MUMS Great Comfort Food in Edinburgh, City of

I tried here in July this year but I had to hire an investigation team to find the meat in the shepherd's pie. In my opinion the reviews do not reflect the experience that I had. I took my guests, who were crazy about the try the local cuisine, but this pie let me down...

Good food (tasted different pies). We was asked to wait outside for 5 min, while the restaurant was totally emply.

The MUM’S restaurant is great! The dishes are delicious, plentiful and the prices very reasonable. The servers are super friendly, and the central location is ideal. I recommend for a good, friendly meal!

We ate a wonderful pancake. The employees are incredibly fun and warm. He gifted me chocolates for my birthday. Thank you again brother.🥹😁✋🏻

From out of town and wanted to try a good authentic shepards pie and this is everything i dreamed of!! It was deliciously amazing!!! Also tried some fish n chips and it was also delicious ✨ amazing choice of drinks as well

We ordered three steak and ale pies. The chips and the pastry of the pie was good, however, we all counted and the most bites of meat in a pie was 4. This was rather disappointing. Service was good and atmosphere was what they advertise. Just a bit disappointed in the quality of the food.

Friendly and helpful staff. Dog friendly and lots of GF options. Homely food, great dessert and a fuss over our dog. Happy customers, will definitely go back.

Cozy, it was my safe place for 4 lunches. I really enjoyed their soups, the Haggis in its regular version, as well as its starter version. Shepard pie tasty and the fish pie wonderful

We absolutely LOVED eating lunch at Mum's ! The staff was soooo nice and the food was delicious. We also loved the restaurant in itself, everything felt really authentic. You can even read Beano while you wait for your food ! Too bad we don't live in Edinburgh, otherwise we would have come regularly !

You wait really long, the food is good. There are better places for breakfast. Loud, cold.

Spectacular and traditional Scottish food, very friendly service, even one of the waiters was encouraged and spoke a little Spanish, he recommended an exquisite dessert and the brutal food: haggis + wellington (but with spinach and mushrooms) a delight. In addition, they give you water with your food and they have drinks made by them that are very good. In our case we ordered beer. Thank you so much.

Amazing food at such reasonable prices. Service was a bit chaotic but luckily we got there early to a lovely guy who helped my vegan partner order easily. Massively recommend

Let Guke order more food. If you are bored and have too much leftovers, you will have to arrange the meal. After ordering the food, arrange the dishes and arrange the tableware.

Very cozy hole in the wall type place with great service and delicious food. Really appreciated all the vegan options. I got the starter size of vegan haggis, neeps and tatties and it was a generous portion.

Traveling from the USA. Food was everything I wanted. Turnips and carrots and smoked sausage. Amazing! Brought me right back to being a kid. Our waitress was fiesty and sarcastic. We loved her! Never rude, but she absolutely had us laughing. Extraordinary service and perfectly cooked home meals

Simply one of the BEST places we ate while in Scotland. The Bangers & Mash were GLORIOUS and came in a wonderful assortment of flavors - including vegan. We tried the traditional, the cheese and onion, and the red pepper and they were all mouth-wateringly fantastic. The mushroom garlic mash was my favorite but we all agreed the onion gravy outshined the rest (the traditional brown sauce was meh). It was worth the wait to be seated and the staff was amazing even in the midst of it being crazy busy. Oh, and they also had vegan shepherd's pie! Cannot recommend this place enough.

It is not fancy, but the food and price are so good. You can taste typical dishes for very reasonable prices.

Got a take out...2 sausages and mashed potatoes. Advertised as "comfort food" and that it is! Sausage was very meaty and flavorful. I got 1 MUMS Traditional Herby Pork Sausage, 1 Pork Cheese Chive Sausage and Garlic Mushroom mashed potatoes and smothered it with their classic brown gravy. Sure worth it for 12 pounds! Staff was very friendly. Cozy atmosphere. Will definitely go there again to try something else.

What a great find when we typed in 'places near me' on google. First time eating haggis and it's pretty good. The meals were sensational and massive and the staff some of the nicest I've seen. THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND IT❤️ A must to eat at when in Edinburgh 👌 It's not fine dining but it's good enough for a great atmosphere, great food and great staff 👌

Food was incredible, exactly the warming scran we wanted - I had steak and ale stew with dumplings and leek and bacon mash, my husband had fish and chips. Both great. It was very cold in the restaurant and they had both doors at the back and front open for air - understand it must get hot when you’re serving but all the customers were sitting in their coats shivering. Maybe they need to find a way to get ventilation and keep the customers warm! Service was friendly but felt a bit rushed, we were debating pudding but weren’t given time for our main to go down. Understand that it’s popular though and a queue was probably forming for tables. Would probably come back, but on a warmer day maybe!

The reviews are incomprehensible. Dirty. Glasses dirty. Had a burger without any dressing, fried dry, presented carelessly.

Went there on a rainy morning. The waiter was so kind and welcoming and fun, the food was great and comforting for sure, the playlist was really nice. Had a lovely time, and will come back when I’m visiting Edinburgh again.

We came in on a rainy autumn evening for an early dinner. The server was friendly and informative about the menu, and the food was absolutely delicious. Warm comfort food on a rainy day is always a great idea. I definitely recommend it.

Don't miss this place. Waited 15 minutes in the rain, and it didn't disappoint. The staff is the star here and the food is amazing too. Serving size is huge, and prices are very affordable. Shut it down and bring it to San Diego Boys. We'd love to see you out here!

I went with high expectations, but both the milkshake and the veggie burger were disappointing—I expected much more. Perhaps it was just the choice of dish, but for the price, my expectations were understandably high.

I was here in August, the busy season. Make a reservation! I didn't have one, but I was willing to wait. Their wait time of an hour was accurate. The food was wonderful and affordable, comparatively.

Don't trust the times on Google, they close kitchen early at random times early at 9. Need to place an order or be seated before that. Ended up wasting time driving.

We tried huggies and Shepherds pie for the first time and loved it, as well as the beers we tried. We were so pleased that the next day we repeated it but for breakfast. A real pass!!! And the super nice guys, we will definitely return!!!!

I would not recommend this cafe if you are vegetarian or vegan. The burgers we had were very disappointing and almost uneatable.

Discriminating against Chinese tourists, everyone should not go. They refused to order food for a long time. The waitress even looked askance at people. Are you seriously ill? If you are sick, go to the hospital for treatment and recover soon.

This is a fantastic little place with amazing food and lively atmosphere. We arrived at 6:30 and got a table. By 7:00 there was a line outside and with good reason. I had a chicken and ham pie with mashed potatoes and my wife got the beef Wellington pie with chips. Both were outstanding. The service was also super-friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this when you're in Edinburgh!

It's a small place so when you show up, there might be a wait for a table. It will be worth it, trust me! The sausages and mash were delish. You can pick and choose the favor of the sausages and mash. The chicken burger was amazing too! Friendly staffs. We went there two nights in a row for dinner! Will definitely come back when we visit Edinburgh again.

Food was good and hot. Not amazing, but quite acceptable. The bangers and mash (2 sausages and mash) are the only 'good' thing on the menu. We tried all of the sausages on the menu and all were good. The mustard mash is unique in the best possible way, very yummy. Not a fan of the fish and chips tho. Waitstaff was good considering the understaffing so be patient.

We decided to enjoy dinner on a chilly brisk evening. So worth it. The atmosphere was a vibe with 50s to 80s music such good songs. I decided on the macaroni dish, so worth it. It was nothing crazy but was so good. My Fiancé got a sausage, mash and gravy. His face lit up with how delicious the dish was. Definitely try this place if you are here.

Had the chicken pot pie and an amazing hot chocolate! the chicken pot pie was hot and crispy and seasoned well the hot chocolate was great and obviously presented amazing! the staff were great as well! Kitchen is open late and that’s the reason i went but ended up being one of my favorite spots to eat in edinburgh

I didn't like the food. I ordered scrambled eggs with salmon on a roll. It was served in a pretty way, but unfortunately I didn't like it. Admittedly, the salmon was an experiment for me, but the egg and rolls didn't convince me either.

I visited this place with friends looking for good food at a reasonable price and we found it! The waiter spoke Spanish and was friendly with us all the time. I recommend it!

Feels like an "American diner". Would highly recommend this establishment. Went on a Wednesday night and still had a 20 minute wait to be seated. We'll worth it. The wait staff was extraordinary! Can't say enough good things about this place.

Really great wee place this. Does what it says on the tin. Plain simple fabulous cooking as you'd expect if your mam or gran was cooking comfort food. I've been here a few times and always brings back memories of home cooked dinners. Have the ice cream floats they took me right back to my childhood in the 70-80 on hot summer day's ice cream and bon-accord lemonade 😋 👌 . Keep doing what you're doing it's ace!

Was wandering the area after a recommendation for tacos. After that place was closed an hour earlier than expected, we found this brilliant little cafe. The food was brilliant. One of us had pie and mash with 3 of the different flavoured sausages. A cajun spice buttermilk chicken sandwich which was perfectly spiced. The fish pie was amazing. I would highly recommend this place and very looking forward to my next trip to Edinburgh to try more of the menu.

Went for breakfast and was OK. Had a reasonable vibe to the place with some quirky elements. Service was friendly but not overly attentive. Opted for breakfast buns which were very reasonable price not over filling but good. Surprised they limited the options as there was no mix and match (ad bacon etc). Area I would pull them up on were the grubby toilets which are overdue a deep clean or refit

It is comfort food and that’s what you’ll get. Had the Scottish breakfast which had more taste than English breakfast usually does in my opinion but I’ve never had the Scottish version before this. Was a bit greasy. I usually think English breakfast is extremely bland but this was not. It was enough to share for two people. The woman working was very kind and pleasant

We tried both steak and chicken pie dishes. They were both delicious, but my favorite was the chicken one. This place was very good for us since we missed vegetable food. It can get a little crowded, but you can pass by and sit down without waiting in line.

The 3 sausages are great. Definitely recommend mums sausage. The other dish I had was a bit under my expectation since it was filled with potato underneath.

Very friendly welcome and good food! The vegan burger is spicy (in fact this is often the case in Scotland: vegan = spicy) Served quickly as we already had our tickets for the castle (which have a timetable) and we had quite limited time. Toilets in the basement.

Everyone was so lovely! Recommend the vegan haggis and the irn bru float and then probably a nap. We took our dog Lola in she was incredibly popular and very well looked after by friendly staff. They have such a great menu will definitely be back!
