Absolutely wonderful customer service from the two ladies serving. I took my elderly mother who is in a wheelchair. I think we were a fraction late for hot food but they were so kind and helpful. They went out of their way, and even carried the trays to our table. Lovely people ❤️. It’s sometimes a struggle with a wheelchair and an elderly person, and people aren’t always helpful. But these two were terrific. The food was good but the service was great.

Donuts and cupcakes uncovered,so everyone queuing for food pass them .Did speak to manager who agreed they should be covered.Service was extremely slow although there were three members of staff .Cheese and ham toastie was very tasty lots of cheese . I observed a child poking the rolls ,I mentioned this to a member of staff and she shrugged her shoulders and said the parents would stop it .A short while and the same child returned and took a carton ,while a member of staff was at the chiller and didn’t say or do anything.Obviously parents are responsible for their child’s behaviour .I spoke to the catering manager who didn’t seem to think that there was a problem with food being touched .

Slow and unfriendly service at the till. The girl serving with strawberry blonde hair was unfriendly and no thank you what so ever. Not till and customer facing skills. The chips and sausage roll was good and Cappacino for a light snack after a play group there.

This café is located within Coventry’s museum but it also has a separate entrance. It is self-service. There wasn’t a great choice of food but we enjoyed a green tea and a flat white in a pleasant environment.

Service indifferent and not a brilliant choice of food and once it's gone it's gone! We opted for toasties with side salad. The salads were very unimaginative - lettuce, tomato and cucumber sprinkled with sweet corn! We won't eat here again.

Needed somewhere to grab a drink and snack before attending an event within the gallery and Alfred's was perfect. Not a lot of choice pre lunchtime but the toasted sandwich and latte were adequate. Sat at a large table as all the smaller ones needed clearing/cleaning and remained that way until a third member of staff turned up after about 15 minutes.

Absolutely rubbish ordered toasted panini, portion chips, juice and asked if the chai latte had no caffeine - she looked as if she checked and said no. This place is overpriced and food is not great - should have known by how many people were in the cafe! Having charged extra for soya milk too... who charges for soya milk still... The side salad of tomato, iceberg lettuce and cucumber looked like it been around for days. No crunch and droopy. Well after drinking the latte discovered it absolutely had caffeine - black tea! When I went to the barista she said no I didn’t make it in the coffee machine so it’s got no caffeine - my word what do you say to that one’s got no hope. I then tried to explain to her the box says black tea - this is caffeine. She looked blank but I did get my money back for latte. But oh dear...Don’t bother going...

After a full morning of seeing Coventry city centre ( Cathedral,, Lady Godiva etc etc) this conveniently placed and competitively priced Cafe provided just what we wanted. A full range of quick and cheap 'eats' with plenty for the kids to choose from. It has a nice setting( we sat in the sun letting the feet recover) and it abuts the excellent Herbert Art Gallery & Museum which is also well worth a visit. Time at the cafe is strongly recommend

I first visited here because Coventry University were offering free cake here during Fresher's week. I definitely intend to come back.I have come here twice - both for hot chocolate and cake. The hot chocolate was average, but the cakes are amazing! On my first visit I had a Victoria Sponge. It was delicious. The servings are of a perfect size. On my second visit I just picked up a random cake. I don't know what it was, but I still loved it!The staff here are helpful and will answer any question asked about the food and drink in the cafe. They were very efficient and happy to help.I will be back again, and have suggested the cafe to my parents for when they come up to Coventry.

We arrived here during a weekend outing to Coventry, to increase my artistic horizon. Naturally, doge was hungry, so we first proceeded to the cafe. We arrived at the café at 7 minutes to 2(PM) and I felt like having a panini. When we arrived at the counter they said they were closed, even though the sign said they closed at 2pm and we were there 5 minutes before! I was v sad, but it was saved by a trip to Gregg's in town. Apart from that the cafe looked good, just a bit disappointed they closed too early

We arrived around 2.30pm to the Cafe and wanted to order an espresso, but were told (not very politely) the coffee machine was already being cleaned so there was no coffee anymore on that day - despite the fact that, according to the barista, they only close at 3.30pm (and their website says they close at 4pm). Quite disappointing. The museum is great, though.

Turned up for lunch with two kids and grandparents in tow - what could go wrong!? Consulted the menu, made our choices and approached the counter - "two childrens tomato pasta please" I said - "oh...", said the man - "...we don't have anything on the children's menu". "Really?!" said I, "that's appalling" and so the renegotiation began, fortunately we managed to convince a 4 yr old to have chips and beans, and a 6 yr old to have a panini. On the bright side the soup we had was delicious, and the cake afterwards was lovely, though I am significantly poorer for the visit. Will I go back?...maybe for a coffee, and only with children that don't want anything of the children's menu, because let's face it there was an empty corner of the menu that needed filling and the kid's menu was perfect for this!

There's a welcoming feeling to the gallery, and they've worked hard to create accessible exhibitions; most older kids will like it, I think. Avoid the cafe, though, as the way the staff work makes it unbelievably noisy and the fare is pretty average.

Visited on a Sunday, opens at 12pm. Staff friendly and helpful. The gallery was very clean and well laid out.Two children with me one interested the other found it boring. Some activities for children but not enough to keep them fully engagedThe cafe I felt was disappointing, dirty cups and plates on tables had to clean myself before we could sit and eat. Limited menu and over prized. The children had a toastie which had hardly any cheese in it.Hot chocolate and a muffin for me which was ok.Maybe best to visit during holidays so more for the children but as an adult plenty to see.

We visited during the school holidays and wasn't expecting much, how wrong were we? The children's television exhibition was fantastic bringing back memories for us middle aged parents and equally our teenage children. We had a browse around the rest of the gallery too and were pleasantly surprised, worthy of a mention are the exhibits about Coventry during the war, and about Godiva.A free local attraction that we had never heard of or knew existed. I was several times in Coventry but this time I took one afternoon to visit the Herbert Gallery. Although I knew the statue of Lady Godiva on horse (not too far from the Gallery and at the centre of the town) I did not know the exact Story. Visiting the Gallery finally I knew why she was naked on the horse. I will not tell here the Story because the first room of the Museum will tell you why! Visit it!

We went to the Herbert specifically to see the History of Children's Television exhibit (we have been many times before, especially when my brother worked there!) & we we're not disappointed! Situated upstairs in a small gallery, it held so many treasures of a tv bygone era, everything from Muffin the Mule to the Tweenies! It brought back many happy memories of hours spent sat in front of the tele, & if this sort of thing interests you, be quick & get down there as it finishes mid - September!

We had drinks and cake late morning and then returned for lunch. All the food was very nice and reasonably priced. The cafe is fairly clinical in furnishings but was generally clean apart from the left-over meal debris on many tables. There seemed to be a half-hearted self-clear process but there were not many staff on duty and being a busy Saturday, tables were being cleared very slowly. There was a nice salad-bar and several hot meals on offer in addition to sandwiches. The soup of the day was a rather odd combination of swede and butternut squash - it didn't appeal. The hot meals were very good … a vegetarian chick pea chilli with rice and bolognese sauce with pasta were the two that we tried, both were very good.Children's options seemed somewhat limited. The only thing specifically for them was a combined sandwich, drink etc. lunchbox. Many places offer a child's jacket potato portion, i.e. half a potato. Unfortunately, we had to buy a full potato for each of them … but they were very nice potatoes. The staff were friendly and polite but I had difficulty making myself understood a few times. They also seemed very stretched in keeping up with demand. There was quite a surge of families at around lunchtime, so I suggest getting there early if you want hot food.

I visited on an Easter holiday weekday with my children. The main goal was to participate in a scheduled activity, which cost a mere £1 per child. It was well organized, and the children enjoyed it. We then visited the Godiva exhibition and the History gallery, which they also enjoyed. We ended our visit with a meal in the cafe. The food was fine, and there was an inviting salad buffet, which I wasn't able to try. I hope to return!

Visited Coventry City Centre as a relative has been excepted for the University. I said I would meet them for lunch. It was bitterly cold and I went early to suss out somewhere to eat as they are not local. It was Saturday lunchtime. The area around the University was being revamped with many roads and walkways partitioned off and business and eateries all closed. I knew of Browns, they had no menu outside, St Mary's Crypt was shut, Playwrights was full but no one was eating and the menu expensive for the choice, the same went for The Event, there was a café just closing at the back of Cathedral Lanes shopping Centre, the Cathedral Gift Shop was shut, no staff, The Info Centre has moved. I was getting desperate to get in somewhere out of the cold but near enough to see the University. The Courtyard pub was shut as was The Newt and Cucumber and The Coventry Cross pub. I tried to work out how to get to the cathedral refectory without paying the £8 entry charge, tried down the steps by the side of the Prefect's house and down the other side. Gave up. I stood at the top of the steps to the old Cathedral. I had a good view of the University from there. The Cathedral admissions board blew over I was waiting for tumbleweed to follow. My relatives turned up and we hoped that the Herbert Art Gallery café was still open. This was 1.30pm. There was a long queue at the servery, and we waited in vain for a table to be cleared. We did it ourselves in the end. As we inched up in the queue the salads looked very desimated and wilted, the unnamed hot dishes had films conjealed on them and looked like slop, what was left of them. the lady in front of me had the last portion of soup, "I think I can just scrape one" said the harrassed lady behind the counter, and the gentleman in front of me had the last jacket spud. The home made cakes were in the middle of the room and you helped yourself but they had been heavily bombarded. So I had a flapjack and 3 hot drinks for a pricely £8. I hope you have the right change said the cashier. We all had £20 notes so I got a pocket full of 'shrapnel'. What must visitors think?
