We first visited for takeaway pizzas during covid and returned on holiday this year. Friendly, accommodating staff and great service. Value for money and quality home cooked food. Will definitely be back.

We came in around 6pm but didn’t want a table till 7:30ish, Charlotte took my name and said we will see what we can do if you come back. So we did, we perched on the end of a large table(there was only 3 of us), we ordered food and they accommodated our requests with no issues. Whilst waiting for food a table came free, and we sat at our own table. We had pizza, margarita, the lottie, and the spicy one, and OMG best pizza ever. Booking in advance is recommended.

The best chicken Katsu curry I've had in a long time. The food was fresh and well presented. A chilled out atmosphere, the staff were extremely friendly with great customer service. A very traditional style tavern with a good view of the harbour.

THIS PLACE HAS CHANGED!! What has happened?!?! Has there been a change in management in recent times? This place was the "GO TO" each summer we visit this beautiful harbour town. There was always a queue on the street to wait and that was always OK, we didbt mind, because everything used to be absolutely outstanding. Excited for this summers return trip with the family, we raced down the hill from the car park to find that there was no queue outside (bit odd on a bank holiday weekend, this place had them queing outside the street year on year) furthermore, some random DJ advertisement on the window outside and I instantly thought "What's happened?!?" Upon entering the premises we found no sign of the familiar friendly staff waiting to greet us and sit us down. Furthermore there was no sign to say "sorry this isn't table service anymore" either, just a cold stare from a dark haired girl behind the bar and a point to a table in the window. My heart sank, I knew this place had changed and it was starting to feel like I had never been here before. After 10 minutes of waiting, I went to the bar to ask "is it order at the bar now?" The lady nodded and pointed to some menus on a nearby dresser. Why not have a sign to tell the returning customers that service has now changed? Think of the customer journey. The food was higher in price which was to be expected in this cost of living crisis, but if the quality was the same then we wouldn't mind. We are certainly all for supporting small businesses. The fish and chips used to be crispy, light and all the batter used to be gluten free, no matter who ordered. It was the standard recipe. The peas used to be salty and minted accompanied by the most delicious creamy homemade tarter sauce. This is what had us returning year after year!!! Well sadly it's nothing like this now. 😢 It's a cheap HEINZ sachet of sauce, a small dollop of some bland mushy peas and the chips tasted like they had been reheated (starchy!!) I was in despair, what had happened to our beloved holiday eating spot!! 😢 The GF fish batter was the soggy, pale, bicarbonate of soda rubbish you get anywhere, it's cheap and nasty. Where has that secret recipe gone?? This place used to be a cut above the rest, a reason to travel into Mevagissey, and now ... it's... just an average place to eat. The quality is on par with a weatherspoons but more expensive. Absolutely gutted, it must have changed hands, what a huge shame!! Our family tradition of eating here is now over and we are on the hunt for a new place. Its just not the same. I agree with the other customers statement that previous reviews are no longer valid, they are of the old days, the old management and old team. New management need to work this out or they will certainly keep losing customers. EDIT IN RESPONSE: 1) No one came to check on us or how the food was, the establishment as you say is "bar service" 2) We did ask for fresh tarter sauce and was told its no longer part of the menu. 3) If you see our previous reviews you will know we have eaten at many a 5* restaurant and your chef certainly isnt at this standard at all. Perhaps some porkie pies on the CV ??? 4) it does unfortunately look like that across Google, trip advisor and more the negative reviews are starting to stack up. We can't all be wrong?

Visited this place yesterday and was sadly ignored by staff. We walked out.

Great down to earth staff and made to feel welcome

Very nice environment and harbor view. The service is very kind and the dishes are prepared on the spot. We tried the catch of the day (hake), very good, the small fish and chips and the vegetarian burger. All very good, although quite expensive compared to the portions

We booked a table over the phone yet turned up to be told that there wasn’t a table for us. Some other diners who had finished, kindly moved to accommodate us and then we went to the bar to order food only to be told that they had stopped serving food for the evening as there was bingo on? No apology, no alternative suggested. We left with two hungry children and then wondered around for nearly 30mins in the rain, looking for somewhere else to eat. When we walked past the window on our way back to our hotel, we were a little shocked and annoyed to see a group of 6 people (who had arrived and were seated after us) tucking into food!? Not the best first impression and wouldn’t return. Shame as reviews were decent and food looked good. My kids were looking forward to the pizza.

*In response to owner* Whilst I appreciate your response, your staff are not being transparent with you. I did inform them I cannot have cheese, if my pizza was cooked in a separate pizza oven there wouldn’t have been cheese on my pizza whatsoever so clearly it either wasn’t cooked separately or the correct cross contamination prevention wasn’t followed. The head chef DID come and speak to us both at the bar because originally my wife ordered the crab pizza that’s advertised outside your establishment on the menu by the door and we paid for it to then be told by the head chef it had changed to a mussel & cockle pizza due to your crab not “selling well” so I had to get the difference refunded when my wife had to then order a different pizza. Your chef also asked about my cheeseless pizza and I confirmed I cannot have cheese.. so YES your staff did speak to me about it, including 2 female bar staff who personally told the kitchen about me not being able to have cheese on my pizza so I’m not sure why you’re staying they didn’t.. If you had responded sooner I’d have happily come into the restaurant for a face to face chat about the situation but unfortunately you’ve responded the day after I left as I do not live in Mevagissey. My view still stays the same, please be more careful with allergens, when someone states they cannot have it there’s a good reason. I asked for a bbq pizza without cheese as I have an allergy. My Pizza first arrived with no onions so just asked for a handful to be put on and didn’t notice that there was melted cheese around the top few slices and some on the bottom.. got back to my place where I’m staying and took a bite only to end up pulling it straight out of my mouth as there was cheese on it. Absolutely ridiculous that someone can mess up that badly and not even check it to make sure you didn’t put cheese on it. I took it back and explained and got a “sorry about that” with my my refund for the pizza, at least I got my refund I guess but still… the kitchen was told and clearly someone was annoyed. If you have allergies check your food thoroughly before you eat it or you may end up with an allergic reaction. As for the kitchen, I’d recommend you have allergy training and understand how important it actually is to someone who’s allergic and if you can’t guarantee it then don’t serve it. But check your food before you send it to customers with allergies. We had plans to eat here next week, unfortunately now we won’t be returning. Now I’ve been left with no dinner this evening because I was looking forward to pizza… My wife did get take away pizza and didn’t have issue with hers.

The most amazing food (especially the fresh mussels!!!) and incredible service. Teresa made us feel so welcome… even our doggies. ❤️

Staff were super friendly, the place was packed but still felt cosy, and we were able to hold a conversation despite other people’s chatter. Probably some of the best burgers we’ve ever had, you can taste the quality of the meat. I’m not a soup kinda guy, but I had a taste of the soup my partner got and it was surprisingly good

Great welcome, brilliant service, and tasty food. Highly recommend this restaurant, lovely Landlady and her staff.

Came here in a group and the staff were super friendly and helpful, we shared some Camembert for starters (wild garlic on the bread, was delicious) and had a selection of mains. I had the katsu curry which was tasty and a very generous portion, although one in the group had the risotto and was less keen on this.

Food was delicious and perfect portion sizes (highly recommend the fish and chips)! Great music playing too and all the staff were lovely.

Great place visited today with my family, staff were so welcoming, had colouring for my boys to do whilst we decided what to eat. Catered for vegans which was great as my son is anaphylactic to dairy and I'm lactose intolerant so was great to be able to have a tea with alternative milk and dairy free spread on my son's toast. Food was fantastic good value for money and lovely quality. Lovely place with lovely staff and lovely food.

Very welcoming environment and Martin and his staff could not have been kinder. Wholeheartedly recommend a visit when in town.

Visited this place last night after the original booking was cancelled by another restaurant, tbh was glad it happened as this place was amazing, the food was amazing and the service was A* even went back this morning for breakfast which was also amazing and would highly recommend!! If I ever go to Mevagissey again will definitely be visiting this pub again!!

The food was very nice. My wife had fish and chips, I had burger and chips The portion of fish and chips was very well presented. My Burger and Chips was also presented very well but the portion of chips served with my Burger was very poor. The taste was OK but I was very very disappointed with the portion of chips. They were served in like a small frying basket which contained around 8 chips not what you would expect for around £16.

Matt the chef's food was out of this world!! Great value for plates so delicious and made with skill and love. Theresa was a great waitress who tended to our every need and checked on us after a warm welcome on such a drizzly day Shame about the younger waitress girl.who ignored our empty starter plate for 20 mins while she was stood at the end of the bar with her hands on her hips

Came to watch the Euros, the atmosphere was great and the food was also delicious. Had a really lovely time, we returned the next day for a pint😀

Absolutely loved this place!! Staff were so friendly, the owners were great, everyone there treated us like friends ❤️ food was always delicious! Even during feast week when the staff were rushed off their feet, they were always attentive! Can’t wait to come back, maybe sea shanty weekend? Wonderful place to visit for breakfast. Staff are very pleasant and the view of the harbour is beautiful from the window. The full monty was delicious, great quality meats, and the hash browns are just as I like them!

They had a local rock and blues band on and what a great atmosphere they created. I remember they were called One for the Road. The venue is right on the harbourside. Beautiful location.

Called into harbour tavern ,went to the bar no slimline tonics (this is what we have )take it or leave it asked if there was any tables available for food ,was told abruptly NO ,then while standing there drinking 2 tables came available, so much for being fully booked ,was disgusted in service and attitude of staff ,will never call in again

Nice little place on the harbour, but could do with revamping the menu. It was a little limited if you didn't fancy pizza, compared to other places on the harbour and even compared to itself a few years ago. It was still a nice meal though.

Back again this year and tried breakfast (full monty) and dinner (vegan katsu cauliflower, red pepper and spinach curry). Both were wonderful! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, enough so that we felt comfortable dining there twice in one day. Would recommend.

Nice place for a drink and look over the harbour

What a lovely place. We visited on Tuesday evening which was our first night in Cornwall and we were introduced to Rattler Cyder... delicious! The owner was such a nice friendly guy. Made us feel right at home. Look forward to visiting again next time we are in Cornwall ❤️

Great place very friendly staff

Lovely place to spend an hour or 2 great food excellent coffee in a great location.

Called in for mid morning drink. The gentlemen serving was very very pleasant providing excellent cheerful service. Hot chocolate drinks and coffees were quality and superb in flavour. Very clean. Will certainly visit again.

Edit to reply to owner as couldn't find alternative way to respond: nobody came to ask if food was ok. Noone came over at all other than to put the food on the table. The bread definitely didn't taste fresh, one piece of my sandwich even felt rougher than the other piece, as if it was an end piece exposed? At home I would cut this end piece off before then cutting fresh pieces for a sandwich. Definitely wasn't the soft fresh feel you would expect. It just crumbled it was so dry. If there were fresh ones delivered this morning, all I can assume is that this came from what was left over in stock. At £15.50 for a sandwich and chips we expected far better than we received. Can't comment on sauce being homemade or not as was so little of it I couldn't tell. Not sure why chunky chips were replaced by the thin fries. £30 for two stale, dry sandwiches and burnt fries. Stopped in here for lunch. No staff speak to you when you come in, just sat down thinking someone would bring a menu but lady stood at bar on her phone. My husband went to get a menu and ordered at the bar. Ordered two prawn sandwiches that are priced at £15.50 each stating they come with a salad and chunky chips. We got thin fries that were so over cooked you couldn't get your fork in them or bite them. The bread was stale, dry and crumbled apart. Salad was a tiny amount on the side, one piece of cucumber and tomato. Not much sauce on the prawns. No staff around to complain to so we left and will most definitely not be returning. Incredibly disappointed.

Late in the day on the Sunday. Very accommodating and served us all coffees, just before they were due to close. Thank you.

Great venue for all in the area looking for good food, drinks, a good atmosphere. The owners are legends who took care of our family members on a couple of big festiv nights. No complaints hats off to big Al and Lindsey

Fantastic views over Mevagissey Harbour, especially if fishing boats coming in with their catch. Nice food, Good friendly service, very busy in season.

Only place open(10 am) late season serving light breakfast, so very welcome. Welcoming, friendly and excellent coffee. We'll start here for breakfast next time at this great location overlooking harbour.

I am updating my review as we went here again and it seems to have been taken over and the staff are rude, the place isn't clean, the toilets aren't clean and they weren't serving food? Half the reviews here are about how amazing the food is from the PREVIOUS OWNERS, didn't even have high chairs for little ones. Won't be coming back sorry

Delicious Sunday roast, great vegetables and lovely service. Puddings to die for! A little pricey but tasty

Service quick and efficient to begin with, good main meals but then waited over 30 minutes for desserts, which were luke warm and disappointing. No apology given for wait. Cost for 3 of us, no alcohol, two courses, £85, which I felt was overpriced for what it was. The Sharksfin is better value. I questioned the cost of the crab salad at £21.95, which I thought was £16.95 on the menu, to be told that the price of crab had gone up. They then said they were reimburse me £5, which was literally thrown at me out of the till without a word spoken. A real shame, as it all started well. Poor vegetation and vegan options too.

We spent a week in Mevagissey in late September, and popped into the Harbour on a fair few occasions for a pint or two, as well as enjoying a lovely bowl of succulent, meaty mussels on the Wednesday. The staff and owner could not have been more welcoming, and we're so looking forward to another visit!

Went there to day weather was blowing a gale.The bar staff made us so welcome and made us feel so special could not do enough for us 10 out 10 many Thanks one and all.

Great pub good section of ales and great food

This place was perfect. Right on the harbour with amazing views and great beer. We went over the sea shanty weekend and the atmosphere was perfect, a lot of laughs and a few pints with the rugby. The staff are brilliant and do everything they can to accommodate and make us feel at home!

Popped in for a drink only, very spacious clean place. Nice service. View out to harbour. Outside seating was available.

Great choice of food and the quality is very good. Service good, too. I had the 'catch of the day' (which was sea bass) and my husband had calamari with a side of pulled pork (he loves pulled pork!). Nice atmosphere and will definitely return when we're next in the area.

Under new ownership but they have a long way to get it to how it used to be. Staff need training in customer service. I asked for the steak ciabbata that is clearly on the evening menu. The young waitress took our order along with the menu. She then returned without the menu saying the steak ciabatta was on the lunchtime menu only. I ordered the only other option on the menu I would eat. The food arrived and it was ok,nothing special. What really annoyed me was after we had finished our meal a couple came and sat behind us. She too ordered the steak ciabatta. The same scenario went on but then the waitress came over and said to her they would honour it for her as it was their mistake and it was on the evening menu. I work in hospitality myself and this to me was bad practice!! NOT HAPPY.

Fish and chips £17 full of bones and very greasy rusty salt pot dirty vinegar pots and dirty sticky table would not eat here again should have just got fish and chips from takeaway and I don't want to climb over all the dogs in a resteraunt not very hygienic

Went inside, was ignored by I assume was the waitress. Eventually managed to get her attention. Asked if there was a table available, ‘you can sit there if you want’ was the answer. Asked if we ordered at the bar ‘I’ll be over when I’m ready’ was the response this time. The menus were thrown on the table with an ‘ee arr’. Even after this wonderful display of service we decided to stay. Well for 20 minutes of being ignored, in the end we decided to eat elsewhere. Not impressed.

Sat and waited and waited and waited for someone to come and serve us!! Not as though it was busy either. Ended up walking out.

The only place we could find open 8am for breakfast. Upon learning that where we stayed didn't do breakfast we were so pleased with Mevagissey Tavern. The staff were extremely friendly, polite & helpful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Top compliments to the chef! I would say best Full English I've ever had out! Unfortunately we hated it. Arrived just before 6pm. Got seated straight away on the last unbooked table. From then on it was a car crash. Ordered our meals at the side of the bar that said 'food order here' but the staff seemed unaware of any signs and 2 seprate ques and even had the cheak to moan to the lady infront of me about standing in the wrong place! There were locals at the bar so she was standing where she could! Anyway after a long wait we ordered including a starter, ham egg and chips but asked of I could swap the ham for sausages, kids fish and chips and adult fish and chips. The kids fish and chips were bigger and cheaper! The sausage and chips was just one sausage cut in half! Smell of cooking oil was insane for the whole hour we waited for our food. When asked why it took so long I was rudely told with a shrug, well that's what happens when it's busy. Didn't feel it was that busy! And to top it off, after paying and leaving checked the receipt to see they had over charged us £3 on our starter (bowl of olives and 2 pieces of bread) which on the menu was an overpriced £5.95 but we were charged £8.95! I returned to complain and get a refund but was told oh the menues are wrong, we haven't updated them, and then waited for me to leave! I didn't and reluctantly the member of staff gave me £3 from the till. Food was OK though but won't ever go back and can highly recommend ALL other food outlets that Mevagissey has over this one.

Awesome crab salad. Fresh catch too. The Fowey mussels were good as well. Was rammed out at 3pm which is always a good sign . There’s new owners but the food is just as good as has been in the past so no worries there. There is a wait for food as it’s all cooked to order and no microwave specials but all good things are worth the wait. Plus it’s Cornwall and everything is done dreckly and how I like the pace of life on holiday.

We visited on 10th August 2023. We arrived very close to final food orders and we were welcomed with open arms. Best service of any restaurant we have ever been in. The team were so lovely and friendly, very kind and went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. It was clear how passionate and hardworking the team are. A very family feel to the place. The food was gorgeous too!! We highly recommend a visit.

The great atmosphere! The pint of cider ok as well as the fish and chips however we do not recommend the cheeseburger which is not really 100% beef but rather a reconstituted protein. Too bad it started well despite a somewhat long service but the waitress honestly admitted to having forgotten to send our order..

Unfriendly atmosphere and service. Drink presentation basic, ignored when tried to pay. Put off from ordering food, as could smell old oil in dining area, could see food come out looked basic. Disappointed as we miss the great food and service provided from previous owners.

Mevagissey is a beautiful place, plenty of walking, and where better to rest and eat than here, fabulous food and amazingly friendly staff, by far the best experience I had when in Cornwall.
