Great little place to go for comfort food. Waiter/waitress, lots of fun.

Came here for the vegetarian haggis. A few hours later my partner and I both got horrible stomach sickness, including diarrhea and body chills that knocked us out for 12 hours. Not sure what was in the food (it tasted and looked good), but I’ve noticed other reviews also mention food poisoning from this location. Hopefully the owner doesn’t flag my review and get it deleted like they have been doing to other poor reviews!

Everything is very delicious! Very good quality-price ratio. Very delicious typical homemade food. Central location. Without a doubt a very good option to eat in Edinburgh. Very friendly waiters!!

The food was great. Three main courses and two desserts were served fresh, warm and delicious by the extremely friendly staff. The atmosphere is really like mom's home. I was completely satisfied with our visit and will definitely come back.

The food was excellent, the service was quick and cheerful. The atmosphere was cozy, you felt like you were at home. We had Haggis as a starter, Shepherd's Pie, Mum's Sausage Casserole and the VGN Burger as our main course. For dessert, Treacle Pie and Treacle & Date Pudding. Everything was very fresh and tasty, especially the Seitan burger was great. We will definitely eat here again, all in all a great dinner.

Who thinks that Burger without a sauce is a good idea? I’ve ordered a Burger for 14£ and got a medium sized burger with fries and a small portion of Coleslaw. I’ve looked closer at the burger and saw that there wasn’t even a drop of sauce on it. There was a patty (which was cut in two halves) a piece of lettuce a slice of tomato and some cucumber. I’ve tasted it and the juiciest part on it was the tomato. We’ve asked if it’s normal that there isn’t any sauce on it and he agreed on it and said that’s normal. We’ve got ketchup and mayonnaise after we asked for it. I’m surprised that we didn’t had to pay for that. I definitely do not recommend this place! The only nice part was that we’ve got tap water on the house. We were 3 people

Our 2nd visit to MUMS. Great booth table, so we could see all the food coming out of the kitchen. Chose the haggis main course, absolutely delicious, would be difficult to pick something else on our next visit. Great ratio of haggis, swede and mash! Lovely service, such friendly staff. Might even go back tonight. The only negative we didn't have room for pudding. Thank you for a lovely meal experience.

We ate here with our children and it was great! The prices are absolutely reasonable, the portions are generous and everyone will find something. The service was consistently very friendly and we felt welcome throughout.

Very easy to find, near the National Museum of Scotalnd, friendly service, nice flavours, cozy space, simple decoration, but the marmalade brioche bread with custard was just phenomenal!

Went here couple nights ago, really enjoyed the vegan shepherds pie! Skip the burger, but get that shepherds pie whether you’re vegan or not.

Popped into Mumms on Friday afternoon after visiting the National Museum, advised of a 10 min wait and popped over to the pub opposite to have a drink out the rain. I have eaten here numerous times in the early 2000s and moved to England in 2007. Always my go to place for a decent and value meal in Edinburgh. The owner and staff are friendly but both do not take themselves too seriously, and do not put up with pretentious from other either. Had a lovely chat with the owner about the old days. Portions are generous, and tbh if you are not having bangers, pies or haggis then why bother, but I am sure the rest of fine. Desserts are amazing and yes, just like my mum hoped she could make. Just for reference, had lunch here, also ate at The Kitchin this week, and did not get fruit salads at the Kitchin, just saying.

The food here wasn't necessarily to die for but it's exactly what you expect to get from your mum when you go for a visit. The staff are friendly, they were constantly refilling our water, they work incredibly hard a d it appears as though they like their job which is always a plus. The reason the food does not get full stars from us is because the mac and cheese was far too overdone and the chips were cold. Overall, a great cosy place to go to that is reasonably priced for the amount of food you get!

I absolutely loved it. For any Londoners who remember the Stockpot, you'll get it when I say this is that reincarnated - affordable yet quality, central yet familiar and friendly. Like stepping in to a friend's nan's own caff, and you get extra big portions and everyone is nice to you. I even got tips on jeans for normal bodyshapes.

The main server we had had a good sense of humour and brought a personal experience, even offering suggestions of places to go for an authentic Edinburgh experience. Recommend to anyone

We went to this place on a Wednesday in February, early lunchtime, so we didn't have to queue. The food was lovely - unpretentious, ample and hearty. The service was really friendly and nice - we had a chat about Tolkein with one of the guys and where else would you get that? Five stars. PS The tea was good too, and you can't say that everywhere.

All very good. Excellent value for money. I left full and happy. I got a classic burger (it already comes with potatoes and side sauces). If there is an opportunity we will return. When we paid they even left us some sweets. Well done :)

Just had lunch at this establishment. The food is quite tasty. The waitress is unbalanced. First of all, this is the field of service and customers must be taken seriously. She did not use her hands correctly right in front of us, poor hygiene and HACCP

Coffee was nothing short of delicious. Service was excellent, serious banter was produced. Food was also very nice. Would recommend.

I love this restaurant, I eat here at least once every time I visit, even though I have to ignore the funny name :D The staff is friendly, the IPA beer is my favorite and the hearty dishes are always delicious.

I went for a late lunch after visiting the Edinburgh Castle and I had Haggis as starter and I must say the portions are generous and the quality is undiscussed. The waiter was nice and took good care of my needs. I will definitely come back! Thank you

Very cozy restaurant with home-cooked food. We had a Shepherd’s Pie and a Fish Pie and they were both delicious. The Fish Pie had 2 types of fish: salmon and a white fish covered in a delicious sauce and topped with mashed potatoes and melted cheese. Fast service with friendly and attentive staff. Fair price. I recommend it!

What a hidden gem! The food here is exceptional, and the vibe is truly vibrant. We arrived around 6:30 and were seated right away, but by 7:00, there was already a line outside – a clear sign of how great this place is. I had the chicken and ham pie with creamy mashed potatoes, while my wife tried the beef Wellington pie with crispy chips. Both were absolutely delicious! The staff were also incredibly warm and attentive. If you're ever in Edinburgh, don't miss out on this spot! Highly recommend!

A lovely spot with delicious food! I went for the breakfast menu which is available until 11:45. It was 10am on a Friday so pretty quiet, the eggs Benedict which I got was delicious and the staff were polite. Also quite affordable. I’d recommend!

If you come to Edinburgh, them you simply must visit this place! Upon entering it feels like you came back in time. I say this with all the positive meaning. The atmosphere is simply wonderfully relaxing. A moment in this restaurant is simply a best medicine for a weary mind. As a person with food allergies, I usually have a hard time picking something from the menu but the kind staff prepared something that was both safe for me to eat and absolutely delicious. I can’t even express how much I appreciate this. After the long day of walking over the rough terrain of Edinburgh, a meal at this place is simply the best reward you can give yourself. The menu is filled with traditional British and Scottish dishes, including fish & chips and shepherds pie. And I seriously recommend saving a spot for one of their very delicious desserts. I also must bring up their very own craft beer which I found very enjoyable and complimenting the food. If you by any chance you happen to visit around Christmas time then do not miss an opportunity to try their marvellous mulled gin. To summarise, food drinks and especially people who work there: solid 10/10 🥂

Go early cause it's gonna be PACKED but with good reason. The food is absolutely delicious, the vibe super nice, and personally the guy who served me was super super cool even though i was clearly being an obnoxious tourist not being able to pronounce IRN-BRU. He was incredibly nice suggesting me things from the menu and letting order extra things to go, cause he was right, it was too much food to eat there on one sitting. I'm definitely coming back!

Recommended by 2 different city guides, so we went there and absolutely not disappointed! It's not a typical Scottish pub in terms of decor but the atmosphere is very nice, waiters are excellent and available to recommend typical whiskeys, meals are very good and generous. Affordable prices too. We highly recommend!

Found this place when looking for a nice stick-to-your-ribs dinner on a cold and windy night in Edinburgh. Did NOT disappoint! Wife had the sausage & mash and I had the shepherd's pie. Both were outstanding (but I think my pie was better). They also have a small selection of various whiskies from around Scotland for you to sample with your meal at a relatively affordable price. For dessert, we got the chocolate tart, which was also stellar. The only reason its not 5-stars across the board was that service was a little on the 'leave you be' side. That's not a bad thing, but if you're in a hurry or like to be checked up on, then you may have to call the server over.

Absolutely delicious "classic" breakfast, even the brown pudding which looks like very, very good black pudding. The plate of pancakes is fantastic. The servers are adorable. The soundtrack is very 70's. The place is very well placed to start a day visiting the city. I recommend.

The vibe at this place was exactly as the name suggests: comforting and cozy. We had dinner here on our last day in Edinburgh to wrap up our trip in Scotland. The foods felt authentic and homemade. It’s a great spot if you're looking for a true Scottish home-cooked experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable.

I tried the mashed potatoes and lamb shark, cooked in traditional Scottish way! Absolutely delicious. The restaurant had a 30 minute wait time but the food was absolutely worth the wait.

Just visited for the third time while going to see a show at the Playhouse. Once again, I got seated straight away. The order didn't take long. In the previous 2 visits, I had macaroni cheese and hand cut chips, so this time, I had the sausages and mash with gravy, followed by the treacle and date pudding with ice cream. It was delicious, and once again, the staff were friendly and attentive. I will have no hesitation in coming back here on my next visit. It is ideally situated across from Greyfriars Kirkyard (it's a few minutes walk away).

- Don’t trust the reviews that hypes the place- Overpriced! The staff were horrible and rude and the two waitresses who were working this week - relax who said anyone is obsessed with you- we waited awhile until they took our order and and when one did she said “are you going to stare her or can I take your order” we were staring at her so knows we are ready and she can take our order, and both of you looked unprofessional and may I say disrespectful and disgusting. Also not to mention how bad the food was! It was tasteless bland and soggy - the place was dirty as well. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO CLOSE DOWN

I LOVED EVERY MOMENT IN HERE. This was the first place that we ate at in Edinburgh and it will be hard to top. The cosy, home-like atmosphere, the way that the staff interact with each other (hilarious), the tunes and the epic comfort food. I’m grateful we got to experience Mums.

Totally disappointed by their customer service. We ordered the Stacked Pancake and an egg roll for breakfast and they were taking more than half an hour to serve while it wasn't very busy at all. We just politely asked them how long it would take and their response was "It takes time to cook stuff, so we don't know". Really?? Is that how you respond to such a normal question, when we were waiting for more than 30 minutes for the food in a much less busy time? Also during taking the payment, the cashier didn't even look at us, just passed the bill and the POS machine while doing something else. Honestly, we went there seeing all the good reviews and expected the same. Food was okay but the behavior was super rude. We have been doing a month long euro trip, and this was the only restaurant where we faced such an unprofessional rude attitude.

Disappointing Experience I had high hopes for Mum’s Great Comfort Food, given the warm and homey vibe it promises. Unfortunately, the experience fell flat. The service was slow and inattentive. Despite the place being half-empty, and the staff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than attending to customers. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and definitely not comforted. With so many great options around, I doubt I’ll be back.

Great no frills food, great atmosphere and superb music selection playing.

Great little place with a wide range of Scottish foods and whiskeys. I went with the sausage and mash, trying three different sausages and the caramelized leek and bacon mash. They were all great, although I wasn't sure which sausage was which other than the spicy one. Also tried a couple of whiskeys based on my server's recommendations and they were delicious. For the price and service, I would absolutely recommend MUMS!

Food was good and tasty but the restaurant was dirty. Floor, cutlery, my glass had lipstick, the toilets were cold and smelled funny.

Very friendly and nice staff. We ate different varieties of sausages from the one with cheese to the smoked one. All very good. Meat and vegetable-only dishes are also served gluten-free while all the others are not.

Food was really nice with a few unusual choices on the menu. One star is knocked off as our custard while fresh made and tasting nice was a bit LUMPY. A big no in my book. However I would go back and try other options in the future. Thanks
