Two of us called in for coffee and possibly food. The flat whites were very nice. That's it. We did try to engage the staff in conversation as there was nobody else in, but that went nowhere. I watched the interaction between the female member of staff and a customer. You have to be impressed with the ability to take an order and deal with the whole transaction without once making eye contact! Maybe it was just an off day. However, if you're dealing with customers who are looking for a pleasant experience and have money to spend, then off days should be hidden behind professionalism. We ate elsewhere.

Really delicious coffee, and such a lovely spot on the corner in the sun, but so disappointed by the service. Being a barista myself, I know how important customer service is, and the blunt and cold interaction I experienced left me feeling quite disheartened. A warm and kind exchange goes a long way and all part of the coffee experience.

An absolute must whilst visiting Newlyn and a return for us after our last visit two years ago. Mainly a wine shop and deli, there is also provision of a few tables and chairs to enjoy an excellent bottle of wine off the shelf for a modest corkage. Complemented by a platter of cheeses and meats. Clearly popular with and supported by locals. Doggy friendly. Very similar to a wonderful venue we enjoy where we live in St Marychurch Torquay. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

I don't even like coffee myself, I come for the cakes - they are AMAZING! And all made by the owner apparently. Met up with a friend yesterday who does like coffee and Lovetts was the perfect venue to suit both of us - also handily was situated an equal distance from where we were both coming from. Really lovely ambience, service, cakes and coffee - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.

Disappointing to see a good little niche place with great food and coffee turn sour with bad attitude. I’m a local customer so I’ve had coffee, cake, lunch here often, wanting to support quality, innovative independent business but today’s response on my seeing the “we are a cashless business” sign was beyond poor. Service here has always, at best, been cool but I’ve returned because there aren’t that many places in this area selling good coffee… however there are a few and the others now get all of my foot vote because today’s rude, imperious and quite stupid response (in pointing out to me very loudly in front of all other customers, the very sign upon which I was basing my decision not to go ahead with my order) is not something I’m prepared to accept anywhere. In response, Emma, the back story is irrelevant to the rudeness. I knew from previous visits that you didn’t take cash and it was a factor in me thinking about how much I wanted to visit. This, however, was the first time I’d seen the sign and therefore realised that it was a clear policy ongoing. I had hoped it might go the other way. I quite politely waited for Courtney to return from out of the back of the shop to the counter, in order to show her the appropriate respect of explaining why I was leaving, before she started my coffee. I explained I’d just seen the sign and that I thought that was not good. You turned from behind me with the astounding rudeness I have already described, and pointed as if I were a 3 year old, to the sign. I replied “well yes I see that and that’s why I’m leaving”. I’m not really sure how I left abruptly with all of the shopping I was carrying. Nor can I see what else you expected other than me leaving. Had you been civil I may have entered in to conversation with you about it because yes, I do feel strongly about it and I don’t believe that this is the sole reason you manage to make such virtuous claims about paying your staff a decent wage which you should be doing anyway. You also did not intimate at any point that you had stopped serving so your response is irrelevant and in terms of recognising your attitude, abjectly lame. The respect of an apology for your rudeness would be more meaningful than a tired attempt to buy my favour with a free coffee and cake, neither of which I am interested in. Choices get made on the basis of these things. I’m sure you’ll deal with that and I will go elsewhere. Let’s leave it there.

Called in for coffee and managed to get a seat. Coffee was good although tiny for the price. It became clear to us that we were sat next to the owner and I have to say that the way she spoke to her two young members of staff was downright rude and no wonder that they looked so miserable at their work although no criticism of their service at all. The owner suddenly became friendly when clearly others of the 'London set' arrived and happy to chat with them but no warmth towards other customers and made to feel as though we were in the way. Maybe a visit to the Star inn at Porkellis would be of benefit as we visited there later the same day and they showed exactly what good service should be like!

Visited here several times on our numerous trips to the area over the years. Always excellent coffee and our “go to” cafe in Newlyn, with friendly and helpful service. We decided to try their tinned sardines with sourdough toast after coming across eateries in Spain offering menus consisting solely of different types of tinned sardines (and nothing else) and our expectations were exceeded! Absolutely delicious and no comparison with the tinned sardines in the supermarkets here. We will be back for more next time we’re in the area.

OK, so I've not done an exhaustive search, but this is the best coffee I've had, west of the Tamar. Started my day there for a week and the flat whites were both fab and consistent. Having the barista, on day 2, remember what i drank was a nice touch. Overhearing the public conversations between them and someone from the local roastery demonstrated the depth of their interest in pulling great shots. See you next summer!

I love this place. I think the coffee is great and I’ve worked at my fair share of coffee shops over the years. They do the best cheese toasted and I’m not biased I promise! What I love about this place is that they care; I’m a Londoner on holiday, and it’s so nice to be met by a team of very warm and friendly staff who want the experience of grabbing a coffee to be joyful. We’ve given a lot of custom to Lovetts, as local customers. Yes the coffee is good, but the cup size is tiny! Perfect for a flat white, as you expect a smaller cup. But for all else it’s a joke! We could absolutely put up with a miniature coffee, but the staff, mostly are not at all interested in providing good customer service. Today was the last straw, we’ll definitely not be returning. This is the 2nd time we have been to Lovetts and and I'm now starting to think that they are a bit up their own bottoms and not very authentic. Some of what they serve maybe good quality like the wine and coffee (although I'm starting to doubt that now) but others are just a rip off, we had the sardines and sour dough the first time under the impression we were getting a high quality little dish and being right on the harbour - fresh local fish but No, instead a tin of sardines arrived next to some sourdough slices, I thought it quite funny as not what I expected especially considering the haughtiness of the staff there. The second time we went I had a hot chocolate for £3.10 and it arrived in a very small cup and hardly tasted of chocolate at all, I thought considering this little cup it was maybe a real hot chocolate made with melted chocolate but no such luck, it wasnt even half as tasty as a costa chocolate! Have these people never travelled?! It could be a great little wine bar a cut above other places if only it was authentic about its high quality instead of just trying to be trendy.

Enjoyed the Cortado but service was applauding I asked if they had a White Sauvignon to which the the male member of staff said arrogantly we have red yellow or blue without a smile and with a total lack of interest I have always found wine specialists enthusiastic but not here . The whole demeanour of staff was one disinterest more interested in polishing glasses than showing off the vast array of wines. . If I am paying £3 for a coffee and looking at £20 bottles of wine I expect some interest I have had more at a road side cafe . In these days of austerity I would had hoped hospitality would be a major factor no engagement here . Being local I won’t be recommending.
