The Herbert Wells in Woking

We were staying at a hotel just round the corner from the Herbert wells and it looked so inviting so we went there for dinner. It’s the first time we have eaten in a Witherspoons and it was amazing, the venue was just charming, spotlessly clean the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was not only delicious but so affordable, my husband said his pint of beer was one of the best he had for a long time, I serious can’t recommend it highly enough, it was so good the next morning we skipped breakfast at the hotel and went back to the Herbert wells.

The manager of this pub is racist!!! She stated she may be the manager but who knows. Refused to serve me as she said “you are white and we don’t serve white people here”. Avoid at all costs

Very comfortable and roomy. Service amiable and efficient. Good range of breakfast products. Quality of ingredients and cooking OK , excellent value . Coffee good. The best budget breakfast by far in Woking

Descusting service at weatherspoons woking, some members of staff hav a descusting attitude and they know who they are, some staff hav no core basic training, for example unable to greet the customer with a smile, no please thankyou or how are you just misarable face and some with attitude a certain young lady has a very bad attitude, makes accusations and uses racism as a defence because she has no defence regarding her extremely bad service its such a shame because the guy in charge knows how to run the show greets peaple properly and is unfortunatly blind to some of his staffs behavior & as a result peaple get hurt customers are lost and the great weatherspoons name is tarnished aswell as a loss to the company all because of certain members of staff a black stain is left. Sujestion AVOID THIS PUB.

Average food. Not impressed that my vegan breakfast came with a meat sausage. Unsure if it was deliberate or not but the waitress was apologetic and said she’d tell the chefs. Think the chefs need to be more aware when preparing dishes!

Absolutely disgusted today, this weatherspoons is my local which I visit every Tuesday and Thursday and 90% of the time I’m on my own. On a normal Tuesday and Thursday I’ll drink around 6 pints and go home. Today I went in after work and had 2 pints, was sat on my own and minding my own business. I got up to get a 3rd pint and was refused and told I needed to leave, being humiliated infront of other people in the pub. I have bipolar and this affected me massively feeling absolutely humiliated. They had no reason what so ever to tell me to leave, I was on my own sat at a table and had only 2 pints, I have never ever caused any issues when drinking at the Herbert wells but today I was treated like that. I am still in shock and I’m absolutely disgusted they’ve done this to me being as this is my local.

Very happy with our experience here. We had planned to go to O'Neill's but they had run out of steak! This was kind of shocking as it was only 5pm on a Saturday. We all enjoyed our food, it was nice and hot and great value.

I have breakfast here every Friday. The traditional breakfast is really good. The staff are really helpful and friendly and the manager has a good rapport with the customers. I definitely recommend this place.

We had a lovely experience, Steve and Chris were honestly were best two bar attendants we have ever met Superrr friendly, so welcoming and know how to crack a joke. From a spoons definitely the best I have been to, great service, food and drinks come straight away (weekend night a little longer but not bad) but so accommodating and exciting to come on our next night out in Woking spoons!!! Chris and Steve I recommend them more!!!

It's difficult to complain about any 'spoons pub (although I have done a couple of times) because you know what you're getting and 99% of the time that's what you get. I didn't eat here, I rarely eat in a 'spoons, but the beer selection and quality was good and the staff friendly. They removed 1 chap and moved on a couple outside but did so very professionally. Maybe the staff from the Eastbourne 'spoons could visit and see how it should be done. Anyway, all good in this one and if I ever have to stay in Woking again I'll be back in here. Door man kicked me out for no reason because I was having a conversation with my mate and he came up behind me and said I’ve had enough of you get out go home and I believe that he was being racist as I was one I was having a fag outside of the no smoking area and those people have smoking in there no smoking area there was also a food incident where I brought some McDonald’s and ate it outside of the area so it wasn’t on Wetherspoons property and I feel like it was not a fair excuse for them to kick me out I want to form a formal complaint about the Dorman for them kicking me out for no reason do you not go to Wetherspoons in Woking

We chose to eat here for both nights of our Woking stay, as the choice was plentiful and the value for money was superb. Service was also very quick. For our 1st night we had curry & pizza and for 2nd night, steak & mixed grill. No issues with either meal and clean plates on both occasions. Nice choice of Gins too.

Have not visited for some time. Same strengths and weakness as before. Strengths are roomy and comfortable environment, quite good quality food and cooking, and very good value. Weakness is lukewarm food , also average quality coffee. Maybe not enough staff.

A nice Wetherspoons just out of the centre of Woking. Very friendly staff, good reasonable priced menu and extensive range of beers. We'll worth a visit.

Great time had by all on our monthly jaunt to The Herbert Wells. Great food, nice selection of Ales , and a bonus to use our CAMRA tokens. Bar staff very polite as usual, clean toilets. Will be back again next month.

This was the first time I've eaten in this Herbert Wells, which is actually a Wetherspoons pub. We went here with family. Great food (I had the classic cod & chips, accompanied by breaded scampi while my wife enjoyed her classic stuffed potato). Good pints, and cosy typical pub atmosphere, where numerous workmen enjoyed ther meal and a pint.

My first time here in a few years. Beer is unbelievably cheap (i.e., under £2 a pint). I’ve just had the cod and chips, with a pint of Abbot Ale included for about £8.65. It was very well done. One of the best ever. I asked the waiter to let the chef know. I wrote a review of this place a while ago in which I stated the place is full of old men. The manager responded to the effect that I would be one some time in the future. Well, I’m already there. This is a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon.

Decent size inside with booths, high tables and normal tables around. Staff were okay but the last time we went we were given dirty cutlery which we had to go and change, they had run out of ketchup and the "ultimate burger" was pretty dry...

Popped in for lunch. Typical Wetherspoon venue with the twist of celebrating HG Wells as the name implies. The food was pub grub and the service was with a smile.

Just had the Valentines meal for 2, it was great and very good value for money. We often use this Wetherspoons and have always found the staff friendly and welcoming and the pub has a great atmosphere.

Met a few old workmates here for the day. Pub is situated about 3 minutes walk from Woking Station.Pub was clean, staff were friendly, food was adequate, and there were plenty of ales for everyone to try.Obviously a very busy place, but service was quite speedy.

Visited Woking Wetherspoons yesterday (Monday) for an informal business meeting followed by Christmas lunch. Three of us ordered the seasonal turkey lunch from the Christmas menu and can honestly say it was the worst dining experience in memory. We would have complained at the time had it not been that someone else was paying the bill as a treat. Truly this was a glutinous mess of leftovers from the previous day - brick hard microwaved turkey and chipolatas, soggy glutinous carrots and gravy, dry mash and a mountain of peas. Truly disgusting. Will never go back there. Nobody in that kitchen could have served that up without knowing it was a disgrace.

If you're looking for good, basic, English-style food, look no further. Just be careful if you order the "American" breakfast. The pancake "syrup" was a solid rather than a liquid....

Good value for money, I would recommend the pizzas. 6.79 for margherita and g&t, what more could you ask for.

Have always advocated this pub due to relaxed atmosphere and value for money. Tonight we were a group of middle aged men, hardly any threat to anyone. We probably spent £100 in drinks and kept to ourselves.At one point in the evening a bartender came to us and asked us to “keep the noise down” in an already loud pub because he “couldn’t hear other orders”. Apparently the “manager” agreed and felt the need to escalate the situation.by approaching us with the “doorman”. This is both outrageous and laughable in that he felt a group of middle aged men posed a threat to his pub. we were chatting and laughing at stories. Fairly normal in a pub.What I thought was a reasonable pub spoiled by the attitude of one obnoxious individual and a totally inept manager who thinks that by backing himself with a “bouncer” he is justified in his actions together with the fact they have a Wetherspoons name above their door which negates any type of customer service. Avoid at all costs if you wish to have a good time, are a normal middle aged person and don’t wish to be I intimidated by a coward and a bartender with a bad attitude.

We were staying locally at a chain hotel, dinner was offered but at extortionate prices.... as reviewed... so we went here, a 2 min walk. As the bar area was busy we ordered via the Wetherspoon app.... drinks were brought over within a few mins, followed by the food order (mains only) within 15 mins... I had Ham, egg and chips, my Wife had 5 bean chilli, and daughter had kids pizza meal - all were polished off and completed - the serving staff were great all along, even though it was busy. No photos as food was eaten!

Quick service and cheap booze would return in the future. The pancakes were really nice and so were the cocktails.

A group of 5 us visited to have dinner on a Saturday evening. The pub, whilst not completely packed, was very busy, but all the same our meals were served very quickly - we amazed, given how busy it was. The food was very good indeed, and the staff were great - we wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

Have used this establishment since it opened. The service is always good, even when packed. Staff always friendly, and helpful. Nice food, at very resnable prices. Bote my son's love the 'Clock Pub' as they call it. Only ever had a couple of problems, which were promptly resolved. Keep it up. Thanks Gary, and colleague's.

My employer recently gave me £20 of F.W. Woolworths vouchers that were redeemable only at the Chertsey Road store. On arriving to spend them I found that it was now a Wetherspoons pub. Not sure what my employer is playing at because, try as I could, the staff simply refused point blank to accept my Woolworths vouchers.

Had lots of good times at Wetherspoons, a good place to drink and normally a good and friendly atmosphere with amazing prices. The food is really good I love the eggs Benedict with black pudding and I love the pizzas. The only reason I’m scoring it down is due to the manager and her horrible personality. Went and got myself an alcoholic drink once (I provided ID) and then went back to my table where my boyfriend was sitting (his also 18 but that’s irrelevant as he was drinking a coke). Manager then stormed over and snatched my drink of the table accusing me of buying the drink for him and that he was underage which I hadn’t and which he wasn’t. He then showed his ID to make her happy to which she instead of apologising, threatened to ban me and was extremely rude. If you want my honest advice get rid of her she’s ruining the whole experience of what otherwise would be a great place.

The female manager,viera is apauling! So rude! Its like she has no people skills at all. She speaks to you like dirt and I have seen her shout and verbally abuse customer. It is abysmal.

This was our first visit to The Herbert Wells [named after H.G Wells]. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

Got to the bar before 12pm ready to order breakfast. No staff behind the bar. By the time a disinterested member of staff appeared, it was dead on 12pm so he refused to serve me breakfast.

Raw porridge was yuck - was told 'I seem to complain too much!' the manager had changed my orange which was bitter. Basically I like my food to be cooked/not taste bad/not be too tough or raw.. promised I would never eat there again.

We enjoyed our visit in this comfortable and spacious place. Large English breakfast too much for one,Eggs , muffins and mushroom very good . Good ingredients, good service, good value but coffee only average. An improvement would be the use of warm and not cold plates.

A lively Wetherspoons pub that always seems to have a crowd in it at weekends.

Having called to get something to eat on a Saturday afternoon we found it hard to get a table as the bar was very busy , but after a while a table became available, the menu is a weatherspoons and the food is what you get in any weatherspoons , food not bad service was good and would definitely call again.

At a Wetherspoons pub/restaurant you are assured of a good value meal, and breakfast is a good example. Our choice for an eight o'clock Sunday morning breakfast was the Premier Inn at £10, or the Wetherspoons at £5.00. Having had a poor overnight stay at the Premier Inn, the breakfast venue was a 'no brainer' really.

Another nice meal at the Herbert Wells. We ordered through the app and it came incredibly fast. Service was good and we enjoyed our meal. The app allows you to order drinks and food right from your phone easily.

Your average Wetherspoon pub maybe has a particular reputation, this one is a break from the norm. It is a huge pub and has a very diverse crowd from all types of backgrounds and inclinations.

You can argue about this but according to me, I have had the best Buffalo wings at Herbert Wells, the place came highly recommended by my brother on my visit this week and we got there before the last order. The choice of beer on tap is also excellent and typical old school English Pub you just can't go wrong with even the food.

The Herbert Wells is a JD Wetherspoons restaurant and that means that the prices are very reasonablle and a very large selection of food too! There isn't a full table service as such but if a waitress or waiter is passing you can ask them to order you a drink. Normally you order food and drink from the bar.

This large pub is named after HG Wells of War of the Worlds fame, which he wrote while living in Woking. I’ve frequented more ‘Spoons than I can remember and although I didn’t expect it, this is one of the better ones in my opinion as the layout has different areas and seating so doesn’t feel like a soulless warehouse. Ok, so the interior’s looking a bit dated and it can feel dark in places but staff were great and had plenty of “get up and go” about them, tables quickly cleared, service prompt and meals arrived soon after ordering (it was steak day) - there was also a reasonable range of ales to choose from. I had a look round some of the old town and area photos dotted around the walls as it’s always fascinating to see how things were back in the day.

Six of us called in here the other day for breakfast. Excellent choice available and produced very quickly. Food was fresh and very attractively presented. (How refreshing to get a perfectly poached egg on an Eggs Benedict!) Can't fault the prices either and the free coffee refills were very acceptable! Staff were all very helpful, friendly and efficient.

Visited this Spoons twice over a weekend period. Staff were pleasant and offered speedy service. The app service was not available after 8pm which was a bit inconvenient. Probably wouldn't visit here again.

Saturday afternoon 7 July. Sat outside. Very spacious, tidy and clean carpeted inside.. Toilets on the ground floor! Excellent bar service even though it was packed for the England football game. I had the best cooked tasting scampi ever and my daughter said her baked potato with tuna was delicious. I told the Manager to hold on to the Chef. Great choice of drinks (Sipsmiths gin and Tonic) at good prices. A really good Wetherspoons...

My daughter and I visited this Wetherspoons for the very first time for lunch at the weekend. It was - as expected - a bit noisy as the World Cup was on telly and the men were getting involved!

I'm a regular visitor to The Herbert Wells and usually eat here at least once a week, in the past I have praised the food, beer and service on Tripadvisor several times. So last week when I had an overcooked chicken breast which was too tough to cut with my knife I ate the rest of the food and left the chicken. When the waitress came to clear the plates I mentioned about the tough chicken and she said "oh its disapointing when that happens", she listened to what I had to say and then left without a word. I thought perhaps that she would pass on my complaint to the manager, but if she did then he never came to see me. I dont know if I'm more disapointed by the overcooked chicken or the waitress's "laissez-faire" attitude! Very disapointing!

I've been to this location on multiple occasions for both breakfast and lunch. The quality of the food is very good and the portions are filling. The value of the food and drinks I also find to be very reasonable unlike competitors in the local area.

I often cal in here when waiting for a bus at the nearby bus stands. It was once Woking's Woolworth's store. So, you can imagine it's rather big and cavernous, though they have tried to break this up by some discrete partitions.

The Herbert Wells (a Wetherspoons pub) was an ideal place for me to while away an hour in-between appointments in Woking. Their choice of many "nooks" gave me space to spread out some reference material while composing email.

This pub offers a very nice choice of beers. Along with the traditional ones you can find some specials which are worth to try. The hall is very nice and there is a lot of space which makes the stay comfortable.

I had to visit nearby (taking someone to dentist) over several weeks so when it came to needing a place to sit work and enjoy refreshments I came across THW - this is not a very nice place some describe this venue as “cheap n cheerful” this it certainly is ....and more I can’t find much recommend this establishment outside of this.

This is the normal for this chain, large good prices and busy, food turn out was not as quick as some other resturant in the chain,it was a bit untidy as tables not cleared but it was 6pm peak time.

Another bad meal there. Customer care of the female manager was virtually non-existent. The whole plate of food tasted really odd.

I often go to the Herbert Wells and usually like it there lots but last Tues Went there there with my husband for a steak dinner and a drink . The barman was very rude which is unusual for a Wetherspoons Pub I asked for my pint in a thin glass and he said NO you have to have this glass for that drink I said I always have that drink in a thin glass in every Wetherspoons I go he would not budge even waved the thin glass in my face saying NO so I had a different drink in a thin glass I thought what a petty nasty **** He was a tall thin older man with grey hair . So beware of him hope he gets sacked after all us customers are paying his wages and he is giving Wetherspoons a bad name so SAD

Popped in for a breakfast, all the ingredients were tasty, only the bacon came across as lukewarm to cold. Staff were friendly who tried to assist us when we couldn't get on the wi-fi. My wife who had the child/small breakfast said that her plate was cold so her breakfast went cold quicker leaving her to leave about a quarter, could the child's breakfast be separated from the small breakfast option to ensure that the plate comes out as hot. Wasn't very busy and not in a very interesting building used to be the local Woolworths where my mother-in-law used to work but good atmosphere would mean that we would make a return visit. Good coffee making machine as well, with quick service on cleaning the table and bringing the food out

Stopped for lunch, nice friendly pub. Plenty tables. Good menu choice- standard weather spoons, reasonably priced. Food arrived swiftly. Would recommend

Popped in after shopping as other half wanted craft beer. I also like craft beer and I also like gin. They had an intriguing can next the Elvis Juice - a craft beer with gin botanicals - can I just say - Wetherspoons you really need to take this out your fridges. It’s truly awful and undrinkable. Left it and moved onto proper craft beer as it should be.

We had a nice time at here. A quick breakfast, filling, tasty great value. Good ambience too. This place is good for vegetarians also.

On a Friday night; pub crawl with buddies

We have been to The Herbert Wells in Woking for breakfast many times. This by far is the best run Wetherspoons Pub I've ever been in! Staff are very friendly, attentive and professional. Food is consistently good. As with all pubs in this chain, price is perfect. Well done guys for your good work. Cheers!!!

I like Spoons as you know what you're getting, it's "normal" food (not this fancy modern food that is pretty to look at but no substance) served hot for a reasonable price.

Unless you dont know what wetherspoons is you know exactly what you are getting. Nobody can complain that the drinks prices are fantastic. Food wise it is acceptable and very good value for money but if you are looking for a freshly made meal you wont find it here as the majority is cooked from frozen

This is a classic Whetherspoons offering a great variety of ales, ciders and food at a very competitive price. It is busier than most but you can normally get a table. The staff handle the volume of trade well.

Fish Friday before a visit to the theatre. Bargain price but I think the fat was too hot as everything seemed overcooked. Shame as usually very impressed. Service via their new Order and Pay App is really good.

A very nice restaurant in the centre of Woking with reasonably priced breakfasts, beers and main courses.

we came here on a Tuesay which is grill day. We had sirloin steak and a drink for a special price and it was remarkably good far better than we expected. The menu had most of the standrd pub favourites. A great choice of real ales at one of cheapest prices around.

Nothing quite beats the simple and cheap Wetherspoon's english breakfast. Simple and tasty - breakfast for 4 under 20 pounds.

Good value for money, and a few good gluten free options - nachos, lamb shank, apple crumble with ice cream

Family visit in the evening. Steak Tuesdays. Steak and drinks for four for under £35. Can't beet it. Price and quality of the beer also very good.
