Don't go here with anyone under 18. We were doing a treasure hunt type thing that we had bought for Christmas, when I say we I am taking about my husband and two children aged 15 and 12. So on the route it said to go to the Hatchet Inn. My husband went to the bar And ordered and paid for two beers. At that moment my son went up and asked him for a pepsi. The man behind the bar looked horrified and said that he couldn't be in here. We went outside to the street to drink our beers. We were chased away from there also. Yes there was a sign when we entered but who thinks that the pub that is on an official trail, would not allow children. The publican was very rude. We had to gulp our abeit excellent pints down and lave asap. So be warned!

We were looking for somewhere for lunch and stumbled across this pub. How lucky were we!!!! Not only were we made to feel welcome by the owner who was an excellent host, but the food was fantastic, 24 beers on tap (which made my husband very happy) and the history of the pub was so very interesting. Our accents gave away the fact that we were tourists from Australia. After chatting with the owner and a couple of other patrons, the owner so kindly gifted us a couple of Guinness caps as a souvenir of our visit. We will be in Bristol another 2 nights so we will definitely go back. We highly recommend this pub.

Absolutely awful! Bar staff are incredibly rude deliberately avoided me at the bar and would serve others who had just walked up to the bar. While there they were scooping the ice out with glasses and while waiting to be served was incredibly rude to two previous customers… if you want a good pub and a decent night avoid this place. Oh and if you want a dash of lemonade in your wine they tell you they have to tip some of it out and it’s 75p for a dash of lemonade. What a shambles…

The Hatchet Inn is the oldest pub in Bristol still open. It's interior boasts of the local history, including cockfighting in the 18th century and bare knuckle fighting in the 19th century. There is also the local legend that Blackbeard himself is said to have stepped foot inside during the 17th century, although what evidence for the claim I have yet to see. Regardless, the 17th century pub has a cozy and historic atmosphere that I quite enjoyed. I ordered a Steak and Ale pie, which was warm, hearty, and fulfilling in both appetite and flavour. The pastry of the pie was flaky, and the meat hot and tender. The meal was presented in a simple and neat manner, ensuring that tackling the meal could be handled in an efficient manner. Service was polite, friendly and helpful.

The bouncer is a friendly, consummate professional, and I've been dismayed to see a couple of negative, cynical reviews left by people who (it seems obvious) are sour because they weren't allowed entry due to their own excessive levels of intoxication. We have been to this branfh every day to have coffeee and break fast . We had some own food as well , but at that time we had only this place there was a team member lady today way too rude with zero manners and i asked her for salt and she literally insulted me and shouted at my face “like no you are having own food and asking salt” So its complete no to this branch of nero and we were the everyday customers they just lost. I do work at nandos and we never say this to customers Its about 7:40pm 27-03-2025 They lost permanent (literally everyday customers ) ,,, This kind of staff can literally destroy a business
