Paid £7.50 for a single, cheapest brand G&T! Gin was £4.70 and tonic was £2.80 - the most I have paid in any pub in the local area.Toilet leaves alot to be desired which wouldn't bother me too much if they weren't charging so much for a G&T.

This pub serves the finest cask ale in the area. I know this because I drink ale at all the local pubs on a regular basis and the cellaring standards here are superior. The Vaults can be a bit hit and miss; the Green Man often serves ale at almost room temperature. But here in the CPS you get cellar coolness and all the creaminess and lacing that are the hallmark of cask ale in top notch condition. If you get served an average or worse pint at a nearby pub, vote with your feet and walk this way.

Was ok. For a Saturday early evening and the only folk in... Real ale options quite poor, 2 on offer. Good for cider, but that's not my thing ( or perhaps what a pub with Porter in the name should offer more beers?). Has board games, darts and old video game if want to settle in. Outside toilet is literally outside. Good luck if very cold...

We’d booked a pie and a pint online through Groupon. 1st time was bad 2nd time (don’t ask) was awful. We went as a family the 1st time and no frills was fine but service was awful. Ordered a pint at the bar and was told the barrel needed to be changed and that they’d bring the drink to the table,20 mins later still no pint so went back to the bar, no one behind the bar but the bartender who’d served me was sitting the other side of the bar drinking with his friends. I waited for at least 5mins before another bartender arrived and got me the drink, he was apologetic saying he wasn’t told we were waiting for a drink. The pie and mash arrived at least 30mibs after we ordered which was poor as we were the only ones eating in the pub! The pie was warm but the mash was cold. The presentation was awsful as if a 7yr old had slapped some mash on a plate chucked a pie on top and the drenched it in gravy, even the chicken pie was swimming in beef gravy. We ate them and left the kids thought it was nice so never mind. Returned for our second go, the bartender was rude, we’d booked online and were told that there weren’t any tables and we could use one for a bit. It was quiz night and 3 tables were booked for quiz participants. The bartender really couldn’t be bothered to deal with us and told us the offer shouldn’t be on on quiz night! We didn’t bother staying got our money back and left! Won’t be going back again!

In the past this has received praise as a real ale pub with good food. Not any longer. Having booked on line and received confirmation, I arrived with my friend to enjoy the lauded pie and a real pint. The barman was embarrassed, the pies left for us were damaged and hardly in date. He recommended we came later in the day when there might have been a new delivery. I declined. The place was empty, uninviting and decidedly under prepared. Never again.

A quite horrific experience. My girlfriend bought me the Groupon pie and mash experience at Cotham Porter Stores as an anniversary present. She rang up and reserved a Chicken and Leek pie and a Moo pie for friday evening. When we got there, the barman told us that Moo pie was ok, but that the Vegetarian pie was "on the turn and that he couldn't serve it to us". We pointed out that we didn't order the vegetarian pie and we had ordered the Chicken and Leek pie, please. He then went off downstairs, came back and disappeared upstairs. Then he said that he was very sorry but there were no chicken and leek pies, but there was a Moo pie. "We will have two then, please", we said. "Sorry", he said, "but there is only one Moo pie". It turned out that although there were four types of pie on the menu, he actually only had 1 pie. "I do have a chicken pie, but it is gluten free and it doesn't have leeks in it", he said. "So how come if you serve pies, you don't have any supply?", we asked with amazement. "Oh", he said, "They were all mouldy, so we threw them away". At that point, we practically threw our hands up in horror, thanked the gods he only had one Moon pie and we left! We then had dinner in Cosmo thinking we had escaped a dreadful fate. Pies on the turn....mouldy pies being thrown away. We listened to "Master of the House" from Les Miserables in the car on the way home. How it seemed like the Cotham Porter Stores!

Went here as part of a Groupon deal-pie and mash, with a beer or wine for two. There weren't many reviews available really, but what was there seemed reasonable, so we were hoping for the best. First impressions as we walked in were not good. A handful of regulars drinking at the bar: nothing inviting or welcoming and quite cold. Talk about no frills! We had unbelievably booked a table, as that is what Groupon requested. However we needn't have bothered. All the tables were empty, there was no sign of a reserved table for us and they actually had no idea we were coming! We weren't even sure that they did food at all as nobody was eating and we couldn't see any evidence of menu or a kitchen! We decided to have a drink, at which point we noticed a small backboard at the end of the bar, saying that they did Pieminster Pies. Ah ha we thought, we can get a pie here after all! Bearing in mind it was Friday night & we had booked, when we asked if they were definitely doing food, the bar man checked his watch rather worryingly first and then unconvincingly said 'yes'. However, we couldn't both have steak pies, as they only had 1! So anyway, food ordered, we chose one of the many empty tables and hope that things might improve when the food arrived. Guess what! it didn't. The pies arrived about 10 mins later. Each one was served on a tiny side plate, only slightly bigger than the pie itself. Whilst the pie was hot, the mash which was squished underneath it and in danger of falling off the edge of the tiny plate was cold. The gravy that had been dumped on top was a very unusual brown, more like mud than gravy and ever so slightly congealed. There was no veg or any accompaniments at all. A gastro pub this was not! Thankfully we hadn't paid too much for our meal, as it was part of a deal, but to say it was disappointing is a complete understatement. I have never experienced anything like it before and hopefully never will again! We will not be returning.
