waiter could not find our order. He apologised and retook our order. The manager did not apologise. They heavily discounted our bill. The manager came over to take payment BUT still did not apologise. Very disappointed with the manager for not apologising

Walked in, first thing I saw was peeling wallpaper, dark and drab and it looked like there had been an all night rave there. The floor was covered in food, paper, all sorts. The tables were left uncleared with empty used dishes and glasses. The...

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for making our experience at the Chichester pizza express. We decided to drive from Arundel after a horrible time, at anther restaurant upon the arrival and decided not to use them. When we told the staff at the Chichester pizza express what had happened to us, they went above and beyond to give us the best meal ever. Food was hot, and very tasty. Clean and service was top class. Thank you once again .

What an absolute joke of a place. Tried numerous times to walk-in for a table but cannot accommodate even though not busy. Today I felt I had to make a comment. Not even 9pm and less than half full but the manger could not allow walk-in. No wonder the chain is in financial trouble!!!

I received truly fantastic service, on top of a delicious meal. If you go to Pizza Express in Chichester be sure to ask for the Dessert King.

Not great service, hardly anyone in here but turning people away. Waited 40 minutes for food and it was wrong and also to be told that they didn't have something for one of the meals half hour after we ordered (so we would have to wait even longer) so my husband went without. It’s a typical chain restaurant with their quick and attentive service but lacking atmosphere. Very child friendly and good for large groups but is always loud and busy. Food is decent and hot but pizzas always come with a bit of grease and oil on top. Great for birthday parties or gatherings but not for pizza lovers!

We didn't get as far as ordering food! Very poor customer service. We were completely ignored when we entered the restaurant, and it wasn't exactly busy! After 10 minutes of waiting fir a member of staff to visit our table, we eventually walked out. At this point, we were finally approached. I explained my reason for leaving. The member of staff explained that a new staff member was being trained & I suggested that Customer Service should surely form part of that training. First time dining in Chichester branch. It was quiet when we came in as it was before dinner time. Good thing as food came out quick and hot. Our server attended to us right away and laid out all the condiments we asked for. BBQ burnt ends under ROMANA. Thin crust pizza, tomatoes, dots of bbq meat and cheese.
