We visited for Dinner on a Sunday evening while staying near by. This is a charming and cosy country pub with a good menu. My wife is coeliac and there was a range of gluten free options on the menu; she went for a burger, which was served on gluten free bread with fries. I had the gammon which was thick and juicy, and served with lovely homemade chips.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Young girl that served us was fantastic. Management awful, hidden costs when the bill came. Politely asked what these were for and she said because i swapped mash for chips?! I said ok but it might be worth notifying people that a swap was an extra charge when ordering. The woman from the management team then started claiming its notified on the back of the menu which it certainly is not. When i turned to pay i was notified by my 8 year old daughter than the manager decided to give me thr fingers behind my back! What delighful customer service at the Herdwick Inn! Save your time and money.

So impressed with our lovely stay at the Herdwick and excellent meal in their restaurant. The bedroom was comfy and spotlessly clean. Thank you for a lovely stay, I’d highly recommend to others.

Fabulous pies! Great lamb casserole! A village pub that needs its locals and visitors to keep on coming! Use it or lose it! We’ve been coming here year on year when staying in the locality and it’s a great local pub!

What a disappointment after reading reviews I feel like I have been to the wrong pub! Very disappointed lamb casserole was cold dumplings were soggy and certainly no rosemary, gravy was cold, cabbage was cold and uncooked , chicken, leek and ham pie pastry was solid, gammon steak was a joint not a gammon as you would normally get and sandwich was just average, compliments to the chef ………no, must try harder

Found this little gem of a pub by accident. Food was excellent, had Haggis fritters (very tasty) and steak and ale pie. Oh my goodness - never had a pie with so much steak in before! (and very tender).

Excellent, hearty, delicious food. Generous portions and great service. This is a fantastic country inn, all 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect pint of Loweswater Gold too 🍻💚

I can honestly say this place is awful Food cardboard, Manager ignoring us and unhelpful insulting and outright awful to us both!! Smelled rotting wood. Waited a whole hour for food! Never in my life have i said how bad a hotel was until now! I REPEAT! DO NOT GO HERE EVER!!

Fabulous Sunday lunch. Portions were generous and service great apart from collecting empty plates so never got chance to see the pudding menu! Hopefully next time as we will be back :)

Really lovely place. Staff were warm, friendly and professional - all smiles! We ordered the fish bap and chocolate delice. Really yummy and great attention to detail with the presentation. The toilets were spotless too. Really recommend. Will surely be back.
