Pleasant watering hole but very frayed on the edges. Looks like they could do with an injection of cash pronto. However it was great to attend a literary festival there free of charge. I guess that's why they can't upgrade...no money coming in.

Went to an all-day punk & reggae event here... Frankly, the bar staff nor the Jamaican food staff were up to the task & it was only moderately busy. Long queues at the bar for the hours we were there & food orders took way too long. BUT... the music was decent!!

Am not a member but non-members can get entry for events. We went for a jongleurs comedy night. The comedy night was so good. Will come again. This is a real cozy place, within its own walled , small, grounds. Building probably late 1700s. Bar staff was efficient and attentive. I'd become a member if I lived here. Parking is so limited in this area so as to be, in effect, non-existent, as is the case with all the pedestrianised, heavily parking controlled town centres, but you are only a 4 minute walk from a paid parking lot, and more or less the same from some outlying residential streets where resident permits do not apply after 6pm, weekdays.

I've given a thre star review to be neutral as the club looks nice, but unfortunately I was not allowed in, despite it saying ACC affiliated on the sign. My wife and I were visiting Hertford and this looks like an oasis on a summers afternoon, however I requested entry under ACC but the bar stewardess said it was not affiliated. There ensued an internal discussion between the steward and someone in the room but to save any embarrassment for all, I said I would leave. It would be nice to have a definite decision in case we come back, thanks.

Had a lovely music event, buzzing with folks. However, come 7pm it was getting cold, after purchasing numerous drinks. I was cold and waited at the bar for some time. I asked for a coffee (machine and pods at the bar ready ). Then told no I can't have a coffee. (Not no sorry we are not serving, just NO) consequently I was told I could have whiskey or brandy! However, I wouldn't mix my drinks. So now, I'll just have to leave as its so cold. Had I been served a coffee I could have stayed longer along with my group of people, who also left. Seems to me they do not cater for drivers either. Great pity after having an event laid on. Management need to address this. Not acceptable

A pleasant enough venue in great location, it could be a nice peaceful refuge in town centre. That all depends on what you drink. The worst aspect of this place, by far, is the beer. If you drink ale then go elsewhere. I tried all of the ales they had, they were all sour. Not undrinkable but not enjoyable. If they kept their beer and lines better then I would drop in there on a regular basis. As it stands, I wouldn't go there unless they have got a good band on.

Originally built in the 15th century. It was extended in the 17th century and re-fronted in the 18th century. It was occupied by Sir Henry Chauncey (1632-1719), Recorder of Hertford and notable historian. He is said to haunt the first floor. Creaking floorboards and footsteps have been attributed to 'old Henry'. Lombard House is now home to the Hertford Club, a private members club.

We watched the rugby on Saturday night. There were two big screens. Everyone had a good view. Lots of good beer. Booked a table for 12 for my wife’s birthday and we were made so welcome by the staff. Late start due to torrential rain and roadworks in Hertford but staff just took it in their stride. The menu is basic but varied with a children’s section, and there was the chalk board with specials. Nobody wanted a starter so we each ordered different main courses and had drinks and family conversation took up the short time till the food arrived. All served on lovely hot plates and plenty of sauce and gravy options. The special pies, venison, chicken or beef were delicious as were the sausages and burgers that the children had. Ice cream was a popular sweet which was followed by a special birthday cake. All in all a great night made superb particularly by the excellent service of our waitress and bar staff.

The Hertford Club held a small Beer Festival in September which was open to non-members. This provided a glimpse of what is behind the walls surrounding the club. It has a pleasant garden at the front and side (this overlooks the river). The garden is small but nicely filled with flower borders and plentiful seating. We enjoyed sever drinks at very reasonable prices. Food wasn’t served at the time we visited which was a shame as the menu looked very varied and was certainly interesting. There were some members in the small bar and they went out of their way to answer our questions about membership and in general. We definitely left in positive mode, the atmosphere is lovely. We’re definitely tempted to join.

If you are bored of all the trendy chain bars in Hertford and fancy somewhere that is traditional, welcoming and extremely good value right in the heart of the town, this is the place for you. I am not a member but was made to feel at home when I took the family there for a meal - steak and venison were both fantastic. I went back with a friend in the evening a couple of weeks later for a couple of beers and the atmosphere was great. Also hidden away upstairs is the best snooker table and dartboard in Hertford. Well worth a visit.

Having been a member here for around two years, I have seen a massive change in this institution. Congratulations to Nic, Chris, the committee and certain other members who have put the time & effort into turning this place around. The atmosphere is really friendly and welcoming and filled with an eclectic mix of people. The food selection is in line with an expected Pub menu, however rather than being from a packet, it is fresh and where possible, locally sourced. I especially enjoy the steak evenings, where one gets to try a different breed of beef every couple of weeks. Many members are potentially more discerning than the average drinking establishment punter which has led to a great selection of beers, wines and whiskeys.I have attended a couple of ‘tasting evenings’ which I have really enjoyed. They have been informal, fun and informative.Terry and the other bar staff are always very happy and friendly, adding to the positive environment. They also pour a very nice Guinness which is always a positive! The club has a reputation for being an old, snooty Torrie club and nothing could be further from the truth. You have members, old and young from all walks of life, enjoying everything that the club has to offer. Certain elements of the building/furniture are a bit tired and require some modernising, however these are all on the list of things to do in 2016/2017, including a riverside terrace. The garden is unique within the Hertford area, all other local pubs/bars/restaurants are far less ‘organic’ and it is a really lovely way to spend a summers afternoon.I’m really happy with the direction that the club has taken and would implore anyone who is thinking of joining to come down and meet everyone.

What a great place smack in the centre of Hertford. Allegedly a members club but all are welcome. A really friendly and homely welcome in an old fashioned charming English house. Slightly tired but currently going through a continuous uplift led by the effervescent Nick the manager. Nice garden area for the summer.Good food at very competitive prices and huge portions. Menu is basic but extensive and there are many 'specials' nights. Not fine dining but what's not to like about a consistently good quality, very friendly, comfortable 'local'. Only downside, no dogs allowed hence we don't use it as much as we would like.

We went for Sunday Lunch. The eating area is adjacent to the bar and there was a friendly atmosphere already apparent in the establishment. The barman was most welcoming and he turned out to be our waiter as well.We were directed to a table of our choice, but not given a menu. There was no menu to be seen. Instead the barman came to our table and told us what starters and main course were on offer. We selected soup and mackerel pate. The food arrived in good time and the soup was hot. It was tinned and accompanied by two thick slices of white cut bread. The mackerel pate was acceptable nothing special. There was salad, toast and spread on the same plate. We ordered roast pork for our main course. Again it arrived quickly and was hot. The meat was in the centre of the plate with a Yorkshire pudding plonked on top of it. Very hot baked potatoes aong with a variety of vegetables were scattered around the plate, not separately served. It was a nutritious meal, but nothing special. A sort of up-market school dinner, but enjoyable just the same. Total cost including a glass of wine came to £40,00 including a tip.

Poor. Used to be a lovely Pub to have a Roast Dinner in, especially on the Sundays the Classic Cars turned up! Today's Roast Beef was frankly nothing of the sort, tough, stringy and tasteless - I suspect it wasn't the days Roast at all, but some pre-packaged 'Roast Beef' slices. Apart from that, it's a nice, friendly, local Pub.
