Amazing Sunday roast. We booked for a family reunion between Christmas and new year and the Sunday roast was amazing. Exceptional service from staff as our booking was for 20 people. The staff were lovely and they did everything possible to make our lunch special. The food outstanding, lamb beef and pork all great .. large portion size and massive Yorkshires. Thank you to the team that served us.

I’ve been coming here for the Sunday Roasts for years for a reason, it’s one of the best in Bristol. I can’t help but feel the portion sizes have gone down a bit in recent months which is understandable; we’re all feeling the pinch. However I’d just prefer to pay more and get the roast of old. Also, putting the gravy on the plate in that serving boat? Not a fan. Gravy portion was a bit stingy today also. Just a bit more veg on the plate and it would get five stars from me. It’s a lovely atmosphere with great staff.

Llegué aquí después de reservar por correo electrónico hace unas semanas. Fuego rugiente y una tabla con más de 20 cervezas para elegir. 3 miembros diferentes del personal hicieron el esfuerzo de hablar con nosotros y hacernos sentir bienvenidos desde el momento en que entramos por la puerta. La razón principal para escribir una reseña es el asado. He comido uno o dos en mi tiempo, pero este fue el siguiente nivel. Iría tan lejos como para decir lo mejor que he tenido. Yo tenía el triple y la esposa tenía carne. La carne se desmorona. Patatas vegetales, etc todo muy agradable, compartió un lado de queso de coliflor y lo lavó con un par de stouts de barril. El lugar estaba ocupado, pero tenía un buen ambiente. Las camareras que nos cuidaron eran igualmente magníficos. Si estoy en Bristol en un sol, voy a volver para un asado. Estábamos allí para un concierto y el asado hizo un gran fin de semana aún mejor. Gracias al equipo por cuidarnos. Excepcional

Had the most amazing Sunday Roast here, everything was just great on our plate. The only thing that bothered us was the football streaming from a sound system at a section of the pub which didn't have the TV on, but after some time they managed to turn it off for us.

We needed a place for a snack after the Old Vic.....but we are now a party of 35, the team were happy to book us in and gave us a very spacious area to spread out. The staff did not falter and were so unbelievably friendly to us all. We had a lot of kids but they understood completely bringing extra ketchup, bottles of squash and colouring materials. They could not have been more attentive. We went for the Pizza Platters that were VERY reasonably priced. They were also able to help us out on gluten free options with ease. Brilliant. I would certainly come here again and now desperate to try the Sunday roast! Hope we can come again next year after the Xmas show opposite! Thanks again for all your kindness, Merry Christmas 🎄

Booked for 35 kids and adults for after the theatre. Really welcoming. Pre booked food was great and good selection of beers. Footy on. Perfek

Los dos tuvimos el triple volly y no decepcionó... fue encantador... Coli queso y relleno como guarniciones. Ambos excelentes. . El personal era educado / amable y muy servicial. . ¡Cuando llegó la factura me sorprendió! 00 por 2 triples volly y 2 postres! Lucharía por vencerlo si cocinara en casa... ¡Increíble! Gracias a todos ustedes. . tuvimos una experiencia encantadora en su lugar. . Estaré reservando lo antes posible para mi próximo asado del domingo 👍

Absolutamente porro, cargado de gente. Comida barata y cervezas. Muy divertido. Enorme plato de patatas fritas cargadas para compartir que era excepcional. Uno de los únicos lugares que acomodaría a mis hijos, que no son particularmente pequeños, pero necesitábamos un lugar para comer y no estábamos allí especialmente tarde.

Favourite of the King St pubs. Over 30 beers on tap, organised into type and well kept. Great original decor, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Live music I recommend. The service was great. The security guards are very cool.

Pubs got one of the largest selection of on tap drinks I've seen at a pub in a while. It's located in a very lively social area of Bristol, particularly for younger people. And this pub in particular has solid live music quite often. Always good fun to catch and if not the inside area feels like a slightly more relaxed, chilled pub compared to going onto the busy street outside.

Classic pub vibe. Open fire was lovely. Loads of drinks to choose from including lots of ciders. Didn't have food but they do do very reasonably priced standard pub grub.

Honestly a fantastic night out all the members of staff are friendly and helpful and our group couldn't have been happier with the venue and the band that was playing. A big should out to Lucy H who was so friendly and helpful with banter and suggestions for drinks 100 percent will be returning in the future 😊

Lots of beers on tap, but no draft Bass. If you like real ale this could be the place to go as they have so many on tap. A round of 4 beers approx £24

The smallest burger I've ever been served, at an exaggerated price

Came in very early Sunday evening mid September after being told that it had character and buzz. Also read reviews about Sundays but under no illusion that the lauded roasts would be available in the evening. The bar inside was almost empty, maybe one or two solitary punters out on the damp benches. Had a swift half but had heart to stay. Novelty visit to the idiosyncratically fitted gents. Wouldn’t want to put anyone, particularly groups from drinking in this pub that obviously has history and still some character but not inclined to stay longer on this night. Wouldn’t take many visite, I suppose, to become familiar with the busy/peak sessions.

Great selection of cloudy beers and ciders. Good atmosphere when I was there, but had to wait some time to be served.

I love the Volley and end up there every other Friday (ish) for the live music

Great pub, loved it for the pub quiz then came back again for the gluten free festival. Will likely be back when I am next in Bristol too.

I had Cod & chips, my friend had chicken burger. My Cod was fab but the chips were awful. Very hard, wish I sent them back. The barman was very helpful. Noticed other people left their chips. My friend said perhaps it's because there triple cooked. I said no, never seen triple cooked chips that bad. Did notice just before leaving someone had decent chips so think they either cooked them way before and was brick hard. The Cod was amazing though.

Great selection of beer and ciders, not been here in about 3 years as I moved away from Bristol, but I'm glad it's just as good as I remembered. Had the sharing nachos, all of the individual components were amazingly tasty, however, the layering was all wrong, once you got past the top layer it was just crisps. Overall we had excellent service, drinks and food.

Great pub - had the football on and excellent range of beer. Games room upstairs also looked good with pool and darts.

Great selection of beers and ciders and really friendly helpful staff too. The bar staff let me try a couple of different beers and ciders before picking my drink of choice. Food was really good too, we ordered a few dishes like tapas which were good and the larger dishes looked really good too. Would definitely recommend going

Great pub with a fine selection of beers/ales. Expensive, but to be expected in these trying times.

Went for euro final. Paid for a round but they forgot a drink, went back to the bar immediately but the barmaid denied us ordering even though we asked her for her recommendation. She was really rude and the cost of the round definitely included the drink. Nasty.

Staff didn't help England win final. Good booze but no fun when football doesn't come home. Medium out of 10.

Always enjoy our time here when we visit Bristol, staff are friendly, great atmosphere and excellent choice in beers. This time we decided to take in Sunday lunch, perfect food, great value and staff were very attentive, perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon would really recommend it.

Fantastic bar on King Street, arguably the strongest beer list of anywhere on the street and one of the best in all of Bristol. Spoilt for choice! Came here on a Friday night in the summer and there was good live music playing- not sure if this is a regular feature but it was fantastic. The venue is deceptively large. There is more than just what you can see when you walk in- at the end of the bar there is another seating area- this was actually still calm while the main area in the bar was at full tilt.

Nice old pub, a wall of different choices of beer and cider and a range of alcohol percentages, a bit like going to a beer festival . Good food and a log fire that was as burning real logs. Update: returned this time in the summer and lots of tables outside on a cobbled no traffic street, so once again a good trip. Quiet on a Tuesday lunchtime, but it was open from midday which are getting harder to find.

Amazing selection of beer, good food. But suffers from that same problem most trying-to-be-gastropubs: despite being done up like (and asking prices like) a proper restaurant, the toilets are mingin like some high street boozer.

Banging roast, excellent location and great rooftop terrace to take the sun. They also have an amazing selection of beers, Ale, Pale Ale and IPA's.

Worst pint of cask I’ve ever had. Poured me a warm beer, then argued with me that nobody else had complained. Finally poured me a replacement, however that was warm too. No wonder this place isn’t in the good beer guide. Real ale drinkers avoid.

Went to the bar to order drinks on Saturday 4th May with my partner. The barstaff completely ignored us for THIRTY MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everytime they looked up saying "who's next please?" They'd deliberately avoid looking at us and served everyone else around and next to us including people who'd just arrived at the bar while we were waiting. I'm so ticked off at how humiliating the service was. We ended up leaving without any drinks after wasting half an hour standing there like lemons. The main barman in question had dark brown / black hair, slight beard and Hispanic complexion but they were all as bad as each other. He was directly in front of us and avoided eye contact with me every bloody time when all we were doing was waiting politely. This service was SO bad I feel obliged to leave this review to warn others that the staff here are rude, disorganised and will only serve you if they like the look of you. Its frankly pathetic and appalling that your staff ignore customers who were stood politely waiting to be served. They served everyone around me when anyone else came over to the bar the staff were speedy to come over despite walking past me numerous times. Anyways rant over. I won't be returning to this godforsaken place anytime soon.

Lovely pub, lovely vibes, and lovely staff who seemed happy to be there. The best bit was the Irish band The Talismen, who were fantastic and created the amazing atmosphere 🥳 No Guinness, but had a delicious London Stout (I think) which was even better 🙏

Well, what a pub. Very varied selection of ales and the food is outstanding, I had the Sunday roast called The Volley Triple and it was outstanding, Beef, Lamb and Pork Belly 😋😋😋 Service was excellent, bar staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend this pub. Can't be faulted 😊👍😊👍😊👍

Visited on a Wednesday evening, two weeks before Christmas. All tables were occupied by 7pm. Our party of 8 ordered some bar snacks, a variety of beers, ciders, and soft drinks. Bar service was fast with efficiency and smile that would put Aldi checkouts to shame. They didn't do red berry cider, so they added a red cordial to an apple cider, and I couldn't tell the difference, although clearly I'm no cider connoisseur 😉

Really decent Sunday lunch, and an enjoyable quiz on Wednesday nights, the guy that runs the quiz is funny. Staff are always super friendly and helpful.
