Found this lovely place on the way back to the hotel. I'm really glad we did. It was great.

I like this pub, good food and drinks, friendly atmosphere, but why are the tables so sticky? Sort it out, please!

Enjoyed a quiet pint here on a Friday afternoon. Has a laid back vibe which was nice and the beer was excellent if not exactly the cheapest. Staff friendly and efficient. Would make another visit in the future.

Sunday roast was aaaaaamazing!! Staff were super friendly and happy. The tables were VERY sticky and we could tell that it was just the texture of all the tables 😅

Burgers were good fish and chips not so good. Fish good do with a bit more cooking also the batter coating left a lot to be desired. Seating was not very comfortable and banquet seating was in need of recovering as the top layer was separating from the base. The table surface was sticky which were told was down to the varnish not drying properly, all in all a bit off putting and disappointing. Can't really recommend this venue.

Always like meeting an old friend here for a catch up.

We used to love The Hermitage pub. Last night was very disappointing. My husband ordered steak pie, which arrived promptly, there was a large bone in the centre of the pie, the size of my watch. My husband mentioned it to the bar staff, they seemed to think it was ok to find it there. I ordered a g/f curry which arrived with a poppadom. Not sure if this was gluten free I asked the waiter. He wasn't sure so asked me if all my meal had to be gluten free.?? He then checked with the kitchen. Meal was ok but nothing to recommend to anyone. The only 1 beer pump (landlord) was off . After successfully changing the pump, my husband ordered a beer. Beer was very cloudy and flat .after several attempts to get a pint of landlord edible enough to drink, we left . Can't say we would hurry back. So sorry.

Great Pub, great whiskys and excellent attention...

Popped in for a quick drink after the football, ended up staying all evening because the service and atmosphere were just what we were looking for. Busy but not crowded, quiet enough to chat with low background noise. Just right.

The service was amazing. We had some difficult dietary requirements, and they were super accommodating, and went above and beyond what we even asked for.

Great bar, with good food and drinks. Very nice looking place with friendly staff and good atmosphere.

The present owner has done a superb job with the Hermitage. First came in here over 30 years ago and it was a very different place. Wouldn't have taken my kids into that version of the pub. Certainly do now. Very friendly with well kept beer and lovely burgers.

Lovely modern pub a little away from the centre and therefor a little diamond. The staff is very pleasant, the pub itsself is very inviting and I wish I were a local here. One star less because I wasn't so happy about my food, never the less I'll come back anytime!

My husband and I received a voucher for Christmas which in fairness should not have been used on a Saturday and did not realise until we arrived. That’s the positive as we were able to use it. The table was sticky and service seemed to be disjointed. We both had scallops as starters. The tiniest scallops I’ve ever had. My husband had a poor burger, which looked as though it was frozen and I asked for rump steak cooked medium with bernaise sauce. The steak was well done, to point it was inedible and was left. The sauce was freezing and the mushrooms were like cardboard. Disgusting! I did point all this out to our server who insulted us by knocking off the £2 supplement charge arguing the steak was medium as there was a wee bit of pink. I can assure you it was not, it was dry and disgusting. To add to insult, we were charged for a drink that was included with the voucher. It has been refunded but have to wait 3-5 days to arrive in our bank account. This used to be a great pub but clearly has gone downhill. There was no atmosphere or ambience and that’s probably why it was empty.

I am frequent customer on this shop. Totally disappointed and impolite service of those fat bar tender and purple hair lady. I do not recommend you all to visit this restaurant and not respect on to oversea people and non white .

Had lunch with a friend on 22 February 2024. Very nice food, very good service, and nice selection of cask ales. Very enjoyable and would definitely go back.

It’s a decent pub with pretty good food, although on the expensive side. Wish they didn’t show 27/4 news on their screens, it ruins the atmosphere

Good service, great food and decent prices. Wide range of beers as well. All good- and would visit again if in the area.

Friendly service. Staff are fantastic and take great care with their customers. Unfortunately the food was not great and the meat tastes really like cheap cuts are used, too much salt is used on the pies and the chips. I would defo return for a drink but sadly wouldn't dine here again.

Very nice neighborhood pub. Decent selection of beer & spirits. Didn't try the food so can't comment on that. Spent a time chatting to the manager who was really nice & accommodating. It'll be my first port of call if in the area again.

Came here on a fluke. Staff were lovely and knowledgeable. I had the smash burger which exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Great food, great environment, great staff, highly recommend

After walking 4 of Edinburgh's 7 hills, I needed a break and sustenance. The Hermitage Bar was in the right place at the right time and absolutely delivered. Great small plates selection and beers, including my new favourite Belgian beer Heverlee (works as a shandy!). Big, open, characterful bar space, friendly staff, delicious mushrooms on toast with proper chips

Thought £4 for about 8 frozen "chunky chips" was a bit steep. Wouldn't be buying again.

Lovely staff, disappointing food and not good for gluten free, ngci on menu but limited and definitely cross contamination so ok for preference but not allergens. Looks like a nice pub though Follow up,! I had an excellent response from manager after my negative experience so hope others try it and have a better experience and let us know 😊

Very enjoyable food. Quiet enough to enjoy your conversations not so quiet that you feel everyone can hear you. Very accommodating when we said we were in a rush!

Feather blade steak was great also the chocolate torte. Katsu chicken was also very good.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. Friendly service, light and airy space and delicious food. The feathered beef tasted homemade and the fish and chips was crispy and tasty. Big selection of beers on tap and a full bar as well. Thanks for a great dinner!

Loved the food as much as the people here. Everyone was warm and welcoming, made us feel really at home. The feathred beef was absolutely delicious and the cheesecake made me even happier! Overall, very authentic vibe, beautiful food, great vibes I definitely recommend this place!

AMAZING FOOD. Highly recommend their truffle and bacon burger and feathered beef. Their desserts are to die for, so delicious. The vibe in this pub is really welcoming, safe and relaxing. Not to mention their music playlist is on point. Definitely coming back

We went with my colleagues to celebrate the end of my MBA. Great cocktails, the food smelled good too!

The staff were all incredibly lovely and attent. We had the nachos which were about £12 and was quite disappointed. For a simple dish at such a price, there wasn't a lot of cheese, guacamole, or salsa, there was however a tonne of sour cream which took up the majority of the dish. The nachos were also cold on arrival. Overall, the place and staff are fab but man, those nachos were a stab to my nacho-loving heart

I think I got unlucky the night I went here. Service was really slow and the used plates and glasses were all piled up at the bar, everything looking dirty and messy. The food was bad... We ordered nachos and I couldn't eat them so bad they were. And it's not a cheap place so the bill made me even more unhappy. They were probably understaffed that evening, because the place looks great and it was busy so it makes you think it's good, but I wouldn't go back and I can't recommend.

This place has very friendly staff and they ask if you want to keep the tab open which is rare in Edinburgh. This is a good sign of trust towards their costumers. Traditional Scottish food is served here which is likely that you can find at Scottish bar and restaurant. Fair prices and portion. Their local gin cocktail is what cought my eye thought I didn't try it because I'm not a fan of gins. Overall had a chill time here after a short hike at blackford hill. Will come here again to try their food varieties and gin cocktails.

My local pub, offers a great selection of beers and spirits, great atmosphere every time. Open on Easter break too

Staff are not well looked after here. Customers without a booking are given attitude (girl with blue hair). Bookings are required, but the staff don't bother placing Reserved signs on the tables, nor do they have a sign asking customers to wait to be seated so you're supposed to guess. Another member of staff looked poorly but did their best. Hope they feel better soon. Seems like this place has a history of bad service.

Great cosy pub in the heart of Morningside, food and drinks were great. Great selection of beers and spirits including scottish whiskies and gin, I would highly recommend if you are in the morningside area.

Food is above average most of the time. Service is good and place is always lively. Main thing for me is it is child friendly and my daughter loves it and is well treated by all the staff.

Busy and friendly local bar. Beers are well kept. Food is OK. Updated. As a previous regular and with it being our closest local bar, I've persevered with the Hermitage but it's not like it was. Food is below average. Pub grub at best. It is not a gastropub. Beers are OK. Bar is poorly kept and tables not cleared. On a visit within the last fortnight, we placed an order at the bar but the staff were interrupted by a frustrated customer repeating the need for glasses to be cleared and the floor tidied up. The server never came back to us. We left. Stale, fried cooking smells are strong in the bar. The bar is full of empty glasses and sticky. Needs a new manager or the owner to take control.

Had the famous Sunday Roast! Sirloin roast with all the trimmings and it was fantastic. Roast potatoes were delicious as well.

It was nice. Drinks ranged from fine to really good. Dried orange slice is a very interesting and unusual garnish, and they made good use of it.
