I loved this pub until I saw a darker picture last night, I’ve never seen anything like it, bouncers should be there to keep staff and customers safe not pick fights with them. I don’t know what happened but it seemed completely unnecessary and abrupt. Sort this out.

Wow what an interesting quirky find of a pub. Twice there in two evenings. Very popular venue and so much character(s). Good drinks, food was only crisps but fine, and staff polite and friendly. Lagers, ales and ciders galore so in for the night (well until restaurant and theatre show called us). Inn becoming 2nd home now...has an exterior beer garden too. All historical and great decor...there be pirates...hahaaaa

They pour short measures in this pub. Pints always have a very generous frothy head and you definitely don't get your full 568ml. Just look at the beers in the photos attached to some of the other reviews. A poor show.

Now the big one! Fantastic pub! I wish I could give you 10 Stars! You have all exceeded yourselves. Excellent Bristol Pub and fabulous staff. Thank you one and all. Nigel and Lee from Stourport Worcestershire. Today, as, I know, my landlord, Ernest Loveridge from Bristol and now in a Beautiful graveyard in Between Stourport and Kidderminster, are they related? It, just, seems, so unreal. It is just, I had to find out, and Ernie told me he was from the west, Bristol, and believe you me, I miss him big time. He was like, my second father. I'm not Traveller stock, but I loved him loads

Very poor attitude from a member of staff. She spoke unclearly and when I answered the question wrong, I was met with a very snarky comment. She then asked my partner to "put that back where you found it" referring to a menu she has brought to the bar. Seems like bar work isn't really for this team member if taking an order puts them in a foul mood... I wouldn't recommend coming here for food, grab a drink and leave the bar asap! Food was very nice despite the poor attitude of one of the members of staff. Visited Mon 16th September 18:30

the gal behind the bar with fake freckles is INCREDIBLY rude, if customer service is your job then at least pretend you don't hate people whilst you're at work. mad shame because the bar is nice and the other customers are a friendly bunch of people, good array of ciders and beers on tap. good music and nice bouncers. but jesus for you own sake get served by someone else. EDIT: veggie lasagna was honestly the BEST veggie pub food I've ever had, really, really nice, if they got rid of their weakest link the pub would be 10/10

My partner and I were looking for a good old fashioned pub to eat at and visit prior to leaving for the states. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. We did go at an awkward time as people were not off work yet. The burgers were a little disappointing as they did not have grill marks but were somehow overcooked. The fries though were spot on—very delicious. We no longer drink alcohol, but the zero proof was super tasty.

My partner and I called in on a Sunday morning for breakfast and were told no breakfast on a Sunday as the chefs are preparing a carvery which would be available in one hour at noon. We took a walk and enjoyed a local park and came back at noon and enjoyed a fantastic carvery. Freshly and perfectly cooked. The owner was friendly and run a lovely English pub. My only regret was we had to go to the airport after a lovely weekend in Brisol as was really enjoying the great beer that was recommended by the owner. I wish I had discovered this place earlier. Hopefully we will be back, if so the Hatchett Inn will be on our list of places to visit. Well done Karl and Lynn

Lovely quirky pub in the centre, been part of the alternative scene for year, although some of the focus is on sports now (but maintains a really good jukebox). Been frequenting here for many years! Always nice well kept ales and their draught is well kept also. There's a good selection of non alcoholic drinks too, and a good range of spirits and wines. I've only eaten here a few times but the food has always been good quality and decent sized portions, with decent vegetarian and vegan options. I absolutely love the beer garden in the summer, but the pub is nice and spacious so it's a really great place to meet a group of friends too! Definitely recommend! Mel

visited the pub over the harbor festival with my ASSISTANT SUPPORT DOG as suffering from leukemia wanted food on Sunday seen they had carvery on. customers given receipt ticket to get carvery from hot serving hatch when vegetables were served they were almost cold also roast potatoes where a golden colour but the potato inside was undercooked had okay choices of meats but didn't help being served on cold plates. wasn't expecting this.spoke to member of staff about issues they didn't want to help so I asked for takeaway box as the price wasn't cheap and the meat was good enough for my dog The young female member of staff that dealt with me was very rude very inconsiderate to their customers as she fought she knew best???? Went to the Hatchet on Friday as it was recommended as a great pub to go to - unfortunately my experience fell way short of my expectation, bar staff was not overly helpful and the food we received was well below what I consider to be a good meal - the chips were soggy, greasy and grey looking as if they had been sat in oil for a long time then warmed up. I wouldn’t normally complain but my experience of my first visit was extremely disappointing and sorry to say thus will be my first and last visit to this establishment

Friends visiting from Virginia USA wanted to see an 'Old English pub'. Well it had to be The Hatchett and it fitted the criteria perfectly. It was mid-afternoon on a Sunday and none of us fancied a full on Carvery - wonderful though it looked. Nathan, the chef, approached us concerned that we weren't eating. We explained and added we would love cheesy chips but they were not on offer. 'Then I will make them' he said and he did!!! They were BRILLIANT best we have tasted. How to impress our visitors! We are in our 70s and I am quite disabled. I really enjoy the ambiance of 'The Hatchet'. We always find someone to chat to, it's relaxed and welcoming. If you haven't give it a go. Thank you Nathan

This is a quirky little pub, hidden away in the back streets of Bristol, behind the Hippodrome, just a short distance from the Bristol Beacon. We stopped to have a quick drink after visiting the theatre. I must admit that I was rather surprised to find a very cosmopolitan group of patrons, not just students. Service was quick, and we decided to go into the outside area, which is separated from the road by a railing. A really great atmosphere, and prices were not unreasonable. The pub has a few paid parking spaces close by; but it is also 100 metres from the Trenchard Street multi story car park. The cost was £4 for the evening, which I consider good value. There are a few little obstacles for those with mobility issues to overcome, but we didn't do too badly. Overall, a good place to stop, and we will consider going back when we next visit the theatre.

Advertises itself as a traditional cask ale pub, yet offers 1 (one) guest ale versus at least 9 lagers. A true waste of potential for such an historic building.
