It’s shut - google maps stil holds a recommendation of 4.6 but doubt that holds up for a pub shut since ~Sept 2022!! Hopefully you’ll have checked TA before you schlepp over there…

We took our sister for her birthday Sunday meal. Lovley setting absolutely gorgeous food all in all fabulous great atmosphere too

On route to Penzance and we stumbled across this pub after seeing a signpost. Very welcoming and friendly with quick efficient service. Food was lovely and good sized portions. They even laughed at my husbands “dad” jokes!

Ate here twice during our holiday (one Sunday dinner). The staff were so welcoming and accommodating to our multi-generational party (with picky eaters). The food was really lovely. Just what we needed. Astonished it wasn’t packed. Check opening hours, but we’ll worth a visit for anyone visiting Cornwall, especially if you love good food away from the crush of tourist traps.

Been a few times now for food always excellent and great service from friendly polite staff, will be back next time we are down this way again.

We haven't visited this lovely pub for a while because of the traffic works outside the village, but it was worth the travel tonight. Great food and fab welcome by the team. The traffic wasn't as bad as we thought and we definitely won't leave it so long till next time. Don't let the roadworks nearby, put you off the journey.

Amazing place, amazing food! Broke down on my way home on a Sunday and they went above and beyond to help me and my kids out! Even letting us sit in the warm when the pub was closed and gave the kids sandwiches! Food was amazing especially the BBQ pork ribs!

Unfortunately we had to cancel at the last minute. They were very kind and understanding and did not charge us. I would certainly recommend the Hawkins Arms as they are lovely people to deal with and they run a very good business with excellent customer service. Brilliant.

For price bit disappointed fish was bland clearly frozen .

Having found out that they support and welcome the local hunt group Four Burrow Hunt, will definitely never be going there

Do not visit as food is rubbish and staff rude. After our walk we stopped here, we were also met with the middle class hunting types which in unnerved us.

Holidaying from London and was recommended this place by a lovely gentleman whilst driving past the town of Rose. He described it as more restaurant than pub quality food. Me & my partner Helen both had lovely meals and she in particular was happy with the vegan choices available. We ate there a few days after August Bank Holiday Monday. This meant it was a little on the quieter side, but we found the staff were polite, interested and attentive all throughout the evening. Highlights were the triple cooked chips & salted caramel cheesecake 😋. Would visit again.

Wonderfully welcoming, saved a day out with a very tired and hungry Dad. Huge portions of very tasty food.

Communications, service, food and good clean room all excellent and highly recommended. We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great food and very accommodating. Due to a mix up we arrived shortly after the kitchen had closed, they made us welcome and let us order a meal if we skipped the starter. The food was fantastic especially the triple cooked chips. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend a visit.

We stayed here in 2018 and again this week 2021 Absolutely brilliant place with amazing service. Food is top class and bedrooms first class with all the latest modern facilities. The owners cannot do enough for you so kind and always a smile.We have had a brilliant week here 🥰

I called this place to speak to the owner as I had a request before I paid them a visit. A woman answered and was very rude making assumptions of what the call was about. She asked why I wanted to speak to the owner, then before I got the chance to answer she said "is it about gas?" "Electricity?" "You want our credit card detail?" Absolutely shocking making assumptions like that.

Over priced and quality not great, you pay for what you get I suppose. But you would definitely expect better when a cheese bacon burger is £19, over cooked and no flavour to it.

We had good plain meals on our first night. The photographs on the website rather over states what you will actually get. It is just good plain food. Unfortunately the second night did not live up to previous night. My wife’s prawn salad was very poor. Tiny shrimps instead of prawns, an unimaginative salad and a poor cocktail dressing.Breakfast was quite good, only the cheap orange juice let it down.

Very pleasant early dinner here. Good and friendly service. They brought out the children’s meals early as requested and the pasta Bolognese went down very well. Food was pretty good, and setting was very nice.

It's February, damp quiet and nobody has any money. The wife had a birthday earlier in the week and a few months ago had mentioned going to the Hawkins Arms for a meal. So table booked and waiting in anticipation. Greeted by a friendly face on arrival at the bar, who remembered that I had visited earlier in the week to book a table. Drinks ordered and shown to our table. Wood burner keeping a warm atmosphere. No starters just straight into the main events perfectly cooked and flavoured. Served so hot there is no way it could have been stood about. The desserts were delightful, yet more clean plates. Thank you Hawkins Arms.

Went here with my husband whilst on holiday, we waited nearly an hour for our meal. My husband ordered chicken with vegetables and dauphinois potatoes, when it came it had fries instead, nothing was mentioned. When I complained all they offered to do was knock off the price of the fries! Will not be visiting again

Really awful I had the steak and ale pie with chips and veg the pie was most definitely not fresh or it had been cremated pastry rock hard and the steak inside was black in colour which made me think this was not fresh. The pub it’s self is dire need of redecoration as the chair I sat on was in a bad state. To be fair we did call in without booking and the staff were pleasant and friendly however they got the bill wrong and tried to over charge us

Really lovely food but lacking atmosphere and service. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday dinner, the food was top quality - the steak and ale pie was stunning! However, considering we were the only table in the pub for a good portion of our meal, we struggled to get staff attention to get additional drinks and cutlery for our mains, the chef (who served our food) had to ask for this to be given to us and if we’d like any sauce. Was tempted by a dessert as the food was so tasty, but as the tables around us were being packed down and set up for the next day’s breakfast (at 7:45pm!?) we decided to settle up instead.Worth trying for the food, but don’t expect an overly attentive service!

Booked 4 days in advance for table of 6 and asked if weather was dry we would sit outside As two of us are disabled/vulnerable. Menu and reviews looked good. When we arrived the “garden” was gross. Overgrown grass, the resident dog (which was cute) was weeing everywhere. The extractor kitchen fan pumps out everything into the garden So it’s very smokey. Fag buts scattered on the grass. The “covered” outside dining area was nothing more than a shoddy gazebo frame with picnic tables - I think the roof cover had blown off the night before as it was scrunched up in the corner. My husband went inside to ask for menu. Told there was no menu, it was on a blackboard, so took a photo on his phone and came out to show us. Despite it only being 7:45pm, all the starters had sold out apart from the beetroot falafel. All the pies and burgers were sold out. We decided as the menu was so limited we would Explain, apologise and leave. When my husband went back inside to explain, the woman was abrupt and said “well what do you expect? It’s bargain night” she then got aggressive and said as we had a dog with us, we wouldn’t be allowed to eat inside anyway. This was before we had even the chance to explain I was disabled and this was my trained assistance dog. The tables inside were very close together and it’s a small stuffy place inside. Very rude service for a village pub. Certainly as locals, we were looking forward to it but now will not be back.

We had a roast dinner it was very average quite stingy on portions. 3 small potatoes (new) roasted, 2 vegetables which were hard carrots and yellow broccoli and what looked like aunt Bessie's Yorkshire pudding, gravy was tasteless. £50 for 2 meals and desserts not worth the money I can cook a much better dinner. Very disappointed wont be going again

Nice pub. We dined in the restaurant after sampling some of the local ales. Very clean place, good choice of food, which was served fast and a good portion size for the hungry people! Friendly staff. Happy to recommend.

Booked here after reading reviews and we were not disappointed. Post Covid & you can see they’ve thought about everything. Every single member of staff was attentive and super quick service! I had Chicken, Bacon & leek pie and my partner had steak pie! Piping hot, fresh crunchy veg and the pies were delicious. I asked for extra gravy and the young lad came back and asked which pie was the gravy for....how impressive is that! Eat out to help out scheme here so it’s wonderful the cost was lower than normal and we would definitely go back in a heartbeat.

We had a fabulous meal last night at The Hawkins Arms. We were greeted as soon as we arrived in and we’re made to feel welcome and at home. The pub is beautifully situated and the decor is cosy and tasteful. We both had starters of crayfish cocktail, and my partner had lamb curry, which was a special and I enjoyed roasted chicken with all the trimmings of crispy roasted potatoes and fresh vegetables. Both meals were beautifully cooked and delicious. We felt the service was excellent also. We would definitely recommend and return when we are next in the area. Thanks for a lovely evening all at the Hawkins Arms!

Went following a recommendation, the food was good - bbq riblets and steak and ale pie were the highlights. Chunky chips were chunky and dauphinois potatoes were amazing.Limited number of starters but all able to find an option.Chocolate and salted caramel cheesecake went down well and the red berry Eton mess was full of both red berries as well as meringue!

We have just had the most amazing meals and experience at this very friendly family run pub/restaurant. The service was fantastic and served with total adherence to Covid rules. We felt extremely safe and in a very friendly atmosphere. I had mussels for starter and chicken for main meal. They were both mouth ‘ wateringly’ deliciously cooked! Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. It’s a welcoming gem with a warm welcome and delicious food.

Delicious food. Personal service. Felt very safe with covid precautions. This venue has become a holiday tradition where both adults and children felt it was a special occasion. For children to ask if they can come back for again speaks volumes. (No play area - formal eating and waitress/ chef asked them their choices directly if there was a query.)

Just had a great meal here with friends. The mussels for starter were great and more like a main portion! The burger, always a test of pub grub, was incredible! Fantastic taste and texture. Great food.

What a Takeaway !!! I have often gone to The Hawkins Arms with my family when I visit and I have never been disappointed.Following the tragic death of my brother in April Mum and I decided to order fish and chips from themWe asked for a time slot, gave our order were told procedure for COVID restrictions. Everything was well planned (paid contactless) on picking it up.Well........it was delicious, Beautifully cooked beer battered cod and huge crunchy chips. So many fish and chip shops could learn from this. Thank you so much !!!

We ordered the advertised Fish & Chips from Adam & Alex at the Hawkins Arms they were excellent and hopefully they will be doing them next Friday.

Came here for sunday lunch menu was Pork or Beef,ordered Pork we got slabs of fat .Nowhere on the menu said Fatty pork belly or we would definitely NOT have ordered it.The sweet menu was offered we ordered chocolate torte,we got sponge cake.No explanation or apology.Why do they ask what you want and then give you something completely different.We could not complain as we were with others and did not like to make a scene.A definite place to avoid.

Stopped off on the way home due from holiday due to heavy traffic, we just went to the nearest place we could find. We were so pleased to find a lovely pub with absolutely fantastic home cooked food. We will definitely be making a point of calling again this year. Would strongly recommend this place.

Wow, couldn't believe how Nice the food here was. Arrived with my friend to do some surfing and stopped off here for food. The staff were really friendly and even gave us advice of the best surf beaches. We will definitely return soon.

Was talking to someone I work with about places I have had bad Sunday Roast's she said the Hawkins Arms had been taken over and her sister had enjoyed her time there. We had been there years ago and was disappointed with our meal, anyway, we decided to try again and what a great meal arrived. The first thing was HOT PLATES as so many times they serve hot food on cold plates, the next was a lovely selection of veg and well-cooked meat. I will return again soon and hope the standard has been kept

Visited this pub whilst staying close by on holiday and we were not disappointed. It is a traditional village pub with the bonus of having a light an airy dining area added. The staff where friendly and attentive and the service and food quality were very good. The menu provided normal pub grub with a selection of excellent specials available.Would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

New years day lunch out is a family tradition so we booked into the Hawkins arms. Excellent atmosphere in this old world with a bit of new pub. The nenu was very good with a good choice of food on offer. Just to be different we ordered the seafood share plate for 2 as a main course it was absolutely delicious and didn't really need the chips but they too were really good. A good experience with good service and excellent quality food.

Great place landlord gives me extra potatoes Sunday lunch great food

As a group of friends visiting Zelah, we booked a table for nine for Sunday evening. Most of us chose the beef roast, which was served in huge portions. Moreover, the food was delicious and service was amazing.

About 30 of us enjoyed a great lunch last Sunday at the Hawkins Arms. Most had the full roast, a choice of beef or pork, with all meals being served promptly and with a selection of seasonal veggies and Yorkshire puds. Staff were all excellent, happy and helpful, and we enjoyed a selection of desserts to follow, all of which were similarly first class. The reasonable cost made the afternoon simply perfect - well done!

Have visited several times for family occupations, for both lunch and evening meals. The food, hospitality and character of the place are outstanding. They cater for vegetarians with several dishes, however the Red Thai Curry is gorgeous. I would highly recommend this pub/ restaurant.
