By food, I of course mean beers. Great selection of casks and kegs, with some hard to find standouts. They also offer 4 1/3 pints for a fixed price, which might be a great way to sample different drinks on the same night. Some ambient rock music playing. Staff is knowledgeable about beers (so you can ask for recommendations)

I've been going here since the day it opened, it's changed a bit since then, new owners, a brand name in multiple cities etc. It's still, however, a nice place for a drink when you just get off the train. Prices are a bit eye watering but it is middle of town next to the station and goes with the territory.

Great pub! We ended a night out here, it was perfect. It is upstairs with no lift so not accessible. I was able to leave my mobility scooter downstairs and go upstairs but only because I chose to leave it unguarded downstairs. Toilets are downstairs only and require a code, completely understandable.

I haven't been to all of the Head of Steam pubs, but I can tell you that this is the most disappointing one of the 3 I have spent time in. Some of the negatives aren't exactly their fault: the toilets being downstairs by the street entrance and secured with a coded lock is clearly because people were wandering in off the street and using the place for all sorts of less-pleasant activities. However, having the cubicle door locks effectively removed - they were obviously kicked in, but then painted over instead of fixing them - makes the place feel very insecure and not a nice experience when I needed to use one. I'd go as far as to say that if my wife wasn't still sat upstairs I'd have left and found another pub. The beer selection seemed reasonable, as you'd expect from the chain, but the staff couldn't have been less welcoming without actually ignoring us. At one point I looked at the bar and wondered if the guy was actually just watching the bar for a pal while he went for a pee. Some of the furnishings were threadbare and the overall ambience was closer to an old working/social club that had tried to update itself. I give it a 3 rating because nothing was truly awful (except the toilets) but it would be a last resort if I was looking for a station-adjacent pub in Newcastle again, and it would have put me off the chain if I hadn't already experienced the joy that is their Leeds flagship bar.

This place has two pages. Presumably once did some sort of food and don't any more. Beer was terribly kept and overly expensive and the attitudes of the bar staff matched. All seemed either inexperienced or too comfortable. Particularly the little lad (older, short, full of himself) Club night was so loud it interfered with the music playing upstairs and continuously spilled out to the street where fights broke out and no-one intervened. I don't think they've heard of "duty of care". The doorman was pointless as he was alone. Avoid if you want something drinkable.

Went to a gig, was very fun, nice place however the managers attitude was disgusting. We came in before the show Started and we all waited downstairs near the doors as my friend has a disability it's unnecessary walking for her and her legs could collapse, me, my friends and another group of people where told by staff it was okay to stay there, another staff member said we can't stand there as we are blocking the fire exit, we said nicely we where told its okay so he went to get the manager. The manager said the same as him, that we are blocking the fire exit and need to wait outside or go upstairs, my friend explained she can't as she's disabled and it's unnecessary walking for her, the manager then turned round and said "well you are going to have to walk downstairs to the show anyway so why can't you walk upstairs" she again explained cos it's unnecessary walking for her as she doesn't need to go upstairs but needs to go downstairs to the concert. She said " well wait outside then" and I said "if everyone waits outside isn't that blocking people as well?" She kept going on about how we need to go upstairs and that if my friend can go downstairs she can go upstairs, I explained she was being ableist and she said "no I'm not, YOU are blocking the fire exit" she then on purpose slams the door into me and says "this is the fire exit" very aggressively. We all eventually just go outside cos we didn't have a problem with that its just we had been told two different things and my friend couldn't physically go upstairs. Apart from that good night and nice bar staff.

There are two Head Of Steam Pubs in Newcastle, one down Quayside and this outlet on Neville Street ,we visited both and I thought this one was the best even though their other outlet is brilliant. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, the interior is superb, wood panelled walls,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, tv's to enjoy the sport, eclectic decor and furnishings, nice wall art and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a very cool Head Of Steam Pub outlet. We were here on a Friday, we had just had a great day/ night out in Durham visiting the great pubs in that beautiful town ,we arrived here well after midnight and this pub was packed with a great atmosphere, a quick study of their beer range and we both opted to have a pale ale each, these were served in pristine condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great atmosphere in this busy and popular pub. The pale ale served in here was spot on, a well balanced pale ale, hints of citrus, a big hit of hops, very pleasant on the tongue, so easy to drink, a totally refreshing brew on a hot night, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and soaking up the great vibe in this pub. We ended up staying here for a couple of hours ,we enjoyed another pale ale each and a nice German beer that was out of this world, we couldn't fault anything about our visit here, great staff, wonderful pub and a great range of well kept beers, when we are back in Newcastle again its a pub we will most definitely revisit This Head Of Steam Pub is easy to locate along Neville Street facing Newcastle Central Station. Opening hours are; Monday & Tuesday, Closed. Wednesday & Thursday, 5pm till 2am. Friday & Saturday, Midday till 3am. Sunday, 5pm till 2am. A wonderful Head Of Steam Pub, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

I was really looking forward to having a drink and food with my wife after a lovely day in Newcastle. I unfortunately sneezed when walking towards the bar and caught this in a tissue. The barman was very aggressive in his attitude when I approached the bar to order. The barman raised his voice and told me to sanitise my hands. I understand the caution, however he was truly unpleasant and belittled us in front of other customers and a very unnecessary response. Such a shame to be encountered by unpleasant staff, what was obviously an issue for him and could have been dealt with in a more humane way.
